So..I was a patient there for about a year and had some trouble getting pregnant. Joanne a midwife there recommended I go to a fertility clinic which I did and ended up getting and staying pregnant on my 3rd try. I was so excited but filled with anxiety as I have GAD. So halfway through my pregnancy they decide they can no longer see me as a patient due to the pysch meds I was on and had been on since the beginning of my pregnancy. Every visit they'd ask me what meds I was on and every time they didn't blink an eye. Then on one particular visit Katherine BUrke saw me and I requested another script for folic acid. Mind you I'm on a high dose due to other meds and she knew that because we discussed it several times, but that day it was complete news to her. 2 weeks go by and finally Dr. Howitt tells me I can't be seen as a patient there anymore because I'm high risk!!!! She said they legally can't treat high risk patients.Half way through my pregnancy!!! Absurd! Dr. Howitt sent me to a perinatal specialist who specializes in high risk pregnancies and after much anxiety he tells me everything is aokay. That I'm on the right course and he's not sure why Lake affect handled it the way they did. I asked if I could be seen there for gyno apt but after much thought I don't think I'll ever step foot into lake affect again. They seem incompetent and I didn't need the stress of them not thoroughly reviewing my meds in the beginning and deciding I was high risk half way into pregnancy.
Of course I am quite biased but I do think we do well trying to give care that is safe,individualized and caring. We also try to practice medicine within our scope of practice, so if we feel that a woman needs a different provider, we try our best to get her to the help she needs.
Customer service is horrible. Minimal time/flexibility for me as a patient.
When I actually expressed how I felt the receptionist responded in a rude/unprofessional manner. She spoke over me and raised her voice as I was trying to speak. I felt beyond disrespected. I ll never go back.
The health care professionals are fine. A few times comments were made about my sex life I didn t appreciate. I was a patient for years and ultimately received good healthcare. But the hassle surrounding it is unnecessary.
A womans reproductive health is far too important to be treated this way!

Dr. Howitt has been my OB/GYN for over 15 years and delivered my sons. She is amazing and always makes me feel comfortable and cared about. I highly recommend her and Lake Affect OBGYN.
