Great combination of art, heritage and nature. The old dark fort is a special exhibition space where the artworks come into their own. Then as a bonus that beautiful nature at the river Linge.

Nice place to rest. Just a pity that you can no longer drink a beer here.
Great fort to view. Not a place where you cannot look. Lovedly maintained by the volunteers, which only makes the experience more beautiful. Beautiful nature and a beautiful village nearby.
Nice terrain with lots of fun educational activities for children.
Since 1985, the KunstFort Asperen Foundation has presented contemporary art in a monumental location; high-profile exhibitions in a setting of military heritage and the landscape of the New Dutch Waterline. After 32 years this beautiful and long tradition comes to an end. The KunstFort Asperen Foundation will cease to exist on 1 January 2018. From this date, the responsibility for the management and operation of the fort and the Tavern is in the hands of owner Staatsbosbeheer.
Fort Asperen is a fort that was part of the Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie, and is located southeast of Asperen in the municipality of Lingewaal in the Dutch province of Gelderland. The tower fortress is located long along a dike that is a passage (access) in the Waterline.
There is a canal around the complex and the fort is accessible by a drawbridge. The heavy three-story building consists of external walls one and a half meters thick. The three floors consist of a basement, ground floor with gunshot holes, first floor with gunshot holes and completely above an earthen top battery.
In the tower fortress there are sleeping quarters, a pharmacy and sickbay, a storage place for meat and a reservoir for collecting rainwater. The rainwater seeped through the earthen layer on the roof, after which the drinkable water ended up in the reservoir in the basement via drip trays. In 1881 a counter-carp, which had to make the tower bomb-proof again, was added. On the ground floor a large shed for guns was built and in the basement warehouses for the storage of gunpowder and projectiles with filling place. The fort was designed for 219 men and 14 guns.
In World War II, the fort served as a transit point for people in hiding. After that it served as ammunition storage for years and finally as a training area for the Population Protection Service.
The fort was recently restored in the artillery shed, the Tavern came. The design for this Tavern was made by agency SLA. To create more space without adding more buildings on the island, a cellar was added to the Tavern.
Nice fort.
You can have a nice coffee with some extra on the adjacent terrace.
The fort can also be visited inside, this costs an entrance fee
Fort was unfortunately closed when I visited it .. But I still enjoyed the beautiful view
Beautiful had no idea what it was now I recommend it
In the past a military site and part of the waterline. Unfortunately, little more information about this. When you enter there is a map and you have to remember that, because there are no further indications for what the rooms were used for. No furnished space as an example of how the military stayed there, etc. Unfortunately, all attention is focused on exhibitions by artists. Unfortunately. There could be so much more here besides the artists
friendly people, very much to see and learn about the water line during the second world war, impressive stories, reasonable entrance fee, no museum card valid,
a nice coat is advisable inside, because it is very fresh and drafts are quite different in the various areas to be seen.
cozy terrace for delicious coffees is also present.
Beautiful nature, nice and quiet (it's Sunday ....)
Historical place where in ancient times the territory of the Netherlands was defended by the Dutch Waterline.
Fort Asperen can be visited.
Do not dare to say anything about this. Much has changed in the time after my visit.
A very beautiful environment. Ford Asperen is a good place to be. Lovely rustic after a beautiful bike ride along the Linge.
Beautiful place in our village. You can see and do everything there. If I may give a tip, the apple pie is delicious!
Nice place for a cup of coffee or something else. Betuwe fruit juice and apple pie also recommended. Adds that the ministry is good and friendly. All that in a unique place. An address to drive for.
Very tasty apple pie and spice cake, friendly service!
A nice place for a delicious cup of coffee and various homemade cakes.
Nice outside with a good glass of pear juice. Friendly service.
Fort Asperen is a nice place to relax with a cup of coffee and super tasty apple pie. The fort is located on the clog path route of 14 km. Also for a bicycle and moped there is room to put it down. Nice terrace. Everything is well and neatly taken care of.
Was well cared for and great food. I had a nice day. Is worth repeating.
Good food. Products from farmer and baker from the area
Leuk om met kinderen een keer te kijken of om op zondagmiddag een glaasje te doen.
Unfortunately only open on Sundays so difficult to judge. Beautiful surroundings
Unfortunately closed
yes I already read that, but I was there before and I will go that way again, thank you for your response
The building is interesting. But the exhibition of painters was very low level. The neon sculptures were nice. But I think there is something better possible with the role of the building in the past and art now. Possible with dolls or so is more out of images.
Interesting, too bad it could not be viewed from the inside
Really a village feeling in the tavern in Fort Asperen. Cozy atmosphere through the combination of new construction with wood!
The fort is busy with a restart, but the tavern is open. (Not on Mondays and Tuesdays)
Nice reuse of a building. Once part of the Hollandsche Waterlinie, now an exhibition space with a strongly noticeable history. Well done.
The environment is also worth seeing again.
Looks impressive. Unfortunately could not be viewed today. Spacious parking lot
Today a stop in our annual cycling trip along the Linge stopped here for the first time. Never had to wait so long for coffee as on this Sunday. Next time try another terrace.
A great solution for a rainy day. And when your lucky ther is a glass exposition of the glass museum of Leerdam.
Have not been inside, but looks nice from the outside.
Nice late summer at Fort Asperen, with a glass of white wine in the September sun and the beautiful surroundings!
White dot (sandwich) with a sausage 4euro ??? Soup half cup without taste. Hopefully they see improvement points here .
Impressive, large, beautifully restored very beautiful dome!
Nice & interesting tower fort. Implement improvements for the hospitality industry.
Nice building and well maintained. Nice exhibitions and nice tavern.
Beautiful old fort. Beautiful environment. Nice and quiet.
Very nice. Antiquity meets new (modern art) take some time for it!
Beautiful countryside, very nice staff and good beer!
Nice coffee stop during a walk from Beesd to Leerdam.
Beautiful fort in a beautiful setting on the linge ... beautiful route ... museum of modern art
Beautiful rugged fortress with art exhibition and cozy tavern
2 sandwiches with cheese ordered.
After 15 minutes asked: they were not listed but they started to work with it. Nothing after 15 minutes. How hard is it?
Very interesting. Just a pity that there was no one in sight. Would have liked it on the inside. The tavern was open, but no one was to be seen here ...
Beautiful location. Incredibly tasty food and great service by very friendly people. Enjoyed!
Simple but very friendly and welcoming tavern at the fort. For lunch only 2 Ham or Cheese sandwiches but taste delicious! So recommended. Nice stop during cycling.
Located behind the dike, perfect for a canoe trip. Delicious coffee (plus) drunk in the tavern
Nice place in the Dutch water line. Fort is accessible and you can enjoy something to eat and drink.
Nice piece of 2nd world war history. Take a guided tour if you can, otherwise you won't know what you're looking at.
nice place, beautifully situated and with a simple restaurant for lunch and the like.
A very nice walk, but on a nice day like last Sunday there is really not enough staff. The choice is limited but the quality is good
As you walk through the building, you walk through a history of water defense. On the bottom floor there was nothing to see ... At the same time you can view an exhibition. Then have a drink on the terrace or inside the restaurant. Recommended for a day of nature, culture and national history!
Delicious bread with delicious farmer's cheese, we had to wait, but then it was also delicious.
Seems worth it once the season has started. When we were there it was not. Will definitely come back because they say they have the tastiest apple pie from the meadow environment ......
