The staff goes above and beyond to help a patient ...

The staff goes above and beyond to help a patient they take their time in reviewing a patients results but they also dig into the patients symptoms to find the way to cure or help the results to get better instead of worse. The staff is so amazing they have made patients happy with examining further than other hospitals. The staff is never sitting on their phones or on the computers they are always moving around to the patients and checking up on them. House keeping is always on top of cleaning and making the emergency department look amazing! The friendliness, cleanest, and most caring hospital ever.

I feel compelled to write this review because I see so many reviews in stunning contrast with my excellent experience last night. Without boring you with all the details, I was extremely impressed with my experience.

From the receptionist, to taking vitals, to the nurse in the room, to Dr. Christiansen himself- all services rendered were prompt, patient, extremely sympathetic, and on point. Precautionary tests were run, a detailed diagnosis was given, and much needed medication was given on the spot and in a script for later. Billing and paperwork was completely painless and the receptionist sent me into the medical process before making me jump through all the signatures, coming around later to finish it all up.

My only other hospital experience is with the very-highly recognized Valley Hospital in northern NJ that I know possesses numerous recognitions including the magnet designation for nursing. I do not know if Hunterdon Medical Center has received similar rewards, but based on my experience last night I believe it should. I could not have realistically asked for more.

You never want to need to go to the hospital, but it is comforting to know that this excellent facility is minutes from my home in Lebanon. Thank you Hunterdon!

I would give 0 stars if I could. I gave birth here and was held down while given the epidural even though I told the nurse I needed them to wait because I was having an anxiety attack. They ruined my birth experience. They called social services on me for a false positive urine test even though my blood test and my son came back clean. They traumatized me, they made me seem crazy for being upset over them calling CPS for no reason. The hospitals social worker didn t even speak with me. They are unprofessional, rude, I compassionate, and a year later I still feel robbed of what should of been the most beautiful day of my life. Also; they offered me pain meds to sleep through contractions and then questioned why I accepted the medication they offered me, like it was a test or something.

Recently, I had to pick up a client who has M.S. (Muscular Dystrophy) from testing at the hospital. Out front, they were setting up for their tree lighting event. I was not permitted to park up front because it blocked the cameras. My consumer had to walk down to the other side without the assistance of a walker or wheelchair.
They cared more for publicity than patients.
Shame on you, Hunterdon Medical Center.

ER visit with left lower back and left lower flank...

ER visit with left lower back and left lower flank. Extremely painfull (10/10 pain scale). As soon as I walked in... i was told to see someone.
i gave my info the best i can...they rushed me to the bio stat folks who were very quick and sympathaetic to my pain... they rushed me to see the doctor.
the first doctor was a PA who asked me more questions...and told me they would be giving me pain med. the first nurse saw me 5 min after and hooked me up with pain meds. the pain med was ok...after 20 min, the pain worsened...after telling them that...5 min later they changed my pain med and gave me a shot...it immediately got better but not enough...i complained again..and this time the ER MD came by and gave up'ed my dosage to the same pain med...and that worked...
not sure what happened there... but at the same time, he ordered a CT scan that showed a kidney stone...
so in the end...this place doesn't look too busy which means you'll be seen quickly, the staff is really nice and caring...but not sure why the pain meds did not work right away... maybe because of low dosage??? some doctors like to work like that.. they don't want to give alot of pain meds right away...???
so that is why i give this place a 4 and not a 5.

Unhappy with billing from labor and delivery depar...

Unhappy with billing from labor and delivery department, even though baby stayed in the same room with mother after birth, the room and board charges are doubled, by billing the same thing separately for mother and baby. So even an uncomplicated vaginal delivery is very expensive at this hospital.

Released and still can't breathe. Food menu wad horrible and then when I was told I was being released, I was encouraged to order dinner because it would take a while. I waited 1 hour for dinner then was told I could not habe it because I was being discharged. They have me a turkey sandwich instead. I am leaving g still sick with no answers and now I have to stop for fast food on a low salt diabetic diet. Big mac, large fry, milkshake here I come.

