My mom was recently discharged from this place. Prior to being in rehab, she was using a cane to get around and living in an independent setting.
She did not get therapy for the first week, and she was there a total of three weeks. The physical therapist saw her five times, and I believe the occupational therapists saw her for about the same amount of time. Both signed off that she was ready for independent living.
She was discharged with an indwelling catheter. The social work expressed concern that she may not be able to manage the catheter. My sister-in-law who is anoccupational therapist, had serious concerns and questioned how the occupational therapist and physical therapist could sign off that she was ready for independent living.
She was very weak, she could not complete daily tasks on her own, and she required assistance. The therapist at Jones Harrison signed off that she was ready for independent living, and she clearly wasn't. Their job is to assess a residents level of needs were, and it is very clear that she was either discharged too soon and/or the therapist did not assess her appropriately. They failed!!
The social work person who set up the discharge, failed to call the facility where my mother lives. We learned upon arrival that family could not enter her facility due to a covid outbreak. There was no way in her condition that she could have set up her apartment, set up her meds, prepare her food without our assistance.
Unfortunately due to covid, family could not enter the Jones Harrison to monitor her progress. Had we been able to do so, then we could have made the workers more accountable and address our concerns. The only thing that we had were phone conversations and one family phone meeting. We relied on their feedback and assumed they were being honest.
My mother is now living in an unsafe environment. Jones Harrison gave us phone numbers to call if there were issues with her discharge. My brother physically went to the facility and was told by the receptionist that solince she was discharged, it was out of their hands and that they had to call the primary care doctor. Sadly he had to raise his voice till there was action and the social worker and a nurse came down and talked to him and gave him some more information to help with her situation.
It's a beautiful facility, but the staff and everyone else failed my mother. She's deteriorated in one month no thanks to this facility. Shame on them for discharging someone and not doing their job. They're a disgrace to their profession.
