Servers are mostly English fluent. Excellent food, standard service. Wine recommendations were a bit off, the wine we got was good but was not what we had asked for. We asked for fruit forward and got a chestnut but was tasty nonetheless.

This place is a beautiful representation of the bad Parisian service. The waiters are execrable (especially the youngest, one wonders where he learned the trade), they do not have the courtesy to drip a wine before serving, it really feels to upset when we come to eat right here. But not surprising when you see the boss behind his bar pulling a face not possible. Good luck getting him a smile on this one! When it comes to food, it's not bad, but it's still brewery, brewery with very high prices.

Ah yes! Love on the plate an enthusiastic and efficient service. A perfect evening to regain a taste for life. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this time spent at home. There are cooks who are good and there are others who put balm in your heart. I do not know if it is the wine or the foods served but I came out lighter and ready to face the ambient gloom. An infinite recognition to Raquel and his team.

Argentine Chef Raquel Carena adds her own touch to classic bistro cooking at this Belleville institution, which also features one of the best organic and natural wine lists in the city. A larger assortment of fish and vegetable options on the ever-changing chalkboard menu will please those looking for the bistro ambiance without the over-reliance on meat you ll find in more classic bistros.

I came alone without a reservation for lunch and they squeezed me in at the bar. They were super nice to me; if telephoning I would suggest using Translate to prepare a script in French. Worth it though, 3 course lunch of that quality for 19 Euros is not to be sniffed at.

A restaurant loved by locals, if your not a local service is frosty at first but they warm up if you give them a chance. Very to the point, nose to tail dishes - 8 starters, 8 mains. Nothing gastronomically groundbreaking or draw droppingly delicious but the atmosphere and the special suggested wines made up for it.

Called up to make a reservation - asked apologetically if anyone spoke English as my French is unfortunately lacking, and was answered with a curt non and a hanging up of the phone. Made it an easy choice to avoid!

Same opinion as Patrick Feller, stale wine, canned artichokes, dishes all relatively worked, lack of sauce, taste, (fortunately the meat was good), hosts catastrophic, team eager to make money, no attention , unkempt work from a to z! to flee !

"Parisian" welcome !!!!!!, undercooked and tasty chicken. On the other hand, a fabulous Greek white wine and an excellent homemade chestnut ice cream, but served too "melted".
The client is not expected and it shows.

As an Englishman, walking into La Baratin is what one expects from Paris. Greeted with immediate ambivalence, you are ushered into mahogany seats as the bad cop bar tender tutters at your linguistic impotence and the good cop waiter soothes you, offering cute descriptions of the illegible chalk board menu. The food itself is a delicious blend of old and new French cuisine. Where Bordeaux flows as freely as a magnum of Sardinian blanc. Starters (14 euro approx) were slimy and satisfying - carpaccio oysters brought alive by flakes of coriander, tartare of fish with nutty root veg. Mains were bold (24-32 Euro), buttery staples of sweetbreads and lamb - no frills with the garnish. It s all about the main event. Desert was chocolate mousse, dark silky and moorish and a pear sponge, unctuous and caramelised. A place well worth the trip.

Wonderful, wonderful bistro. The food was extraordinary, and you can tell the ingredients are very fresh. The cooking was excellent. Instead of the usual 1 appetiser, 1 main and 1 dessert. I ended up eating 3 appetizers, 2 mains all by myself because it was just so so good.

The raw sardine was extremely fresh and fatty, no bad ocean smell at all.

The veal tongue was boiled to a nice tender texture, even better than most other beef tongues I've tried.

The veal intestine cooked in tomato sauce and capers was amazingly soft and tender.

Extremely tender lamb neck with various vegetables, sweet spices and rice. The meat was so juicy and soft I didn't even need to use a knife. The highlight was the piece of lamb tendon which was very silky and soft. The variety of vegetables such as chilli peppers, ginger, onion, garlic gave a very middle-eastern twist to the overall flavour of the dish. INCREDIBLE.

The food may be good but the waiters keep reminding you that you have to leave before the next service, the impression is deplorable, they only think about taking your money? In short we do not come back a second time.

Simply the best. Inspired and precise cooking with the best products. That is why Raquel - the chef - has so many 3 stars chefs fans (Roelinger, Bras, Pacaud, Guerard) . Exceptional selection of natural wines with the best Champagnes ,Bourgogne, Loire and southern wines. And exceptionally affordable (if you drink normally )

Really it s spiel ..

Really it s spiel ..
The quality is not (or more) up to the price.
it's good but not better than in some cheap addresses and the note is super salty! 165 for 2 (starter dessert and a bottle of wine) it is frankly abused .. if the cuisine was exceptional no problem but this is not the case and the card offers only a few things .. the service is almost blah the impression of disturbing and asked to leave the premises quickly!
Anyway, I m not going anymore!

It's been a long time since I've had dinner in such a good brewery, especially in Paris where sous-sous replaces the kitchen; including in upscale neighborhoods. It was necessary to come in the 20th between the subway station Pyrenees and Belleville. We were welcomed when we had not booked. The server is available. An excellent, fat-free veal roe with its juice. A cheeky beef cheek cooked in its juice with crunchy vegetables. We ended with an excellent not too sweet apple crumble and a light Tahitian vanilla cream with fresh mango. Very good wine cellar for amateurs. Bravo!

