A overhyped restaurant with tables so close to each other and uncomfortable seating. Food is normal, can visit for just being the oldest restaurant.

Excellent gastronomy .. the best suckling pig and veal I have ever eaten .. abolengo restaurant and a must to visit these cities
The pork was very tasty but arrived it warm and had 3 potatoes between two of us! For 25 a portion that's pretty bad if you ask me!
The waiter who attends the terrace is a great professional, excellent attention without being cloying. We will be back.
Nice place. Oldest restautant in the world . Worthy tradicional dishes like cocido. Yummy!
Such a lovely place to have dinner at. Be sure you book a table in advance. We were only able to get a 23.00 seating when booking a few days in advance. The food is delicious, getting the house special roast pork and lamb. And the staff are very friendly. They offer English menus and a substantial wine list. The Mariachi band was also a nice touch. Just watch your head going down the stairs.
Absolutely amazing food, especially their Sangria, make sure you get it. We all ordered various roasts and were not disappointed. Recommend.
Very good restaurant. Medium-high price that is worth paying. They treat the customer very well. the spectacular suckling pig and the hake of the best I have ever tasted
Great food, nice people, and an incredible atmosphere. Make sure to get a reservation a couple of hours before though, it can get very busy.
Quick service, nice dishes with ok prices... Give a try to the oldest restaurant of the world!
Best restaurant steak I ve EVER had! There s a reason it s the second oldest restaurant in the world (because everything is amazing)!! If you have a group, you need to make a reservation because it is very popular
It's okay, if you're eating here for the nostalgia of being in one of the world's oldest restaurants, go for it. The Croquettes and Baby Lamb were good, the vegetables with iberian ham were lousy. The service is fair, but they tend to seat everyone at the same time and that makes the first few moments and your first impression chaos. That said, they did a good job getting to every table as quickly as they could. For me, this is a one and done restaurant that's a bit tired from all the years of service.
a must see restaurant as it s the oldest one in the world
I was disappointed, for the fame it has, the lamb that they served me had nothing to write home about. I have eaten them much better.
The place is cool, many years of tradition, plus the food is poor for value, expensive to pay and wonderful to eat and a situation, plus expensive to pay and to eat without salt and seasoning is terrible. I think there are better places next door. But tradition led me to the place.
Wonderful treatment and exquisite food in a unique place. The best roast suckling pig I have ever eaten. And the desserts ... awesome. I will be back
We were 2 couples, 1 Mexican and one Colombian.
Upon entering the person who received us treated us extremely rough, we asked if we could know the place and said it was impossible, we asked if we could eat on the ground floor and said it was impossible .. we arrived 1:30 pm, said that we would have to wait after 3:30 pm
A couple has arrived who sat down after us and asked if there was a table downstairs and told them that they were looking for them, they came to look for them and took them.
Apparently they handle racism because the waiter and the person who received us treated us differently from us and different from people with an accent from Spain or other languages.
The food is really regular, I do not recommend them ...
I recommend arriving at 11:30 AM and ask if they let you know the restaurant as a tourist and do not eat there!
Historic place in Madrid. Very good quality High price
Oldest Restaurant in the world according to Guinness. Yes the place is expensive but its a five start. Great Cochinillo Suckling pig. The place is great you should try to peak to see the kitchen it is legendary. The best area is downstairs just pay attention to the stairs and everything around the tables. It's a must in Old Madrid area and a deserved stop no doubt
Incredible experience, and a must-have when in Madrid. I went in expecting it to be a typical tourist trap (especially given its status as a Guinness record holder), and while there were many tourists- was surprised and pleased to be proven wrong.
The pricing is higher than the average restaurant in the area, but not so much to be inappropriate or a cause for alarm, and certainly reasonable- my bill was under 50 Euros for an entree, wine, bread, dessert and coffee. Most of the servers I met had excellent English speaking skills, and carried themselves with the professionalism and service you'd see out of establishments more than 4x their price range.
And the food! Remarkable, delicious, a lot of attention paid towards it. While I have a minor comment to make- there was a lot of meat, and very little in the way of potatoes/vegetables, what was put in front of me was very high quality and cooked to perfection.
