Only one location left. I'm hoping they can stay afloat. My Ballantyne location had to close because of covid. I would be there much more if I could. $3 sausages on Thursdays!

Nice adaptation for social distancing. Great selection of canned craft beer, mostly local. New BBQ pork was good, but weekly special hot dogs are still as creative and tasty.

I am now addicted....passed this place multiple times. I shy'd away because I had no clue of the wide arrange of dogs they served. I love that they have what I eat and can create my own!!!! A must place to go

My family and I stopped by for Sunday dinner and we absolutely loved the atmosphere and food. The salmon sliders were delicious! My husband and children enjoyed the hotdogs and fries. We are planning a visit soon! Highly reccomended this place to families.

The kasekreiner was one of the most delicious bites I've ever eaten. The sausage had much more depth of flavor than I've tasted before and the sauerkraut and pickled onions coupled with the dark mustard made meal. If I go back, I'd just order two of these!

JJ's is a great place to grab a quick, inexpensive bite without compromising flavor. I'm huge fan, and recommend the Charheel if you want a great chili-dog.

Just moved to Charlotte, first time coming here and got the Borracho Nachos - got home and found out they gave me a small to-go bowl of just beans (and I paid $1 extra for the side). Not great.

Tried it once. Not so good. Gave it a second try. Same experience.

Great lunch spot. Friendly staff with answers to every question we had. Decided on 2 dog combo, Char Heel and Chili Cheese Coney. Sides of crispy crinkle cut fries, made just right and the best onion rings I've ever tasted. If you are in town, don't miss out on JJ's Red Hots!!!

Unique neighborhood casual restaurant. Used to be a music store, so look up and you will find the drum kit chandelier. Variety of delicious hot dogs and craft beer.

Great hot dogs, had the Chili Cheese Coney and the The Char Heel, both delicious. They have some crazy dogs on the menu for the adventurous...King of Pops is outside often. A big plus.

JJ's hotdogs are pretty good. Slightly charred but not overdone. The chili is decent. The red hot relish is sweet and delicious. Had their dogs at their store and also food truck, both are great.

Boy oh boy, do I love hot dogs...and JJ's delivers the goods! I was able to visit only once during my short business trip to Charlotte, but it was certainly worth it. And once I learned that Guy Fieri was a fan, I knew JJ's would not disappoint.

The menu is broad and there were so many that I wanted to try. I had to talk myself out of ordering a half dozen different dogs and just stick with one, for maximum deliciousness. I chose a standard dog with mustard, onions, grated cheese, and sauerkraut. One word...AMAZING! Perfectly balanced with excellent flavor from the first bite to the last. The crinkle-cut fries were the perfect complement to the dog. Fresh, hot, and crispy!

Can't wait to visit Charlotte again and make a stop at JJ's. Save me some dogs, y'all!!

The dogs are really good and the atmosphere is unique, not a chain.

I was pleasantly surprised to find a place that serves hot dogs! Serve them different ways from around the country! I love the onion rings ! Check them out, you won't be disappointed .

I worked at this location for quite a while. They made you feel like family even if you were just a customer! You can never go wrong with a good hot dog! They make their sausages in house and most of their toppings are made in-house as well.

Creative hot dogs, good craft beer selection, friendly staff, amazing deals...one of my favorite places in Charlotte

They have, in my opinion, the best hot dogs in the area. My fiance and I both are hooked and stop in to eat every time were near by.

(Edit) Just wanted to add that we have friends that have visited from different parts of the country, and we have to introduce them to the best hot dogs around. They all eagerly agree that they are amazing. Will be doing the same with friends from The UK in a few months. Introduced my future in-laws to JJ's, and now my future father in law insists that when my fiance and I have our wedding, JJ's has to do the catering!

In short, since moving to the Charlotte area, I'd say that if there's one restaurant that is an absolute must have, it's very easily JJ's!

I don t know if you ve been following this whole gentrification thing, nor do I know when the last time was you were near downtown Charlotte, but the amount of gentrification that has taken place in this area is one of the most astounding things I have ever seen in my life. In place of what was once overrun with dilapidated, derelict industrial buildings from another era and another economy are now brand new high rises occupied by beautiful modern apartments and businesses. I was positively awestruck by what I saw. Had you walked thirty years ago the streets I drove today, you likely wouldn t have survived. And if you had, you certainly would not believe what it looks like today.

One of the restaurants that is an important cog in the wheel of this overhaul is JJ s Red Hots.

