Friendly staff but high prices and nothing so part...
Friendly staff but high prices and nothing so particular sincerely a big disappointment.
Friendly staff but high prices and nothing so particular sincerely a big disappointment.
Officially the oldest restaurant in the world verified by Guinness World records, this small restaurant is a delight. Eat some of their succulent pig or baby lamb and you will be tasting history. Definitely a must in this area.
Great food. The restaurant itself is the epitome of history. It is not clear which of the chairs Hemingway was sitting in, but the walls remember him exactly. Dishes above all praise. And the average check also pleased. Recommend)
I did not make a reservation, but I went straight in and sat on the first floor.
Be careful when you are sensitive to the smell from the asylum.
There are up to four cups of champagne.
Server was very loud and I was careful to clean up the server +
It is a symbolic place, but the taste is the same.
We came without reservation, they directly gave us a table (for two) in the best place which is the basement. They are very professional and helpful. We order the suckling pig roast and the lamb roast, they were excellent. One of the best lamb meat I have ever tasted! Those meat were so tender (& the pork's skin is so crunchy). They were not over-seasoned, we can still enjoy the delicious taste of the pork and the lamb, they tasted perfect!! We also really like the rosa wine. It was once in a lifetime experience to dine in at the oldest restaurant in the world (& Hemingway's favourite) for only 25 /plate (each plate consists 3 pieces of pork/lamb meat and potatoes)!! I highly recommend it...
Separate specialties in the "oldest restaurant in the world". You will have to make a reservation.
Staff was very attentive. Three unique seating options. Suggest you take the lower level which feels 'historic'. We were advised to order the roast lamb & roast pig, great suggestion for newbie. Price to value exceeded expectation.
I shudder at every step. Unique experience of history and taste
I also had Cochinyo Asado and Gambas Al Ahiyo. It was really delicious. No feeling at all, no feeling at all. Rather, it was light and very natural, making the ingredients' original tastes well. It was a pity that two people had half bottled wine. It was really good because I was late because I was late. It should be treated properly when there are many locals, not when there are many tourists.
This is a must visit, great food and atmosphere, oldest restaurant in the world
Our experience was below average, but I wouldn't call it poor. It's too overpriced and touristy for our liking. We went with friends who were in town visiting that were dead set on going so we gave in, but we were all disappointed in it over all. I'm happy for them for lasting this long, but that alone doesn't make it worth checking out. The service was fine. The food was very average. The steak was not even close to cooked properly the first time and had to be sent back. The ambiance was nothing special. There are so many better places to go in Madrid!
It eats super rich! You need to make a reservation in advance
Historical place, restaurant with Guinness record for its antiquity.
From that, nothing else can be highlighted, it is a place focused on tourists, in fact, groups of Japanese come in mass. The restaurant has three floors on which the tables are distributed with very little distance between them, which gives a feeling of total overwhelm.
Unprofessional and unpleasant service. As for the dishes ... say that the high prices of the dishes are not worth the poor quality and preparation.
Honestly in my opinion it is NOT worth what you pay for the experience ....
It may be the oldest restaurant in the world, but the quality of service is still in the middle-ages. Clearing plates away before everyone at the table has finished and even trying to take dessert orders!
When I applied for a tour conducted by a local student of Airbnb, the world's oldest restaurant registered by Guinness , the inside of the restaurant was also included in the tour! I was impressed by the old wine cellar in the basement. Next time I go to Madrid, I would like to make a reservation and eat some food.
Oldest restaurante in the world. Food is deli and in good portions
Excellent location, we had dinner in the cellar, a marvel. Do not recommend the top floor, cod and sardines with good roasted red peppers, excellent barbecued suckling pig. Excessive prices on average about 65 euros for two courses with wine. To try
According to evaluations we went directly. We were disappointed. Correct attention. They were wrong on a plate ... Too expensive depending on what we ate. Disappointment according to reviews that we had previously read. To get to the room where we ate we had to go through the kitchen (with the risk that it entails: oils, hygiene ...). On one of the visits to the toilet we had to wait until a "head of room" and a waiter had just discussed; sad. They would have to rethink if wanting to cover so much is worth it. We will not repeat.