We dined there three times in a row lately, experience one of the best in the neighborhood, the welcome always so sympathetic discreet and warm to who knows how to feel it (if you like to get your pumps waxed, go your way). If you don't feel it immediately, don't take it to yourself and have a drink again! The dishes and wines are admirable (a frank but fine cuisine and very well executed, the wine sometimes you just have to ask to taste!), Always well tuned by the waiters who know their products well which is always pleasant.

I had decided not to say anything about our deplorable evening at the Spell before the summer, but once again journalistic buddies who were too laudatory (friends of the boss?) Persuaded me to write it: the reputation of the spiel is now overrated. I'm sure it was good the first few years. And for good reason: I went there several times, with a nice taste pleasure.
But restoration, it wears out. And there, it shows, it gets along and alas it tastes.
The venere black rice - which I know well to cook it every week - was not cooked, and no, mister the boss, it is not eaten like that, and sorry mister the boss that YOU liked it thus, because it is unpleasant to the tooth. Not everyone, the boss, the cholocat cream is not a foam, the texture is different, the taste too. And your foam was not good, too sweet.
The meat - veal tendron - was either overcooked - for me - or rather rare for one of my friends -.
And YES, THE SMILE, MR. THE BOSS, is part of the business, and the convenience of the place!
I had brought an Irish friend, greedy and good blogger ... he did not appreciate at all.
The sales pitch? Spoof.
Get back together, the team!
I don't put my feet there anymore, nor my taste buds.

Bistro to run away! Huge disappointment! This is the feeling we had after having dinner at Baratin with a group of friends (we had however highly recommended) ... The setting is noisy, crowded, and very cold in its decoration. The correct cuisine does not justify its very high price level. The wine is OK, but no nice surprises for the price displayed. But the most intolerable was the service ... The waitresses are aggressive, you sway the dishes with small remarks and glares. There is a constant feeling of disturbing throughout the meal. And the boss makes absolutely no effort to welcome his customers. In the end, a very salty note for an unpleasant moment without great cooking. We will not come back!

Walked in, as soon as they opened. Spoke in French asking for a table and the guy said they were fully booked. There was only 1 couple sitting down. Hmm ok thanks? My first reaction was to laugh because I honestly thought he was joking I asked again he said no, they are fully booked. If you want to turn around someone say it. I prefer you say "I don't want to serve you" versus a fat lie.

Home deplorable, despite a reservation 2 weeks in advance, impossible to get a table that is not in the passage and that allows us to be comfortable at 5 (without a person is stuck against the window...). When we asked to change, the boss was of no help, and we ended up leaving.

My chef cousin loves this place . Met her for lunch here one day but the proprietor was so scary ( stood glaringly in front of me ,with folded arms, blocking my path ) made it clear he didn t want my custom . Despite my cheery bonjour .Even though the restaurant was supposed to be open at that time , I retreated to wait for cousin outside and then he locked the door ! If that s how he greets potential customers , god knows what kind of a welcome regulars get . Perhaps the food is really good , maybe he hates foreigners ? Maybe it s lousy ? Alas, I will never know ! Personally I can never be so hungry as to want to eat in an establishment like this . Avoid , unless up for a uncomfortable , hostile encounter .

And the boss much more fun than it looks !! a man faithful to his conception of good food !! the proof is in the dishes that we serve you !! it comes from the heart all that! think about it.
A big thank you to the chef whose smile is as generous as the dishes ..
We will return because it is a rare and precious place ..

A restaurant that has changed a lot.

A restaurant that has changed a lot.
The quality of the products is no longer there. The waiter does not bother to present the wine list is not pleasant and rebukes his colleague in front of the customers. The atmosphere takes a hit. A 28 suckling lamb with very little meat and a lot of fat, a very strong smell that makes one think of poor quality meat.

Overall prices far too high for the experience offered.

A casual bistro It's delicious at night, and the store in the downtown area has a lingering finish. The dessert is interesting. Madam in the kitchen is very racist. Is he a racist? I was asked, but I have no idea that it is a race that is unfriendly except for regulars. There is no answer unless you ask directly about that area. If you visit here, dinner is definitely better than lunch. There are no choices in the daytime, and there is no power in the dessert. Even if it hits, it's a lucky wine. WC is abundant down the stairs and is clean and safe in the basement Although there are individual differences in the staff of the store, except for the old man at the counter, it is generally a supper. What kind of ingredients do you want to eat in advance because you have a hard time? Is it safer to prepare for it?

Really good wine (exceptional even) in a wonderful Parisian atmosphere! A delightful little neighborhood bistro with delicious French family style food. Patrons, stuff and owners are welcoming and very friendly. For decades this is one of my favorite places when in Paris. It is certainly worth any detour!

Great products make great food, simply good classic French food.
Wine list also offers some great quality wine yet affordable.
Service can be a bit rude and lacking smiles but that's the Parisian touch! Would not be a real Parisian bistro otherwise ;-)

Worth the short trip out. Unpretentious, delicious and tremendous value (lunch menu 19 for 3 courses). The dishes focus on the use of all parts of the animal and the menu is informed without bowing to the latest whims of the current food fads.

The bistronomy for me before, it was just something we talked about in magazines. And then I pushed the door of the Boar.

In a refined and refined setting, the plate consists only of fresh, finely cooked products. It was just fabulously good! The quail starter was delicious, the catfish was melting as rarely a fish can be and the crumble ... to make you want to steer the Argentine cook to extract the recipe.

Very fine for the palate, the place is apparently always full and welcomes some young chefs of the capital as clients. Reservation required, better not be late, but it's worth the detour.
