My son and I went to Kings Dominion yesterday and had a blast. I was a bit apprehensive due to some of the negative reviews but found all the reasons to be unwarranted. The rides were super fun, we especially loved the flight of fear 40% of the fun was the crew. I don t know the commanders name but the young man who lead his team at around 4pm was wonderful. He made the ride so much more due to the way he teased all the riders. The most thrilling for us was definitely the Intimidator- it was everything. The staff was super friendly, lots of young adults only 2 or 3 out of all of them had an attitude. I saw more attitude and annoying behavior from the visitors than the workers. I saw this from ALL different types for guests. We also enjoyed the Origins show I won t give details- just go see it. :-) Food is expensive but it s nothing that will frustrate you- all amusement parks are expensive. Tips- take some bottle water and little snacks. Look on Groupon for deals. Bring sunscreen and hat. Prepare to put your stuff in lockers- 4 bucks isn t going to hurt we used it twice. For the price and the fun our trip was worth it. Go and enjoy yourself!

Best amusement park around. Only place where you can enjoy roller coasters , kids area and water park all in one park. Halloween haunt , Winterfest and the New Years event were all amazing. Tho after eating at BG its clear KD has to step up the quality of their food because BG blew them away. They also need to add the frozen drinks to the all you can drink plans as BG and WC do this.

Dated, dirty, poor maintenance, rides need painting and PM. Employees are rude. Having worked there myself as a high school student it's obvious things are not what they used to be.

Parking:

Starting your day with parking will be anything but pleasant, especially if you have a season pass and want to park in the "special lot" for pass holders. Parking attendants will gladly take your money or scan your season pass, but that's where your interaction with them will end. No "hello" or directions where to go will be offered.

If you use the phone app for your season pass, best of luck using it for the "special lot" for season pass holders because the gate opener won't scan your phone, only the paper pass will scan at the gate, but that's assuming you know where the "special lot" is to start with.

If you are unfortunate enough to find and get into the "special lot" good luck navigating through the unmarked lanes. As a special treat, if you go down some isles in the "special lot" you will have to backup the entire way you came into the isle to get out. Try doing this with multiple other vehicles as equally lost as you trying to find a parking place down a lane no bigger than a single car.

Once you have parked you then need to find your way to the main entrance. No signs will assist you with that. Best suggestion would be to follow someone who knows where to go.

It will become obvious throughout your stay that directions and more importantly signs will be few and far between to lead your family around the park. As a matter of fact it will most likely end up being the most annoying part of your visit.

Food:
While allowing national food chains such as Boardwalk and Chick-fil-A into the park sounds like a good idea, in reality it is awful if you don't have the staff or facilities to pull it off efficiently. Almost two hours in line for fast food is ridiculous.

If you think eating at one of the regular park venues is any better you would be wrong. Our meal experiences throughout the day were horrible. The burger place in safari village was dirty, out of every carbonated beverage, had no "toppings" at the toppings bar nor any ketchup or mustard.

Rides:
The biggest and most serious issue with any of the coasters I rode was what is known as "slamming". This happens when a train abruptly stops in the e-brake section of the brakes when a train arrives in the station. Slamming was a major no-no when I was working there in the 90's. This was prohibited because of several reasons, first of all for the safety for guests to help prevent neck and back injury. Second to speed up dispatch to maximize capacity to reduce wait times for guests.

My experience on every coaster was identical, slamming in the e-brakes and waiting in the trim brakes, as long as five minutes before dispatch of the train in the station in front of us. This "policy" seems dangerous and counterproductive to efficiently moving guests, however maybe there is some good reason for them doing this.

I have had many great experiences at KD and I hope to have many more but over the years things have unfortunately made a turn for the worst. I am hopeful someone with the ability to effect change in KD will read this and take to heart my genuine experience/criticism of a Virginia institution that will hopefully be around for years to come.

I will update this review with more information when time allows.

Large selection of thrill rides and stuff for the kids. The food prices were very high for what you get. I got a dried out Burger Patty with a cold slice of cheese tossed on it for 14 bucks. Looked like it had been sitting around all day. Other than that everything was clean and lines were very short the day we were there. Had a great time!

I worked at KD from 92-94. Then it was owned by KECO and Paramount. Different owners make a big difference. It's not as clean as it use to be and you can definitely see the signs of wear and tear that were well hidden before. They don't have enough employees to keep all the rides open every day. A lot of the restaurants are in desperate need of updates and ac repair. And just like every other theme park it is grossly overpriced. I'm sure a family of 4 could easily With that said there are still

Recently I took my gran'daughter & 3 friends for the day to King's Dominion. They had a wonderful time & so did I, because: one young "grounds keeper" came over to me & asked if I needed directions when he saw me fiddling with the map (despite my embarassed look, he helped). Two ambassadors came over to ask if another visitor & I had a good day. I saw staff walking areas with several other staff checking on the park. I'm old, and don't risk fractured bones anymore, but it was good to see good, caring employees. My last visit was about 32 years ago. Keep up the good work!

