America first pizza shop. Great food and great customer service.
America first pizza shop. Great food and great customer service.
It would have been 5 stars if they took credit card.
Come on Lombardi s it s 21st century.
I would have ordered so much for food only if you took credit card.
Pizza is great btw. No wonder they are the oldest pizzeria in the states.
Come for the history of the place if you must, but don't come for the food: Soggy crust, tasteless sauce, bland toppings.
It was cool to eat at such a historical spot... But Chicago pizza has you beat :)
The cutlery was not clean! The taste is good. But there is a scope for improvement on the cleanliness front
It's not the best pizza ever but not the worst either. Very pricey ($23for small and thats cheapest price on the menu). It tastes better than the average pizza you may buy at big chain pizzas. Also, they only accept cash so have cash on you when you go there.
Tourist trap with a landlord who has to operate the cash machine to offer $ 30 pizzas and plastic cups
Overpriced without being exceptional, to avoid
The pizza ex very good. A large 36-dollar pepperoni is also very expensive. The place is very nice classic Italian. It is worth going at least once
Excellent place. Nothing pretentious, simple, with an outstanding product.
The first pizzeria in the US warrants a visit, and we were happy that it wasn't just a ploy to get people in the door. Lombardi's clearly hasn't just survived off nostalgia and an amazing claim to fame, their food is exceptional. We actually walked 15 blocks in the rain determined to eat here during our trip to NYC, and would happily do it again. The pizza was delicious, totally worth having lunch completely soaked! The menu is very simple, you can order two different pizzas or just make your own, makes it easier than perusing a ridiculous menu of stuff no one wants to eat. The staff was amazing...Their restroom was out of order and locked up, I asked if I could simply use it to change our baby's diaper. They tracked down the key, most people would say they didn't know where the key was and leave it at that, but half the staff was running around looking for it, they were great and we appreciated them going above and beyond for a wet diaper.
Pizza is amazing! But don't bother getting anything else.
In the never ending war of which pizza is better, Grimaldi's vs. Lombardi's, it's impossible to choose. What I will say for Lombardi's is that the crust is incredible on their pizza and the topping is simple and straight forward. Goes great with an iced tea or Pironi. I would also that they have the best white pizza I've ever eaten.
bit cramped at our table near the main window. My favorite pizza place still remains Lombardi's in NYC. Hubby thought it was a tie score between Lombardi's and Keste pizza & vino. read more
Food was spectacular. We ordered the meatballs and small pizza for two and it was great. Service was not amazing but they were busy. I recommend!!
If you ve got money and want a pizza that surpasses pedestrian slices, then this is it. Ingredients are stellar and they are able to provide a perfect thin crust pizza that miraculously won t buckle under generous, flavorful, quality toppings. Having said that, I m not sure if Lombardi s is any more NY-authentic then the plain cheese you can grab and go for 1/15th of a price. If you re a tourist try both bc many dwellers if this great city can t afford Lombardi s.
Still one of the better pizzas in new York but definitely not the best, the staff weren't the friendliest but I'd still come back
This is a great place! Delicious pizza, crust is just the right size and awesome selection of toppings. Definitely coming back.
It is said to be the oldest pizzeria in the US. Neapolitan-style pizza and perfect service. A little piece of little Italy history.
Thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Lombardi's which I am told is one of the oldest, if not the oldest coal burning pizza restaurant in NYC...We ordered 2 pies plus some appetizers...I must say the plain pizza pie was actually better than the one with the sides on it...I was also told the clam pie is amazing but my group wasn't up for it...Definitely will be back!
Have to admit the only time I come here is when I have out of town visitors. The pizza is good and it's considered a classic, but to me, the wait and hassle can sometimes get in the way of enjoying the food/experience. Try going on off-peak hours to avoid the crowds.
The place is a place of tradition in the city. Is rich.
Decent pie....expensive and wait to sit down is about 45 min.
We had the clams pizza. It was a little dry and salty. It was fine, but not amazing
Pizza was blah. Service was ok. So disappointed since there was so much hype about this place. Many better pizza places in Manhattan. Don't waste your time or money here
Loved the experience of having a Neopolitan Pizza at the oldest shop in New York. Had the Original Margherita pizza along with a carbonated drink named 'orange something' ( I don't remember the exact name). The pizza was worth the hype and the servers were nice. Overall, a must go place for experiencing classic pizza in New York City!
We went there for pizza. The pizza is a distinct style that we didn't particularly care for--thin crust (nothing wrong with that), thick base of sauce (too much for me), and splotches of fresh mozzarella melted on top of sauce. The ratio of cheese to sauce was very low and the cheese did not cover all of the sauce.
