Hands down, one of the worst practices I have had to deal with that almost cost me my child s life. For a sick visit, instead of a pediatrician seeing my son, I had a NP who misdiagnosed my son. He had a fever of 102.5 for more than 24 hours and what looked like a skin infection on the bridge of his nose with new pink spots on the rest of his face. She diagnosed him with an ear infection! And said the nose doesn t look infected!! No pediatrician saw my son and we were prescribed meds for an EAR INFECTION!!!! If my husband and I weren t doctors, my son would have deteriorated into sepsis(infection spreading to the blood). My husband was astonished when I got back to him about the visit. He insisted we go back and we did. This time he insisted the receptionist to set us up with a pediatrician, who eventually confirmed that yes, indeed it was a skin infection that was the cause of the fever and the new pink dots on his face. He immediately prescribed us a different medication and apologized for the NPs disaster!
But what if we were not doctors? I shudder to think of the outcome! And this was not the first time. There were other instances but thank God not life threatening!
This used to be a good practice, before they expanded, before they moved.