I have been to this place multiple times. I can not tell you how horrific every single experience has been. The only reason is for EMERGENCY and because it is close. I will never come here again. The front ER staff is absolutely terribly rude. Especially in stressful situation, you should know your job and to be kind to others. Not tell them to shut up and sit down. This old woman with red eyebrows and glasses was absolutely horribly rude to me. Not just once but on multiple occasions. I am going to be making a lot of calls. Just absolutely disrespectful it made me cry, when I was already nervous for my family s life. No wonder this hospital has two stars. I would rate it zero if I could. If anyone here knew my family they would be kind. They would know we are selfless people here just looking out for a person that we deeply love. And for PATTY at the front desk to be so disrespectful, just breaks my heart. Not only for my family but for other people in scary situations. This is not the first time Patty has been horribly rude. The nurses are sweet. The security staff was just amazing. In the situation of needing to know where a loved one was, they did not tell me to move over and keep my mouth shut... the woman with blue eyes and brown hair was just so incredibly kind. She helped keep the situation calm and spoke to me and my family so kindly I can t get over it! It s so easy to be rude, but it takes a real person with a kind heart who deserves to be recognized. Not this horrible mean person. And I genuinely love people. Patty was just disgraceful. Nurse Matt was so incredible!!!!!!!!

My parents have been here for cancer treatment on multiple occasions. The doctors and nurses are amazing. All very friendly and attentive. They make you feel important and are always pleasant. My father would give this place a millions stars if he could and so would I. They treated my parents very well at HMC.

I m also currently in the maternity unit with my wife and first born son. I cannot day enough about how amazing the nurses and doctors here are. I never feel rushed when talking to a doctor or nurse. Not only do they take their time but they are all an absolute pleasure to be around. Even the resident nurses and doctors. They have all made us feel like family. The doctor who delivered our son pushed his appointments back at the family practice he works at because my wife lost more blood than expected. Even while stitching her up he stayed calm and told us how great he did (while he was virtually saving my wife s life). Before he left he again told us we did great but he had to leave because he had appointments at the family practice. Then he stopped, walked towards her and said one more thing and checked on something else before he left. The nurses and doctors here care and they make you feel like family in my opinion. I ve been here a lot with my parents and now my wife and son. No place is perfect - hence some of the bad reviews - but my family has had nothing but positive results from this place. Love it here. And that s saying something b/c almost nobody comes to a hospital for a good reason. 5 Stars isn t bright to describe how great it is here.

I drove over and hour to have my gallbladder remov...

I drove over and hour to have my gallbladder removed at Hunterdon because of the care I received during my only other surgery 15 years ago. I was still very nervous, but from the day of my pre-op evaluation until I was helped into my car home, every single person met me with kindness, empathy, and reassurance that everything would be okay. The day of my surgery my surgeon Dr. Bello sat with me and my family and explained exactly what he was going to do, and what to expect post surgery both in the hospital and after. He made sure my family knew how to help me feel better so I wouldn t have to think about it. The Surgical nurses each came and introduced themselves and were so kind. I told one how nervous I was and she held my hand and looked me in the eyes and told me she d be there with me, and everything would be okay- and I believed her. The anesthesiologist was clear and listened to my concerns about nausea and promised he d do everything he could to help me feel comfortable. Once I was out of surgery, the recovery team gave stayed by my side and fed me ice chips until I was ready to go to my room. When I woke up upset and feeling anxious, they went out to my family and got a stuffed animal they remembered I brought from home for me to hold, and gave me a lavender scented pad to smell. Once back at my room, my nurse Tiffany was incredibly attentive, she made sure I wasn t nauseous because she was given a heads up by my anesthesiologist to watch for it. And when it came time to leave, the gentleman who wheeled me out to the car was even the happiest and most pleasant person, lightly humming as we went, helping me to my seat, wishing me a speedy recovery.

