I moved here from California and I was staying the InTown Suites on Beach Boulevard. I called the Sheriff's Department around 2:45 a.m. to tell them there were two guys coming to my door knocking on it. The last time they came around was around 2:30 and I asked who it was and they didn't want to answer I went to lock my door and they pushed it in thinking I was opening my door. I told the dispatcher exactly what happened and he told me they were going to get a unit out right away. An hour later the dispatcher calls me and asked me if I still need a unit to come out and I replied of course at least have some presence. I waited for another 45 minutes and I hear banging on my door when I went over to the door and asked who it was no one answered I kept asking loudly who is it and no one answer I looked through the peephole no one was there when I looked out the window the two cops are standing by the side of the door I understand the precaution but why didn't they themselves. When I open the door I told the officers you know I just called about strangers knocking on my door and I'm asking who is it and you don't even say Sheriff's Department and identify yourself one of the officers reply was uh-huh so I told him I didn't need them anymore but at least their presence mean something and all he said was okay and walked away. I can't believe that all I got from them once they got here was uh-huh and okay. What a joke but I'm sure if I put in a complaint they'll just throw it in the garbage.

I had a lot of respect for our blue. Until they refused to interview a witness that saw a car accident. I got cited because of front end damage. The lady fled the seen not knowing HER COWORKER was behind us and saw the entire incident. He chased after her and made her come back to the scene. I have front end damage not cause I ran into her but because her back tire ripped off my front end. She was an unlicensed driver and the police then only wrote her a ticket for no license and then let her drive off in the car she hit me in. She also tried to tell the police she had a passenger. That would had made 2 wittinesses if their had actually been one. She told me she had to get to the store to pick up meds for her kid. No. She was late for work. But to let her drive off after she fled and had no drivers license so she could victimize someone else? I no longer have a blue American flag hanging at my house. Knowing how that was handled? I m starting to understand why a lot of people say what they do about local law enforcement. Shame on JSO! That was true laziness on your part. Now I have to pay for someone else s mistake and I have to pay for the clear mistakes you made by refusing to interview a witness that not only saw the entire incident but tried to help me by chasing her down because she fled the scene. You have lost our respect. I was the victim and you failed me. Thank you for doing the job of a low level security guard. (Nothing). And you let her drive away with no license and she was not even from this country. She had an expired license from Jamaica. You put other people in danger because you let her continue to drive after She was found not to have a license! It took 3 officers to write a ticket. Remind you of any jokes??

My wife got robbed, within 15 minutes an officer was on the scene. A week later the officer drove to our home and hand delivered her belongings back to her and the criminal is behind bars.
Couldn't ask for more.

It should not take over an hour for a deputy or community service hour to respond to writing a police report for a simple fender bender, especially after three phone calls, where two people are waiting for an update in a 90+ degree heart. I guess this does not "generate revenue" compared to writing tickets for simple traffic violations.

Zero stars if I could give that. Got robbed at gun point and some how I end up in jail for it. No shoes on the entire time while being arrested plus half naked taken to jail in that same condition. . locked in mental because I'm ADHD. . Never was given special food for being Diabetic.. 2 seizures and a panic attack before medications were even distributed. The upmost crappiest service, they dont care about health or ones well being. JSO is not protecting or preventing!

This place is unbelievable. I called because I had a friend in need because his child was taken by the other parent. I called to see what could be done and the lieutenant (a woman) was super dismissive. It boggles my mind that if that child is in possible danger, she wouldn t tell me which avenues to take to be able to help my friend. She blatantly said tELL HiM tO CaLL . Well he did, and they were dismissive as well. Officers are supposed to be servants to society. Lieutenant, if you re reading this, please review and STUDY Sir Peel s 9 principles of policing and his 3 core ideas ! This is disgusting !!!

As Jacksonville Sheriff Office , I am so sorry to tell you that you prove your failure as law enforcement in this city. Since the election of Mike Williams as Jacksonville Sheriff , situation in this city so bad and horrible. The number of crimes increased progressively , somedays we hear that there were 7 accident of killing and gun shoot . Where are you from this accidents ? If you are unable to control the safety and security in this city , may be can hire some armed militia from Honduras or Haiti to establish security in Jacksonville. It is very shameful what we see everyday of killing innocent peoples as a result of some outlaw gangs or criminals .

