Illegal Pete's Review

Illegal Pete s is good but certain establishments are always dirty. From the food line to the dining area. This wasn t one of their better locations. It so busy & packed with College students the staff seems not to have the time to wipe down their work food stations or clean a table. Disappointed

Politically charged fast-casual Mexican restaurant. Food is absolutely amazing

A long line, but well worth it. The food is delicious and reasonably priced.

This place rocks! Great prices for huge burritos, good margaritas, cool vibe, locals and tourists alike. Bartenders rock and the music was awesome!

Great burritos and an awesome deal where you can get free guac if you don't get any dairy.

Favorite place for a quick lunch in Boulder. The "kids size" burrito bowl is the perfect amount of food for me! Also love the pesto sauce!!

I have to say that I actually really love this place! the only thing they could do to make me love them more is to have spinach, honey wheat, and jalapeno cheddar jumbo tortillas.
Aside from that, it's pretty great and open later than any place in Boulder! my dude and I came in for burrito bowls. the steak was great, with cilantro lime rice and black beans. they can make it plain or with all the fixin's. guac, pico, sour cream, cheese etc. They even have chips+queso! which basically no one in Colorado knows what that even means!!!(queso is an art, and I'm not talking fundido!) we got both bowls for like $18 something, which was a decent price for two people. we now have an official late night snack spot!

I visit this place regularly since it is near my work and cheapest place around with really good queso!

Baja fish tacos are TO DIE FOR! Every time I'm in Colorado I get one (or two)

Been here a thousand times and keep coming back. This place is way better than Chipotle and Qdoba. Not just in quality of ingredients but their ratio's are always spot on. To make it better they also mix the burrito up before they wrap it. Plus they're on walking Pearl. What more do ya need.

If you go to order a vegan burrito be prepared to break the arm of the incompetent puke that is making your burrito. For the same price as a burrito with meat and cheese you can get a vegan burrito with nothing in it.

Favorite Boulder Pearl Street place. Big Burrito place. Excellent tacos. Priced right.

You can t really go wrong here! I ve eaten here a number of times now and I ve never had a bad experience. You can choose exactly how you want your food made. Sometimes I think the burritos and tacos could be hotter but it s kinda hard to help that since so many other toppings are added. If you want the most bang for your buck go with the burrito. Fish is excellent but be prepared to wait a little while for it to come out since they fry it up fresh.

The store is very clean and the staff are wonderful. Service is fast and the food is great.

50% of the time the main ingredients are cold to luke warm at best. The food is good though thats my only negative critique and its made fast. The bar is small but pretty friendly as well.

Ate breakfast here just after opening. Ordered breakfast burritos and they were good. The eggs and potatoes were only warm and a little soft, not crispy. I would order them again but would ask for hotter and crispier ingredients to my preference. The sauces were tasty and the service was fast and friendly.

Huge burritos. Order a junior size if you want a sensible portion.

Just say "sub guac" to get guacamole on your burrito for free instead of cheese and sour cream!

I try to go for "lunch" and I've always left happy and timely. Honestly the staff is more friendly than most of the general population and the location has good personality

Hands down the best cheap burrito/taco in boulder. Service is always fast, even when there's a line out the door. They have a great selection of alcoholic beverages as well.

Relaxed place for custom tacos, burritos, bowls & more!

I have been coming to this illegal Pete s for 8 years and am so sad at how the staff has changed. I ve always been close with the staff but over the last few months there was a big turnover in staff and now I ve had so many bad experiences!! I was helped by 4 people tonight and every single one was rude, the cashier even argued with me about what I got and one of the staff yelled at my partner because he couldnt hear. Really hope there are improvements soon!!

Came in ordered 3 burritos and 2 cheese quesadillas for our youngest kids... our oldest kid finished her burrito and we sat and waited. They fit busy so we were trying not to make a fuss thinking they would call our name in a second and trying to be patient. Finally after someone else who had just sat down got their quesadilla my husband approached the counter and waited another five minutes to even ask the girl at register about our quesadilkas... she said let me check, went back, came back up and said they are on their way... no apology for the wait. We waited another 10 minutes before they clearly just got made.... 30 minutes in total for 2 kids quesadillas missing the sour cream and not one apology.