A self proclaimed hot dog joint and not a restaurant, they are very popular and patronized by a wide array of different people.

They proudly serve Sahlen s wieners out of Buffalo, but I ll be honest: this is not one of my favorite franks, for they are very mild. But JJ s chars them to perfection and they have a natural casing. These two things elevate them to a higher status than they otherwise would have. In addition, the hot dogs are served on dense potato buns, which I was not thrilled about.

It may sound like this is adding up to a negative review, but the aforementioned shortcomings are more than redeemed by the quality of the accoutrements and service.

The man who took my order was both kind and helpful. I settled on an all the way dog, a Chicago dog, and a Southern girl, which has pimento cheese and bacon.

The Char Heel= the all the way dog. Both the slaw and chili were excellent. If this had been an all beef wiener or Sabrett, it would have been nearly perfect.

The Joliet Jake= Chicago Dog. It had all the correct trimmings and was probably my favorite dog of the day.

Southern Girl: the pimento cheese was very good and the bacon was okay, but it was oddly reminiscent of bacon bits (but it was not).

All of the above would have been approaching perfection if the wiener was stronger and the bun was lighter.

They also have a small pickle bar with about a half dozen homemade pickled items which were very good.

As one might expect in an eatery in a heavily gentrified area, the price was very high $4.29 per hot dog.

This is one of the relatively few hot dog recommendations that Our State magazine actually got right in their 2016 article about best hot dog joints. But even then, it s really the entire experience of the revitalization of this area rather than just the hot dogs alone.

In either case, JJ s is worth a stop if you re in Charlotte Town.

After seeing JJ's Red Hots on diners drive ins and dives and had to seenfor myself how great their homemade sausages were and let me tell you, THEY DID NOT LET ME DOWN! If you tend to enjoy a good authentic sausage fully loaded or not, you would be remiss if you didn't give this place a shot!

Small portion of food that are overly priced. Heard good things and read great reviews but wasn't impressed with my meal. Fries were cold, slightly burnt and no seasoning at all.

Definitely not as great as advertised. Got the coney dog. It was just okay. Got my labrador retriever a plain dog and he ate the bun and left the dog. Not worth the 30 minute drive.t

I didn't personally like the skin on the hotdogs and the fries and tatertots were cooked to hard.

I really wanted to like the hot dogs here but the one I got was burnt, the chili and cheese were very runny, and it was drowning a bit in chopped onion. It was an ok hot dog but not worth getting again. Otherwise the place had an old fashioned diner atmosphere which I enjoyed.

Cannot beat $2 hot dogs and draft beers on a Tuesday night. Clean and friendly service.

JJ's at Dilworth is the best! I have given up on the other locations. The original always gets it right. From the service to the food, I always have the best experience here over uptown and Ballantyne. Thanks for always being kind and welcoming to my family, friends, or co-workers. No matter who I drag in with me, they always leave with a great impression.

Best Sahlens dogs in Charlotte. Brings the up north flare to food

This place is usually very good & we come here often at least once a week with our kids. However today we stopped in to get a quick lunch without our kids. The service was horrible & the order was wrong. Our order is usually always wrong but the staff is always apologetic & is quick to fix this. Today, the young lady who brought us our order was rude making the comment "We made what was on the ticket." When she brought us what was supposed to be the corrected hot dog & yet it was still wrong she never asked if it was now correct or even acknowledge us. She just set the hot dog down with a little force & walked away. We were in shock! Do not know if we will come back to this location again because the service was horrible! I would like someone to follow up with us in regards to our visit today!

I really enjoyed eating at JJ's Red Hots the people were very friendly and very helpful the ambience was really good things were clean and in order and I enjoyed and I definitely will be back eat a JJ's Red Hots food was delicious

I love the whole experience here. The building is unique and the layout makes great use the space. The branding and marketing are friendly and helpful. Plus some of the best hotdogs I've ever eaten as well. Definitely a repeat place to eat when I'm up around East Blvd.

Wide selection of hot dogs and sausages, good atmosphere, good for kids as well.

Dogs are always delish, people are always super cool. The only bad experience I've ever had here is when I forgot to order enough food the first time around and had to go back for more (because it was just that good)

Tip: if you don't like your dogs well done, you can ask for a "light char"

Tip #2: I don't know what's in the orangeade (well, besides oranges), but you owe it to yourself to try it

Best dogs around! Worth the 40+ mile one way drive from Gold Hill NC.

Always meets my expectations, plus we finally got to enjoy da rooftop atmosphere at night!!
