Complete equipment for all types of training. Too bad that the cleanliness leaves something to be desired and that there is so much flanage, including in the locker rooms.

There are plenty of activities to discover there, and for all tastes!
Very poor service you have to pay a lot of money for Nothing.. very bad smell especially in sauna and bathroom . There is nobody to clean up the mess
Oh my god i am trying to cancel my membership as soon as possible...
I caught Athlete's foot infection here. Still have it to this day.
I wish they had warning signs about this.
The showers and sauna are very dirty at the Y of the city center. I stopped my subscription because of this. (Unlike the Guy-favreau YMCA which was clean)
This downtown YMCA is nicely located and close to the train, and other public transport. The weight room itself is bigger than other YMCAs. It s awesome if you love to lift heavy/power lift since it has a lot of deadlift platforms and squat racks!
Friendly helpful staff, Zumba and yoga classes are great, gym/pool are clean and not to busy.
I'm content. I like the gym, swimming, classes and the changing room is fairly clean. =)
I have been a member at this YMCA and it is a very nice place, yes the front people letting you in are rude. The facilities are great, I took Yoga, Pilates and fitness classes and all the instructors were very helpful.
As far as the bathroom, showers, sauna, people it's a public place you need to take precautions, seriously if you are walking around that area barefoot, well guess what you are asking for problems, I wish people would wake up and pay attention at where they are.
Overall I like the YMCA
Great for exchange and especially those who are interested in immigrating. I recommend hosting with native family to learn the language faster.
Overpriced for the services you get.
Equipment is outdated and basic and locker rooms are dirty. The pool is gross!
Personal trainers are highly unqualified and aggressive, desperately bullying each other and their clients.
The atmosphere is very tense and fake. Stay away!
Much better gyms out there!
Nice facilities but cold and unpleasant staff (not all of course)
Antonio was a great greeter and service was very good.
If you go there to play basketball, don't bother. You'll wait on the sideline at least 45min-1h. Used to go there for some time now and when I came back the other day, the desk clerk woman told me that now they give playing cards 30 minutes BEFORE the basketball actually starts and there are only 20 available. After that, you'll get the "WAIT CARD" and might end you not even playing at all. Worst system I've ever seen.
Great location! A beautiful gym and several services offered. A great gym to let off steam for lunch!
Have been training here since I was a McGill student and, 24 years later, I'm still training here, but am considering changing if this place doesn't get better within the year. The staff used to be friendly but lately customer service leaves much to be desired. The renovations to the Plus locker room inconvenienced everybody for over a month and yet the place is still full of mold. The gym is overcrowded. Classes don't always start on time. Sometimes instructors at the pool don't even show up. Terrible--its really gone downhill in the past few years.
The registration process took forever. I have been a client with them for 5 days, and I start asking myself why I pay $ 77 a month. The sauna for example the doors make a lot of noise when you open the door or close it. The temperature is always basic, it looks like it saves money. The towels are of a poor quality (I would like to see them wipe their faces). In the bathroom there is always a bad smell.
Good gym with pool and children's pool, clean and large cloakroom.
Good place to learn a language. The gym is a good size.
I am doing Karate here, and the karate group are lovely people, but
The place is one of the most insecure places I have been in Canada. They rub from your 20 bucks in the wallet to any other valuable things you have. And when you are rubbed they answer to you "why are you bringing valuable stuff?" Or ...
Rude staff (especially toward English speakers) and - in my case - eventhough I had a police event number, they were either ditching me or asking to call a supervisor who never picks her phone.
Good gym and respectful staff.
However one of their front staff employees Maria older age short hair is very rude.
After referring two people with no added free months i asked her about it and she simply didn t want to deal with it. Asking me to come another time i said ill be back tmo and she answered by saying okay whatever whatever. Very disrespectful and makes me rethink my membership of 5 years in that gym.
I stopped by the Chitu-Ryu karate class and really enjoyed myself. The Sensei is amazing. I then went for a swim in the pool. Very relaxing. This is a great facility.
unbiased reviewer here, its too expensive. stop it.
They continued charging me for months after I tried to cancel my membership! Never give your credit card to these people!!
Friendly staff and decent facilities but the gym is overcrowded and some users have a poor etiquette. Many people seem to treat it like a social club rather than a place to train and be focused, with lots of shouting, people having loud conversations right next to the bench you're working on, or not racking the weights in the right places... Very distracting.
If you can afford it become a member elsewhere. They cancel activities without notice. I don't know how many times that I found that the pool was closed on my way to the locker room to change.
