A place that is a gift for all the senses, simply wonderful

We loved this place. The food was amazing and had the customer service to go with it. Jaga is lovely, funny and puts the customer first. We felt welcomed and comfortable as soon as we arrived, in fact, even on the phone, as I called ahead to confirm it was open in the evening (which it is, from 6:30pm til 9pm). We are vegan and were served 10 different vegetable curries and dishes, all of which were delicious. Of particular note were the jackfruit curry, the sweet potato curry and the aubergine crisps. The coconut roti for starter was also delightful and arrived hot, fresh from the grill. It was quite expensive we thought, but worth it! Jaga also dropped us home after as we had initially struggled to get a tuk tuk! Thanks a lot! :D

Jaga's offers a great range of delicious, freshly-prepared curries using veggies from the garden. Set on the edge of a rice paddy, and with a small pond adjacent, Jaga's is frequented by giant water monitors, kingfishers and peacocks as well as lots of satisfied diners. The meal includes all you can eat red and white rice, veggie and meat curries, coconut roti, pappadum plus a dessert. You can also get fresh juices and cold beer. All of this combines for a great Sri Lankan dining experience.

Really wide range of typical local food, especially for vegetarians. Great taste, good price, astonishing host. Would eat there again.

Awesome place with a beautiful balcony! You have a great selection of different currys. In the garden you can find all the trees and plants which are used in the currys.

There is a tourist trap and a tourist trap, and here we almost forget that it is one. Very charming place, food 60% from its garden for vegetables, we eat well and we laugh with the boss who knows how to do it. The lack of premises at the table reminds us that it is a place for tourists but not serious, we contemplate the monitor lizards and we revel quietly

Excellent food all natural with no added preservatives or anything that s artificial. Excellent hospitality. Cleanliness is just as excellent as everything else. Would without a doubt recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting polonaruwa.

On the advice of our driver Dandara ended up here, highly recommended. Delicious eaten by extremely hospitable people. An experience. If you are in the area: just do it!

Don't go anywhere else to eat in Polonnaruwa, this is the best place

This place is heaven on Earth. After we had lunch at this magical place, I felt that I could die in peace in happiness.
It is a farm in the middle of a rice field, the vegetables they use are grown in the garden. There is a buffet with at least 10 different meals you can try. ALL ARE AMAZING! The owner of the place is a friendly, kind man, he shows everything around. They also have cooking classes, what unfortunately we couldn t try, but at least there is a reason to come back :)

Very friendly service. Nice grounds with messages from previous travelers written on walls and ceiling. The place is inward from the street, so just follow the signs.

The best restaurant we ate at during 2 weeks in Sri Lanka. Absolutely incredible local food. Fresh ingredients from the garden, lovely hosts and amazing view over the river and water monitor lizards! One of the best food experiences I've ever had, it's THAT good.

It wasn t just about the food, but also the place and the people. Jaga is a family-run restaurant where they grow their own vegetables. It is surrounded by gardens and rice paddies. The food is tasty, fresh and abundant. I was welcomed warmly and served an amazing meal of several veggie curries, red rice and rotti. I left there fat and happy.

Family restaurant where you can eat traditional homemade Sri Lankan food and produce grown by them. I found the most tasty and delicious cuisine of our entire trip. Super attentive and friendly service. The place is a cabin in the middle of the very cool rice fields with a river nearby with iguanas. We loved it! Super recommendable :)

After long days of bad food in Polonnaruwa, we finally ended up here and hey - what a wonderful place! The owner greeted us kindly, explained the food to us and served us one of the best meals I ate in Sri Lanka. We had a three course meal with a big curry as main dish and I was so happy with it. Delicious! I also liked the atmosphere of the place, we sat at a river, enjoyed the sunset and relaxed.
There were a lot of mosquitos when we visited (after 4 days of heavy rain).
Anyway: Highly recommended! Go there! Eat there! Thanks to the host for the great dinner!

JAGA FOOD is an amazing family owned restaurant. The food was second to none and perfect for any traveller. So affordable and an amazing array of vegetarian and gluten free options.