I need the police to come out and take a report since a crime happened to me in duval county. I had to come to duval and wait for a cop to show up. I waited 2.5 hours while I saw many cops drive by. This is pathetic. I'm all for cops to and usually side with them when they shoot unarmed black men and others. Maybe I should have called them and told them I'm witnessing a murder.

"Officer" BRYAN RANKIN is a childish thug who is triggered by someone simply exerting their rights. He is ignorant of basic American rights and laws. Public photography is NOT a crime. RANKIN is now a tyrant after years of violating people's rights because he feels like it, with no consequences.

Only reason giving 1 star is I have not had any interactions with them...I just want to say I have been to Jacksonville twice and both times have been out walking and about get run over trying to cross the street in crosswalk with walk signal and have even had someone put there window down and yell at me. It's clearly posted turning vehicles yield to pedestrians but I guess there is no enforcement and people just don't care. I'm sure a city the size of Jacksonville has lots of higher priority calls but if they have a traffic unit it wouldn't hurt to crack down on people not yielding or running through red lights, heck I even seen a JTA bus blow through 1.

Called being my neighbor's dog was head butting my fence and broke 2 slates. The neighbors boarded it up .. then on the 2ed of July took the boards down. On the 26th they let their dog out... though next to him his dog got my dog in his jaws. .my dog is ok now... well on the 28th he took half my back fence down and said it cost him 260.00 for what he was putting up. Told him he was on my property and the fence company I have will becoming out the 12th of September. Told him he should of asked me... he just started with the Florida patrol at night and only 15 days a week.
I called the non emergency number and mentioned about,my problem. She said the case is known and to call this number. As soon as I did the one hung up. Then they want 5 stars? My credit score is over 820, never been arrested .. never had a traffic ticket. .. 65 years old... shame on them :(

I used to go to sheriff walks when they in community but something I notice. All the top brass in the ranking officers go on the walk. They need spend more time in the street. I heard a police officer say you only see them at the sheriff walk. 25th and Main and the Brentwood area after being around officers for 2 years I noticed they don't treat the community the same as regular offices. If you want to stop the killings and Duval County you really need to work with the police department. There is something going on in the Brentwood Area Community, civil rights are being violated in the community is afraid to communicate with the police offices. Never thought that I would be a victim of civil rights violation by police officer.

I called to report a local business commiting credit card fraud. Multiple officers refused to do anything because I couldn't get an exact time that it took place. My credit card company instantly had the charge returned, but the departs initial reaction was to place me under suspicion for trying to file a fraudulent police report.

Jax PD officers are great asset to out city, officer's are always respectful and courteous. Waching news of bad police around the country really shows the difference of our city's officers. I would like to see in the future a lot less spending on equipment and more on personnel. Traveling to NY and NJ and PA I see squad cars carry equipment carried over from signed off vehicles and do just fine with the old cages, shot gun racks, light bars, push bumpers etc.

The mission of law enforcement couldn't be more clearly stated: to protect and serve. Somehow JSO manages to continuously miss that. There are a handful of great officer's, but I'm noticing a trend with most of the younger recruits: they are unfit for law enforcement and are quick to be aggressive and disrespectful. It's gotten to the point where I've considered leaving Jacksonville.

As a law abiding citizen, I fully respect and honor police officers. I admire their bravery and willingness to help others. Today, I managed to get my car stuck in some sand. I tried putting a tarp under my wheels to get traction, digging around my wheels, etc. Nothing is was working. I saw a JSO Officer sitting nearby. I walked over and politely asked for advice on how to get myself out of the sand. He criticized me, then said he would come help. He pulled me out of the soft sand once, but did not give clear directions on how to get turned to the hard ground. I ended up in a hole again. The officer scolded me saying things like, It s not rocket science! , Listen to me! You re not listening! , If you get stuck again, I m not helping you again , Here you do this...*sigh* never mind, I ll do it. After the second try, I managed to get turned to the hard ground. Although I appreciate the officer pulling me out, I m laying here the night of my birthday (as I was hoping for a nice relaxing day at the beach for my birthday, but got this in return) unable to sleep because of how rude, disrespectful, and hurtful that officer was towards an innocent civilian. I cried for a good 2 hours after the incident. I could understand if I was committing a crime and the officer got rude to me, but I did nothing wrong and was just seeking advice. Hopefully, next time I need to interact with an officer, he/she will be more professional. I still love and support law enforcement, I just wish today s interaction was different.