If i'm ever in Madrid again and have more money, I'm coming back here. Although to anyone reading this post: ignore the more Spanish dishes and go for the house specialities instead. I know, I know, you came to Spain to eat Spanish food. But really, you'll thank me later when you see the amazing food they're known for! :-)
I liked a lot. The food is excellent, very familiar treatment and atmosphere. I hope to return soon and of course I recommend it without any doubt
Cosy basement and ok food. The portions were ok sized, but the bird had a lot of bones in it. Nice waiters and good sangria!
Touted as the oldest restaurant in Spain. We were so enamoured by their signature suckling pig - truly Ambrosia. Having your meal here is also like participating in living history. Forget about Madrid's michellin starred restaurants. This is the restaurant to go to if you are visiting Madrid. Due to the high traffic the waiting staff tend to be curt rather than courteus and that is understandable.
Do try to get a reservation as there is a long queue to get in.
Fun experience. Pork was fantastic, very good gazpacho and the filet was lovely in a mushroom sauce. You need a reservation weeks in advance typically.
The oldest restaurant in the world, founded in 1795, the specialty is roast suckling pig, tasted only that and house wine.
Good but slightly expensive.
I absolutely love the spot.
I loved everything about the place including the story behind it. It was well worth the wait for a table
The meal eaten at this restaurant made me fall in love with Spain. I ate alone and was serviced excellently by the wait staff and the food was delicious and promptly served.
D-licious Meat!!!
A place with a lot of history and a grsn quality in its meals
The classic of the classics.
It is considered the oldest restaurant in the world and both inside and out, it has that essence of having been there for generations, of having had thousands of people of all kinds among its guests. It is very touristy and very traditional in food, service and atmosphere. If I had to highlight something, know that you are in a mythical place where they serve you very well. In terms of price, with the promotion that we went to from El Tenedor, it is very good, without it, it is expensive.
It's one of those places you have to go to at least once in your life.
Great food and atmosphere. The Clams Botin and Roast Suckling Pig were both spectacular.
This place claims to be the world's oldest restaurant, I personally don't buy that. But it is still a super old venue that has a very clear design and food philosophy and that it is a classic venue for rustic food.
If you are looking for a simple and hearty meal then I would recommend that you do come here. Otherwise, don't bother coming because you're setting yourself up for disappointment.
I personally enjoyed my meal and I would come back here again if I wanted a simple meal like steak and potatoes.
Food great. Prices high. Service average. Place nice.
Good experience. We ordered the main dish of the house, the suckling pig with potatoes. It was very tasty, it s prepared in a way we ve never seen before. The atmosphere is small and very busy, make a reservation. It is not a cheap dinner, but by the name of the restaurant, it was to be expected. Worth a try.
It has very good reviews. Maybe I went on a bad day. But the piglet we ordered was hard and one of the waiters a bit nasty really.
Oldest known restaurant in the would. Delicious food, and an enjoyable experience.
An excellent place. I have to say, it has surprised me a lot, I always thought it was a tourist restaurant and it caused me a certain rejection, the truth is that the roasts are unbeatable and the attention and service of 10. Congratulations, we will certainly return.
It is super hyped.
Food was 1-10 , 10 being best at 4.
For Vegetarians just a platter of steamed unsalted tasteless veges.
Not worth it.
If u have it on ur check list as one of the oldest restaurants then go., order a dish, share and split and come out happy.
Beautiful interior and good service. However food very overpriced for what is offered. The pig was good but not amazing. Others at our table got prawns which were tasteless, did not come with any accompaniments and the portion contained only 6.
A ONE TIME VISIT PLACE..
The specail Dish Roasted Pig was awesome.
The outside skin was kind of fried and inner part was juicy and rich of flavours.
The restaurant has a old vintage look and some narrow stairs. The price depends on the food you eat. We were group of 4 people and each paid 35 around.
Location is near touristic places but PARKING is hard to find.
Simply the best suckling pig in the world. A little bit pricey but it was worth it.
One of the best restaurants we went to in a Madrid. The staff was really nice, the atmosphere was cozy despite it being such a big restaurant. Also a unique experience since it s recognized as the oldest restaurant in the world. Service was really fast. We ordered the sangria which was amazing, the mussels which were also really good, a steak which pretty good. The mussels was the best dish and I recommend that. Will definitely be coming back in another trip to Madrid.
Worth going for the experience, but you can get better food elsewhere.
Visited for the nostalgia, food was not to my liking. I'm sure it was fine if you like that type of cuisine... I recommend the black sausage.