Jaga food was excellent! It is a family run place serving the best food we had in Sri Lanka. The owner was very friendly and showed us how to make coconut rotis. A bit out of polonnaruwa but worth the visit! Does not pay commission to tuk tuk drivers so some may not take you there saying it is too far, but keep trying. Would recommend.

A very special place where you can relax wonderfully. The food was extremely delicious and was partly freshly prepared in front of our eyes.

The special thing is that you can leave a thank you in writing on the walls and columns, on the ceiling, on the floor and wherever there is free space.

Easily visited out of season and still received a warm welcome. If you are looking for typical local food is here in the right place. The food was very well prepared and the price-performance ratio was far in the direction of performance ...

We had blast over here, owner was super welcoming and kind, he explain to us everything about food, did great service.
Food was very tasty and tradition best think about it is they grow most things around, so everything is local fresh without any substantive.
Highly recommend this place to try!
+ there are varans in small river next to restaurant you can watch them when you eat

Excellent Sri Lankan Food a short tuktuk ride from Pharo Lake

Absolutely delicious food, and a fantastic host.

We happened upon Jaga s restaurant on our first night in Polonnaruwa and ended up coming here every night, including taking part in a private a cooking class with Jaga and his wife on our last visit.

All food is prepared super fresh with all the veggies coming from the garden on the property. The flavours and quality are out of this world. I wish we had places like Jaga Food back home in Australia - the quality and love in each of the dishes is one of a kind.

Best place in town. Jaga is the best and most honest man we met in Sri Lanka. He serves 10 quality currys daily for a very low price. He grows most of his products in his own garden. There are otters and massive lizards living in his backyard. We are there a few times and every night we had the best night. Call Jaga in advance so he can help you with the TucTuc fares.

Amazing place for local cuisine. A bit pricey but worth it considering the buffet had a large selection and all of them were quite tasty. The owner is as friendly as ever and takes pride in his own grown vegetables and meals. The place has an indie/homely feeling with comments from customers all around the world scribbled on the walls tables and even the ceiling. Washrooms are great, clean well maintained.
And there are water monitors as an attraction.

We went there after a visit to the ruins in Polleneruwwa. Warm welcome. Fantastic food, tasty curries, vegetables from our own garden. Beautiful rice fields also surround it. Really super !!

Great Sri Lanka food. It is a buffet with the really spicy dishes clearly indicated.All dishes were really tasty and the price is quite low. Service is really friendly. If you sit close to the river you can see some water monitors very close.

Jaga is great and the food is good too. Try the "dynamite" curry if you dare. See the water monitor lizards. Write your 'appreciation' on the walls or ceilings.

This is a great place for lunch or dinner! A large vegetable patch or orchard where the owner grows his fruits and vegetables to compose his dishes.

A very beautiful Sri Lankan Buffet, a very warm welcome from the owner and nice, they feed the monitor lizards which are in the river at the edge of the restaurant. From the terrace, you may be able to admire them during your meal.

Jaga (the owner) and wife, both were super nice. Try to make you happy and they both are attentive. Food are organic. They serve traditional srilankan cuisine. Do not expect for ala cart menu, it is a buffet. They serve mostly vegi but they have fish and chicken too. Overall was a good experience and i recommend you to try.

The best meal experience in Sri Lanka!
Super friendly staff, 2 full buffets (one spicy and one with no spice) with lots of incredibly tasty food. We were told that 60-80% of the food used to cook is grown in their own garden which is beautiful. There are lots of vegetarian options as well as a few with meat and fish.
The restaurant is clean and tidy and very well situated away from the main road, beside a river. This is a must stop for wildlife lovers. In the hour we were present, we saw bitterns, kingfisher, brahminy kite, peacock, mongoose and several water monitors.
Thank you Jaga Food for the best meal of our honeymoon so far!

Jagat is an exceptional host and the food was delicious too. His family was very welcoming and friendly. We wish we could've gone there for a second meal.

Very nice place. Food is awesome Sri Lankan foods. Home made Sri Lankan good place is very small. Owner is really cool guy and very good service. Best place is in Polonaruwa. Per person 950 LKR but you get so many curries and desserts.
