Food is hit-or-miss, but the beer selection is great.

Food is hit-or-miss, but the beer selection is great.
Strong drinks, great value, and friendly staff. The only downside is the bar area is really dark. Make sure you bring a flashlight.
I myself and not into beer all that much but somehow they found a way to make it tastes so good and still keep the beer quality thank you for all of your efforts I will tell everyone I can about you also the food was phenomenal
Decent dated corner pub at 44th & Spruce with bar, craft beer, and good food. Lunch menu items are unique, organic, fresh, and tasty, however a bit pricey as entrees average $14. Ample seating exists.
Usually go here when I come visiting, tonite I tried the red beet burger it was excellent .
Awesome craft beer selection, lots of local stuff. Chill place
They have a great variety of beers on tap that will suit anyone's taste. The food, on the other hand, is only okay. I've gotten their wings and their pulled pork sandwich ... the wings were terrible (not crispy, the sauce was bland, and they were trying too hard to appeal to a hipster crowd with complications over simplicity), but the pulled pork sandwich was pretty good but overpriced. If you're going to go here, come for drinks, but find food elsewhere.
Always a great beer list, usually great food as well. They keep changing their veg options which is annoying because they used to be AMAZING now they are just good.
The other two places by the same owners in South Philly are also great and have lots of tasty vegetarian/vegan options and varied/interesting drinks.
Wonderful service, the brussel sprouts were amazingly delicious as an appetizer and the rest of the real equally fabulous I highly recommend.
A neighborhood watering hole with a solid selection of local brews. The bartender was friendly and a bit unprofessional - perfect for a neighborhood spot. The beer selection stood apart. Good sours, good single hop IPAs, good imperial. This place is exactly what I want from a corner bar.
Awesome happy hour specials, best brussel sprouts around
Was going to try this place out till i read the review about mice running around gross me out
Not my first review for Local 44, the atmosphere is local and low key and its always a winner for a late dinner. But for Heavens sake, put some lights on outside so we know if the place is open. I showed up with friends after talking the place up and we weren't sure if it was open or not.
Friendly staff. Great beer selection. Tasty vegan options.
Big fan. Delicious upscale takes on bar food. Excellent craft beer. Nice bar atmosphere.
this place is awesome! Nice selection of brews and they use local ingredients in their food. The local honey butter is a real treat.
I've been going here since it opened and have always enjoyed this local spot, but one point of concern, I have witnessed the food portions decease as the prices increase. Beer is excellent, sit back and drink, just don't be surprised when you get the bill.
Great beer selection with a local feel. Menu has vegetarian and vegan options as well. Spot in for dinner or just a quick bite and a beer.
We came when we couldnt get into the new taco place. Decent bloody Mary's & a burger. Liked the stickers on the pole outside.
Good beer selection, good food. Chicken happened to be undercooked twice, but they've graciously responded with perfectly cooked chicken the third round on the house. Love this place, and will visit again soon.
This is great place for lunch or dinner. I like going here for dinner more. The food menu is unique and pretty good. My favorite item on the menu is Koren fried chicken. I love it. Their beers are great too!
Overall I think it's a good place for the prices.
I would give no stars, if possible. Came in with a couple of friends. Two other groups of people followed after us, but the cashier had his eyes on us from the moment we walked in. A friend of mine had no interest in buying beer, so she just hung out by the door, on her cell phone. The cashier kept asking us, only us, asking if we needed help...following us around the tiny space, pretending to tidy up around us. When we went to pay, he asked all three of us for our IDs, including my friend who hadn't touched or even looked at any beer. We are all 23 years old with valid state IDs, but it's the principle. I told him that only two of us were at the register with beer in hand, trying to pay and he said it was "state law". I attempted to inquire further about said law, when he snatched the beers out of my hand and went to put them away. I am not sure if it was because my friend was Muslim, or because we were all African American, or if it was because this poor cashier was upset for having gone bald so prematurely and was far below the average height for an American male (can we say Napoleon complex?). But we were definitely profiled and treated very poorly from the moment we walked in. No worries, Fresh Grocer has a beer garden now :)
Came here for happy hour. Prices are good but I didn't like the happy hour food options. Nice beer selection.
Good vibes. Ask about points on your receipt. It pays to be there
Great happy hour prices on beer and appetizers! A descent selection of craft beer too.
A great local bar for some good beer and tasty food. Been coming here for close to a decade on and off (made an appearance or two at Kelly Anne's when I was a young under-ager). They seem to want to be THE local bar, and they've stayed consistent in that effort. Sneaky good spot to watch a game if you snag a good seat at the bar.
Food is very good here with vegetarian and vegan options. It seems to be hit or miss with friendly service, but I would say the majority of the staff is very good.
Nice social space and good variety of beers on tap!
Only come here if you want to be another by local hipsters.
All I have to say is the deviled eggs are to die for!
I knocked this down from 4 stars to 3 b/c they added a service charge to my credit card after I signed the receipt and without telling me. So it was an unhappy surprise when I got my credit card statement. If that didn't happen, then I'd say this is a terrific gastropub that just so happens to have vegan food. Flesh eaters will like all the menu options, even the ones that just happen to be veggie or vegan. A big tip of the fork to the chef for having such an appealing menu.
I had the ramen noodle soups with saitan, feaux flesh, and mushrooms and a soft-boiled egg. Very tasty. Heads up for fellow hot spice wimps, even though I set the hot peppers aside, there was still enough heat in the dish to make me sweat like I was doing hot yoga; it's like menopause in a bowl.
Awesome beer selection, amazing food. It's loud and crowded, but I still love going there. Surprisingly kid friendly too.
