I admit that this is a little bit dated. I last attended in the 19 eighty's. somethings never change. I agree with Google user 11 months ago! School is what you make of it! It's a excellent gateway to UCLA. In any college you just do not get the perks your'e used to from high school. no subsidized cafeteria, you have to buy your own books. And you have to do the homework. That time is computed into your overall load. That's why lab classes carry so few credits. It took me a while to get used to it. Even today with the horrible budget cuts, California Community College is the best deal in town. Stop whining please. My experience in the engineering department was excellent all the way through. The staff was wonderful, although the equipment wasa bit dated. More later,

Predatory book rental program designed to make its students pay FULL PRICE for inflated textbooks--text books that are HUNDREDS of dollars. it's packaged information that is otherwise freely available online. Their bookstore staff is very condescending toward students and student complaints. Don't give your money to them. GET YOUR BOOKS ELSEWHERE, download it, buy used, don't support their predatory bookstore! Also, the administration has been dragging their feet with my issue. I've asked for an intermediary meeting, nothing has been done!

Safe environment. Parking is alright (depends) Don't bother calling the counseling department for an appointment. They say to call but in reality the receptionist is busy giving appointments to those who show up. In all honesty, don't expect to get help right away, booths are always packed with people. Classrooms and buildings can do work. Still feels like the mid 1900's.

Still a favourite place to walk with dog since almost everyone obeys the leash law - which is a good thing because now four coyotes reside at and around Valley College. They can be seen roaming the campus especially dusk to dawn looking for food... Coyotes are protected unless agresive with people. Keep vigilant if you have a small dog or child they can be inquisitive and size you up - loud noise usually gets them moving along.

Campus police regularly patrol the campus and are fairly friendly.

Very good school, my son with autism is studying there and they help him as necessary and treat them the same as any other student that I like that they do not make them feel less or with any difference, there are counselors, specialists in therapy, everything is confidential. They have a library and a store for what the students need, it is close to home and until now there has been no problem, thank you very much for your patience

I'm still a student of Los Angeles Valley College, but I'm thinking of leaving this school. They don't have a lot of information about their classes. They over charge people with late books. I have to pay $200.00 dollars over some books??? Are they crazy??? Do you think students make that kind of money??? Is that a way to improve our school system of Los Angeles??? Students are trying to get an education, and this school is trying to make it harder for students to get a damn education!!!

Valley College needs to be flexible for students that are in poverty. You can't expect students to pay that kind of money just to register for some classes. And the school site navigation is so unfriendly... I can't even find a freakin e-mail address to write to. I call their admissions, and they sometimes don't even bother to answer the phone, and I'm on hold for about an hour. WTF???

This school seriously needs an overhaul. Stop charging students too much of overdue books, and let the kids have damn education. No wonder I see so much people in Los Angeles, California in the streets holding signs, because you have no responsibilities to show these students the right education that they deserve!

I graduated from LAVC IN 88, with an A.A. in Chemistry. I had incredible professors who were very knowledgable & helpful. Have been back for other classes offered through the community program- very beneficial. I highly recommend it.

Started attending here since Fall 2013. This college is ok. It's big and green, parking is a hassle, the library is nicer than I thought. The classrooms (some of them) and the way the professors run them makes you feel like it's high school. There are still people who don't take things seriously and that's life. I've had no problem adding the classes I've needed up til now. That damn cafeteria was supposed to be completed last year.

I currently am a student at Lavc. Most of the professors are great and well educated. The campus is completely being upgraded. It is a really good college. I recommend going there if you are looking at a community college. It is a great place to start your college career.

My son shops here and he comes out with the best strain advice and seems truly impressed. He speaked on Hillary whose favorite strain is Skywalker, and has me go in to other places looking for Black Jack. Even suggested Distrikt gummies for my mom, which takes guts

Over all this Community College campus located in ...

Over all this Community College campus located in Valley Glen, has recently gone through a major overhaul. I attended classes from 2009 to 2011, which were mostly Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday classes, but I did have one math class that was on Saturday mornings. (8am till Noon) My review is based from that information.

Parking lots were always a difficult and very daunting task, after one semester I quickly learned I had a better shot finding parking on the street. FREE street parking! Because even when I did find a parking spot in the lots, getting out of the lots were a nightmare! Except during my Friday night classes, hardly anyone wanted to be at school on Fridays. Even though I no longer attend this school, I drive by quiet often and the system looks the same. EXCEPT now they have even less parking lots to fight over. They "recently" filled on up with TENNIS courts!!

