Waits can be long sometimes and overall appointments are hard to get, but nothing beats the services that the LGBT center provides to our community. I love and appreciate the staff and everything they do!

The Los Angeles LGBT Center sent me a survey about...

The Los Angeles LGBT Center sent me a survey about my experience, in other words why am I jumping ship to another provider to escape from medical service so negligent that it has already put my life in danger multiple times?

Here's what I originally wrote before finding out that I had broken the character limit.

There are too many problems too list, but I will try my best.

The doctors have little knowledge or do not care about practicing informed consent. They act as if they are always tired, high, and think trans people only need medical care for trans things.

While patients are accepted at their word about what their gender is, the same standard is not applied to other cultural minorities such as disabilities. Double standards are discrimination.

There is only one social worker, and she is so incompetent that she never accomplished one thing across several appointments. She just kept making a bunch of empty promises and then never following up.

Medications are never received on-time, causing patients to miss doses.

Patients are not given unlimited or automatically restoring refills. Instead they must get the doctor's permission every time. This causes an inherently coercive relationship and makes freely given, informed consent impossible.

Patients' rights to respect, non-discrimination and freedom from threats are ignored.

A security guard made a threat on my life in retaliation to my assertion of the aforementioned rights.

A Nurse Practitioner repeatedly misgendered me after being corrected, refused to provide service and called my gender identity a mental disorder. I filed a compliant and no one ever followed up with me.

Someone keeps posting hate speech against people of size on the "nutrition" board.

I repeatedly asked various staff for a sign language interpreter, another way to make appointments besides phone calls, and checked myself into appointments as Deaf/Hard of Hearing. Nothing was done with this information. That is discrimination and a violation of federal law.

The bathrooms are gendered. Are you kidding me?

Everyone is so caring and hardworking here. Even though it took a long time to be called when I was in the waiting room, but it's understandable due to so many people that are getting help here. other than that everything is great

The Los Angeles LGBT Center has so many programs from Youth, Seniors, Men, Women, Veterans, HIV, and Transgender. The center has medical and mental health treatment on site appointment is needed. There is also a full pharmacy on site as well. I have been a client of the Los Angeles LGBT Center for over seven years and I have been satisfied with the services. The center has six locations with a seventh location that under construction. The Los Angeles LGBT Center is the social organization that provides the gathering place for the whole of the LGBT Community.

I've been going here for the past 5 years, and they have been a vital resource. I can get my medications and HRT at a fraction of what I would have to pay elsewhere through my "insurance." It's unfortunate that their mental health programs are limited to a certain amount of weeks.

The services I've received here are unparalleled. I went in for a walk in first appointment and they assessed my financial situation and immediately set me up with a social worker who I saw that day. She introduced me to the youth shelter down the road and I got a bed that night. No other shelter would have taken me and housed me with the gender I identify as. They also did blood tests at minimal cost and have helped me get my hormones.

Their sti testing is very thorough, including swabs for the back of the throat and the answer as well as urine and blood. Planned parenthood has nothing on the lgbt center!

Getting an appointment is impossible. The website says to send an email. The email responds two days later with a number for you to call that no one answers and they don't return your messages even though the email promises they do. Don't donate, and don't waste your time.

I have been going for medical care from The L. A. Gay & Lesbian Center for now over two years now. I have had good luck with the medical care that I have had. They provide medical on a sliding scale basis. They is also have a pharmacy onsite and provide mental health services for those who need these services.

But The L.A Gay & Lesbian Center is much more than just medical care but a place that supports the community with support groups and provides a place for those youth who are homeless.

I just wish I could support The L. A. Gay & Lesbian the way the The L. A. Gay & Lesbian Center has supported me.

Always a terrible experience. Center needs to get it together. Have been here many times over 6 years and they are never helpful. Almost all of the people I have encountered at the front desk have been completely rude. There are much better places to go in LA.