I take the time to write this in so much detail because leading up to the surgery, I wound up in the hospital twice due to gallbladder attacks. I went to two different places that were closer to home and I was ignored, made to feel the pain was in my head, left for hours unseen while getting sick on myself, my veins were blown through by the nurses and doctors who were rushing to get me in and out as quickly as possible. So while the type of care that I received at Hunterdon may seem standard to some, I promise you it is not. it is above and beyond. It is a shining example of what care SHOULD be everywhere. As long as I live in the state of NJ, I will always come back for anything I need. Thank you to everyone who helped me through this- I wish I could remember all of their names.

I am a positive person and typically do not place negative reviews; however, that is the case when I want publicly share my extremely negative experience. My close relative got in ER of Hunterdon Med Center in Flemington, NJ, due to septic condition after semi-surgical manipulation. Somehow a surgeon forgot to prescribe antibiotics and after she worsened prescribed agent which are not recommended by standards of care. ER team did beautiful job and get her back; still surgery should be repeated and I got agreement with specialized clinic in NYU to have her transferred. Everything went fine till Dr. Cao stepped in (avoid her by all means) and canceled the transfer without even talking to us. No clear explanation was provided and it resulted in 3 week delay in surgery when my dear relative spent in permanent pain. After that I got a bill and I made a deal with billing department that I will pay it in parts. So I did, but then all of a sudden I started getting multiple different bills re. the services which I am not sure I should pay at all given the unfortunate result of med care and the agreement I had with billing department. I made multiple calls at tel. numbers at the bills trying to figure out what should I pay. Mostly it was answering devices and one lady informed me that I am not authorized to discuss it since the bill is not at my name. At my reasonable question how come I was already authorized to pay multiple bills and made a deal of partial payments she disconnected. Thus, avoid Hunterdon Med Center for any serious medical problem, it is a dysfunctional organization with multiple paranoiacs in charge and especially Dr. Cao, she is playing god with little knowledge of what she is doing.

Incompetence at is best as the administration does not care. You need to examine your bills carefully here. The bill with the amount due after my insurance was mailed to the wrong address for over two years. I had no idea of this. They sent me into collections without confirming my address or even trying to call me. The people in the billing department that I spoke with couldn't care less. I really don't understand why anyone would choose to go to this facility with much better options to be found. I won't be back.

Very very disappointed of our experience at this h...

Very very disappointed of our experience at this hospital. My husband was brought there by ambulance from our hotel after getting sick on vacation. Every other hospital I have ever been to and experienced, when someone is brought in on ambulance they don t leave the patient wanting on a gurney in between the registration and triage area for an hour to even get into the ER so he can spent his time throwing up in front of people coming in to both places. Awful! Then when they brought him back they never put him into a room in the Er but left him by the nurses station with his wife and 8 year old daughter with an incredibly rude nurse who was questioning why my very sick husband was moving around and wasn t lying on his sheet and blaming him for it! He was kept out there in the hall, throwing up for 10 hours!!! They didn t give him anything to drink and he was suffering from dehydration. Not even ice chips and he was so thirsty from throwing up. Imagine throwing up and not at least having an ice chip for 10 hours. I believe that because my husband has been in recovery and on methadone for TWO years!! they treated him like a leper, like this dehydration was his fault when it ended up he had severe acute gastritis and my husband hasn t done drugs in two years. I thought doctors have an obligation to treat people with dignity. I m appalled and intend on directing this hospital and this experience directly in my blog and in a book I am writing regarding how the medical community treats drug addicts. Regardless, we saw two people go into the room right next to my husband for things like bursitis and my husband who had to stay over night and was finally admitted and was throwing up for hours wasn t allowed a room where he could be comfortable and turn off the lights. I have been to ERS in many areas in the country as I have lived all over and I have never experienced such angry nurses who can t think for themselves, doctors who are prejudiced and a hospital who can t deal with the amount of people coming to their ER.