Absolutely lazy oxygen thieves. I have reported multiple serious offenses to the JSO and they dont want to do their jobs. Go eat some more doughnuts and keep hiring stellar morons. All respect is lost for this organization.

Update: (2/26/2018) Two times the JSO are called to my residence for DV, they disbelieve me both times, bc I am a man. Then I get smart and record the abuse. They still wont take a statement and the officers statement is a complete fabrication. This would be hard to believe, except I am the victim, not the offender and I have it all on HD video. Hmm....JSO has a problem with doing their job and the truth.(probably not the best combination for a police officer) Record all interactions with them.

I'm DISGUSTED by the way you handled Ms. Boykins MURDER. You let not ONE but TWO murders go free. Cannot trust the justice system. Obviously you idiots couldn't see the obvious connection. Laziness. Lie detectors are COMPLETELY unreliable PLUS you idiots ONLY asked about Natasha killing HERSELF , no wonder he passed. SHE DIDN'T KILL HERSELF. Complete IDIOTS. Personally , i HOPE her mother sues the pants of you people. I WOULD .

Is a top notch law enforcement agency. The officers that work here are some of the most dedicated and loyal civil servants doing their very best to protect and serve the community of Duval. They work in a dangerous county and work their hardest with the staffing they have to eradicate the scourge that is plaguing this county. I hope the city council provides the financial tools the JSO needs to recruit quality candidates to assist in lowering the crime rate. The staffing levels are low and with no pension and currently high cost of insurance, the job of recruit must be difficult. When you see a law enforcement officer in a JSO uniform shake their hand and tell them thank you for working a dangerous job to help in the safety of this city. God bless the officers of the JSO!!!

Sgt. M White was extremely unprofessional, unhelpful, inappropriate, and unacceptable to me and my husband last night. We simply were asking for advice on where to park as the road we needed to get on was closed. He kept screaming, "WHAT PART OF MOVE DONT YOU UNDERSTAND!!!!???" Meanwhile, the event that must have taken place had looked to be over some time ago. I have NEVER been spoken to in the manner he felt so comfortable. I can only hope that he finds another job, because this one is not his calling. To think that I help pay his salary makes my blood boil. Sad.

I wish I could give negative stars. My vehicle was damaged and instead of writing me a report the officer insisted my car was purchased that way and did not write me a report. The second officer threw a piece of paper and hit me in my face with it before driving off. I will be filing a complaint and suing them for battery. All they had to do was write a 3 sentence long police report, but instead they belittled and laughed at me. I am still waiting on Sergeant Johnson to call me back from yesterday about his officers! Still waiting Sergeant Johnson.... Still waiting. You all are a DISGRACE. I am so glad I am not originally from here and will not be here much longer. But I plan on suing the entire department while I am here. See you soon JSO... See you soon!

Police officers are not exempt from treating people with respect and courtesy, even if they are speeding. Here's a thought: if you as public servants wish to have the respect of the people you serve, try giving it. It is unnecessary to talk to people in a rude or condescending way.