Classes- They truly offer a large range of classes that most often works with anyones crazy schedule. The teachers are up to par, but the teachers I would recommend don't work there anymore. (Sorry.)

Special Services Assistance- I won't go into much detail, but I had bad experiences with this department. They weren't as helpful and understand as they should have been. Hopefully that was then and it's actually better now.

70% of the professors are great, parking sucks, sheriff have a bad attitude and are not helpful at all, admissions & records/bookstore/financial aid have 0 customer service.

Reflecting the San Fernando Valley's "Ghetto" stereotype very prominently.

If you try contacting the Business/Admission/Financial aid/Records office or any office in general you'll be put into either one of the two situations:
A) By phone: Placed on hold for an average of 1 hour(s) or have your call dropped
B) By email: never receive a reply (this includes some professors)

The campus is very pretty and they have lots of bunnies and coyotes. I've taken a childhood dev class with Mrs.Getskow over the summer when I was in ninth grade and it was a very fun class. Classes are free for k-12 students so take advantage of it. I normally film dance videos upstairs by the cafeteria on weekends sometimes. We have never been allowed in the pool before since we are not a part of the monarchs summer camp or other swimmers. I took another class English 101 with Mrs.Bishop and that class was easy however lecture heavy.

College is good I love the environment and the animals that are there. There is food and a cafe that you can go to and get a quick snack after class. The workers are very friendly and the counselors are great at helping you with any question that you may have. The only negative side of it is the student WiFi it s really bad and it can use some work.

I took my Speech 101 course here in 2013 and the overall experience was good, but the classroom was a little beat down. Also, getting transcripts was a pain in the lower back because (it might've changed since then) you have to physically come down instead of just ordering over the phone or internet

The absolute worst Financial Aid staff I have EVER dealt with. They never answer the phone, and they never provide a straight answer. Expect to be put on hold for 20 mins IF you can ever get through, most of the time you just get looped through the system over and over and over again.
Shameful.

In music department - fantastic! One drawback however is that they need to bring the jazz program back. Currently focused on traditional curriculum. LAVC was known for it's rounded program with jazz for decades. There is a jazz choir, but no longer a jazz ensemble. This needs to change as they will attract 2x as many students. The teachers great with very high standards for a junior college, and they are passionate and generous educators.

My experience as a student has taken me to many different colleges (six of them), and LAVC is by far the WORST I have encountered. While it's difficult to make blanket statements about such an institution (where there are some decent and hard-working faculty and staff to be found anywhere of course ), I can say with confidence that my experiences here have been consistently abysmal. Staff at multiple departments range from clueless, helpless, deceiving, and egregiously lacking in basic standards of conduct. The school seems to have established a bureaucratic, totalitarian machine to which all of the staff are slaves and the students are product. The bounds of the ineptitude of the faculty and staff continue to astound me. Any task I attempt to accomplish there, whether it deals with loans, petitions, registration, or even just returning a book, is met with so much incompetence and failures of basic customer service that it is hard to describe.

Can you believe they are charging me a thousand dollars for a semester i took after i successfully completed my FAFSA ..these people are crazy and these people are whats wrong with todays educational system! Dont let them steal your Money!

I wish I had NEVER attended; I hope you are wise enough to avoid a similar fate.

The most stupid counselor s system. Very unorganized. It is impossible to get an appointment in the office, and they never respond the emails and when you are lucky about to get an appointment (if they don t cancel it) anyway those counselors are the worse ever. It is a shame for the college to have such huge mistake.

I think it's a great community college, one of the older ones in the region so of course the buildings are old. I've seen worse. After all, LA is not one of the newest international cities in the US, have outdated infrastructure is expected. It's plenty enough quality for 2 year college study

hybrid /EV drivers must pay $5 extra for parking a day. Aside of the semester pass, ridiculous I asked why...because we are using there electricity i was told by a new sheriff. So we are helping out the environment and still have to pay extra. If you don't pay the EV parking ticket you get cited $80 insane. Cafeteria food has increased as well. G I wonder where they got the money to build those new buildings ? Tickets, EV citations, EV parking charging students to use computer lab in the new building.

Great/cheaper place to exercise at the gym through the community center or school, complete general ed & transfer to a 4yr, or learn a skill. Smaller classes for more one on one learning. Friendly students & staff. After graduating & graduating from CSUN, I still come back for the community center gym class & easy-going school atmosphere.
