Went for a ski day trip. Staff is super friendly and the resort is awesome--not too crowded and the runs are plentiful.

Units are pretty much count by individual owners. if you need anything you have to run across the way to the real estate office. Beautiful accommodations, cozy. Extremely limited parking. Hiking starts right at your door
Great mountain for skiing or boarding. Kind of isolated, but it's pretty easy to find places to stay at the resort
Best slopes when there is powder. They are great always but when this place has fresh snow no where in norcal beats it. There is a few little restaurants up there but with they would upgrade the hanging out in the lodge area. My wife was stuck in there all day with a little one and there wasn't many places to just sit and enjoy like some other resorts
First time snowboarding in 8 years and the snow was great, especially with the lack of rain. If you're coming from the bay area, this place is WAY better than dodge ridge, especially if you have a couple days to really explore the terrain.
Near South Lake Tahoe, it's not very big but it has very interesting places! Recommended to be two or three days.
The best terrain in tahoe. Period. And the best powder to be found. No Sierra cement here.
Great place to stay Sarah and Lisa were very helpful
Management needs to do a better job of traffic management and lift ticket sales.
I showed up opening day, was sent away. The runs are pretty fun, but last time i went, didnt even get to hit a run.
CONS: Lack of advertised day care facilities. Parking on street and walking after that takes too long.
PROS: Otherwise lift lines were shorter that expected. Staff was nice and charged postively.
My favorite of the 3 Vail/epic resorts in the Tahoe area. Generally better snow, less crowds and more challenging terrain than Heavenly and better in every metric vs Northstar except fancy stores/nightlife/restaurants/lodging. Kirkwood is the skier's mountain
Only 30-40 minutes from south lake Tahoe but usually receives a good deal more snow and earlier. One of my favorite snowboarding destinations in the area and also where I proposed to my wife. Lots of great runs and in my opinion the best beginner run ever. The snowkirk is very long for a beginner run giving someone plenty of time to practice and is gentle enough that quick turns are rarely demanded which is great if you are uncomfortable with switching edges on a snowboard. Not where I learned to snowboard but definitely where I first started to become comfortable on one.
Favorite resort in the Tahoe area. They have the best and most challenging terrain along with getting the most snowfall.
Crowded on weekends. The 16-dollar hot dog was actually worth it. Amazing terrain parks!
Solid mountain for skiers (I don't board though it definitely supports boarding also) a little out of the way but lines are super short vs the more famous/touristy places. If you want to get maximum runs this is your mountain.
An amazing ski resort - great terrain, steep and long as well as a lot of off piste!
Went when it snowed heavily. Would not recommend, would recommend the day after a snowfall
Their general store had what I needed, it just cost three times more than it should have.
Snow is usually good. while Northstar and heavenly only have a few green and yellow trails opened, this place already have all difficulty levels opened.
Lifts are generally older though and on the long ones the wait seems to be eternity. There is literally nothing else to do at this resort due to its remote location. I have never stayed there over night myself.
For day trips, this resort is a bit closer from the bay areas. Although most if 88 is single lane. So it's really annoying to get stuck behind some super slow driver who think they they own the roads. Many times heavy snow will force road closure as well. So make sure to plan ahead and avoid getting stuck there.
With every trip, I slowly accumulate more brain damage from minor snowboarding accidents. God willing, I'll be dead within the decade.
You can go to this Resort year round. During the winter you can go snowboarding, skiing, ice fishing, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing . During the summer they have mountain biking, disc golf, and many different activities. It's my favorite place in the world
An easy drive from the Bay Area, esp. when there's no snow on the ground. Fun mountain to ski too.
So there isn't anything a resort can do about snow, knowing this, Kirkwood has done a good job keeping lifts and runs open. Weekday riding means no lines and clear wide open trails. A smaller resort but plenty of terrain to ride. About 45 minutes off the lake with limited parking so get there early on the weekends.
Parking situation is a little out of control. Please add more spots or an off-site parking location next year.
Great place to stay, ski, shop, and get a bite to eat.
