A definite must eat when in New York City and should be on your bucket list when visiting New York. We went during lunch time and when we arrived there was a line outside the door. We waited for about an hour and it was quite confusing and overwhelming when we first stepped into the deli because of the number of people inside. We ordered the Pastrami sandwich and the Reuben and both were delicious. If you tip, you get some extra pastrami on the side and some pickles with your sandwich. Quite expensive but it is definitely worth every dollar.
We would recommend this place to all first time visitors to New York City.

Awesome sandwiches, the menu offers a bug variety of them, place is big but crowded mostly the whole week. Yet an excellent place to go for a meal

The place was packed. It was hot out and the last thing I wanted was to wait in line to buy a $20 sandwich. But it ended up being great. The sandwich was actually worth it. It's huge an some of the best pastrami I've had.

If you're looking for a truly NY place, this is it. The staff is New York at it's finest. Just a side note, this is where Harry met Sally.

Gluten free friendly! They don't have gf bread but you can easily ask for no bread or have it on the side. The pastrami was incredible!! Like best ever! Even the pickles were incredible! This is a must for every NYC visit!

Katz's Deli was, is and always will be a great spot for a pastrami sandwich. You go in, get a sandwich the size of your head and some fries to go with it and you chow down. Its not that expensive considering how much you are eating and how famous it is. Its in a great location on Houston right near bars and is open late so if you want a giant snack that can double as a meal you can go there right after a night out on the town. Lots of pictures on the walls of famous people who have eaten there and you can always meet friendly people there as well

Pastrami anyone? Ruben? Both? Why not? This place isn't famous because of it's history, it's famous because the food is that good. Sometimes you just want to eat something familiar, that you know will be good. Katz is that place for me. Maybe it can be for you too.

Corned beef sandwich - no (dry)

Stick with what the establishment is known for. Succulent.

Pastrami sandwich is delicious and huge. We had to share it. Although the place is very noisy, packed, touristy and the food overpriced, this sandwich is still a must. I wouldn't be so sure about the other items they have : their french fries look industrial and the chicken soup doesn't look great...

Ok the sandwiches are really awesome, is something you have to try.

The prices, they are too expensive...the quality is excellent, and the service is ok.

Despite the price this is a place you have to go if you can afford a $20.00 sandwich.

The essential Jewish deli experience in the heart of the Lower East Side. It's always packed, but the lines move and the food is worth it. Don't choose between the corned beef and pastrami -- get both -- and add their delicious mustard to the fresh rye bread. Everything comes with pickles. And they carry the full line of Dr. Brown's soda (including the hard-to-find Cel-Ray!). The prices aren't cheap, but the portions are generous, so you're likely to have leftovers or leave feeling full!

The hype is real but I didn't understand why when I ordered the motza soup I had to go to one end of the butcher station while people ahead of me got it in the same line. Very confusing, but the food was great. The sandwich meat was perfect but $$$ for a single serving. It's a new york staple.

Hot, greasy, thick-sliced and unbelievably delicious pastrami is what motivates me to travel 78 miles roundtrip to this one-of-a-kind shrine.

For years, I was more partial to the pastrami served at the sadly gone Carnegie Deli. Even more so, the pastrami at Pastrami & Things, founded by the Carnegie's Leo Steiner.

But make no mistake about it: You'll never have a better pastrami sandwich than the one at Katz's.

Dry bread, dry meat incompetent staff. Tough guy (bouncer) cashier?? threatened my wife because they made a mistake and put both of our orders on the same ticket and claimed she lost hers. Hands down the most overrated place in NYC. Living off their name. Scumbags.

What is there to say? This is one of the famous delicatessens of New York. This is the one in the movie When Harry Met Sally. Get your ticket when you enter. All your orders are tracked on the ticket. Pay with a credit card towards the back or pay with cash at the exit. Don't lose the ticket! Have to try the pastrami Reuben! They give you a sample of the meat while they're making your sandwich.. yum!