I can accept a different style of pizza . What I found unacceptable was to be given cardboard plates on which to eat our pizza and cheap plastic cups for our water. If this was a take out order, that's fine. But it wasn't. We ate at the restaurant.
We also ordered a bruschetta appetizer, which was disappointing. The tomatoes were not of a high quality and had little flavor. And the other flavors had no depth or nuance. It tasted like a first try by a young family member just learning to cook--okay for home, but not something for guests. The bread on which it was served, though not a hamburger bun, reminded me of one. This was mediocre pot-luck fare, not restaurant quality.
The service was fine, but the food very disappointing. I would not recommend this to a friend.
Perfect service with a awesome waiter (very friendly with a smile on his face the whole time and he sings while walking sometimes ).
Pizza was delicious.
Price was a bit higher but for the whole package OK
Loved it, great pizza great salad and great service, will go back again.
This is the BEST pizza I have ever had. I have literally considered planning a trip to NYC just to eat there. The Italian sodas are also very good. Everyone who works there is friendly & helpful, even though they are usually packed wall to wall!
Come on: the pizza is ok, but definitely not worth a detour. The setting is - depending on what aera you will be seated - rustic to shabby. And 30 $ for a bottle of simple white house wine? No way!
Good atmosphere!! Good pizza!! Good service!! It s a classic got to go to restaurant.
Coal fired pizza is overrated in my opinion. Not the best tasting crust
After walking through the 911 memorial, my wife and I came back to eat at Lombardi s pizza. Atmosphere was good, pizza was just ok. Have had better pizza but I guess I went there mainly for the history.
Great pizza, excellent crust, good chew. Pricey, but it's New York.
Always a hefty queue, but the pizzas are worth it! They sell great pizzas!
Heard about this place on the internet, so I decided to try it before I depart from New York. The food is average, the service is not good, the atmosphere is not bad though. You can tell this restaurant has history. Probably useful information: they only take cash.
Pretty good. In addition to fast since we only wait 20 minutes to be seated, the mass of the pizza is spectacular, some add to the simplicity of the pizzas but with a good mass everything else is left over. The very typical Italian place and the very friendly staff. But eye can not pay with a card and therefore I put 4 stars
Great guys served me just before closing. Thanks so much I was sick as a dog and needed some food. Yummy calzone
Inside is historic and old, which we love. Service is ehhh, but all comes down to the pizza and it s just not worth the price, at all. We got the sausage, onion and peppers and thought it was ok. Much better pizza around.
They ONLY take cash. A pizza, a couple drinks and tip will set you back $45.00 easily. Yes there is a small ATM outside the door for those that find out when they ask for the check, they need cash.
I've eaten here 5 times over the years. Taking family or a friend. Each time, I realize a little more that the history and lore of the place is over-rated.
Sure it's a life experience due to the background but as I visit NY more and more, I've learned you can do much better in terms of taste, atmosphere and in this economy, price.
Whatever this place once was, it is no longer. Lombardi's has no real atmosphere. Your crammed in small spaces, you eat just the pizza and a drink and you go. The pictures all over the building are of the owner looking like a used car salesman as he hovers over a pizza in his spotless chef coat. His photos clearly display a guy that doesn't cook the pizza while acting like he knows how. It's a turn off with so many of them. Along one wall there are six in a row. Why?
The pizza is good. But not great. The red sauce tang is borderline vinegar. In any time we had pepperoni or any topping, it is sparse. No to mention the toppings are small. Bubbled dough isn't the exception, it's normal in my estimation as every pizza has always had one if not two.
So over 7 years of visiting NY, I've experimented and looked for other brick oven pizza shops. Yes, Lombardi's is grandfathered in as coal fired and that is perhaps the ONLY redeeming quality with a distinct taste I will endorse. But I've found better.
For example, Patsy's pizza has more to offer for a lower price. Fresh mozzarella and basil leaves. Amazing brick fired taste. The seating is spacious and the menu offers alternatives for those with you that just won't be eating pizza. I prefer the one on the west side of Central Park on 74th street. I hear the original in Harlem is to die for.
Lombardi's is something of a touristy gimmick at this point. Sure it's better than the trappings of Time's Square and it's off the beaten path, but it's not a destination that is worthwhile. You'll invest valuable time in NY you can spend elsewhere, travelling downtown to this joint without much to do in the area unless you want to window shop a few eclectic store fronts.
Mediocre food and service in an interesting setting.