Just spent 4 days at Hunterdon Medical Center with my mom. The staff on 5 South are the most dedicated crew that I have ever seen. They exhibit such compassion, understanding and sympathy for your situation. My mom is 87, suffers from dementia, and has several other medical issues. The nurses and pcas went above and beyond to ensure that all of my mother's needs were met. They even showed concern for my needs. I have never experienced that before in another hospital. They need to be commended for their efforts.

Rude intake like so many others have said. I came in doubled over in pain to the emergency room. The lady at the counter seemed annoyed when I said I might might pass out. Making a loud audible phsssst. Like people do when fed up. And in a condescending voice asked someone to get me a wheelchair. I am a man that keeps his hair long and it's a bit longer since covid-19 closed barber. It seems like it had a LOT to do with how I was treated. The PA was nice as was the nurse. Saw a Dr for 5 minutes said diverticulitis. Sent for CT. Turns out multiple kidney stones. Nurse explained this while having me sign discharge papers. Never saw Dr again or given any explanation as to exactly what CT showed. Just literally pointed towards the door. Completely different experience from when I was there ten years ago. Not good. Treated like annoyance.

We got home yesterday afternoon. I want to thank the staff for caring for my baby boy and me during our stay. While the delivery wasn't perfect and I have some small complications, I have all i need to take care of myself and the baby. They helped my husband and me, being first-time parents and all, and we got many of our questions answered.

The service was wonderful, but that's only part of the experience. My son is 18 months old now and we are still receiving "revised" bills and have been sent to collections twice because we didn't pay some new amount after we had already paid our balance in full. 1st rate maternity experience, 3rd world billing.

18 months to straighten out a bill and now it screws up my taxes and potentially my credit because they can't get their stuff together.

I hope to have it final before my kid goes to college.

I most recently was treated at your ER for a concussion. Dr Nimish Mehta MD treated me with the utmost care, dignity and respect. He respectfully acknowledged my desire to use the Yogic breath instead of medicine. He is quite beautiful inside and out. Om Shanti Om Shanti Om Shanti Om Peace Peace Peace. Humbled and recovering with love peace and respect.

I would also like to humbly thank Andrea a Social Worker who indeed treated me with love and respect. My concussion was due to an act of Violence that she knows should never be tolerated. Thank you Andrea for empowering me to live my life with love love and more love.

My experience was terrible and there are literally too many to share. The entire staff was rude during my stay. I requested my son be taken into the nursery so I could sleep after my surgery. The nurse told me the nursery was too busy. Too busy for a baby? But they were fine with billing me and my insurance thousands of dollars for a "nursery" stay. The staff made me switch rooms the day after surgery (while we were eating dinner) because my room was closer to admitting. They gave me incorrect discharge information which caused my incision to tear a few days later. God, the whole experience was a nightmare. There is not any accountability for staff. The billing department is arogant and unhelpful and treat you like a criminal rather than a patient. They literally aim to send your bill to collections. It is disgusting. I sincerely hope they shut down a corrupt hospital that lacks in patient care and only focuses on their payment for such terrible service! This hospital is the epitome of what is wrong with our healthcare system.

EMERGENCIES BEWARE!! I live literally around the corner from this hospital, and have been there more than any person should have to be. The ER is completely hit or miss, I have had times where it's fine, and then I have had other experiences like this. Last week, I was in excrutating pain, and was made to wait for 2 hours while others went in first, until I was so sick they had to try twice to even get an IV in. They went to run tests messed up the results because they gave antibiotics before they checkd for infection. I ended up being admitted and kept for 2 days, had several more tests run, and was sent home with NO answers. When I was sent home, I was sent home with a note that said I could go back to work "without restrictions" when they had me on a high dose of heavy narcotics! Try explaining that note to work! They also wrote on my discharge papers "pain level: 7" and "pain acceptable: yes" how is the fact I could barely walk and they sent me HOME taking narcotics acceptable?? They ALSO did not ONCE tell me that the MRI I had done showed any problems on the side I said was hurting. The papers which I took hope said there were 2 problems! One even had a NOTE ON IT asking if the patient was experiencing pain! I am appalled! No one but a couple of the floor nurses actually listened to what I was saying! Next time I'll go elsewhere and pray they do a better job!