It's been over a year. Even though what I called about was theft, you never charged him with that or breaking and entering. I have texts where he admits it. He was also driving drunk and you caught him in his car yet still that wasn't a charge. Im out $4000 worth of stuff. I called 911 to report a burglary in progress at my home and you hit him with dating violence? Ive left numerous messages, spoke to detectives etc.. still this loser gets my things and I get no justice even though there's text messages of him admitting to it. Two detectives and a year later and still no progress. You hear that Jax? You can break into someones house and get away Scott free! I've been blown off time after time. Luckily, a family friend is the ADA in NY and helped me file a complaint with the IAB that oversees JSO. Ive also written a letter to the AG and he wants the names of the officers involved which, luckily for me, I have. 50 minutes on a dead night to get to my house after you failed to do anything when there was a clear pattern of escalation. A year has gone by and my life was uprooted, I saw no justice and he wasn't charged with anything relating to the theft or break in even though they arrested him after. I cooperated fully and did what was asked of me. They can't even return a call. Now the DOJ has reached out, I'm assuming because of me contacting the AG and IAB. They want the report number which I have as well as the officers name involved. Im not going to stop until I get my things returned, only now I'll make sure the officers involved get sanctioned or end up on the unemployment line. I worked as a paralegal for 4 years in NY, I'm not an idiot and it's sad the majority of cops here can't follow through on a case that involved battery, burglary and theft. You won't charge him with grand larceny and help me get my things back, then I'll go through the proper channels to do so and I'll make it my goal to make sure they end up on the unemployment line. Have a similar story? Contact me and I'll help you file a grievance against the police. If cops in NYC and Chicago can do their jobs while overburdened, then you can do yours. If you can't, find another job. Your incompetence is not only concerning, it's becoming an obvious problem here in Jacksonville.

This is by far the worst Sheriffs department I have EVER encountered in the US. I agree with most of the negative reviews on here. The closest I can compare this nonsense to is the Iraqi Police, sad! Your job is to solely protect and serve and by serve, it is serve the public. If I call you guys about a crackhouse your response shouldn t be, you shouldn t live in that neighborhood. Really? Maybe you should fix our neighborhoods by patrolling and being proactive with the community. But, community seems to be a word that is not understood or has been forgotten. As per some reviews saying that law breakers are posting negative reviews, that simply isn t true. That right there shows a disconnect and I bet those reviews are from JSO officers.

One of the detectives told my husband that he would recommend no fines and no probation over a petty thing that happened he didnt hurt anyone or anything huge hell the detective even said he didnt even want to do the undercover stuff because basically it was dumb and a waste of time well my husband went to court a criminal case and was never given a chance to seek council he was just told he was guilty and had to pay a fine. The amount is not a huge amount but for us poor people where we live paycheck to paycheck and fight to survive everyday its alot of money over $300. This detective lied to my husband. I have no problems with the cops but when they find stupid little things just so they can make money instead of going and getting the real bad guys thats pretty bad. Hell in 2005 my dad was murdered and the guy that did it is still free why because they are not doing anything about it. Cops and detectives do us a favor and catch the real criminals.

About Jacksonville Sheriff's Office

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) is the official law enforcement agency of the city of Jacksonville, Florida. The JSO is responsible for maintaining public safety and order in the city, as well as enforcing state and local laws. The agency employs over 3,500 sworn officers and civilian personnel who work tirelessly to protect the citizens of Jacksonville.

The JSO was established in 1968 when the city consolidated its various law enforcement agencies into a single entity. Since then, it has grown to become one of the largest sheriff's offices in Florida and one of the most respected law enforcement agencies in the country.

One of the key functions of the JSO is to provide emergency services to residents in need. This includes responding to calls for assistance from citizens who are experiencing a medical emergency or are victims of crime. The agency also provides support during natural disasters such as hurricanes or floods.

In addition to its emergency services, the JSO also works closely with community organizations and other government agencies to promote public safety and prevent crime. This includes partnering with schools to educate students about drug abuse prevention, working with businesses to improve security measures, and collaborating with other law enforcement agencies on joint investigations.

The JSO has a strong commitment to transparency and accountability. It maintains an open-door policy that allows citizens access to information about its operations and policies. Additionally, it has implemented numerous programs designed to build trust between law enforcement officers and members of minority communities.

One such program is called "Community Policing," which involves assigning officers specifically trained in community relations duties within specific neighborhoods throughout Jacksonville. These officers work closely with residents on issues ranging from quality-of-life concerns like noise complaints or littering all way up through serious crimes like drug trafficking or gang activity.

Another program that demonstrates this commitment is "Citizens Police Academy." This program offers civilians an opportunity learn more about how police departments operate by attending classes taught by experienced police officers on topics such as criminal investigations techniques used by detectives; traffic stops procedures; use-of-force policies; firearms training etcetera

Overall, The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) plays a vital role in ensuring public safety throughout Jacksonville while promoting transparency & accountability within their department through various programs & initiatives aimed at building trust between themselves & their communities they serve!