Kid park rides are too short the employees look mad in the kid park. Safety check on most rides are good. I wish the park food was cheaper because the food is cheaply made. The bathroom's in the water park for the women were nasty. My kids and wife saw blood on the toilet seats used bloody tampons. Mens bathroom in water park was dirty.

I haven't been there since I was about 14 15 years old I had a great time in the event that my niece got us tickets to the park was closed wasn't crowded oh my God if you find somebody selling event tickets like that you need to get them you would enjoy yourself

The Haunt offered skeleton key rooms this year that were boring and a complete waste of time. One room offered buckets of slime to stick your hand in to find a key.....then what? The next had a sixty year old man in a diaper with a ziplock bag that he called vomit and he wanted us to smell it...then what? Maybe these rooms would appeal to small children, but the Haunt is not geared toward small children.

Fright lane is an additional $50 but we stood in line without moving for excessive amounts of time. Some of the people running the lines were apologetic to the folks in the regular line and it seems as though they let fewer Fright Lane people in to appease that group. What did I pay for?

Overall, the park is great. I do the Haunt every year, but I am not sure I will go again.

OK, so been going here since 1976. Nice park with great rides. Certain cleaned up over last 10 years. My issue is the Halloween Haunt. Used to be an absolutely awesome experience. At this point, the haunted "houses" (or mazes) are SERIOUSLY lacking employees... They used to be filled with so many that EVERYONE was spooked from most directions around each turn. You're lucky if there are 4 people working inside of them now. Not over exaggerating. The number of dressed up "spooky clowns, ghouls, skidders, zombies" walking the park during "haunt" hours is about 1/3 of what it was 3 years ago. Almost not worth calling it Fear Fest or Halloween Haunt. Just call if Fall Festival since they do decorate but the fun scary houses are desperately lacking compared to what they used to do. Second rate comoared to what a major theme park should be able to muster up after years of the experience. They used to provide a great SPOOKY Halloween experience.

Ok amusement park for people who like thrill rides...very big kids area, and they also have a water park. Unfortunately my experience at this park on one of the hottest days was not the best. A/C seem not to be working in the restaurants, and when people wanted water they gave them shot cups of water and then proceeded to upsale the souvenir cup. Lets not to mentioned most of the rides was down for most of the day. Would give them 4 or 5 stars because I usually have a good time and I like this park but on that day customer service and ops could have been better.

Horrible service at the park. Staff allowed their employees to lie to customers and did not make me feel welcomed at all. Wasted my time that I had there and They were very rude and made our experience a horrible one.

Everyone had a great time! We went on Friday and traffic was great going & coming.

We also arrived ten minutes after it opened up, so most lines were short. Until around 3 o'clock, it felt like a privately rented amusement park.

We were very happy!

Staff here is always terrible. Park matienence continues to go downhill. Almost fell from wheelchair at multiple times due to inability to see holes/massive cracks in pavement throughout the park. Halloween mazes are redundant and do not seem to change from year to year.

Great coaster lineup with Intimidator 305 being a great extreme thrill coaster with intense g-forces, low to the ground snappy twists and turns and a staggering first drop of 305 feet, Twisted Timbers being an wonderful RMC with plenty of airtime and inversions, and Dominator being a nice, smooth B&M floorless coaster. As a roller coaster enthusiast, I can definitely rate this as one of the best parks in the USA. The food is pretty good and there are a lot of options including Asian, Mexican, Barbeque, an old-style American diner, and plenty of treats like ice cream, popcorn and any other theme park food you can think of. Definitely a great experience.

King's Dominion is sooo awesome at ni ht. I took my daughter, son, 2 yr. old granddaughter and a cousin tonight for the "Haunt". It was clearly one of the funnest short trips we've taken in years.

Love it

Very nice place for kids, Planet Snoopy is awesome, the only thing I would suggest is having a talk with the staff running the rides we encountered several that would not greet the children and rolled their eyes if the children would ask for help. But a few people don't ruin the beauty and magic of this place!

Lots of fun during the regular season and lines aren't nearly what you'd expect at the bigger theme parks. Planet Snoopy is great for the youngest kids....my daughter was even able to go on a few rides at 1 year old. Avoid Labor Day weekend because of the crowds. Sign up online for the free Preschool pass for kids age 5 and under.
Winterfest--the lights are beautiful and the shows are fun but do not go with the expectation of doing any rides. Only some rides are open and the lines are outrageous! Ice skating line was the longest I'd ever seen. I'd still say it's worth going for lights and shows, just manage your expectations (and the kids').