Best experience I ve ever had. Even the registration people and security in the hallway where exceptional.

I took my son (17y) with a chest pain and bad abdominal pain to ER and at the beginning they did ekg and nurse came across and asked some health issues from the passed and because my son is a kidney transplant patient the doctor came to my room and very rude told me that they dont see patients with kidney transplants that they are not transplant hospital . First of all my son had a chest pain he was dismissed from school to take him to the nearest hospital ER. The doctor insisted that hunterdon shouldn't be my first option since he is patient of transplant . The reason for the visit wasn't the kidneys , was for chest pain I will never drive 100 miles more to get to the hospital where he got the kidney transplant when my son had a terrible chest pain . I will never send my family again here. The nurse in the ER back him up stating I should take my son to a different location . I am very disappointed how they prioritize urgency from all other chronic situation . I dont recommend this place .

I don't even know where to begin with the experience I have had at hunterdon. I couldnt be thankful or grateful enough for the staff and around the clock care I received during my pregnancy and maternity ward stay. I am in absolute awe of the bed side manner I received from the maternity staff and doctors. These amazing people have given me good memories to look back on that will last a life time. I highly would refer anyone who is expecting to see the doctors at all women's health care. The doctors there are very thorough, kind, understanding and want to actually help you feel your best.

If I could give this hospital a minus 100, I would. Gave birth there in Feb 2018. As a Veteran, I have a high tolerance for pain, not a whiner. But I was so neglected by the nurses post v-vac, it was disgusting! I was made to wait 2 to 3 hours for my pain medication . I had to beg for ice pads, I was given broken gowns and old, nasty towels with holes in them, and I was ignored most of the time. My bed side rail was broken, as well as the chair in the room. Horrible, worst birthing experience out of 4. I have a c-section scheduled there soon, and I am so scared of their nasty birthing wing. The only reason why I am returning is because of my amazing OBGYN doctor. Dr. Grimes. I am scared for my life post partum and c-section, as a disabled Veteran! Please keep me in your prayers!!

Hunterdon Medical Center ER and there Mental Health 2 Central are the worst I have ever seen. Don't subject your family members to them.
First Lets start with ER, they don't listen and medically cleared my family member, drugged them and then talked them into signing them selves into 2 Central. Truthfully they even made it sound good to me. But when you get there it is nothing like it was explained. They do not have any writen info on there rules, regulations or what to expect for the family. Some of the staff were wonderful, but unfortunately most should not have the job they have, I wouldn't trust them to run a dog kennel, let alone people in crisis. There is even a cleaning lady that is just mean to the patients. They really did nothing to help that a trip to your own doctor couldn't of done . Never again, would not wish this place on anyone.

Yesterday, I went to the ER with terrible joint and muscle pains that were getting worse over a few weeks. I had been advised to see a rheumatologist by my primary physician. The earliest spot I could get for that is a month away. I couldn t sleep, was in horrific pain at times and was really grasping at straws to see if there was anything the ER could do. From the woman at the desk for checking in, sorry I don t recall her name, everything was streamlined very well. I was seen immediately and made to feel that I was heard by every staff member I contacted. My heartfelt thanks to Nurse Monica Sirusas from whom I felt great compassion, and to Dr. Mona Jaggi for being very thorough, straightforward, and finding a solution to get me through this. I slept well last night and have far less pain and inflammation today. 10 stars from me. I can t thank them enough. Jami McLaughlin

I was looking to transfer from hospital to office nursing.
I was denied each time because they found a candidate with better qualifications .

