Didnt know what all the hype was about. A new yorker here 30 yrs never had it.. until one drunken night along with some out of town friends who were co signing the place like it was their fav uncles restaurant. But i thank those friends now although i spent about 80$ or so for 2 sandwiches 2 beers. It may have been worth it, it was so good. Corned beef all day !

If I could give Katz's 12 stars I would. Don't mess with success, get a pastrami on rye with mustard and you will be in heaven. I also love the potato pancakes but the pastrami sandwich is to die for.

You have to go to Katz to experience the controlled chaos. They used to not take credit but they take Apple Pay now. You can pay credit in the back. The place is always packed and has many things to look at on the wall. The sandwiches are the best part. You get a sandwich with more meat than you can finish.

Katz's Deli is a NYC staple. To me, I know it as the Delicatessen that other Delicatessens strive to be. It's all about the meat here, and dang it's pretty good. The ordering process is a bit wacky. All who enter here are given a charge slip. Once inside, you just order whatever and they mark your slip. The lines in here also throw people off. Each meat cutter works independently and each has a line of their own. If you want fries with that, you'll need to get in the fries line. Likewise for drinks. Tables along the back wall are full waiter service, and all the middle tables are free for all.

-=-Corn Beef on Rye-=- $15.45. It's pricey, yes, but pretty damn good. There's a slathering of mustard, but no matter how much mustard you put on it, the flavor of the meat will always dominate. It's pretty customary to tip your cutter as they are cutting your meat. They'll typically cut you a sample to try first too. I'm pretty mean to my body, but I always ask for fatty cuts. Thank me now, but you won't thank me later.

It was a busy Friday afternoon (aprox. 1pm) and after a disappointing walk to a BBQ place, my wife and I consoled ourselves with a shared lunch of a ruben a broccoli knish and 6 pints of the house beer. We sprung for the waitress service. She was quick with the beer and pickles but slow with the food. Came to ~65 without tip. Good food, you should check it out.

It's Katz right? You go for the experience, the tourist aspect, not the service. There were 4 of us so we opted for table service. Bad move- it took an hour and a half for us to get our food. This was a half hour of waiting, another half hour until a waiter got to us, and a half hour of waiting for the food after we ordered. Kind of insane that it would take that long.

The latkes are extremely good, and the sandwiches' appeal is that they are huge and massive. Taste wise, they're good. If you want real Jewish deli food, head on over to Russ and Daughters. If you want an iconic experience and celerities on the wall, go here.

Loved loved loved the pastrami sandwich. ....humongous. This was a great NYC experience for us. The ticket deal was a little odd...seems like there could be a better process. Overall would come back here again.

Don t be put off by the worries of huge lines, it moves fast and if you go during the week at night it s fairly relaxed. Do believe the tales of the Pastrami, it s as good as everyone says it is. Best thing about my trip to New York.

Literally the best food I have ever had. I will never not come back to NYC and not go to Katz. I had a hot dog, pastrami sammy, pickles, potato salad, and latkes. The Sandwhich is the best sandwhich I have ever tasted. It is on another level.

You can not come to NYC and not eat here! Granted the sandwiches are almost $17.00 but It has that much meat on it that my hubby and I share it and have leftovers for both of us the next day! Recommend the corned beef and the pastrami!

Definitely lived up to the hype! My husband had the pastrami on rye and raved about it. Im allergic to gluten so the guys just did the meat on its own which was still fantastic. Get the pastrami over the brisket it s 100x better and less fatty. Love love love!

This is a very crowded little delicatessen and don't expect to necessarily get your own table, it's a little like a Japanese steakhouse that way, your just have to go up to people where there's an empty seat or two and ask if they're taken. It's a good way to meet some interesting people though. The food was delicious but a but heavy, the portions were also very generous. You can really tell though why this place has been in business since the late 1800's, it really is fantastic.

Okay I can't say enough about this place, oh my God talk about a huge sandwich, you might think it's expensive but it's not... You're getting a sandwich that's big enough to feed you 4 times, and it tastes amazing! If I lived in New York City I would be huge from eating the sandwiches everyday of my life

What can we say, this place is a favourite of many for a reason. Grab a ticket and mosey up to the counter, request a sample of the different sandwich meat on offer. It is almost impossible to go past their pastrami. We ordered the Pastrami Reuben, possibly the best sandwich ever and would usually serve two. This sandwich was so good, Kurt got very protective of it and almost ordered a second. There is alot of foreplay involved in getting the meat so tender and moist. It is pickled in brine for 3 weeks, smoked for 3 days, boiled for 3 hours, then steamed at the counter and seved in a generous portion.

GREAT PASTRAMI. Turkey sandwich was alright. Portions were huge. I d recommend splitting a sandwich. The line was long but worth it. Their atm and credit card machines were broken so they only accepted cash.

When someone says "melts in your mouth" he probably thinks about this hot pastrami sandwich! It literally melts in your mouth! Legendary joint for typical Jewish food, mainly known for its hot sandwiches - corned beef, pastrami, ruben... Vibrant, busy, 100% New York experience. Worth the trip!

Best pastrami in New York! But other than the delicious food this is a unique experience to order food. You get your ticket, try some fresh cut samples, then get 2 sandwiches on rye: the pastrami and the corn beef. Just try both if your a first timer. They are expensive but totally worth it. It's like the caviar of meat.

