LGBTQ Friendly and Positive Space

LGBTQ Friendly and Positive Space

Attended an author reading here who experienced in his youth, racism and homophobia from schoolmates and neighbours, but in maturity his attitude and tone was positive supported by a packed room of fans. The space had a stage with seats and bright lights allowing everyone a good clear view of author and interviewer. Downstairs an information lobby and cafe were open to the public.

Note: two mixed gender washrooms were an intriguing experience and maybe mixed bath houses will follow this equality trend?

I went to the LGBT center in the state of New York...

I went to the LGBT center in the state of New York the city in the area of Manhattan. This is my home state and city and area in the city. When I went to the center at first people looked at me as if they didn't know who I was and had a problem with me being there. Both the people that came there and the people that work there were very rude to me. The people who came there with stick their nose in my conversations and make comments and tell me what to talk about. they have a cafe in the center and they're more expensive than Starbucks. Pretty much people who are high class can afford to buy a decent amount from their Cafe. One time I saw a guy that works there and he was attractive. I only look at him for a minute and he got angry and threw a fit. He acted as if I did the worst thing in the world and was a totally bad. He could have just simply told me he wasn't interested. A lot of people who come to the center and work there would make comments that they don't like the look on my face. I have a natural angry look and they don't like me because of that. one day one of the staff at the calf decided to commit defamation of character against me. Now everywhere I go people have heard of me. I have been harassed and threatened and even assaulted and even told some people want to kill me. if this place was truly out to help their own community they would not have done that to me. The only out to get as much money and power as they can. Thank you for destroying my life forever on social media I appreciate it.

This place has been a long-time community resource and pride since I was a teenager. I m now approaching my 40 s and I still find myself being drawn to The Center for everything as diverse as activism to healthcare.

This is the most welcoming space I've ever been in in my life. The wealth of services and events spanning many spectrums cement The Center as the heart of the community. If you're hesitating, it's okay. You'll feel much better when you come in. <3

I go there separate from my studies, but on this occasion I needed to talk to one of the staff to find out about the community centers challenges and impact. The first visit I was given business cards, but never got a reply from them. The second visit I was told that the staff normally put talking to reporters, and or students at the bottom of the to-do list. So I was given a list of numbers of other community centers to help write my report. Other than never being able to actually speak to any of the case managers, social workers, or even the referral coordinator, this Center is the best spot to unwind, cool off, relax, have a snack, latte, and maybe chat with a stranger. We all need a community so I find this location to be great, but the staff could be more helpful.

This place is ok for the most part. Like with any other place it has its good things and bad things. No place is 100 percent good. The area of the city is also good for lgbt ones for the most part.

Hoping for similar places of civilization and tolerance to exist in Italy as well, I would like to point out the moving and erotic 'mural bathroom', splendid 'Totentanz' by the unforgettable Keith Haring. Not to be missed if you are an adult!

Sadly, management is lacking for several reasons. We rent a room for our 501(c)(3) NPO to hold our meetings. We have to force the people using our room before us as they overstay their allotted time and get serious attitude as they vacate the room. We also get shuffled around from the medium-sized room we pay $$$ for to a smaller room without warning nor cause, forcing our members to crowd around. In the hottest days of summer, we get put in a room with no air conditioning at times. On one occasion, there was a water main break in the day, and instead of contacting us about this to tell us that they were closing the entire building, there was a note taped on the door stating this fact -- leaving us with no place to hold our meeting, some people coming from as far as Boston and Pittsburgh! We're still unsure if the billing reflects these corrections/changes. If they are going to rent rooms for other GLBT groups, they need to manage it a LOT BETTER. I've stopped making donations to The Center due to this apparent discrimination.

The fanatical far Reich Christians have an agenda where they intend to infiltrate every aspect of life when it comes to the media, the arts, the music, ect. The lgbt center of NYC condones fanatical far Reich behaviour. Shame on you.

This organization who 'claims' they support free speech took money from Brandon Straka and the #walkaway group (who I support financially) to rent out their venue for a Gay Conservative discussion. Then they cancelled at the last minute. A big group of hypocrits!

A very cozy and resourceful center for LGBTQ community. A helpdesk, computers for internet, free condoms, and a cafe are available at the lobby. Many rooms are available upstairs for group events throughout the year. The courtyard is a perfect place to sit there to regain peace of mind.

I've been there to admire one of Keith Haring's latest works: Once upon a time.
The mural covers the entire wall of the men's bathroom on the second floor.
The space is open to all and the murales, in perfect condition, can be visited freely.
Making a donation is the least we can do.

In MY opinion, from my 10 years + Experience I would give this organization 0 stars if I could. If you are white, Hairless skinny/muscular light skin Asian, Muscular Black or Latin Man you will get very far in this organization, If not keep researching for another Organization to fulfill your needs. It's baffling how the LGBTQ community PREACHES acceptance YET they PRACTICE NONE of that with their fellow "LGBTQ BROTHERS & SISTERS".

The Closing of the Metanoia exhibit was a glorious thing to see because it revealed the embers burning still in many of us, over the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of our people through HIV/AIDS, are ready to come roaring back to life, and make sure this critical piece of history is not forgotten or edited out of the book.

I have been attending the center for events for the last 10 years Marching In the pride parade with them for the last 6 years. I've done groups with them I've done 12-step groups with them when I made it to when I was in need of therapy that were there for me. I've made many friends and allies at the center and will continue to go until the end of time. It's a safe haven for all walks of life and a great place to come relax have something to eat, study, talk, get away from the world or just relax. They offer support groups, they offer education for HIV and other diseases. Also, there is always safe sex tools at the front desk that are complementary because that is very important especially in the LGBT community. Stop by the center at 208 West 13th Street if you are having trouble finding your tribe and are part of the lgbtq plus community or just an ally and run stop and there is definitely something for everybody

Whenever I visit NYC, I always stop off at The Center to see what's going on. Sometimes I check ahead to see what groups are meeting that I'd like to join. Then I plan my trip around that group's meeting. I've met lots of friendly NYC guys and women at The Center.

I was visiting for the first time and the front desk had no care about that. The community there seemed as if my first visit didn't matter. Nor the person before me. It's a nice space, but I don't think they care about their community much. Really was disappointment and my excitement passed quickly. :(

It offers a variety of services and outlets. It could do better as far as outreach. It has a separate wing which is misleading for someone new. I attended a dating seminar which was a ploy to buy a book and stage a boring talk show. Instead of being fun and connecting people it created obstacles. At times they are strict about alcohol but if you're sponsoring a big enough venue then it's ok. It's a rock for the community at the same time crippling it's efforts to fall face first into a pile of broken meth. All jokes aside it has potential.