Oldest restaurant in existence. The cochinillio was the best pork I've ever had. However the service was not the best. Since they are constantly full due to the landmark status they don't appreciate customers very much. Went there once and not going back again.
One of the oldest restaurants in the world, I took my family as there were no tourists and it was an experience.
Average prices and good quality.
I was seated in the cellar where it's dimly lit, cozy & romantic. My server, Alberto, was very attentive. It's not customary to tip in Spain and I left him a 10 tip. That's how good the service was. If you order the suckling pig , a house specialty, tell them which cut you want. Don't order the rice pudding for dessert, it's not that good. Photographs are allowed and welcomed. Don't miss the actual wine cellar where they keep the wine . You can also ask to see the oven and if not too busy they will accommodate you. You get to keep your menu which tells the story of El Sobrino de Botin.
This restaurant is AMAZING, I ate there twice in one day
Oldest restaurant. Guiness book. Enough said. Visit.
Good service and good food, you can always improve.
Known as the oldest restaurant in the world in operation.
Do not consider arriving with the face and courage: making reservations on the website or by phone are essential ... literally crowded - more than this is to count on luck.
The place is history and worth it. But expensive and food nothing special. We eat better in several other places.
A classic restaurant in Madrid that is worth a visit. We were five people and we opted for some entrees to share: a plate of ham and cheese and a scramble from the house of blood sausage that were not bad but just right. Next we ordered some delicious garlic soups and the main course was the suckling pig which was very good. To drink we ask for two bottles of wine and one of water. The price of wine is high and is above the usual prices that you can find elsewhere. Desserts we ordered cheesecake and a Catalan cream, both desserts quite normal. Not even at the beginning they put us a snack or at the end of some shots so we miss some detail. The service was good and the waiters very friendly. The price is expensive so it is a site for special occasions.
UNFORGETTABLE!
And a place with over 200 years of history!
I had a privilege: I saw the original oven, kitchen and cellar!
All this alone is worth what I spent.
Thanks to the owners, thanks to the waiters and cooks!
Goodbye!
(P.S .: with two portions of Chocinillos we ate in four!)
The oldest restaurant in the world. And fir good reason because ther food is amazing. The ambiance is unique and worth the visit. Prices are very agreeable. The pork is yummy and the wines delicious. Go for the set menu, it is certainly worth the money.
fantastic food. definitely go for the roast pig (cochinillo) and, if you have room, the rice pudding (arroz con leche) makes for a good way to tend the meal.
One reason: Suckling pig... Service was great as well
A must stop when in Madrid. Iberico ham, croquettes, and suckling pig/lamb on the same oven for over 300 years. Crowded space, but great food and history.
Not good. The meat excellent but fried. We were advertising. Creme roar tasted kerosene. We did not pay for this. The staff ran like scalded rats. Very disturbing. Not worth the money.
The restaurant atmosphere was good, but the pork and garlic soup wasn't good. Even though the stomach is good, the pork is almost empty. I wish I could have done something else. I didn't make a reservation.
Very good. Food very good, service was nice. It's worth getting to know =)
Excellent the best pig I have ever eaten in my life!
Traditional Spanish restaurant, the oldest in the world in activity, very well located, with formal service, good wine list. Great steaks but order the pork (for 5 people).
I m sure this food was good in 1725 but this is not good food by today s standards. The building is cool but I wouldn t recommend this food to anyone especially for the price. Go for a drink, nothing more.
The oldest restaurant in the world. Perfectly preserved and with excellent attention. The piglet is made in the stone oven and is exquisite. The price is somewhat high but it is very worth going.
Lovely restaurant, friendly staff and the best roast suckling pig!
Dreadful! Shepherded into a pokey back room (accessed through the kitchen!) with appalling service and presented with a ghastly fish dish costing 21euros. Definitely thumbs down to this establishment... Best to stick to the fabulous tapas bars and restaurants in Madrid!