The Pastrami Sandwich is delicious. If you go to NYC and don't eat a pastrami sandwich, you missed something big. Buy a Salami for Your Boy in the Army, or for you to take home and will remind you how good it is to eat at Katz's.

The corned beef and pstrami are deliciously out of this world. Huge sandwiches. Great sides such as potato knishes and fries. There is table service or if you feel that you would rather go self-service, you could order your food from the counter and bring it to a table or take out. The Dr. Brown sodas are great. The last time I was here, the waitress was HORRIBLE. I will never eat here again. When we complained to the manager, he had a BIG attitude. Prices are expensive. If you go, definitely go self service.

A classic NYC deli. Always packed during the day so be prepared to stand in a line outside and then a line again inside to get a table if that's what you want. Counter service is available as well for orders to go.

At first the prices are a bit alarming ($20 for a sandwich?!) But when you see the amount of food you get you realize it's not a deal. The salami is absolutely amazing and the brisket is perfect: brisket is lean and well trimmed but still tender and flavorful. If you want to try multiple options the 3 meat platter is great for 3 people to share. You get plenty of bread as well if you want to make sandwich.

It was okay at best. Huge line to get in and order, crowded like nothing I've ever seen, and kind of pricey for what you get. Ordered the corned beef sandwich, meat did practically melt in your mouth but really didn't have any flavor.
If you're wanting to go to say you went, that's fine. However, if you're going for a good sandwich then there are better options in town - in my opinion.

Katz certainly has an atmosphere! If you want that New York vibe that you see on TV, this place has got you covered. Don't be defeated by the 50-person line.. our outdoor wait was only 20 minutes, which was well worth the wait. I would recommend skipping the wait service, and serving yourself - wait service added 30-45 minutes to our stay. The pastrami sandwich was a treat, and one that I would recommend any first-timers to try.

There is a method to the madness and it's called Katz's Delicatessen.

It has attitude.
It has crowds.
It has pastrami.

I will always look for a place to compare with Katz's where ever I travel, but I will never find quality pastrami sandwiches like Katz's. Their corned beef is also to die for. Know what you want before heading in and you'll be fine. Be aggressive, but don't be a dick and have fun! I don't think you can go wrong with the food here. Keep in mind the prices are up there.

Try the pastrami with some cream cheese on the side. It's good. The service counter where you pick up your drinks may look at you crazy, but trust me it's good otherwise I wouldn't be telling you! Tell them Jerry sent you!

Pros
* Pastrami to die for
* Portions
* Taste

Cons
* Cost
* Crowds

Waited on line for 10 minutes, then when it was my turn the line cook on May 7th at 7:15 pm told me I was to the side of the next customer and not behind them so he let some freakin tourist skip me. I took my $150 dollars that I was going to spend there and took it elsewhere. Obviously the place has gone downhill, don't waste your time, they lost a loyal 15 yr customer. #brooklyndontplaythat

Pastrami on rye with mustard is your order. Its about $23 for a sandwich and a side of pickles. One sandwich can be enough for two if you re just a little hungry. Don t dare forget to tip your cutter. Walk past the first line or two of people waiting in line, each cutter has his own line. The place is very crowded, touristy and expensive. It s all worth it. It might well be the best pastrami sandwich you ever had.

What's left to say that hasn't already been said. Make sure to get the pastrami sandwich! The pastrami is juicy, charred and fatty. Also, if you arrive during lunch on a weekend be prepared to spend atleast 1.5 hours to get your lunch and table. People want what she is having and that can take some time. Also, don't be afraid to ask your cutter for samples of their other meats.

We ate here on our first trip to New York City. It's a little intimidating but the food is good! It's expensive but you can definitely share a sandwich and fries, it's a big serving. I would suggest trying it once!

Sliced thcker than we are used to, excellent coating, very very tender and never fatty or gristly, so you get your money's worth. Love the crazy archaic system with all the guards and ticlet/purchase control.

With all that drama we figured ordering might be complex. Just wanted a nice pound of pastrami. The server was actually really sweet and threw in some mustard for good measure. Wrapped it well and even smiled - probably not typical here. We appreciated it.

Got the meat home, with a great loaf of corn rye bread from else, and went at it.
Fabulous - 3 people ate the whole pound in one sitting - couldn't resist.

Have been around, native New Yorker, and I think I have found my favorite pastrami now.

Super busy place, expect at least a 30-45 minute wait on the weekend, though they do get people in and out quick.

I would consider the food to be just a little bit above average... but that's probably not the main reason people are going here. Prices are relatively reasonable.

The food is insanely delicious and the service is fantastic! There's sometimes a long wait, but that's because the food is insanely delicious and the service is fantastic! I LOVE this place!

A very lovely and old place.

A very lovely and old place.

Food: I'm not used to the wet pastrami sandwich. The Reuben with corned beef was really really really delicious. I really liked it so much. Come with friends to share because it's big. The hot dog was nice too. Love the sauerkraut. Pickles are huge. haha.

Service: one guy was really friendly and nice, another guy was more boorish. I guess it really depends.

Atmosphere: the place is super comfortable, well decorated, so much history. Love it lots.

It's near the subway exit, so you can't miss this place. Don't lose the meal ticket thing they give you. You can tip them at the counter if you like as you dont have to tip at exit.
