Well worth the wait for delicious classic delicatessen food. Luckily we got there ahead of the crowd and only had a fifteen minute wait. We loved the lox platter, the Reuben sandwiches, and a classic chocolate egg cream.

This is pure New York and a place that everybody should go. I had a breakfast of pastrami sandwiches and matzo balls and chicken soup. But the best part is I got to sit where Harry and Sally set and you should too

Very busy delicatessen, with good sandwiches. I recommend the pastrami. Full sandwiches are very filling. You can have table service or order on your own and grab a table. It's very popular, so the self service option can be a little much

Worst place in NYC. If you like no customer service go to Katz. Went to order a couple of sandwiches with my wife and there is no clear line or anyone willing to take your order. They shuffle you in like cattle and treat you like animals. By the time we to place our order I said let s just leave. As we tried to exit an employee barks out, Gimmie it . I said I didn t have anything and I concluded that he meant the paper number they give you when you first enter. I handed it to him and he gave out a huff and said nothing else as my wife I exited. DO NOT GIVE THIS PLACE A MOMENT OF YOUR TIME OR MONEY!

Shockingly bad service in a New York gem that has become a tourist trap.

We were lead to our shared table by some unreluctant girls slouched at the greeters desk. After a hard days work we thought the fast pace of a NY deli would satisfy our 4pm late lunch cravings but the waitress took at least 20min at which point she talked back when we asked for service.

After handing us some pickles with an upturned wrist and rolled eyes she curtly took our orders. I m not sure the fantastic $24 pastrami sandwich can justify being treated so badly. Get take out if you must.

Best sandwhich shop in the world. We waited in like for about 30 minutes which was worth it in the end. The inside was buzzing like a bee hive. Shoulder to shoulder people waiting to place there order. There are 7 different "cutting areas" where they take your order and make sandwhich. Service was very friendly. Sandwiches are pricey but it's enough good for 2 meals.

We tried the reuben with pastrami and I got the original pastrami sandwich. The meat was nice and seasoned with crispy outsides. Its NOTHING like the typical deli pastrami from grocery stores. This is a once in a lifetime sandwhich shop to try in NY. The dishes all come with pickles which had 2 different brines. Overall great experience.

Try the Pastrami and you won't be disappointed!
Cheers!!

Probably the best Reuben and pastrami sandwiches you will ever eat in your life. Go early unless you want to stand in line for hours, pick up a payment stub, stand in one at the one of the sandwich makers aka Cutters, order your sandwich of choice - remember to pay them a healthy tip - and find yourself a table. It's a unique and heavenly one of a kind experience. One of the highlights of any NY trip. The food is heavy and sits in your tummy for a couple hours though. Thankfully they've good coffee to avoid a post meal coma.

It's Katz's, so what is there to say? Only that they seem to be keeping their standards up. As someone who visits only once every few years, I think that the old place is still quite good.

Pastrami pastrami pastrami!! I have been coming to this place since my father used to take me as a young child and while the prices have increased over the years, the quality and quantity has not! If you're a big eater one pastrami on rye is a must with mustard on it as well. If not, it's still a perfect size to share with a friend. One of my favorite parts is the small plate that is handed to you with a sampling of your pastrami while you are watching the workers prepare your sandwich. If you are visiting NYC for the first time or anytime for that maygert, this needs to be on your list!

The food and by that I mean the iconic pastrami on rye was the clear standout here. It's 17 bucks, but huge portion of meat, and pretty worth the money. The interior is not refined, nor should it be, and there are a few adornments on the walls (teeshirts to purchase, large menus behind the counter, hanging sign as an homage to the famous "When Harry met Sally" scene. Only one warning .... they are CASH ONLY, and they could probably use more signage to make that clear to customers.

There is something about Katz that makes you want to like Katz even if it is inconvenient, (lines, tickets, etc). Its authentic and wonderful. Yet some things like the flimsy seder plate, which I needed and was thankful for, need an upgrade. But would an upgrade make it too fabulous and not as perfect as it is. Ok, kinda perfect.

4.5 stars. Fantastic Pastrami Sandwich - very hearty and great value - huge amount of food. The sandwich is very flavorful. -0.5 star for the bread which was "ok". Love the ambience - a signature spot in Manhattan that's worth a visit, especially for meat-lovers.

Of you haven't been, you gotta go. Even though this place is CONSTANTLY busy, you really won't spend more than 10-12 minutes to get your food. The pastrami on rye is my favorite. There is a plethora of Jewish delimainstays that are all solid. Pay when you finish. Cash in front credit/debit in back. DO NOT LOSE YOUR TICKET!!!

Attractive to both tourists, locals (including Fat Joe one night we were there!) the pastrami is no joke. Amazing and worth $20 hands down. Ruben was all right! Potato knish was spot on. Highly recommended to everyone for a late night snack. Meal was worth it. They take credit cards now.
DO NOT LOSE YOUR TICKET when you walk in!
I don t even like pastrami, but LOVE this sandwich!! Go to town!
Many different stations where the cutters will hook you up with samples and the deliciousness of the ambiance!

Truly delicious!!! Their classic pastrami sandwich is amazing. You don t even need teeth to cut through the meat. Totally worth it. The sandwich was so big that it s enough to feed myself and my wife. Love the complementary pickles as well.

This place is pretty touristy but I like the pastrami. It has an interesting set up where you order at the counter and pay when you leave the restaurant. I usually just get the pastrami and it's large enough for 2 people to eat. It's expensive ($30) but the pastrami is high quality. They also other meats like tongue if you're feeling adventurous.

