Never been here but I watched a video on YouTube saying that this hospitals doctors caused a 3 year old girl to die through a central line infection. Don't even live in the area, but if you do, avoid this place as much as you can.

Excellent medical care 100% 5 stars. BUT, their billing is a NIGHTMARE. You will be bombarded with bills, repeat bills, bills that don't reconcile with each other. You can call them but they haven't the ability to explain. So I simply just paid every bill even when the bill was inconsistent. Translated to real terms ... if the quality of care favored Stanford, I would ignore this financial problem. If things were equal, it might push me elsewhere.

Expecting improvement on this tyrannical practice of treating chronic IV cannulation infections as folly and allowing patients (children) to come out broken or worse from your 'treatment'. Truly pathetic.

Avoid this place if you can.

Compared to other hospitals we have been to, this place is very nice. Very clean, and always accommodating. Only having one patient per room is great.

Let me take you on a journey, to the "best rated" Children's Hospital in the land... but wait, there is a catch, because I could not have had a worse experience at a hospital, period.
To start off, my wife and I had our first baby last week on Monday the 12th of September - finally discharged from Sutter Maternity in Santa Cruz on Friday night, 8pm. Saturday, 3pm we get a call from a lady working for Stanford Metabolic something or another department, informing us our newborn has tested positive for something and needs an emergency blood re-test. So she informed us the only lab open on the weekend is in Stanford, at the children's hospital. Of course we say yes and start packing up for a 2 hr drive (due to weekend traffic on HWY17) each way so we can try to be there before 6:30 pm - which we were told by this lady, admitting was open till then and blood drawing lab open until 9pm. So wait, this gets better just keep reading.

We arrive to the Children's Hospital at 6:09 PM, and figure out that the admitting was closed at 6pm, not 630 - so we were left to wander the 'still under construction' hospital to find the elusive Blood Drawing Lab. We must have wandered the halls for 50 minutes before returning to the front and calling the lady who sent us on this mission to the depths of hospitals bowels. She had no idea where we were supposed to go either, and the security guards are more concerned with scanning your ID and printing you out a sticker badge than actually helping you find where you need to go. So after waiting on the phone with the 'Lady' she tells us we are looking for E16 - we find the map but cannot locate any room under the name E16. At this point I had to get a wheelchair and start wheeling around my 5 days post c-section surgery wife because she couldn't handle walking any more. After our 3rd lap of the hospital, a man trying to be helpful sent us downstairs, and says -that E16 is right there. So we go down the elevator, finding two employees sitting on their break at the lower level, we ask them - they have no idea where E16 or the lab to get blood drawn is - but they show us a nurses station is right down the hall - so we go there. It was Oncology but we were running out of luck on everything else we tried up to this point so why not try this. At nurses station, nobody was there initially but then someone started trying to help us locate this E16, but it seems everyone who works at this hospital only knows where they are at that moment and no idea how to help you find where you need to go. Finally a couple of sweet female nurses came out to see our beautiful baby newborn girl. And one of those nurses Elizabeth, was ultra helpful and accommodating, dropped what she was doing at oncology to help console my sobbing wife after we were having such bad luck to this point. Take it, we have now been at this hospital for over an hour, and needless to say, we are exhausted. Luckily Elizabeth, was informed about what we were trying to find, she tells us that due to construction, places change location without notice each week and sometimes from day to day things are moving around the building into different locations. Elizabeth walks down this hallway to go to meetings, and since she is an aware person she knew that the blood drawing lab was over near where E13 is, but after we arrive to this location - we find it to be labeled as F17. Really good to know, and makes it super easy to find (in my most sarcastic voice possible). And now the real fun starts, the person at the front office of the Blood lab, has a very slight grasp of the english language. She begins by asking us if Mom or Baby is getting the test, then informs us that we need to collect a urine sample from our newborn, and assumed we had already done this. Basically she doesn't know what is going on. We get into the room and now the same lady is asking us why we are trying to collect a urine sample. At this point I almost lost it but calmed down enough to complete the procedure. Without Elizabeth we would have left defeated.

Excellent facility and services. We are new to the Stanford System. However, we are quite impressed with the facilities and services provided by Stanford Medical.

