Hotel in central Edinburgh comfortable and well appointed rooms

We recently attended a work lunch for 130 people on Thursday 13th December and Natalie was fantastic to deal and looked after us so well. The concierge team were also fantastic at helping us with our raffle prizes. This is a great place to host lunches and events!

Great location ,good breakfast and incredible help from staff Nathan And Martin :) thanks again guys....I ll be back .

The trip to Scotland was a gift for my wife's birthday. I chose this hotel because of the position and the way it looks. The reception was very accommodating and the start was good. The room was massive but looking a bit dated, especially the bathroom. I chose a room with a view in order to offer my wife a nice experience. Unfortunately one of the windows had a damaged lock and wasn't closing properly. Luckily the curtains dampened the draft but didn't eliminated it.
All in all was acceptable but definitely wasn't what expected.

And to make the matter worse we had a not so nice experience: on our departure my wife left in the room a shawll scarf that had a sentimental value for her (a gift from her mother). The next day I immediately contacted the hotel to notify them and make arrangements for recovering the scarf. I was informed that nothing had been found in the room. After a couple of days I called again and there was still no sign of the scarf. Because we are sure the scarf was left in the room there is no other explanation but that it was found and kept by some body. I mentioned that to the person I spoke to from reception.
Next day I was contacted by Lis the lost and found and housekeeping manager who assured me that she will get to the bottom of this and will call me back in two days to let me know her findings.
Two weeks after still no call so I contacted the hotel again. That's when I found out that Lis was in a holiday and there was still no sign of my wife's scarf.

It's an unpleasant experience and something that wasn't expecting from a hotel with this prestige. Hence the reason for my low star review.

The hotel was great. Excellent staff. There was one problems. When the heating unit reached the desired temperature, it would make this noise when shutting off. It kept me up throughout the night. The staff was understanding and allowed a late check out so I could get some rest.

There is no parking at this hotel - I ve never stayed in a 5 star hotel without parking!!! The suggestion was to park in a parking garage a 30 minute walk away!!! If you have a car avoid this hotel at all costs

4 star hotel but should be 5 star. Staff here are wonderful. They treat you like royalty - no kidding. Friendly, helpful and courteous. Location is excellent also. Look no further if you're planning a trip to Edinburgh

Attended a ball at the principal hotel. The facilities were fantastic and the staff were very professional. The food was very good but the portions could have been a bit bigger.

Great hotel, the rooms are really spacious. You get a tuck box with treats in the room. And fresh milk in the fridge both of these really help make the place homely. The staff are friendly and very willing to go out of their way to help

A beautiful building with high standard accommodation.
The concierge desk for check in is manned by friendly and welcoming staff. A lovely old building and I especially liked the historic decor and the painting of Mary Queen of Scots.
Can t fault it for an overnight stay. Highly recommended.

Little time to make an assessment ... for the moment the reception staff very well and very friendly ... tomorrow will be another day ...

Very nice hotel, good location to visit Edinburgh. The room is a good size, well equipped although slippers would be appreciated with bathrobes. The air conditioning in the room was capricious.
Despite these small caveats, a nice Scottish experience, I recommend this hotel.

Nicer hotel in a great location but rooms were quite small. Barely room for two with suitcases to fit into the room and zero space in bathroom. Bed was a bit small too. That said the rooms were clean, modern, functional and in very good shape. Common areas were nice and service was very helpful. Didn't eat anything at hotel instead opting for numerous cafes and pubs a few minutes walk away.

Very well ... very well placed ... the bus tour to a stop right next door .... concierge very helpful and attentive ... decoration room breakfast beautiful

Absolutely beautiful hotel! Hotel staff are extremely welcoming and willing to attend to our every need. We visited for Christmas so everywhere was decorated to put you in the festive mood. Hotel was very clean and tidy and in a prime location. Located in the New Town with all the high street shops made Christmas shopping easy, but if you had enough of the hustle and fancied something different, Old Town was just a short 5 minutes walk away. The staff made our short Christmas stay at this hotel magical and we are already planning to visit again next year.

I attended as part of a large Christmas party group. It was very well organised, the food came quickly and still hot, and there was always staff on hand for drinks. Best service of a large party yet

I really like this hotel. First of all, the important attractions are all around, followed by the classic style of the hotel, the rooms are clean and elegant.

Gorgeous hotel, love the style. Rooms very well done. Staff were great and very attentive. Only criticism is the interconnected rooms. We had to request a new room as we were connected at either side and the other guests were extremely noisy. Thankfully the reception staff gave us a room upgrade on the top floor which was lovely!

Its stunning, Rooms, bed,staff are amazing. The tuck box in our room is a nice touch. The bed is so comfortable and the bar staff are so friendly and very informative on the area and different types of drinks.

