!!Cash only!!!. If you are in line outside it moves fast. Now you can either order and sit yourself or have them sit you. If you have them sit you it will take longer. You can sit yourself by the counter and it's a see it take it. You get a ticket go to a counter. If you speak the meat cutters do too. Order then get it served and enjoy!

Simply the best pastrami sandwich in the world, 131 years still standing that says it all.
The juiciness of the sandwiches the flavors it s unreal I recommend anyone visiting NYC must go to Katz Deli besides the food seeing all those pics so many famous people that been there, the nostalgia of the old days and again the food is just the best.

Excellent. However, perhaps slightly overrated. Pro tip: each prep guy at the counter has their own individual line. Don't let the air-headedness of tourists deter your from choosing the shortest one.

Definitely the best meal I had in New York. It was better than advertised. I had the pastrami sandwich and while it was pricey it was very succulent, juicy, and soft. I could have eaten it with no teeth and just my gums.

Another iconic place of NYC and definitely a must stop for anyone who wants to have a real taste of New York. They corned beef and pastrami are simply the best. No need to make a hard decision as they provide half and half option for their sandwich. Also the sandwich cost is around $20 but it would probably the biggest sandwich you would ever have and can be easily shared for two people. Besides tasty sandwiches this place has this ambiance as its still stuck in 1940's, make sure not to loose ticket which you'll be given at entrance, you will be asked to return it on the way out, this is how the keep their logistics.

My cousin who is a chef in Canada came down to visit and we went to Katz, with his first bite he could tell and appreciate the care that went into the meat.
I ve only had their pastrami sandwiches but it s always well worth the trip

The best Kosher style Deli in New York. Pastrami is the best on earth. Also have the best brisket and excellent corned beef. Great steak fries. Matzoh ball soup is not that good. Pass bbn on their soups. Good chopped liver, great half sour pickels. This place has history.

I really enjoyed cats always have just left there half an hour ago. I was ordering a turkey sandwich with Swiss and was wondering why the sweeper was sleeping so close to me. Only to find out when I got to the register that I had lost $20 and I would say is that it wasn't his fault but, I went to the ATM inside the store inside cats so the only place I can lose the $20 was in cats because I'm paying to leave I'm $20 short. This was the first time this has ever happened normally the workers would say Mrs you dropped your money. I don't know it was kind of a sour note for me but overall loved the food

The prices were a little high. I received poor service at the beverage section. The corned beef was good. I was disappointed that Katz's Delicatessen in not Kosher anymore. At one point in time, many years ago I had remembered the restaurant serving Kosher. Not "Kosher Style' food!

This is still the greatest place in the world for Jewish deli. But stick to the main things on the menu. Pastrami melts in your mouth like butter. I decided to change things up and ordered tongue. It was presliced. Some of the slices were dried up. They looked old. Stick to regular stuff and you won't be sorry.

The pastrami sandwich is good but not worth $22.45. That's an 18 dollar sandwich at most. $5 dollar hot dogs?!. It should be 2 for 5. Not $5 a piece. you can easily spend $100 on two sandwiches and two hot dogs with some sodas.

Well... In NYC for the 2019 NY Auto show and I have to share that this had to be one of the best hot pastrami sandwiches I've ever had and I've had my share of pastrami! Katz serves healthy portions, there's great people watching and you'll want to come back for more.

Absolutely unique place in NYC. Can't miss it when visiting the city. Price tag of the sandwiches feels quite hefty, but once you see what you'll get you'll realise it's all worth it! Pictures speak for themselves.

Still the best pastrami in NYC. Better than Second Avenue Deli better than Sarge's. 16 or so bucks is a bit pricey for a sandwich but it's piled high with meat and feeds one person at least. Corned beef here was good, but not as good as the pastrami. This place is old school with sawdust on the floor in the bathrooms so don't expect a fine dining experience. One side of dining area is self serve, the other is full service, so know which you want. There's apparently a place in Brooklyn that supplies the meat to Katz - which apparently u can smoke it yourself and have it taste pretty similar if u have the time.

We were looking for a deli in the area and accidentally stumbled upon this world famous deli in the Bowery. We had the signature Pastrami sandwich and it entirely lived up to the hype. Highly recommend this deli when in the area, you will have a great experience!

Here's the thing, this place is delicious and it's a total NY Deli experience but I personally prefer Sarge's. I feel like Katz's charges about the same amount but you don't get that giant sandwich that you used to at the Carnegie or currently at Sarge's. Make it bigger or charge less. Other than that, I have no complaints but I probably won't eat here unless someone I'm eating with insists because I think that Sarge's is great and a better value.

