Hymie s is a Bala Cynwyd landmark.

Hymie s is a Bala Cynwyd landmark.
It is an exceptional Jewish Deli with all of the usual delicious offerings.
The milk shakes are old school real deal shakes made with milk and real ice cream.
At $5, they are a steal.
The chicken matzo ball soup is better than Mother s!
The rye bread is made in house.
The corned beef is so lean and tender.
There is a complimentary small salad/pickle bar included with your meal.
If you don t want a doggy bag, try the half sandwich with soup. A good value and a manageable portion.
Get a regular sandwich and save half for dinner that evening or lunch the next day.
Very good homemade potato salad at the free salad bar.
Excellent LaColombe coffee compliments the extensive dessert menu.
Try the cheesecake or the black and white cake.
Staff friendly, inside needs updating.
Restrooms should be redone as they are a bit tired and could be tidied up a bit.
Inside space is tight.
They should consider finding a larger space
with more modern interior.
They do have metered parking in rear.
The venue does not live up to the food.
It is still worth a trip to taste and enjoy some of the best Jewish comfort food in the Philly region!

So on request of owner and appreciating the response on my comment/review, i re visited the place today and ordered Buffalo Chicken Cheese steak for lunch, definately it was fresh way better then what i had earlier. Flavor was there and very well served. I think it was a bad first day i had but second visit has changed my opinion of this place.

Great food for Meat Lovers.

This was what i written earlier:-

Visited for dinner to go, not many options for vegetarians, ordered roasted vegetable panini which turned out to be broccoli and cheese wrapped in a hoagie sandwich, fries on the side were extremely soggy, .

Chicken cheese steak that was my other order was too much dry and bland.

Not a good experience....

It s a Jewish Deli. It s what you expect but not a good version of it. The latkes were terrible. Any Jewish deli in NYC is better or you make it better from a box or scratch at home. I don t know how you can make bad matzah ball soup. But Id rather have a Jewish deli around than not have one.

I love a real jewish deli. This has it all from the amazing dessert case, to the extensive pickle bar. I'm hoping it was an off day for the soup, because that was the only thing stopping this from being a 5 star review. It was REALLY bland.

The menu is huge so there are a lot of options. Breakfast is served all day, perfect for anyone with a breakfast food craving. The portions are huge and delicious, I've never had a bad meal. There is a free pickle bar that also has pasta and potato salad. The desserts are perfect for sharing and they are incredible. Hymies is easily my favorite deli/diner in the area.

The pastrami sandwich was stacked high with Swiss cheese between the pastrami, and to slices of rye bread. My issue was not with the food; I felt was being rushed out of there. Once my food arrived, the waitress placed my check on the table, I thought that was a little odd.

great Corn Beef Specials and plenty of pickles from the pickle bat. But the best thing there is definitely the Blintzes. They come with sour cream or a cherry jam to dip them in, go with the cherry.

Ordered the Reuben sandwich with fries. The waitress whose name I didn't get brought me a sandwich that look like ish on a shingle. I never got the fries. The toast was black around the edges and the sandwich cost me $12.79. I've been to hymie's several times and this is the worst sandwich I have ever gotten. That waitress knows what that sandwich should have looked like yet she chose to serve it to me. I didn't send it back because if I'm not satisfied with food I don't send it back because anything can happen to that food before it gets back to you. I am done with hymie's.

Yesterday on Monday afternoon my sister myself and her sister in law were at Hymies for lunch. After being seated what happened next was truely unexpected. A car driven by an elderly man crashed into the front of the restaurant. It broke the outside gas line. What could have had disastrous results ended with every patron being safely led out of the back of the restaurant with no physical harm to anyone although we all were visibly shaken this was due only to the calm direction of the onsite manager on duty. I'm so sorry I didn't get his name but I am sure every patron is truely grateful to him!!! I'm not sure when I will be able to dine at my favorite spot right away as I suffer anxiety episodes when I think of this incident. Hopefully in time that will heal and I'll return to my favorite spot to enjoy the deliciously prepared foods!!! To the manager that day you deserve the medal of Valor!!!!

It's very frustrating ordering for a group of people with specific instructions regarding modification. This restaurant always seems to either add the wrong ingredient or take away another when ordered specific. I always seem to have at least one mistake with my orders. Hopefully the line cooks start actually checking orders so they are not constantly messing up!

Great food but the service can be a little hit or miss, especially when it is busy. Seemed like they were trying to turn over the tables, which I understand, but the wait staff shouldn't be dropping off a check without asking if the customers want any other food. Still would come back because the food is amazing.

I ve been going to Murray s for a few years now and they were closed so thought I d try hymies again. Now I know why I left in the first place. The service is just miserable. Like I m doing them a favor eating there. Food is average and overpriced. Back to Murray s for me

Always delicious food from large menu. I especially like lox and bagels (fresh and delicious) and hot pastrami on rye, generous servings. Though often busy, service is fast, worth a little wait.

The food is good deli food. In the deli tradition, the portions are large, the flavors are bold. They go out of their way to add Jewish standards to the menu, but do not be fooled this is not a kosher place. We asked the first time we went in, the waitress was confused and gave a half hearted yes, but one look at the menu and you will see it is not kosher. But it is good.

The service is hit or miss. Food can be slow, service sometimes takes a long time for what seems like no reason (not overly busy, no unusual drink or food orders).

Overall a good place, and one I keep going back to.

As a devout conservative Jew and Jewish cuisine officianado, I would like to state as fact that Hymie s is a disgrace to my religion and culture. The highlight of my experience was my piss water coffee. If you are delighted by large portions, then I d suggest eating the garbage that s dumped in a pig trough, before eating here. The soup was cold. The matzah balls had no hint of matzah meal, and the latkes leaked an unidentifiable ooze. While the turkey on my sandwich was fresh, the accoutrements were sickly looking and the bread insufficient to hold the sandwich contents. Do yourself a favor and avoid this money trap.

Been enjoying the nicest, cleanest Jewish Deli EVER!!!
From the city, where most have disappeared, or moved.. but knew them all well... In Kensington, Northeast, Oak Lane/Mt. Airy, Downtown, etc.
Wonderful smiling workers, too, making the trip worthwhile...added to the great Corned Beef Special, Pastrami on great Rye, with a nice Picked Bar with very tasty Macaroni AND Potato Salad!!!....Health Salad, Pickled Green tomatoes and great variety of Kosher pickles!!!
Thank you for keeping up the traditional Jewish Deli Aura.

They're amazing! Pickle/(Mayo) Salads bar to munch while you wait...enormous, delicious deli sandwiches...great diner breakfast...enough said. I am in no way associated with them--just love it.

I've been eating at Hymie's for over 25 years. Their food is really good, but not as good as it used to be back in the day. Today, I had the Reuben. It was over-stuffed with delicious corned beef and was great. Enjoyed the pickle bar and also has potato salad, macaroni salad, and Cole slaw.