My guess is they looked at my age and went from there. I can to this day run with the best of them.

Okay, first off, my horrible experience started be...

Okay, first off, my horrible experience started before we knew much about my true situation. It started when, for quite a few days, I was having severe abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea, and vomiting. I went into the ER, and they gave me a CT Scan. They saw my large intestine was very inflamed, so they recommended a few day hospital stay. They also put me on a couple of drugs to deal with the supposed infection. But I was still in severe pain for those few days and kept getting diarrhea. I thought it was just part of the infection. They thought it was gastritis or gastroenteritis. They released me a few days later, but I still was almost as bad as when I first came in. I could hardly even eat anything and lost about 50 pounds. I could hardly even ride in a car without getting sick. This lasted for a little less than a week before I went to my follow up doctor, who had the nerve to say I was doing good and they'd do a colonoscopy in six weeks because she said "You're too inflamed for one soon" What? My white count was through the roof, high hemoglobin, and still severe symptoms and I was told I was doing good? So then my mom made an appointment with another doctor she knows in another office. I go in, he takes one at me and my blood work and says "I think I know what's wrong. I have to do a colonoscopy tomorrow." I was stunned. Right away? And the other one wanted to wait six weeks? So I go in, get the colonoscopy, and he sees major inflammation so bad that he couldn't even do a full procedure. What was the problem? I was officially diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis and was put on IV steroids to bring the inflammation down and a few other meds for a few days there too. I felt SO much better and was able to eat more things. The vomiting also stopped and the bloody diarrhea decreased. I'm doing fairly well now though. Like I said, I didn't know much about these things before Mom's doctor explained them. Why Hunterdon didn't even put me on steroids to reduce the inflammation or at least do a scoping test to see what was up "down there" is just inexcusable and shows complete incompetence. So is the Doc I saw there a week later. You'd think they'd know all this stuff! I am NEVER coming here EVER again.
*UPDATE* In December 2017 I finally got the 1st part of my surgery to remove my diseased colon, and the 2nd part of the surgery done in May 2018 at Overlook Hospital. I am SO MUCH BETTER than how I felt 2-3 years ago despite having to use the restroom 4-5, sometimes 6 times a day.

My wife gave birth there, we had a TERRIBLE experience and would highly recommend avoiding this place. The problems are; (1) the staff is hit-and-miss. That is, only about 1/4 to 1/3 of the nurses are any good, the others are a complete disaster. and (2) the billing is so immensly frustrating & confusing, you regret having anything to do with this place Thier billing is riddled with mistakes and their account service is SO POOR its next to imposible to get anything fixed.

That said- Our DOCTORS were outstanding. We delt with 4-5 different OB specialists, that were excellent. All of them without exception were spectacular. Unfortunatly thier talent is simply trumped by the complete incompitence from these other areas- thats were the zero rating comes from.

They will do the absolute minimum to take care of you while taking as much money from you as possible. Hope that you problem is solved when leaving this hospital immediately because if you have any clerical or further medical problems then they don't care unless it's about the money you're giving them. This is a perfect example of what other countries complain about when they say "American Helathcare".

I come here frequently with the residents from a facility I work in. Ive Been doing this for 15 years so I've gotten to know the staff and hospital very well. The ER has changed alot and not for the positive. This Sunday we were in the flex area and were discharged after an exam with scans and my patient was good to go back. I've had Melissa quite a few times and she is always very respectful and polite. Shes excellent at drawing blood by the way, shes done numerous patients of mine when others couldn't get the blood. Anyway, on this day she says we are being discharged to the waiting room to wait for a ride and she was getting a wheelchair. She said would check on us if we needed anything (she always offers food, drinks to me and is very thoughtful) we wait hours sometime. The RN, Robin, comes in and rudely says "Theyre making me throw you out of the room" The PA overheard her and said " I think she meant to say we need the room and you are discharged" Erin was fantastic, professional, very kind and thorough. Melissa came out as she promised and all was cool. That comment from the RN was rude and I felt awkward after she said it. I dread having to be assigned to come there. The staff (aside from a few) are not friendly. Seems they hate their job, have chips on their shoulders and are always grumpy. The Rns arent always pleasant to the aids, Im one myself so i see it. We come alot and I hope that ER turns around. Its painful having to come there.