The care is great, WHEN YOU CAN GET IT!. My daughter is a patient at the Pediatric Pain Management Clinic. She suffers from chronic pain and from time to time and the only thing that we have found that helps after 3 years are trigger point injections. The only place that does them is the Pediatric Pain Management Clinic.

Now, imagine that your daughter tells you that "The pain is paralyzing." and she has already missed 4 days of school from the pain, let alone her discomfort. Now, as a parent, further imagine how you feel when the clinic tells you that the earliest appointment is 6 days from now. NOT GOOD!

I drove an hour and showed up this morning to see if I could drop in and have the physician see my daughter to perform the injections. Now, keep in mind that they ask some questions to determine if you are a candidate for the Trigger Point Injections (10 min), administer the injections (5-10 min) and then wait 30-40 minutes to ensure you do not have any adverse reactions. We know the timing since we've done this before. The doctor only determines if you are a candidate for the injections and performs the injections. THE DOCTORS TOTAL TIME COMMITMENT IS 20 MINUTES for this procedure! It's the nurse practitioner or staff that come in and check to see if you are having any negative reaction.

I was unable to meet with the doctor on duty today, even before he started seeing patients. (My daughter's doctor is on maternity leave). I was only able to see the nurse practitioner and a Stanford Fellow that was shadowing her. I was told they don't take drop ins, how much this is an inconvenience for them and, get this, that the doctor was going to a conference later that day. Argh!

I did see the manager of the Pain Management Clinc. In what appears to be her limited power, she was not able to advocate for us effectively enough to convince the doctor and staff to work my daughter in.

We go into the weekend with no pain relief for my daughter. SHAME ON YOU!

Stanford, you need to be able to fulfill these type of requests for urgent care - on you patients schedule, not yours.

Our son had to have three surgeries at LPCH back in 2009. The staff is amazing and Dr. Hanly is so kind, sympathetic, and humble. Our son is doing great since the surgery thanks to his skills and those that work with him.

Keep in mind that there are two buildings for this hospital. The newer building, which is gorgeous by the way, opened December of 2017. Most of the patients have moved there. The new building is still 725 Welch Road but is called the "Main" building. The older building is now called the "West" building.

Though it says open 24 hrs, the visiting policy states that visiting hours are from 8 am until 9pm. The exceptions are special circumstances and Labor and delivery. There are no emergency services at the Main or West buildings. The address for the Pediatric Emergency Department is 900 Quarry Road Ext. Palo Alto, Ca. Also, there is no urgent care. There is an after hours clinic by appointment only and a walk in clinic located at 211 Quarry road, the Hoover building. The walk in clinic opens at 3pm.

This is one of the best Children's hospitals in the Bay Area. The staff here are caring, compassionate, and competent. This is a very special place.

Over $9000 for an overnight pediatric sleep study. Highway robbery.

Billing person was helpful but clearly her hands were tied. No advanced notice about the fees, and zero transparency about why the fees were so high and what we actually paid for. This is why health care costs are skyrocketing and why hospital systems - though not health care workers, usually - have such a poor image.

At the very least find out your costs in advance, and consider whether this is the place to spend your money. I'd say not...

The hospital is OK.

The hospital is OK.

Their billing is horrible. They started giving me "courtesy calls" probably a week after I've received the first bill (with 30 days to pay it) to ask me if I have any questions about the payment. I've already got several (once per week) before the payment is due, and it's very annoying.

It's not my first bill with them and this never happened before. I've also always paid my bills on time, so I don't understand why they suddenly decided to chase me (calling it a "courtesy"). I feel that they are treating me like a scum, and will try to avoid dealing with them in the future if I can.

My wife just delivered our first newborn daughter here and we both couldn't have had a better experience. In fact, we used the Stanford OBGYN clinic (Dr Faig) as well as the LPCH for delivery (Dr Wynn).

My sincere complements to both Dr Faig and Dr Wynn for their truly first rate service.

Obviously, as I'm writing this, there is some growing pains that are inevitable due to the huge new LPCH building finishing the last stages of construction (i think it should be open in 2017). Nevertheless, the nursing staff and physicians were fantastic.

As for billing, everything has gone smoothly and not one unexpected or unwarranted Bill has arrived.

Thank you for this wonderful experience and I've been recommending you to all my expectant mother friends.

