GREAT PEACEFUL PLACE FANTASTIC SOUND BATH EVERY SAT AFTERNOON BEEN AWAY DUE TO TEMPORARY PROBLEMS WITH MY FEET CAN HARDLY WAIT TO GET DOWN ON THE MAT AND EXPERIENCE ONCE AGAIN THE HEALING BALM OF THE SOUNDS COMING FROM THE TRADITIONAL INSTRUMENTS. NAMASTE
Amazing experience, great teachers and environment. Good vibes. Always walk out feeling at peace and relaxed.
Always a great vibe!
Beautifully remodeled with borrow bottles and a brand new Brita filtered water fountain.
I love their community class and the karma class for 7$.
Plenty of street parking.
Old school health food store. No crap, just real food. No organic Oreo like cookies like the Whole Foods monster that put most places out of business.. Only organic produce. Packaged, refrigerated, frozen products. A good bulk section including some spices and miso (they already packed for you). You can get some stuff for less other places, but here it's all in one place, except the books next door and supplements across the street.
I've patronized the Integral Yoga Institute (IYI) facilities for over 30 years. The IYI is a national treasure that has continually provided spiritual guidance in the wake of the materialistic avalanches of New York City and beyond. The IYI is as vital as air in the human struggle not to succumb to the enticements of unbridled materialism. Calm, compassion, honor, respect, service, humor and intelligence are some of the many gifts that IYI generously provides to those visiting it. The IYI comes amazingly close to being a buddha in institutional form.
Needed some flow yoga to get rid of my jet lag flying in from Oz.
So many options for spiritial practice, I've tried meditation, yoga, and kirtan, and will be going to satsang next! High quality offerings that help ground and awaken my heart and mind to alignment. There is a reason it is such an institution.
I like that the teachers create an open space for me to practice - they don't put their judgments of what I should or should not be able to do. I like the opportunity to graceful explore my own boundaries while being supported to not strain. In a world were we are taught to strive, push boundaries, keep going through the pain, this is a counterbalance and as a busy New Yorker, I appreciate this!
Arguably one of the most LOVED places on Earth. Integral Yoga maintains the beautiful practice taught by Swami Satchidananda. There isn't much I can say aside from what the website could tell you- if anything written there resonates with you then I recommend you opening your heart to Integral!
I began at Integral through karmic service, went to workshops, and then finally took a class. I slowly exposed myself to what I could receive from Integral and I'm grateful that I did because I've built a new sense of who I am within myself during my time spent here. It's easy to build a community in a place so accepting!
Being someone who practices hot yoga roughly twice per week for a loooong time, I figured I could jump right into Integral Yoga Institute class (thanks to ClassPass). Well, not really. While the entire experience was a solid one, it certainly had a few bumps along the way.
Good experience, very chill vibe. Great yoga classes, good teachers. Highly recommend.
I have been practicing yoga at IYI off and on (sometimes with very long stretches in between) for over 15 years. I have taken yoga classes many other places and always come back here. The instructors are nearly all of very high caliber and the physical environment is very conducive to a positive experience. There is generally a nice balance between picking apart the intention behind the postures and keeping things moving. It is true, as some reviews have stated, that the offerings are not of the absolute most vigorous and athletic variety. However, if you are seeking to tone your mind and spirit along with your body, this is a great place. IYI is one of the only places in this city where I have been able to experience a true respite. Thank you for being there. I hope you always are.
Very friendly and helpful staff in the store and everywhere in the studio. Great energy and beautiful layout, draws a diverse group of people and has good roots in the community. Nice place to volunteer, take a class or just stop by to browse at the shop offerings
Integral yoga is the best yoga ever. Focused on spirituality and connecting to yourself. It s not like other NYC studios that focus on cardio. This is a very personal and healing style of yoga. Love it
Really mild beginner's yoga - even the most advanced classes are quite slow. This makes it accessible to people of all ages, levels, and abilities. But to practice here you have to really understand the mental challenges of yoga - you will need to practice patience. I mean, really slow. Physical fitness is last on the agenda here - it is much more about connecting mind with body and taking each pose very carefully and gently.
They have a very set method that opens and closes the same way with each instructor. This involves chanting in Sanskrit (everyone else seemed to know the mantras) and eye yoga. Overall a good experience but wouldn't satisfy my longer-term expectations of staying in shape through yoga.