If you go for lunch, you should go out with a modest breakfast. The lunch menu has a lot of volume, and you can get a full stomach with the recommended roasted pork and onion soup alone. If you share a dish with women, you can add enough soup.
It seems to be good to enter the store at the same time as it opens because it is crowded with popular stores.
The Pig is really different. 25 euros but worth the visit!
Unfortunately, it is not worth to go to the restaurant for dinner.
Quality of the food was more than bad.
Service? What service.
It's great to have been here, but it's not worth the price.
Too bad.
historic institution in the Madrid restaurant with a wide choice of dishes including the famous roast suckling pig. absolutely necessary to book. wonderful atmosphere. tables perhaps a little too close. high prices.
Loved the oldest restaurant in the world! Wonderful food fair price!
Food was really nice, Tv for the every one of the neverending football games, good beer and good service quality!
Excellent place, there are 3 floors of pure history ... I went with my family without reservation and I got a lucky place, I recommend that you book early and the highest floor (best view and low ambient noise). The food is very good, generous portions, quality raw materials and excellent service.
This restaurant appears to be a bit of a part of history in Madrid but the food and service didn't really leave any impression. We ordered mostly the staple dishes of the restaurant such as the Botin Salad, Garlic Soup, and Suckling Pig. The service was a bit slow and you can see the staff arguing. When asked for a recommendation our waiter told us he didn't really care for any of the food.
We went because it was the oldest restaurant. A little pricy but it was expected. The roast park and lamb were tasty though the portions were not that generous.
I ate at the oldest restaurant in the world for lunch on my birthday. The food definitely didn t disappoint. The service almost did, but corrective action was taken. I tried the suckling pig, the dish they are famous for, and it was fantastic. Nice atmosphere, good food. An experience worth having in your lifetime.
Meats and especially lamb is an amazing historical place
Very special place, good attention, rich food but I expected more for the price.
The best roast lamb I've ever eaten, without seasoning that masks the taste of meat.
The food and wine were good, the service was great; could have been a tad cheaper
It is said to be the oldest restaurant in the world so if you are in Madrid, try it. The restaurant is located on 3 floors and is very nice, moreover, the waiters speak Italian but it is a bit too expensive and touristy. Gazpacho and pata negra exceptional the piglet and the lamb, on the other hand, did not meet the expectations.
It's definitely worth going once) The food is delicious.
Of the minuses: noisy, stuffy, crowded.
Traditional place. Expensive for the quality of the food they put out.
The first restaurant is not belie its name, and each of the main meals are delicious, drink wine, gracious service Ye Hao good professional, go about their day also willing to help us take pictures, store atmosphere is warm, it is suitable for dinner.
I ordered a medium steak, and it was raw. My friends weren't happy with their food as well.
My experience is good, they placed us in the cellar and that I booked just 2 hours before.
The very attentive and cordial service, without overwhelming, served quickly but without crushing the dishes on the table, something that makes me very angry.
The food very rich, some dishes somewhat expensive, but everything we ordered was very good.
The bad comes when it comes to paying, but in general it is worth it. I recommend it.
This restaurant is trading on its long history, not the quality of its food. Looks great, but tastes very average
A wonderful and historic spot. We really had great service, the prices are typical, and the suckling pig was delicious. We did make a reservation in advance, and we where seated early. Would recommend this spot for its history, ambiance, and great meal.
Wonderful restaurant! Food and service were top notch!
The oldest restaurant in the world, but also the one where you can taste a really good suckling pig even for those who come from the homeland of porchetta.
The Italian menu was the icing on the cake.
Excellent, fantastic food and great service, needs to be booked well in advance to get a table. Highly recommended
The best suckling pig I have eating in my life. Excellent service and great wine list. I was there four months age. I ll be back.
The food is okay. Very small restaurant with crowded seating. Host was very nice but waiter was a bit frustrated due to a family with several annoying children. I certainly felt that most people eating here were doing so for novelty reasons, not because of the quality of food or service. Average price for two entrees, an appetizer, and bread is about 60 euro.
I made a reservation and visited through the homepage.
There is no special lunch menu.
If I ordered Kochiniyo Asado (grilled little pig) according to the number of people, the amount was large, so I ordered only one serving in two and added salad and bread.
Bread is 1.75 euros each, so you must return the bread you don't want to eat.
The pork is soft and moist, and the skin is crispy. It is good to eat with Sangria.
Overall, it's not cheap, but I think it's okay at least once.