I like the fact that a one stop shop medical facility can exist in one building. Physical and mental health and pharmacy to accommodate the needs of so many people who can feel comfortable and without judgement. Great staff and a safe place to feel taken care of however you need to be taken care of. A true feeling of family.

I called about counseling, was told it would require an intake meeting. I went to the center on July 5th and met with some counselor for an intake evaluation. I went there because I can not afford to pay a counselor's full fee. I was hoping to get some financial help with my mental health issues. I was told there is a 12 week waiting period before any decision can be made. But, I was sent a bill for $200.00 dollars on August 16, payable by August 24. Beware!! Be certain you ask if there is ANY charge before accepting an appointment. I think this was very disingenuous on the part of the center. And, I am very disappointed.

I called the billing office and received wonderful help in addressing my billing issues. They were polite, professional and helpful with explaining the insurance issues. Thank you

I have been to this useless organization seven times in the past few years and have never received so much as a Band-Aid. The latest experience I showed up with three large festering sores on my left ankle caused by a new pair of shoes. They told me to go to county hospital. Luck a friend cane around to my place within an hour after that and took me to RiteAid. He bought me some ointment and Band-Aids and in two days it was nearly cleared up completely.
However, a new problem has flared up and that is an unrelated infection\swelling of big toe on my left foot. I'm not sure what caused it but it is so big that the toe nail looks like it is about to fall off.
I'm going to try the LGBT one more time to see if I can upgrade their standing in my eyes...and feet.

I decided to go to The Lgbtc center looking for a psychiatris , since I been there in the past for regular check up and they accept Medical and for me has been really difficult to find doctors under that insurance.

Anyways, the point is that I finally got to see a psychiatrist after 2 months because they have the longest wait list.

Long story short, this psychiatrists and the whole LGBTC Center Mental health department seem to be for recovering addicts. I when to get help since was finally diagnosed with ADD at 22 years of age and OMG! They treated me like an addict, I genuinely when there because I was adviced to seek therapy and medication for ADD because at this point in my life ADD wasn t just affecting my school life.
Basically, the medication for ADD has the same active ingredient as Meth and if you have seen The lobby in the mental health lobby , it s full of meth flyers. Soooo I think they didn t want to prescribe me the medicine because some people abuse of it. Also, In order to prescribe you something like the medication for ADD they drug test you.
Like I dont even drink or smoke tabaco , The most I do is smoke weed, and if smoke 5 times in a year that means I m out of control.

Yet, they always drug test you in order to prescribe you medicine. Like They even made me signed a paper that wouldnt do any drugs and what not. They made me waste my time for over 10th months because they never even prescribed me the right medice, I only deal with them because I didn t had a better insurance. I wouldn t recommend the mental health department unless your an addict or couples therapy.

THE POINT IS, THE MENTAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT WILL TREAT YOU AS AN ADDICT EVEN IF YOUR NOT AN ADDICT.

If your trying to find help for ADD & ADHD do not come to this place, I regret the time I wasted here so much, this place hold me back from making progress with ADD because of how they treat everyone like an addict. I know they thought they where helping, but when you treat someone who isn t an addict like one your just damaging them.

The moment I got a new insurance, i never when back to this place. Now I m going to a new doctor and I m getting the right medicine and I m not being treated as an addict anymore. Yay.

Went there to access the 'Needle Exchange Program' that occurs twice a week on Thursday's & Sunday's between the hours of 05:00pm to Midnight, located in their rear parking lot. They have a white van usually on Thursday's at the middle area of the parking lot and on Sundays they usually have a RV parked directly behind the building on the lower section of the parking area. Parking area for the Exchange is street parking only since the LGBT Center is closed by then. Access to their rear parking is usually through the Exit Only gate on the North end of the building. They offer everything from clean new syringes, cookers, cotton, alcohol pads, condoms, tourniquets, disposable saline solution (that's not intended for injecting but is still better then using unclean water), overdose opiate blockers, syringe disposal canisters, and even offer STD & HIV tests that gives the infected or clean bill of health within 30 minutes. Great place for those who inject their poisons directly.