Food was good but certainly not the best pizza in New York my 25 dollar pie I thought would be way too much food for me and boyfriend but it turns out it's rather small and light glad we ordered the bread sticks to fill us up but between that and the fact that you had to order a whole picture for 11 for soda also had to buy water at 7 no water served to tables the food was decent but not amazing and you kinda of paying much more at pizza place than you had planned for an ok experience
A trip to NYC is never complete without a pizza from the oldest pizza shop in the city. Great brick oven flavor and original recipe. The wait is worth it! ( Cash Only! Come prepared.)
Went to this place 4 or 5 years ago and me and my wife loved it, we returned today and we were so disappointed... not one single member of staff seemed remotely Italian as the last time, paper plates and plastic cups with a $30 pizza??? the large pizza was dramatically smaller and taste had lot to improve on compared to my last time (in other words, very bland and tasteless) and on top of that me and my wife felt sick minutes after leaving the place and had to rush to bathroom. NO JOKE! Very sad to say that the legend has died and now is a tourist trap, trust me go deep into the NYC neighborhoods and go to a REAL mom and pop pizza joint and get real NYC pizza
The food was excellent. We had a calzone, which was a very good size, and a specialty pizza. The ingredients were amazingly fresh. The mozzarella tasted like they just made it. Even the ricotta cheese had a very fresh texture to it and tasted exquisitely smooth. The meats were sharp and very tasty and the fried eggplant topping on the pizza was second to none. My favorite part was the crust. Having enjoyed New York Pizza since childhood it's all about that crisp crust. The pizza only had fresh mozzarella so it didn't have the top that you would normally expect but the crust itself was incredible. Everything I remember and everything I love about New York City Pizza.
Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the place, very friendly, and very responsive to our dining needs. At the end they even encouraged us to go in the back and look at the oven. The story of the oven is quite telling of the owners desire to remain authentic.
The only downside, if you want to call it that, is that they only take cash, they are usually very busy, and it is quite expensive.
It felt like i stepped into pizza past with the gorgeous looking interior of this pizzeria. We had the margarita/white pizzas they were absolutely delicious! Perfect service super welcoming and always trying to make our vist awesome and it was.
Pape plates? Plastic cups for a 4 dollar drink? Food was "eh" for the 40 dollar 13" pizza. Pizza has come a long way since 1905 and for the better. Also pizza was very salty for some reason.
It's like a staple and a place to visit and check off the list. First pizza place is NYC, although in a different location from the original. So it's nice, pizza is good. I think it's overrated, overpriced, super limited menu, but like I said you get to visit the first pizza joint, so yea. Not a place I would consistently visit.
Food is excellent (must try the hummus just for the fresh baked pita) place is very small so it can get loud when full. Service is first rate.
Pizza was very tasty. The service was fast, but the staff was quite unfriendly. This was my second time in Lombardy's and the experience was consistent.
The place is cash only!
22 usd for a Margherita and 30 for a salamino (pepperone) with plastic plates and glasses, they are certainly not worth it, even if it is the first pizzeria opened in New York in 1905 ...
Very nice vintage atmosphere but the food wasn't as good as some other restaurants.
Dont waste your money!
I used to live in the West Village and Lombardi's was my go to Pizza place.
Never again, the small pizza was $20 a rip off. it was burnt and the small amout of cheese they did put on was brown with black bubbles.
the $10 salad was greens and 1 sliced mushroom. No tomato , no cucumber, the place is relying on there being the oldest pizzaria in New York reputation. Well it was very disapointing and we will NEVER be back!!
Delicious pizza and salads. Very cordial attention from Paul
Hey, let's get a slice of pizza at Lombardi's! Nope, no slices. OK, we'll just have a drink and leave; here's my debit card. Nope, just cash. Here's the thing: if you want the best pizza in the country, leave New York and head up to Pepe's in New Haven. Lombardi's can't hold a candle to that place.
Good coal fire pizza. Prices seem high on first glance but the wife and I were completely full with a small order of bread sticks and small margherita pizza. Bathroom situation wasn't great, and cash only stinks.
great atmosphere, pizza is great, but not mind blown.
Great place! Friendly staff and great pizza since 1905!! Highly recommended!
Had pizza, just that its an old establishment otherwise pizza was average to less than the expectations
Great time here with family and extended family. After all these years I still have their business card to ensure my return. Pizza is authentic and unique tasting. The environment is spot on for a family night out.
Very good NY pizza. A bit pricey and cash only but worth trying it during our vacation. We had to wait about 2o minutes before we were seated.