Good rotating beer selection. Good service. Great older college atmosphere
By far one of my favorite bars in the city. Artisan crafted food compliments the large beer selection. The bar tenders are friendly. Would recommend to everyone
Went here for the first time last Friday. The food was really good, I had the 44 burger and it was delicious. The service was friendly, fast, and very efficient. I expected to wait a long time for food because it seemed very busy, but they were on point. Will be going back again for sure. Obviously good beer selection, and the beer place next door is a good next move. Thanks for playing the flyers game on the tv!
Nice wings and I can always catch the Alabama games there
Great rotating beer selection with local beers as well as beers from elsewhere. Limited menu with no wrong choice!
Good food! Could use a bigger selection. Great bar though!
Nice place to have a pint, but I'm pretty sure the hush puppies were burnt and it wasn't on purpose.
I love this place! It's a go-to for a meal and drinks.
Very loud, VERY LOUD. Went with 2 other people. I had the chicken ceasar salad, it was good. My friends did not like their burger or Reuben, way too salty.
This place is okay. It's just another trendy spot that charges too much for hipster-themed items like seitan "chicken" nuggets or a fancy mac & cheese. The food tastes good, but value-for-dollar it's overpriced simply for the fact that it's bougie. For instance there is nothing particularly special about their $13 burger. It tastes good, but it's an $8 burger at best.
The beer selection on tap is great, even a non-beer drinker will definitely find something they enjoy here. I would definitely recommend this place to beer enthusiasts. The food is also nice and reasonably priced.
Came in at closing time. The bar was rustic. Nice liquor and beer selection.
Very cool place! 1/2 bar, 1/2 sit-down restaurant with a nice, relaxed feel. Trendy beers and food. The lamb hamburger I had was one of the best hamburgers ever! And I know my food :). Check this place out!
Philly beer week event - great beer and great service
Great selection of rotating beers, both local and from elsewhere. And in my book you can definitely judge a pub by the burger they make and theirs are stellar.
Great food. Great beer. Vegetarian and vegan friendly. Also, great music choices.
One of the best tap lists around, especially for local beers. Surprisingly excellent food (gotta try the brussels sprouts) and lots of vegan options for those into that sort of thing. Great waitstaff and fun environment. Highly recommend.
Very classy and welcoming place with good food and a charming ability to serve a diverse crowd.
Great service and comfortable atmosphere. Good variety of food options with several tasty vegetarian appetizers
We went for the Trivia on a Sunday night and had a blast. Order the popcorn on the app menu, it's fortified! We had the beet burger which was delicious and the caramelized wings, which smelled just awful, but tasted great!
Such a great gem in West Philly; perfect hip craft beer bar. Pretty impressive and creative food as well.
I hope its just with delivery, but this was some really bad food! The Chili was saturated with oil, wings had a boiled like texture, and the sprouts were overcooked and under seasoned. Just overall really bad, I'm shocked; again I hope this was just a one time thing, because I would not recommend.
Large craft beer selection. A bit pricey, but nice atmophere.
Good place for drinking in University city.
Good amount of vegetarian and vegan dishes.
Their Ramen is pretty spicy. Love it.
What a wonderful place! I have a diverse group of friends and we went here a few nights ago. Lol, we couldn't be more of a McDonald's commercial. I am always late putting in reviews, so here are my thoughts. Service gets 5 stars. Operations gets 5 stars. Food gets 5 stars. Environment gets 5 Stars. And I have been giving Equality Ratings as of late. Management was nice enough to check if me and my boyfriend were doing well. For an interracial couple, their Equality Rating gets 5 Stars due to management.
Great beer selection, knowledgeable friendly staff and excellent food, especially the burgers! Great date spot
Great selection of rotating beers. Some of the best wings in west philly! This place usually gets pretty packed on the weekends sonplan accordingly.
one of the best beer lists in the city, happy-hour specials on local beers during the week, and bike races (ronde de vlaanderen anyone?) make this a great pick. sometimes marred by snotty penn undergraduates.
I tried the gnocchi with stroganoff and it was delicious! I had Apple Cider, that was very good. I liked the atmosphere and the attention was very kind. Prices were fair enough. For one person, think that you could spend here around $30 for drinks and food.
The go-to bar of West Philly, Local 44 has a solid balance of all the things you'd be looking for: a bar with a good variety of drinks, sit-down table service with decent food options, and a bottle shop. The food includes solid vegan options, and the beer let is well curated (you won't find any Budweiser or Coors). It's reliably good, though the ever-changing draft list does run the risk of getting you hooked on a drink that won't be available by your next visit. The place is moderately pricey but if you're looking for a high quality experience overall bar experience, Local 44 delivers.
Food is tasty, if a bit pricey. It's a connected bar and dining room.
Very nice bar, but gets too crowded during weekend nights. So try te get a good spot and stay there. Good beers!
Absolutely amazing fried brussel sprouts and burger. Great beers as well.
This place is really loud and the food (and beer!) is very good!
Nice Atmosphere. Brunch burger was undercooked after requested Medium.
I love the fries and the beer selection is usually excellent. Combined with the low key and warm vibes and you've got a winner.
Really good tater tots. And the Bottle Shop next door will supply your every (beer) need.
Amazing local hangout with great people, great bear and really good bar food. I recently moved and I miss this place. Definitely head on over to the bottle shop as well as it is one of the best ones in the area.
Great spot to grab all kinds of beer. Fantastic happy hour with $3 local beers on tap.
Wings and fries are very tasty and the rest of the food is well done but pricey. Sunday evenings has one of the best trivia nights around. Highly recommend this place.
Great local spot. Good beer selection and awesome food.