The food is wonderful and most of the staff was friendly! I really enjoyed my meal and the ambiance was wonderful, the only thing that made my visit less then pleasurable was the girl working the register around 730 on Friday night. She cleaned a dish above my food, walked away from the register as I was ready to pay, and was non stop talking poorly about what I understood to be management and coworkers while ignoring myself and other customers. At one point during my meal she and a coworker walked off the line to continue talking poorly about their coworkers.

Don t get me wrong, I ve worked in places where the staff upsets me, but I make sure the customers experiences isn t made worse by my attitude and I believe that it s an important lesson to learn.

Also thought this whole exchange management did not seem to be present or aware of the poor service by the front of house.

Good food, but confused staff. It was a busy lunch hour, but school is out so it wasn't 'too' crazy, may be newer staff? Not sure... Got orders wrong initially, had to cut back in line to get order correct.

Stopped here during a quick visit to Boulder. Loved the fish tacos and the beer selection was great.

I had fun coming here with my wife on Cinco de Mayo. Of course, they were crowded for Happy Hour but the bartender was awesome (making some strong margaritas!) We got happy hour prices, even after happy hour. Score!

You can't get fish at the national burrito chain stores. Come to Illegal Pete's for the fish (and the other good stuff)

Fast, prompt service. Illegal Pete's is always consistent no matter which location. The staff is super nice and accommodating. Their breakfast is definitely underrated. I highly recommend if you haven't tried this fine establishment.

So much better than Chipotle! There is always a line but it moves really fast so don't be deterred. They have a good happy hour and a special if you have a ticket for a show or game that evening.

Had the Baja burrito last time it it was OK. Really liked the beef burrito.

A friend & I were stopping by this place to get our late dinner. It was Ok!! I got a burrito bowl. This was 1st visit at Illegal Pete's. I didn't realize that it similar to Chipotle or Qdoba. Overall, it an OK place to hangout.

Food is gross, server took her finger and spread the sour cream in my messy burrito in front of me, never go there again.

Decent food, open late. Food could use a little enhancement, better flavor, or fresher ingredients, or both.

In 10 years I have eaten at Illegal Pete's at least 500 times. I sit down, eat a burrito, and still wonder "how could this still taste so good?" So do yourself a favor, come here on a sunny afternoon, and soak up the experience that this institution of Boulder has to offer. (I recommend the fish burrito)

I tried the beer battered fish burrito. It was a good sized burrito that came with free guacamole. I was allowed to switch rice and beans for roasted veggies. Service was awesome! Burrito was yummy. I'll come back.

Best burritos I've ever had. Their seasoning on all their proteins is what cuts Pete's above all other fast burrito joints. And they are fast. Even when the line's out the door, I get my food in less than 10 minutes. And they serve booze...can't get that at Chipotle or Qdoba.

We decided to eat at illegal Pete's when we visited boulder (denver locals). We had friends visiting from out of town so we were raving about illegal Pete's to them and had to stop for breakfast burritos (it was our 1st time going to boulder illegal petes). When my boyfriend ordered his breakfast burrito ahead of me, the man behind the counter asked "what kind of rice" so my boyfriend repeated that he wanted a breakfast burrito. The man behind the counter replied "so what do you want on it". So clearly this man had no idea what is supposed to go into a breakfast burrito. Then when he was making my burrito he wiped his nose with his gloved hand and then continued to make my burrito. I told him I saw him wipe his nose and I did not want that buritto. He apologized and went to change his gloves. But at that point, I cant eat there because how many other times did he do that but did not get caught. I was with a party of 5 and we all decided not to eat there. We will never return to this illegal Pete's in boulder.

This place is delicious. Best burritos in town. I also really love the tacos! Since we tried this place, we have eaten here at least once a week. It s just too good to resist. The queso is totally worth getting.

The food is good at a reasonable price which ironically why I didn't give them 5 stars: they were so busy on this mid July Sunday that the wait in line was pretty long, they were out of a couple menu items, and when we sat down I kept getting brushed by patrons trying to squeeze thru the jam packed dining room. But looking on the positive the popularity of the restaurant caused those conditions so you know the food is good. Also if you go don't go at peak lunch hour during the peak vacation season but go before or after the main lunch rush. Employees were friendly and helpful in spite of the rush.