Still the most iconic place in town for pastrami and corned beef. Still served the same way, with a sample of the beef while they make your sandwich. The same decor, the same neon that evidently seems older than me, the same scents, atmosphere and the same ticket (that if you lose it, you pay a penalty). It is still a terrific place to come, if for no other reason, to soak up the atmosphere.

What is missing here? The quality that you once got. Things just don't taste like they once used to. It feels like they've cheap'ed out on some things that made this place what it once was . . . what made it supremely quality product we all once craved.

The corned beef and pastrami on this trip (and granted I have not been back here in a while) . . . just didn't seem to have the savory quality it once had. I am not sure if the beef itself is a different quality, or maybe the seasonings or what (mind you the taste difference was noticed on BOTH the corned beef AND pastrami, so I am not certain it was the seasoning). Also, the french fries seemed more processed . . . not as fresh as I can recall (more out of a bag, rather then freshly cut (I could have sworn they had "crinkle cut" before, and now not the case). Don't get me wrong, I will be back, and will give them another shot because . . . well because they are legendary (and NO, there is NO family relation that I am aware of).

What was good? The pickles, the chicken matzoh ball soup was very good. The Dr. Brown's of course was very good. But again, there's something that has changed with the beef or the preparing of the beef.

Last time I was here was maybe 5 or 6 years ago, and it was still extremely high quality then. Best in the business! And they are still wonderful, but NOT what it once was . . . and not terribly long ago either.

I had no idea this was where Harry met Sally. This place is packed. The lines were crazy. He food was on the spot. We got the corned beef and Reuben. My friend recommended the pastrami too. Don't forget the root beer, and definitely don't forget the ticket.

Katz's Pastrami Hot Sandwich

Katz's Pastrami Hot Sandwich
Smoked to juicy perfection and hand carved to your specifications. Ask for mayo at your own peril.

It's a New York tradition. Food is very good and the experience is very unique
However, it is also a bit chaotic and confusing to first time visitors. I definitely recommend checking it out. Oh and the sandwiches are very large.

A must eat for any person visiting NYC for the first time. I got the Reuben with pastrami and my wife got the brisket. Both were excellent. But at $20+ for a sandwich, the food better be good. The ordering system is a little confusing at first, but makes sense once you figure it out. So don t be afraid to ask the doorman to explain it as soon as you get your ticket.

Great place! Service is quick. You might have to wait in line however. The atmosphere is full of energy with all the hustle and bustle. What makes this place famous are the sandwiches loaded with all the good meat. The pastrami sandwich was WoW good: bursting with flavor. If your in town check this place out it s the real deal.

Ordered the take out in this snow day, craving for the taste. But The cutter #6 gave the worst part of the corned beef so did the pastrami sandwich. The corned beef is chewable like a leather with all the fat Part still attached. The pastrami almost all in black. I don t like how he treat customers differently. I can see the big difference between my order and the others. I was so nice to tip him well but received uneven treatment. Disappointed!

Katz's is a New York City institution, but by no means the best. Come once to say you did it - and then if you like it, you can head back! If you really like their delicious meats, you might want to consider shipping some meats back home (only inside the United States, unfortunately), so it doesn't take up any space in your luggage. If you are just going to one time, I recommend getting the table service - you'll get a taste of New York and the attitude too!

Loved it completely. Ordering is an experience of its own. I got the Frankfurter on bun for an appetizer and it was scrumptious - the kraut was phenomenal and the dog had a snap as good as any I have ever had.

For the main, I ordered the Pastrami Reuben, with pickles, and steak fries. I ordered an ice cold Dr Browns root beer to wash it down.

The sandwich was enormously delectable. The pastrami was just perfectly tender with an amazing crust. The steak fries were of good quality, and well above average portion size. I enjoyed the two types of pickles, but I must admit that I wishe they had a stronger vinegar taste. Finally, Doc Browns root beer was very good quality rb.

Its easy to see why Katz's is legendary from the food to the atmosphere and the decor. Take it in slowly. It's not just a meal, it's an experience.

The sandwiches are not even close to mile high and still cost $19. Corned beef was just ok. Didn't taste "Corned". Don't go out of your way for this place but if near food is ok. If you want the best mile high corned beef go to Carnegie Deli on 7th in Midtown.

Looked in through the window and was astonished at how excellent everything inside looked . The window display and neon lit signs give this an eternal feeling. Boy would I like to go in some day

okay, we went on recommendation of friends... not realizing it was the famous "i'll have what she's having" movie place, until weeks later... a long walk from the metro... what a dump... and not nearly as good, nor clean, as canter's in l.a., but worth a visit to soak up some new york kulture.