Excellent. I bought beautiful beets and I wondered out loud to the young woman as the cash register what do I do with the dark green leafy part which looks stunning and I felt lost -- only at Integral Yoga in NYC would you get such a loving response -- loving towards the beets and the green part and towards a human in this case me! She recommended several different ideas on how to use the beautiful green part.
Manu Dawson is there on Wednesday later afternoons to give insight, thoughts and ideas and health. I have known Manu for I am guessing 33 or 34 years. Great guy, very intelligent, insightful, compassionate and kind.
I also checked with the "deli" counter which serves vegan and veg and asked if their soups are oil free and they are!
Excellent place and kind sweet staff members!!!!!!!!
If you are considering Yoga Teacher Training with Integral Yoga Institute please note my experience:
I filled out the application and provided references, two of my favorite yoga teachers; then after a few phone calls i scheduled an interview with Rashmi, one of the two main teachers.
I interviewed with Rashmi for perhaps 45minutes maybe a little more and she recommended that I take a class at Integral before she made a decision. I took level 1 class that evening and I got an email saying that i was admitted a few days later.
The next sessions met on the following Saturday 10-6 and Sunday 10-6. these were eventful informative and chock full of information and activity. In the chanting session, I was partnered with a strong chanter to work with me because my chanting was weak. All good.
On Monday September 18,2017, Ii took a level 1 class at 4;30pm and was scheduled to attend the first anatomy portion of the Teacher Training at 6.
Kali and Rashmi were waiting to speak to me after the level 1class and we went into an empty yoga room; Kali informed me that they (Kali and Rashmi) had decided to "withdraw me from the program" I was stunned! They refunded my money and sent me on my way.
After a good cry in my husbands arms, wondering what i had done wrong.. I sent them an email asking humbly "is there a lesson here for me" "and did they tell the class that I'd left not by my my choice" they responded"Dear Odella, We immediately informed the class that we had made the decision to withdraw you from the program. In response to your question about a lesson for you ,we would say ,it is always important to realize that the universe is giving us what we need.Sometimes what we need is not always what we want.." No indication whatsoever that i had done anything wrong! Basically they just didn't like me and there was no reason to be around me if they didn't want to.
I responded by saying that in response to their solicitation of feedback from the class as to ways to improve the program i suggested "they include compassion in their treatment of their students. From kindergarten to graduate school there is no instance where a student is expelled without warning or reason (absent violence or plagiarism )its the compassionate thing for a teacher entrusted with the mind ,hear, and spirit of a student to treat that student with compassion and care. A kind teacher give a student a hand up and a great teacher appreciates her students and their feelings.
Instead they treated me with callous contempt for my feelings as a fellow human being.
Later i got an email basically saying that their experience shows that if they warn a student then they have to contend with anger so they have devised this method of blindsiding them to avoid such a thing. Kali in particular seemed proud of this, by way of defense when she expelled me she noted that i wasn't the first that she did this too. Well i hope i am the last!!
When i got this second email i responded that what I had realized is that I was the only African American person in the class and apparently that was one too many. Since i still do not have one single clue as to why the expelled me , that is the only conclusion to be drawn. There are few African American yoga Teachers and i trust that none have been certified through Integral and now i know why..
They seem to be firm in their policy of not giving a reason or a warning and i suggested that they state that policy in the application because as it stands they ask a commitment from the student of heart, mind, body, time and money yet their commitment only extends until they go in the bathroom and do some whispering and come out with a decision that you're not "right for the club". Mean Girls in grown up bodies and in charge.
So if you are considering Teacher Training at Integral yoga ask a LOT of questions before committing your precious and vulnerable heart.
And if you're considering Yoga Teacher training and you don't want any Black people in your class this is the one for you.

I've been coming to Integral Yoga for years. I feel they have remained
true to the original ideal of Yoga - creating a balance between
body, mind and spirit which is what I certainly need. I find it a warm
and accepting oasis in the heart of NYC, not to mention all the
workshops, on health, spirituality, nutrition with amazing instructors.
Great natural food store and apothecary across the street.
So glad you are all there.!
Took an incredible class on zoom. It was a great combination of physical, mental and spiritual work. The teacher was extremely knowledgeable and I really enjoyed the class. I have been doing yoga for 20+years and it was one of the best classes I have ever taken. Thank you IYI for such a great class.