I find the YMCA gym on Stanley street in Montreal to be a very pleasant gym to go to. The employees and trainers I interacted with are very friendly and courteous. The gym is well organized and those using it adhere to the rules. GREAT GYM.
I did the French course there which is great. The gym is okay, good but nothing extraordinary. The French course was q bit expensive when compared to other courses in the city.
okay, i did call them about my account information and there is a guy basiclly refused to talk to me and just hung up directly?????
and of course, there people are all great players, really god at passing the buck
Great communication and cooperation in the middle of the pandemic. Thank you, guys!
I have taken 4 French courses here.
The quality depends on the teacher you get, some are good and some are bad.
The staff at the front desk are so nice and helpful, but I do NEVER suggest anyone to register in swimming classes there. The teacher (George) is SO RUDE AND NERVOUS and the manager of the pool doesn't care about the negative feedbacks from others.
Nice and friendly staff but not quite organized.
My biggest complain is that the place is not quite clean,
The Mats and equipment are smelly and and the spaces are not well ventilated; specially the changing room,
The price makes sense only if you use multiple services, for the Cardio only there are cheaper places with better quality.
I can't imagine how rude the front desk people are specifically the senior ones not the Junior.
If a machine breaks it will take 3 months to repair it. Locker rooms are disgusting including the Plus one ( which is falling apart!). Overpriced for a very poor quality of services.
Management does not give a f@#$ about members feedback. V disrespectful and believe that people are stuck with them and willing to accept anything so they don't really care... Don't go there plenty of better gyms available in that area
Bunch of imbeciles, gathered in the front desk to waste people's time and ruin a perfectly good facility because of their lack of competence.
Poor service. The equipment is old and rusty. They actually have runway for people to run IN the gym area. One of the worst ymca in Montreal.
Swimming lessons for young children were great here and the pool was not as cold as other places we have tried.
This is a very good school, excellent teachers and you can learn a lot.
Excellent YMCA, clean, large choice of activities, friendly teams !! However, the customer experience at the reception leaves something to be desired. Reception staff are often unaware of the procedures and uncooperative.
The reception of the Ymca city center leaves to be desired the customer service is poor, I try to make a request for termination of my subscription they take me by boat for more than 2 months, each time I get information j call to cancel because I am traveling for more than 3 months I am asked to come in person, I spend a Saturday morning on my return I am told it is necessary to go from 09 to 05 h weekdays to cancel for lack of ca your subscription will be billed we promised that their manager Maryem would call me to resolve my situation she never called me then when I call they pretend she is not there, and then they listened to me they gave it to me on the phone !!!! for her to tell me that I can send an email to cancel that the first person I had on the phone a few months ago could have told me !!! I do not recommend this center !!! Are all very rude! No professionalime and don't care about customers! Surout legas de acceuil !!! I paid more than 5 months for nothing :( :( I would have given a Zero if I could!
The staff is rude and unpleasant. I have been going into gyms for more than 10 years and this is from far the worst experience I ever had. I will certainly never go back there again.
One of the best places for fitness. Got a whole lot of activities for summer and for winter. Enough equipments for cardio and weights but when it comes to squats with smith machines it gets a lot crowded during peak times like 6-7AM and 6-8PM.
Cleanliness is at a good level, good personal trainers(even though I haven t tried anyone for myself yet but I can see them training others and I think they are good )
Good options to play games like Basketball and Volleyball. Haven t tried swimming pool yet. So overall a nice place and I recommend this place.
Very nice gym. I like the track that goes around the weight lifting area. Locker room is also spacious and clean. Some of the weight machines are getting old, but not too bad.
During a payment problem, the YMCA charges $ 15 more without even warning that a problem has occurred (for whatever reason). I strongly advise people to read your contract because they never repay the amount ($ 15) and personally I find the practice outrageous. To avoid !
Nice gym with great staff and good facilities. It does get crowed during rush hours but the rest of the time it is very enjoyable.
Nice gym well located with a nice atmosphere! A wide variety of courses and activities. You have to be patient during rush hour, however.
