Great mountain with lots of interesting advanced and expert trails. The snow was powdery and deep, and there was not very much wait time for most of the lifts on a weekend. The food here is overpriced though and they don't have as many lodges for food as some of the other resorts I've been to. The line for food was actually longer than the lift lines, surprisingly.

Marketing went up the mountain 30 minutes ago. 5 stars for ski patrol getting the mountain open after a big dump. But mountain management keeps us off so they can take nice pics of the mountain without people. All hype. This is normal.

One of the most isolated and remote Sierra Nevada ski resorts, Kirkwood is an epic destination and does not disappoint. Limited lodging in the area, but tickets are cheaper and lift lines shorter here.

Amazing backcountry/out of bounds runs here easily accessible by a short hike. The best powder days of my life were at Kirkwood. If you live in Northern Nevada or Californi , love skiing, and you've never been to Kirkwood before, make this your next destination.

If you're a beginner theres not as many runs available, so you're better off at Northstar, or Squaw Valley-Alpine Meadows.

As far a Tahoe-region resorts go, this is the one for experienced skiers. Despite the fact you can see nearly all of the terrain from one spot, the mountain is deceptively big once you're on it. Lots of variation in terrain, definitely something for every style.

By far my favorite mountain in the Tahoe area! A lot less crowded than Heavenly but a little harder to get to than most of the other mountains, if the weather gets bad the roads get closed sometimes so I'd always check the Cal trans website to see that the 88 or 89 are open if the weather has been bad.
It has lots of good expert terrain as well as some easier stuff too for beginners. The first day lodge you'll pass is Timber Creek and this is where you'll want to go if your a beginner and where the beginner lessons take place as well. If you keep driving you'll get to the main village area where there are plenty of blue and black runs with one lift servicing a green run if you need to warm up before hitting some blues. Plus you can get to the backside for some more great runs. There is plenty of free parking that's either a short walk or shuttle ride away so don't think you need to pay for the close parking unless you want to.

Kirkwood is a great resort, with excellent advanced and expert ski slopes. Three are lots of cornices, gulleys, and mogul runs. In recent years, they have expanded their summer offerings with mountain biking, hiking, and a small rock climbing wall. Restaurant and lodging selection is limited, and the highway to get the is smaller and windier than for Tahoe resorts.