One of my favorite resort but this past trip, caught an edge and suffered a concussion trying to avoid hitting newbies sitting in the middle of run. Guess that could happen anywhere... Still 4 stars though, for the ski patrol who took care of me. Overall a chill vibe
EPIC STAFF!!! Awesome culdesac! Park City 50 years ago... but with technology and women and civility.
Nice smaller resort with a great selection of terrain from beginner to insane cliff dropping. A lot of lifts are old and slow so you have to make your plan accordingly if you want to get a lot of runs in. There wasn't a lot of snow when we were here, but they seemed to maintain the slopes as well as could be. The parkings lots were not snow-covered which meant walking through mud with your ski boots and a big mess to clean up later.
We had a nice summer stay for one night. It is quiet and beautiful outside. It is almost deathly still at night and the lack of proper lighting for the road gave the atmosphere a very creepy vibe. However, the inside was cozy and the room was nice. I can only imagine it is incredibly beautiful in Winter and I'm sure a magnitude busier. For summer, it's okay, but this resort most likely shines brightest in Winter and the decor reflects this.
I like Kirkwood because it's one of the higher resorts around Tahoe so when these warm storms come through Kirkwood is more likely getting snow vs. other resorts that are getting rained on. And if you're into hiking Kirkwood has some excellent side country terrain. Of course the weekends are often not even worth it because all the parking is gone by 10 and the lifts are so busy you often wait a half hour to get on. And I wish they had a decent halfpipe.
Loving it today and loving my husband. Total love and beauty. Kirkwood somehow makes me feel so balanced
Great resort to go to ski from the Bay Area. The amenities and snow are above par. The only complaint is that at times, when there is terrible weather, since its in the middle of a pass, you can get stuck here. Otherwise, its a great place to ski and typically a place with tons of snow.
Best mountain on the Epic pass. Definitely not for beginners, the runs are mostly blacks and blues. But much less crowded than Heavenly. Only drawback is the beautiful mountain pass location, which can get snowed it making it less accessible without the proper vehicle.
I visit in the summer all the time, and the surrounding trails and mountains are amazing!
Great place and great snow! Wish they would upgrade chair 4 to a high-speed quad though. . .
Great amenities, good customer service, clean nicely decorated rooms, big bathrooms. Beware of the carpet floors and dry air-- we were all zapping each other for the first couple days!
Long drive from Carson City but good afternoon snow conditions. Website says 100 percent open. No lift lines midweek.
Nice resort. Much less crowded than heavenly and North Star. Parking lot is also super close to lifts. People were super friendly. Has a lot of more challenging terrain.
No pretentious village, just a serious mountain for those serious about boarding and skiing. Love it here!
Took a slide down on my face. 11/10 going again this season!
We love Kirkwood. This is our first time there in the summer. It was a fabulous place to take our nieces, we hiked and explored the meadow.
Solid resort. Good terrain, good prices, no frills. Best in the area, and often the best snow.
Good mtn with different terrian and skill levels favorite is the wall on powder days
Kirkwood is one of my favorite resorts in the Tahoe area. It's big, has some really good challenging (and easy) slopes, and you can get away from the crowd.
Great place to go skiing. Not generally very crowded and has plenty of lifts. Lifts are a little on the slow side though
Kirkwood has great terrain features and is a ton of fun, when there is a lot of snow
Great place to visit and ski
Close to South lake tahoe
I love Kirkwood it's a bit harder to get to then other resorts from Sac but it's worth the journey. Alot of runs are more advanced so it's a great resort for a more experienced ski/ boarder
If there's fresh snow, the back side of the mountain is where all the action is at. Food at the court was good, but the fries were a little floppy (not crispy).
The snow is amazing and great coverage! Especially so early in December!
Mountain is great. The hotel not so much. Wall bed. Dirty and noisy. Says something when hotel provides earplugs to their guests. Reception staff is friendly but needs training.
My favorite ski destination in Tahoe with tons of expert terrain and glades.
Kirk The Wood, get blasted and slash. 7800' Base. Best Tahoe Resort for the pow runs. Wish the Carson Spur was open, but that's just the way she goes on snow days.