I delivered my son in Stanford a month ago and we had a fantastic experience there! Everything was just perfect, the nurses there are super stars, so kind and helpful, doctors were awesome too. Good team of professionals! Labor and Delivery and Maternity departments are brand new, we got shared room fist day and privat the other day. Rooms are well equipped and spacious. And the food was amazing, huge menu with many varieties and everything tasted awesome! Can't find anything I didn't like there. We are coming back for baby nr.2 definitely!

I had the opportunity to bring my son her for a week to get specialized testing and see DR. GRANT (Weast Coast--best Dr. for Chiari malformation I.)....I want to extend my sincerest appreciation and gratitude from the scheduler to the Dr. himself and all the staff that saw us through each step of this process.
They all treated us with the "Human Element"....a trait that can sometimes be lost in this profession. All of the staff were respectful, courteous, and knowledgeable at their profession and went out of their way to ensure we were taken care of as a family. I am forever greatfull for this experience. I look forward to the "Priceless" Quality Health Care my son will continue to receive as Stanford will no doubt become our extended family.
There is no greater gift I could ever receive than being Noah's mama; except for the amazing people who have afforded me the chance to become knowledgeable about his condition, and have the "piece of mind" that we are all in this for the best interest of the children.
Thank you, for stellar, professional, educated, compassionate care.
See you again in July!

This hospital is one of the best around the bay area, The hospital it's self is awsome & the staff is also awasome. What gets me real upset is that when i was there on march 1,2018 for labor my baby's first bear was stolen from the room i stayed in only nurses came in & also a house keeping lady came in twice & after the last time the house keeper came in the room my baby's first bear was gone! I complained to nurses about it & they did nothing about it! It was a really special bear for me & my newborn baby! It is ridiculous how you can get robbed at a hospital specially this hospital i didn't expect this!

Dangerous hospital. I am mindblown by these 5 star reviews. This hospital has a high propensity for central line infections, and a lackadaisical attitude toward preventing more in the future. Would encourage parents to do their research on this establishment before bringing their children here. This is not a sterile or safe environment.

Bad experience in every sense. The only reason, i give the 1, is because of their neonatal department.
My wife was admitted for a "induced" labor. We were made to stay admitted for 36 hours! before they could do anything. And the reason, why they delayed the induction process , was because they were planning the "rooms" accommodation availability.
We had to push hard, to start the induction. And finally they did. That too they induction look more than 12 hours.. but no signs of delivery. PAMF doctors where switching shifts but no one wanted to take a responsibility.
We again had to push hard for C-Section because the baby was in distress. The PAMF doctor Dr Hong, was stubborn. Finally she realized herself that the babies heart rate is going down. And she said YES.

After the C-Section, which went fine. But, the next phase was another challenge. They are extremely slow with the baby. They took around 3-4 hours, until my wife could be with the baby.

The nurses in the nursery were extremely slow and lazy. The nurse was not ready to give my baby a shower , because the temperature has to reach "37 degrees exact", which i was frustrated of waiting for so much time, finally to realize, that they were using bad thermometers. Seriously? Stanford doesn't have money to buy good quality thermometers?

Next, for the "ROOM", That was a deadly situation. I had requested 1 month in advance for private room. There were private rooms available. But the way the room management nurses handled the situation was epic.
The nurse threatened me to call the security!! if i push for private room. "Seriously"? On the day of my babies birth, they are threatening to call security, cos i am harassing them? How important is it for them, to be comfortable as compared to the patients?

This was the last thread. Finally Stanford had to apologize to us for all the mess.

I would suggest not to do delivery here. Its good for neonatal but otherwise its a nightmare.

Daughter was in & out of your Stanford & UCSF , then transferred back to Oakland Children s Hospital. Stanford Children Hospital/Lucile Packard we re so caring to our daughter. They treated her with care and compassion. As a child it s scary. She was a very sick little girl & so many tests were done, some not pleasant. Our daughter always was strong but she cried of course, but as parents & her grandparents came to help w/visits because we had to spend the nights as she was an in-patient. I needed support because I ve been ill w/(SLE)lupus & the staff were wonderful to our whole family.we had to stay in a hotel that both University Hospital uses for pediatric in-patient child & their family. Now, I m helping her as an adult child services for her records because things are starting up again. So now we need help w/medical records because she s filing for SSI, I m concerned but she ll get through this. She has SLE-Lupus and has been diagnosed with other issues. We in the Brentwood/Antioch Ca94531 area and Sutter Hospital & her new team of doctors along w/SSI need any records or even that she was a patent their. I m doing what your hospital told me to do. I thank you and appreciate your services, especially during this pandemic. Sincerely, Cathleen Brown (for Rachel Brown (Long).