Extremely rude staff. Especially very rude towards english speakers
I remember I used to go there for bodybuilding. One time, I needed to use the "inclined" bench press. There was no one there and no towel..I looked around for like 2 minutes and nobody was there. So I decided to start training there. But then, this dude ( a black tall chubby dude ) came to me and says " Hey man, I'm there".... I look at him and told him that I didnt see any towels on the machine nor anyone training there... He responded back " Well too bad, im there, you can't use the machine" . I was really upset and call the management to complaint.. but guess what, the person in charge ( another black old man ) was his friend, and he took his friend's side and told me to find another machine. Now I was "really upset... worst experience in my whole life. I went to the man dresser room to change and that old man followed me to ask me for my ID... I'm like..." why should I give you my ID?" He's telling me for verification purposes. I told him "no" I dont have to give you anything espacially after what happen. People don't have the right reserve a machine ESPACIALLY if there's no evidence that someone is there ( like leaving a towel on the machine for instance? Hello? anybody here? ) and also, even if he was training there, he could of "shared" the machine with me as this was a public gym... I've been training for more then 23 years and I must admit that this gym is by far the "worst" I've been to. I think few years later, I decided to give it another shot and came back to train again.. but this time, it was worst, there was this "rep" guy who was I'm assuming a "coach" or something as they all had red YMCA shirt with "coach" on their back. Well, Not sure why, but this white kid was following me everywhere I go. I really don't know if he had a crush on me.. or if he was spying on me or whatever. All I know is that this kid ( in his 20's I guess ) was getting on my nerves for always staring at me and following me during my training time. Well, anyways, I decided to never come back there, This is a gym for "old people" or "newbies" Not for advance bodybuilders. Cheers.
The machines are very old and if they break they will break forever. Even when I mentioned their machines to break down they were quiet. The sauna sucks balls and is not hot and the bathrooms are not clean and there is always pee on the floor.
I took my language classes and I am very satisfied!
They still use CDs for their English course .... outdated!
Lot's of activities for adults. Nothing for kids under 8 years. My favorite place attached to Metro station, but unfortunately finding free parking there is almost impossible.
I have been a member of the fitness center for over 10 years and have nothing negative to say. The place is very pleasant to frequent and there is a good spirit of community.
great facilities, helpful staf, and amazing karate sensei and dojo.
Treated with no respect by the swimming instructor.
A great place to learn a language. Did'nt try the gym
I am a member and I love my Y. Yes, it is a downtown location, so it gets crowded at times. Yes, trainers and staff are mostly volunteers, so there can be little issues with time, desk service, etc. But if you look beyond those minor everyday realities of a community-oriented organization's operational details, you find a well-supplied gym with several great facilities and very dedicated health specialists.
My one *real* issues? The idiots that can lift up weights, but MUST drop them from a height to grunt their masculinity out loud rather than showing their real strength and gently putting down their weights. It reverbates through the entire floor and management should be stricter with such behavior.
The gym equipment is in good condition and the locker rooms are clean. The staff is friendly and accomodating
Lovely and super clean place. Good service.I highly recommend it
One of the most complete gyms in the city center, but very, see too busy especially on weekdays between 17h and 19h30.
So packed ... I tried all hours of the day ... always packed ... they are equipped with everything you need, but good luck getting your hands it on it- & if you do get your hands on it, be prepared to defend it!!! Too many people at one location.
Lots of space and dedicated bench/squat racks/seated push press, but the bars are extremely slippery so bring chalk or straps.
Pricey, but good classes. Probably dependent on the teacher you get though. I took French with Nicolas, and he was AMAZING!
Heres the thing, the YMCA is apparently a non-profit organization. A charity based in the heart of downtown, the members are expecting at least some respect and comfort. It lacks these in some ways. I am a member here and I do enjoy training here, but there is a lot of room for improvement.
Their monthly fees are quite expensive, even for students but you do have access to: classes, swimming pool, weight room.
Cleanliness: 0/10
- I know some people who got ring worm and athlete's foot from the lack of cleaning being done in the sauna and showers.
Weight room: 7/10
- the problem with the weight room is that it becomes insanely over crowded around certain times of the day, it does have a couple machines that need repairs but OVERALL they have what you need.
Commercially aggressive and zero care for their clients.Go somewhere else.
I only join the y because they have a track for running,I only train during the winter months, the only thing I don't like is that I have to pay a joining fee everytime I join,
Too many people in there, I tried going at many different hours but the place is packed all day long, they would need to stay open 24 hours a day to make it less busy all the time, I will no longer go to that location, going to stick with Guy Favreau and Wesmount.
Dont go with them! After I paid the fees only they said that the refund would be 60% if i cancel my classes (they didnt tell me till i paid). I called them within 24 hours (more than 10 days before the class start date) and they refunded me 60% of the course fee which is 44% of what i paid. This does`t make any sense. Why would I pay 56% for nothing? what benefit I got????? They just want to make money not work as a helping institute.
The worst gym in North America. They just try to cheat innocent people by so many hidden charges don't give your credit card number to this company stay away.
Pure escroquerie.