Visiting Katz's for the first time was a real adventure. People from all over the world visiting. We waited to be seated and served by a waitress. Next visit we will try the Carver lines. Shock at the cashier to pay the bill "CASH ONLY". Luckily i had a $50 bill to pay the $48 tab. Best Matzo Ball soup and pastrami sandwich. Had to try the New York egg cream soda as well. Chocolate. No eggs and no cream, just a great tasting chocolate soda. Had to try it once.

I don't eat pastrami. I don't eat corned beef.

I don't eat pastrami. I don't eat corned beef.
I like both just fine, but usually have no issue avoiding them on a regular basis.

If I miss either sandwich from Katz's on a New York trip, however, I consider it an absolute failure. Their pastrami is not just good, it's to die for.

Huge fan, repeat cross-country customer.
All the stars. All of them.
The lines go quickly. And even if they don't, it's beyond worth it.

Best. Pastrami. Sandwich. Ever. A mountain of meat, the sandwich alone is more than enough food. Save money and forget sides that aren't going to be eaten.
Was a little taken aback by the price however, all up $55 before tax for two sandwiches and two soft drinks, however as a once off 'for the experience' that everyone recommended we do it was still worthwhile.
The restaurant itself is nice and large so seating wasn't an issue, and was cool to sit there and look at all the pictures of famous people who have also dined there. As was the sign that made us realise it was the same restaurant from the scene in when Harry met Sally

Seen the food on tv and in many social videos and needed to see if the hype was warranted... it was! Visited it on day 1 of my trip and all I could think about was going back. Staff advised well and we ordered only 1 pastrami sandwich between two - albeit reluctantly at first - with chips which were great and a beer too. It s got that a little dirty, needs a refurb charm about it but then so does the whole of New York.

Little pricey pretty sure they are capitalizing on tourists. Over $20 USD for a sandwich and that does not include sides or a beverage. The food is great other than that. They need a better processing system as it's pretty much a free for all in their. Other than that would go back for another visit.

So I took a trip yesterday to Katz's for one of their famous pastrami sandwiches. Though I have visited this establishment a couple of times prior, this time was the worst. I arrived at about 6pm. The host was wonderful cheerful and very upbeat, he greeted us with a smile. We stood on line 1. The cutter seemed very agitated and did not take direction of how we wanted our sandwiches made. Our sandwiches were wrongly prepared. Because of health issues, we specifically asked the guy please do not put fat on our sandwiches but when we sat down to eat the food that's all we found. There was so much oil dripping from the sandwich that we couldn't even eat it. The meat was sloppily cut. the guy put tomatoes on a sandwich for a friend who is allergic to tomatoes she specifically urged him please do not put tomato. This is very critical because she is totally blind. Because I know Katz's make wonderful sandwiches and I have had wonderful experiences there, I may visit again but I will never ever go to that cutter again.

Wow! Wow! Wow! This place is so delicious and filling. We definitely got the recommended pastrami sandwich to split between my partner and I. They add a lot of meat and salt so it would be smart to have earlier in the day so you don't go to sleep with heart palpitations like I did, eating it before bed. SILly me!

We recommend this place to all our Airbnb guests because it is a must try when you are in New York City. Katz is symbolic as it's opened by jews in jewtropolis NY, come on the menu screams it at you!

Anyway, it's delicious. Go spend 30 bucks on yourself!!

Katz Deli is a must if you're in NYC. Their pastrami is world famous but also try everything else because it is all delicious. Never have I met anyone who has regretted their time here.

This is my opinion of probably the most popular sandwich in town, where Hollywood made Meg Ryan have an orgasm at the actual table that we were seated! It's DELICIOUS!
We came here on a Wednesday night at around 9h30pm, we actually got to seat at the most popular table and tried the pastrami sandwich, which I thought was so juicy. Nothing like I had expected. This is one place that isn't over-hyped ! Pleasently surprised!
15 minutes just to look at all the pictures on the walls. Happy to have cum here...I mean come.

Definitely a place to go for lunch or dinner. However, very busy because it s a tourist destination. There is a reason they have been in business for over 100 years. Four stars because it is quite pricey for a sandwich. I would go again and do recommend it if you are going with others.

A confusing, cash only, deli with arcane rules that serves great food at a premium. I'm glad I came so that I could experience it, but I feel no need to come again. The pastrami was unreal, but it didn't make up for the rest.