The portions are huge! As hungry as I was when I came in, I couldn t even finish then pastrami sandwich. This place is no frills but there are a lot of things to choose from to satisfy your craving.

They have a certain system in place for ordering. You pay as you are exiting the restaurant.

Love their pastrami and brisket. A 3 meat platter with those 2 (not a fan of corned beef) some rye bread, and their mustard is comfort food for me.

Prices has gone up but so has everything else. Some people get sticker shock going in there and seeing the prices. Want a cheaper alternative? Heat up some boars head from the supermarket, just won't taste the same. You also don't get the chance to talk with the cutters.

Not what I expected, but I wouldn't call it overrated. I ordered a Turkey Reuben and expected a hot sandwich. That said, make sure to order a "hot" sandwich when you place your order just in case. The Matzo ball soup is very good. Pricing is extremely expensive, and service is decent. I'd recommend if you have a lot of money and a hankering for some good food.

Food was great but the server was not. I know they are trying to shuffle people in and out as quickly as possible but they don't have to treat their customers like cattle. My waitress just seemed like she was mad that she had to serve us. This would be 5 stars if my waitress was mildly friendly.

Maybe a place to try, but not to return to. Lots of meat, as everyone knows, but the appeal seems to end there. I had a reuben... good sandwich, but I've definitely had better, many times, and for far le$$!
I would not go again!

There was a long queue when we got there, may be because it s a Saturday. If you do not want waiter service, the queue goes quite fast. You were given a ticket and you go up to the counter to place your order and the server will mark the price in your ticket and you pay in you way out. If you want a hot dog you need to go to the grill counter, if you want a sandwich you need to go to the meats counter and you go to drinks counter to get your drinks. You will need to grab any seats available except the ones marked waiter service. Of course most people go there because of the move when Harry Met Sally, but they do a very decent Reuben, not sure about the hot dog, I think they should give a longer size dogs. But worth a visit and the price is reasonable.

I could not give zero stars for this place. Rude service. Cashier could not explain how two sandwiches and two beers came out to $83.47. Let me type that one more time. Two sandwiches and two beers $83.
Dry meat and dry pastrami.
Will never come back. First time here and last time here.
FYI we spent $300 At the bar at th World Trade Center. I ll spend $600 more over there to spend 20 in your place

If you like pastrami sandwiches, then this is THE place to have one. I will say it again, Katz's Deli has the best pastrami sandwich you will ever eat. Make sure to tip your cutter in advance and enjoy the generous portion of admittedly expensive pastrami.

That line! But don't worry, it moves fast!

Once in, you are given the option to order at the counter and try your luck at finding a table to sit down. If you don't want to do that, give your name, step to the side and wait for table service.

For our party of two, we shared a pastrami sandwich, matzo ball soup and ginormous fries. Fries were crispy on the outside and tender inside. Matzo ball soup was the best I've had. Broth was rich but light and the matzo was pillowy and a perfect texture. Pastrami had such a freaking good flavor that the bread wasn't even needed. So good!

Once seated for table service, they set you up with pickles, as you wait for the food.

One thing, don't ask for mayo on your sandwich! The table next to us asked for it was was quickly shut down.

Just went for the first time, and it was well worth the wait. Brisket was awesome, also tried the pastrami which was out of this world. Hot dog was very good and the kinish was great! I'll be back

This ain't your average Deli! But neither are the prices. I've always believed that you get what you pay for. You're going to spend a lot of money here... But for your money, you will get the greatest sandwich you've ever had. There's just no question, Katz's has the best corned beef and pastrami on the planet.

No Katz for me today

No Katz for me today
All the workers behind the counter on their phones. WHAT. This was the Bklyn location
Very disappointed.

Wow! Can't say enough about how fabulous the food is. We got there at around 9:30am so there was no wait. Ordered the 1/2 corned beef sandwich with a bowl of matzo ball soup and my husband got a steak and cheese sandwich. First off I did the right thing by ordering a 1/2 sandwich. It was piled high and the corned beef was superb- great flavor with hardly any fat but extremely tender. The matzo was super soft and the chicken soup was just right for your soul. The philly cheesesteak sandwich was better than the ones you get in Philly. This is a must stop when you are in NYC!

We went there just because we were in NYC. The Corned Beef sandwiches were big but not very impressive in flavour or tenderness, given how people carry on about them. The bread was just regular bread too. The service is abrupt to the point of being rude. They push you through without asking you if you want any extras (cheese, mustard etc).
They give you a ticket when you enter. DO NOT lose your ticket. We didn't, but another patron said they charge you $50 if you do.
It cost us $44 USD for two very average sandwiches and a seat at a packed deli booth opposite strangers.
I love NYC and its ways, but I didn't enjoy this place.
I would avoid it unless you just want to go for the sake of being able to say you've been.

Now this is New York! Huge thick sandwiches, fresh hot meat cut infront of you, delicious matzo ball soup. Husband had the half brisket sandwich and split pea soup and I had the half turkey sandwich with matzo ball soup. They give you pickles with it. The sandwiches are so big you can either bring it home afterwards for another meal or going to Katz's an appetite and finish the whole or half sandwich. When you walk in the give you a blue ticket, next you go up to the counter order your sandwich, it's made fresh then head to a table to eat. Once you're done eating you take your blue tickets to the counter on the left near the desserts and where you pay with credit card if not you pay cash bear the door. Side note don't lose the blue tickets or you'll be fined! Great meal and atmosphere, I highly encourage you to stop!
