We spent a long and relaxing weekend on Lopez Island, and never made it to the National Monument. However, we had a very relaxing time on Lopez Island. If you ever get a chance to visit, be prepared to wave at every passing vehicle, pedestrian, and bicyclist when you are driving around the island. We stayed at Spencer Spit State park and realized after the first day that there are no showers! Its a state park...it should have showers!...but no. Overall, it was great a weekend.

A pristine environment with a rich ecosystem of wildlife. Quaint towns with picturesque marinas are sprinkled with boats of all kinds, including ferries that make island hopping easy to do. So scenic and peaceful with lots of options for adventuring and restaurants for special occasions.

A must goto place to unwind. When out of town friends visit, take them there for a spectacular view of the blue Pacific ocean. Breath taking. They may get lucky and catch a glimpse of whales. I figured I'll must go to get away from it all and got lucky twice with whales. I didn't take the whale tours. Must watch them from overlooks using binoculars.

Stunning places abound. The sculpture garden surprised me by how many wonderfully exquisite pieces framed pleasantly within a field. Great place for family to romp and be exposed to art. The marina was also a pleasant experience with several places to dine. We were able to view several yachts at the open house. Alpaca and lavender farms plus a bit of history at English and American camps provide wonderous reasons to visit the islands.

Went with a group from Lummi Nation. To have a day of learning about the Orca Whale capturing, kidnapping and slaughter 50 years prior. And to support the release of Tokitae from her 50 years of captivity in Florida marine aquarium. She is the last surviving Orca of 40 that were taken from Penn Cove.

Absolutely love this easy to get to beach. Within minutes of the hustle and bustle of town you can be walking the shore line, relaxing with a book or checking out the most recent driftwood structures.

Great place, hikes were friendly, the surrounding islands and greenery of San Juan made for beautiful scenery, environment was quiet, a great place to get away to; the only problem would be a lack of supplies available on the island and parks, so go prepared.

A beautiful building which shows some of the rich history of lopez island. There are few people for the most in the monument and the town most times of the yrar, so you can view the building at your leisure. It's nestled near the center of the lopez island village, so you are close to food, and many shops and fun oddities. You can make a day of it and visit the surrounding area, or make a shor trip and just visit the national monument for a short time. A bonus is the people that live on the island, they are kind and courteous, they make the trip fun, and they are always are quick to explain anything you have a question, they very proud of there heritage and want to share it with off islanders.