Here we go again with this office and these people not knowing what the right hand from the left hand is doing. I spent an entire day yesterday booking an appointment for a surgery follow up and they just called me today, 3 days prior to my appointment asking me if i was still coming in seriously. I am telling you these people are incomplete, do yourself a favor if you want to avoid having to deal with this kind of headache, go elsewhere
it s not worth it

My son has been here since he was 3 months old. The doctor's and nurses have been wonderful. All love my son and he loves them in return. PCU 160 is our second home.

The administrative staff is terrible. They keep secrets regarding my family to themselves and I have to pry and argue with them to get a straight answers. They're the hospital superiors and remind us that they can do what they want with my family. They don't have a check and balance system for themselves and are more than willing to dish out disciplines for families but not themselves. The stars are for the PCU 160 staff and that's it.

I would give them a negative if possible. My daughter ingested a magnet and we had x rays and we wanted them to look over by a GI doctor. They recommended us to get xrays again which is ridiculous for a 3 year old. And then they talked about getting a referral to be seen by a doctor. When asked show us that there is this kind of rule they said its recommended to get a referral which means its not mandatory. At the end of the day we got turned away but i least expected them to treat a life threatening situation so casually.

My daughter was hospitalized for two days, and we were told there was not room at LPCH so they sent us to their wing of El Camino hospital. We have no complaints about the actual care she received, but we later received bill after bill from the hospital even after paying a number of them. I called to clarify the total bill and was passed off to 3 different phone numbers. Eventually I was told they would look into what we already had paid and get back to us, but we never heard back. A month later we started getting calls and letters from debt collectors. The whole experience seemed very confusing and unprofessional. I work in hospital administration and can't imagine the confusion and anxiety that a non-healthcare person would feel through this experience.

Love this hospital! We were in the CVICU for a little bit with our newborn and loved the nurses and care. If you have to go to the CVICU.. just know you re in good hands with a group of people who love you/family member! One of our nurses, Michael did an amazing job and taught us so much. He was patient with my husband and I as we were learn how to give our baby a bath and breast feeding. He gave us tips and tricks and sincerely cared about our son. Thank you so much Dr. Ford and Dr. Maeda! You all stood out to us with your love and care during a scary moment in our lives. Thank you, thank you!!

We took our child there for a second opinion, and then a procedure. The doctors and nurses we interacted with treated us with respect and care, and gave great suggestions, and most importantly, provided a successful procedure. If you are a parent and ever need to take your child to a hospital, read reviews carefully and consider what's the best to do for your loved one.

I highly recommend staying away from Stanford. We were considering going there for a second opinion. My daughter is currently going though chemo. We sent over an MRI. Keep in mind she was not even seen there. We received a bill for close to $4000 for them just to look at an MRI. When you look at the bill, it almost looks like she had the MRI done there. What a rip off. So upsetting to be going though what we are right now and have to deal with being over charged by $4000. This is why our medical expenses are out of control. Fraud if you ask me. I have been promised a call back several times from a billing manager but have yet to receive one. The BEST DECISION my wife and I made was to take our daughter to UCSF Oakland. They have been great.

Our daughter was born here due to her severe heart defect and she just underwent open heart surgery here and I can t say enough good things about the staff, nurses, doctors, everyone here goes above and beyond. My only thing I would fix is the cafeteria prices are crazy expensive but the medical care is worth it.

BEWARE! I scheduled an appointment for my son and previously I checked if they accepted my insurance which is Blue Shield of California and they informed that they do accept it. Upon arrival I paid my deductible and they check AGAIN my coverage and reassured me that I was covered. Couple of weeks later I received a bill from them with an amount that reflected my insurance did not pay anything. For the simple 20 minute visit I was charged nearly $600. When I checked with my insurance I was told that this Hospital is not on the provider list since 2015. When I called the hospital's billing department to dispute the charge they were not willing to do anything about it.