The suckling pig and sirloin are the best, the only thing is that it has become very touristy and this has caused the quality to fall slightly compared to the price / value. But if they go I recommend those 2 dishes, the best of the whole menu and since 1725 what makes it the oldest restaurant in all of Madrid.
A must visit site if you come to Madrid! Spectacular attention, excellent wines and high quality food. The suckling pig and the incredibly good prawns! The attention and professionalism of the waiters make this place a really special place !!! We will return for sure!
Ah well. It doesn't match me. Where is delicious if it's delicious and kind.
High prices for the amount they put, we spend only on 4 portions of suckling pig 100 and they only give you portions of ribs and very little, the truth is that for being the star dish I was disappointed, the waiters' treatment is good, I am not would repeat.
Excellent suckling pig with crackling skin in the world's oldest restaurant
Maybe a little touristy but redeems itself in full for the quality of the food. fast service. In the city center
Must go when in Madrid. The oldest restaurant in the world.
Great food, great place. In my list to visit again.
A really nice sucking pig. Highly recommended this place.
This is a tourist attraction that serves traditional food at above normal price. If you want quality food this is not where you want to go
A restaurant with history, without any food too elaborate. And above all expensive
Those who complain are that they have not gone to eat. Excellent treatment, as well as the food and the price.
Food: 10/10
Deal: 10/10
Price: 10/10
Establishment: 10/10
Historic restaurant in Madrid (the oldest in the world).
Ano to eat quickly, but these really excessive w .. we sit at 20 and at 20:25 they have already brought us the last dish so we are obliged to eat it quickly so as not to let them cool.
Madrid-style callos good, while of the 2 pieces of lamb, one was completely bone-in as seen in the photo.
Good value for money.
Amazing historical restaurant! Javier was so welcoming (like old friends). This is a must when in Madrid. Food was excellent and prices where great for what you receive. Great! Great! Great!
Yes, it's the oldest restaurant in the world. Yes, service is professional level. Yes, the interior is really nice. But, food... not so great. At least not at the level you'd expect for what you pay - for a more than 100 lunch I want amazing food, not something I'd eat and say meh.
The traditional dinner looked amazing, but the steak was fantastic!
The oldest restaurant in the world according to Guinness (continuously operating since its founding in 1725). It's packed.
Historical restaurant near Plaza mayor, good atmosphere and food
Waiters are always on a hurry and not that hospitable. Food are okay. Nothing special. I had even allergic reaction to something I ate. I normally don't have any. My face was red and had urticaria in my chest after eating. I don't know why and what was it. It's also quite expensive.
It was anazing....amazing people, service, food and restrestaurant all around...I made a reservation and showed up a day after but the wait was only like 10 min even tho they said probably 30-45....the service was amazing...we tried the cochinillo obviously(showed below) and a type of egg and chorizo soup...accompanied by a sangria and you got yourself a meal...totally recomend
A century-old shop, the waiters are sophisticated, and the cooking tastes do not match personal tastes.
Upper class service, historical surrounding, flawless food. Unforgettable.
It is an emblematic place. The food is good, good product and unpretentious cuisine. The treatment is exquisite, friendly and close. I recommend the suckling pig, the tripe and the mushrooms. Highly recommended
Awesome atmosphere and amazing history. The food was really good, but a bit too expensive for what we got.
Very rich and homemade food, impeccable service and very pleasant evening.
Disappointed. The food just so so, some staff are not friendly (even bit rude).
We were sitting on the terrace taking some spectacular slices of small dish, only surpassed by the exquisite treatment we received from the waiter, it is not normal today to find such a professional service.
Excellent reustarante. Rich suckling pig and delicious lamb. Enjoy the guiness record of being the oldest restaurant in the world
Yes, everything .. but that ... what a theater because of the oldest restaurant .. tourists are led in droves in front of the restaurant and blah blah blah ...
I also think that the price performance is not right ... there is the name on the bill ...
The suckling pig is fresh and delicious (unfortunately, the video cannot be uploaded).
The staff at the deskside are very interesting.
A restaurant with a score of 100 is worth visiting.
Excellent typical dishes. The old place - worthy of a museum - is impressive. Do not stop visiting the subsoil.
