It is quite or double for the rooms. We were placed early in a room in between cramped floor. We refused and we got a room instead, but the front door was not isolated at all, and we could hear everything happening in the hallway. Other than that, the service is good and the location ideal.

The room is cozy but has lots of amenities including brewed coffee. Their shower fixture is the best in Scotland - you can control the water temperature (with other hotels your choice is very cold or hot).

My husband and myself just celebrated our Wedding Anniversary at The George Intercontinental in Edinburgh.
What a fabulous hotel, from the moment we walked in, the traditional Doorman greeting us the the friendly helpful reception.
Our room was exactly as we requested, it was lovely , clean fresh, all amenities needed.
The bed was huge a dream to sleep in.
We had an anniversary meal in the Printing Press Restaurant, service, atmosphere, and the quality of the food first class.
We were sorry to leave.... could have stayed longer. I highly recommend this fabulous hotel, and will gladly go back if visiting Edinburgh again
Thank you for a wonderful stay

Great central location, reasonably priced and very friendly and accommodating staff. Stayed during Christmas and very much satisfied with service, breakfast was absolutely beautiful, delivered to room for a very small charge which is fair. The late night meal could be slightly better quality wise but overall a good experience, will be happy to return!

Location of the hotel was right in the middle of town, couldn't be any better. The rooms were nice and clean, the concierge was very helpful when asked questions about the city. Highly recommend it.

Ideal location. People are smiling. However a lack of reaction on their part during a blackout in several rooms that resulted in water cuts ...
Regarding breakfast: for coffee it would be nice to leave a carafe on the table!

Really nice and very centrally located Edinburgh hotel. A little expensive considering the smallish rooms and beds. But compensated by high quality fixtures and fittings and very reasonably priced and delicious room service breakfast (if they had hotboxes to keep it that little bit warmer it would have probably pushed me to a five star rating).

Definitely worth considering if comfort and centrality are priorities.

I waited over 30 minutes for a vegetarian breakfast from the time I ordered it (I actually sat down 10 mins earlier). I asked the waiter to cancle the order in the end it was very painful waiting over 30 mins for a couple of fried eggs, beans, etc... 20 mins in and I had reminded the waiter, the waiter said it was on its way, he didnt offer me anything else in the meantime to ease my pain while I waited. Even though I didn't have breakfast we were still charged for it. No body offered any refunds, no body really cared.
I was there with my 4 year old son and partner in room 266, the window does not shut properly and the room was very noisy till very late as its during the Edinburgh festival.
Thr 2nd double bed was actually a sofa bed, which was very sloppy, it was not completely flat like a normal bed.
On the plus side the reception staff we're very friendly from every interaction we had with them.
The location was decent.
This hotel was not our first choice but because of the festival most hotles were fully booked.
The restraunt team, the window in our room and the sloppy sofa bed let this hotel down.

Beautiful building inside & out, most of the staff were friendly, one in particular at the breakfast serving looked like she didn't want to be there or deal with us.Martin the concierge was great, as were the rest of the concierge team, couldn't do enough for us. The receptionists were very friendly & helpful. The family room was nice but the bathroom was tiny for a family room. Was disappointed with that. But it was a cosy stay.

Very attentive and friendly staff, lovely interiors, and very classy. 24 hour reception complete with a tuck shop for midnight chocolate cravings or emergency toothpaste was very handy! Would definitely stay again. Location was brilliant too, and the views from the room were gorgeous!

From the moment you enter the hotel the staff couldn't do more for you. The hotel looked really classy and posh and all the staff look happy and are very hard working!
Couldn't find any faults what so ever. It's located near shops and bars but not too near that you are kept awake, the rooms are lovely and modern, the breakfasts are great, the views out of the rooms are decent, the facilities are great. It is also a wedding venue which looks brilliant!
A member of staff even took the time to draw me and my partner a map to find our way to a restaurant and then after knowing we were going the Edinburgh castle, gave us both a bottle of water and a pack of mints to take up there!
They also have lifts to the rooms and on our last day after checking out, they let us leave our bags there so we could enjoy the rest of the day there before collecting them before we headed back home.
Personally, I believe although its not the cheapest, its great value for money and deserves a great review!

The George has always been one of our most favourite hotels. Great central location with the only drawback to that being the parking issue.
Service is always good, but some bedrooms are better than others. It has at times felt like a bit of a lottery when it comes to what room you end up in. Some are excellent, some less so.
Love the breakfast but have seldom eaten dinner in here. Too much choice in town I guess.

This is an exemplary hotel. Among the very best at which I have stayed in the British Isles. Every detail is choreographed and perfected. Customer service is on a level unparalleled in British hospitality. The rooms are cosy, characterful and perfectly appointed. Breakfast is a triumph, and the location cannot be beaten in Edinburgh. I would recommend the Principal George Street to anyone.

Such a beautiful venue. The staff were very good, on point and was very helpful. The event was held in the massive venue Hall on the ground floor, had a beautiful centre decoration on the ceiling above. The night itself went so well and the food was amazing.

The suite was large, well appointed, and very comfy!! It was noisy, we kept hearing a door open and close loudly. And we would feel the vibtation of the closing door, we never got an answer on what exactly it was. Most times we would get requested items super quick - though they did forget tea and a mug (we had 3 ppl in the room - would have been great if the room had all stuff for 3 since you pay about $70 extra). They were there to set up the bed right we checked in, extremely early and that was excellent! Concierge assisted us as we moved rooms though the front desk/concierge called twice and we had housekeeping knock on the door to ask when we were moving. The tuck box amenities were delish. You don't/I didn't get any perks whatsoever for being Platinum Elite minus the 2PM checkout (unless I missed something). I would probably stay there again, though there were other options nearby. It was a prime location for Hogmanay and plenty to eat and visit nearby.

Short break in Edinburgh and The Principal ticked all the boxes. A one night trip to Edinburgh was made perfect by staying at The Principal, close to more restaurants than you can shake a stick at a 5min walk to Princes St and all that has to offer as well. Joining the Applause membership program is beneficial as this gives you a late check out and includes breakfast in the room rate. A thoroughly enjoyable experience enhanced by the super attentive and cordial staff.

Terrible. Used to stay here when it was the George. Why lose the identity of the place and change the name to the Principal.. terrible name.

At 5Pm on a Saturday the bar fridges were empty, ran out of bottled beer. Who ever is in charge of stocking the bar (simple job) needs firing. Poor show. Food was terrible as well, even a mac n cheese was so tasteless it must have taken real effort to screw this up, kids make this at school, who serves mac n cheese without breadcrumbs.

Waiting staff were great so pleasant and kept apologising for poor food and drinks.

I wasn't a guest at the hotel, I just came in for drinks and dinner. They let us take our dog in the bar, but not in the restaurant. Oysters were big and bouncy and fresh. Smoked haggis was soft and powerfully smoky. Scallops were beautifully cooked. Chips were a little uncooked and cold inside, and lacked flavour they could have got by cooking in dripping or lard or duck fat. But steak was cooked precisely, nice bite on the decent priced hanger steak (onglet) and the bone marrow gravy had big lumps of bone marrow in it. Yum! Good beers on the menu too.