The location of this hotel is great. The staff, however, is what makes this hotel truly phenomenal. Ansten is a treasure and took this 5 star stay and made it even better. He went out of this way to make sure we had everything we needed, and even sent up tea and fruit for my friend who got sick during our stay. I can t say enough positive things about him in particular. Thank you for an amazing experience, this will be the only place we stay when we return to Edinburgh.

Beautiful hotel, great location but definitely pricey

Lovely friendly hotel. The staff were excellent and couldnt do enough for you. The room we had was a suite and beautifully decorated. The breakfast was also excellent plenty of choice although the breakfast room was very busy. Even so we really didnt wait long for tea and toast which was served for us although the rest of the breakfast was self service. Our room was at the front of the hotel and the street was a little noisy but i have not marked the hotel down for this as it was our choice to stay in the middle of Edinburgh and it did not put me off staying here again as we had a lovely stay otherwise. The hotel was decorated for christmas and was very charming and festive. A good base for the christmas market , shops and Harry zpotter shops.

We were at a wedding it was a really great venue and staff were really lovely and helpful, it was well lit up outside with decorations and lights

We had a lovely few nights stay here! The staff were very friendly and the hotel had every amenity that you could ask for! The room was really well done and the bed was super comfy! Nothing was overpriced at the shop and and the staff were more then happy to arrange taxis and assist us when we wanted to go out! A 5 star experience!

Good location, nice bar, Tempus, and gorgeous old part of building. Newer part of hotel not as nice, so when booking, ask yo be out into the older part of the hotel.

We stayed here pretty much a week in June of 2017. Concierge, front staff and housekeeping agents are all amazing in doing their jobs helping the visitors to have a smooth stay. There is even a "turndown service" in the evening and we were wondering what that was! Found out it is a bed tucking service We never experienced that in our home Country of Canada so probably only offered in some high end hotels!! How special and cute that is especially for little ones would be fun surprise We only have everything great to say. Speaking of cultural shock coming from North America, we were expecting a large room for a very expensive hotel lol however we learned that Europe is a little different and space is very precious there eventhough we had the biggest and longest room in our wing. Thanks to all the staff members for giving us very memorable stay

Great location, friendly staff, can hear noise outside when in the junior suite but very large comfortable bed. Would highly recommend and will return.

The hotel has just been refurbished and is much brighter whilst keeping a very traditional feel. Everyone is very pleasant and helpful and the location is great.

Gorgeous lobby and very friendly, helpful staff. Stayed in a standard double and felt very small compared to other typical doubles. Bathroom also very small (door knocked against the bath) also didn t like the plastic shower curtain over the bath / shower. Lovely decor though and the extras (free snacks, morning papers) was a nice perk.

Elegant , classy and very comfortable . The staff we had the pleasure to engage with were friendly polite and a perfect fit for the perfect hotel. Making our stay all the more memorable .

Positives first, the door staff were always kind, they handled our baggage for us and upgraded us to their superior suite .
Now Negs. The walls are paper thin... you can hear everything... reception tried to charge a hefty price (nearly double) for the hot buffet breakfast & when we asked for clarification on pricing on the menu/what buffet included what, we were told that they do not discuss the prices. We only stayed 2 nights and would not stay again or recommend it to others.

Great location, but that's about as good as it gets. We arrived on a Sunday evening and the front desk staff kept us waiting for a long time to find our booking and sort out a room. The room itself was mediocre at best. Everything poorly laid out, e.g. a tiny TV miles away from the bed, and pretty drab decor. They still charge for wifi (who does that any more?) and the final touch was an iron chained to the ironing board, as if I'm going to run off with their iron. Just felt quite miserly.

Beautiful hotel with excellent service and well-mannered staff. We spent a weekend here with dinner Bed and breakfast. The Hotel was excellent and the staff were very friendly. The Breakfast was to die for. The service was excellent and the staff could not do more for you. Highly Recommended a lovely hotel in the Centre of Edinburgh.

Very warm reception area, with welcoming staff and a really classy layout. The attached restaurants and bars are really nice, with the self-serve breakfast being fresh and we'll prepared (especially the haggis & eggs).
The rooms are consistently clean, and you get complementary still and sparkling water, as well as snacks each morning (during housekeeping).
Overall our two nights were wonderful, and we would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to be near the city centre of Edinburgh.

Small minus for big parties you can hear the music in the room (3rd floor), not on the wake-up call the front desk left. Unfortunately this did not work for us ...

The hotel is lovely inside..we went for our anniversary on Saturday 28th march. Our room was miles away. An awful trek to get to. Looked at our view..it was horrendous. Trash bins all over the place. The noise of bottles getting thrown into the bins through the night then the bin lorries crashing about first thing in the morning. The room interior itself was fine but it was freezing.

Fabulous wedding venue. Stylish, great food, well organized staff. A really memorable experience.