If you are a member of the LGBT community and need affordable health services - come here! Yes, they are constantly busy and you have to wait at least a month for a doctor's appointment, even if you are an existing patient -- but it is worth it. I see Dr. Carpenter and he is simply one of the best doctors I've ever had. He has been helping me with my transition since day one and is extremely knowledgeable on the latest trends, etc. The pharmacy and testing labs are added bonuses where the costs are significantly cheaper than if you go elsewhere. I had a high deductible insurance plan and the Center made things much more affordable for me.

The Drs., Nurses, technicians, and all the support staff are informative, friendly, courteous, and top notch. The Center is well maintained, clean and there is sufficient parking with a 2 hour validation I believe. Have never come away without feeling well treated.

Thorough and respectful health services for LGBTQIAU (QUILTBAG haha) individuals. They have social workers, psychiatrists, therapists, nurses, labs, a pharmacy and more all under one roof. They have a sliding scale payment system, and they take insurance. I wish healthcare was this comprehensive everywhere!

They used to let me use the restroom, but they prefer it for their own. I have urinary incontinence and it's on my route so i ago in. I'm glad the ivar library put porta potties outside to combat homeless people peeing on the street. But this place doesn't allow that consideration.

The staff here is so nice and helpful, particularly a member named Natalia . She was so welcoming and warm, she really knows how to take the anxiety and stress aways from a situation that is still very taboo. In addition to having such excellent interpersonal skills, there was an incident that happens just as I sat down where a staff member became dizzy and nearly fainted. The staff reacted like a well oiled machine and aided her, Natalia was so apologetic about the situation. Which ofcourse was not a problem at all.

Great staff and services. They are fast efficient and caring and are a great resource and health care system. These are pics of the lobby and pharmacy area and new pharmacy waiting areas where they have multiple fell phone charging stations. I didn't have my iPhone cord with me and my cell was dying. This super awesome young lady in the lobby kiosk, Jo, unplugged her phone and let me borrow her cord to charge my cell. that's just an example of how the staff goes above and beyond what is expected of them. My Dr is very skilled and such an easy person to open up and talk to about anything. The clerk's are all very quick and capable of any task needed of them. I really am glad that I found out about this place!

I am hopeful the center will get its act together....

I am hopeful the center will get its act together. So much so that I ve joined the client advisory board but every encounter I have with the center results in huge amounts of my time being wasted. The main reason as I see it is: First, because the delivery system from call center to decision maker requires 4 steps and there is no accountability. Second, after your doctors appointment there is no fast track line to make your follow up appointment or other request and you are sometimes required to wait over an hour to book your new appointment because your status has changed from having an appointment to wanting an appointment so that keeps you at the bottom of the que. Third, because the pharmacy operates on a DOS based system the orders your doctor puts in after your appointment do no start any process. You must walk down in person and tell the pharmacy to convert the order from your doctor to a actionable order to fill your prescription. State law allows a nurse to take this action for you however because of the delay mentioned in #2 above it could take up to an hour to be called to the counter to even ask for the nurse. I encourage everyone to take the time and file grievances with your individual insurance company not to hurt the center but so they will be forced to look at the way they operate and make the correct changes! Remember the center is for the LGTBQ community, those that work there work for us.

This place is heartless and greedy, I was crying in front of the nurse for PEP because I was raped and they denied me them. she asked if I have insurance and maybe they will be able to give them, but because I didn't they couldn't. Now, I'm just waiting to show up positive for one of my annual check up.

They do a good job at serving clients considering how busy they are all the time. I d recommend making an appointment before going there. I made an appointment and it was easy. Just go to their website and go to contact us option and the rest is easy to figure out. They call and if they can t reach you, they leave you an email with a number. Or you can just call their number to make an appointment, it s not hard people, it does take some time (10 mins for me) but consider the fact that they are busy. From my experience, everything went smooth and I got all my tests done. The staff is really nice and they explain everything to you.