I went to Hunterdon Medical Center for severe abdominal pain. It turned out that I had acute appendicitis and had to have my appendix removed. Everyone I came in contact with at Hunterdon, from the front desk and triage to transport staff, nurses, and doctors, were caring and professional. They were wonderful throughout the whole process. They only did tests that were necessary to determine what was wrong and they also treated me respectfully when I declined to have one test due to my opinion that the test was not worth the risk of side effects. The Physician's Assistant, Heather, who took care of me in the ER was very knowledgeable and had a great bedside manner. Dr. Allard was my surgeon. He was outstanding. Eileen Browne was my nurse most of the time I was there and she was consistently attentive.

I didn't give 5 stars because of the wait time. Either they are understaffed or don't have a great system to keep things moving, or for some other reason, but I was in the ER for hours. Also, as is typical of hospitals, the food was sub-par to say the least. Jellos full of artificial colors, flavors, and thickeners, instant oatmeal, low fat milks, sugar laden puddings. All cheap processed foods. When I said I need some real food, one of the cooks was kind enough to cook me some eggs after the kitchen was closed and cleaned. Good people there for sure <3

I came in to hundred and medical center at 6:56 PM with an admission done by serene and EKG done by Danny I came in with symptoms of heart arrhythmia chills and muscle cramping Bumps on my head and neck while I am fighting a cold and have said I m on amoxicillin August 30 at 10:57 Dana came in and took my medical coverage paperwork upon discharge of me leaving Dr. Mike suggested an x-ray instead of labs which cost three times the amount if not by four times before even taking my insurance. By far the worst experience I don t see why I should pay for it I was in the waiting room 5 to 6 hours

I feel the need to state that I am a registered nu...

I feel the need to state that I am a registered nurse, which affects my opinion about HMC, due to the fact that I understand what quality nursing is as well as the triage process. I do not and have not ever been affiliated with Hunterdon Healthcare though...

Labor/delivery/post-partum care: I had both of my children here, and while the overall experience was good both times, there were some issues I had. I am lucky for the fact that both my labors were incredibly quick. I wonder how my experience here may have been affected had I gone through the normal time it takes to give birth. With my daughter, the second I got in the bed after changing into the hospital gown her head was already starting to come out... I was in so much pain and was offended when the nurses rolled their eyes like I was just another new/dumb mom who had 14+ hours to go and couldn't handle it. They were too concerned with my registration, which I had already done in advance via my birthing class there, yet they had no record of it! Finally, another nurse came in and said, "There's the head!" The registration nurse said, "Do you feel like you have to push?" Hmmm, I don't know, the head's popping out, what do you think? And the other nurses scrambled frantically for my doctor... 2nd labor was going to be induced due to how quickly the first one went and my fear of giving birth at home/in the car. The primary nurse and doctor got into a huge argument right in front of me. It was very awkward. My water broke and I began going into labor after my doctor examined me, which was why they were fighting (nurse said someone should have been in the room while the doctor examined me? Why? This was a female doctor mind you). Anyways, after that was sorted out, both parties apologized. The doctor then sat in the room with my husband and I for a great deal of time while my labor progressed. We had some great converstation which distracted me from the pain. I have never in my life felt so comfortable, safe, and better cared for as I did that day. We all know how doctors are in such a rush, but that day, I felt like I was her only patient.
Post partum: I had been advised by my birthing class instructor and friends to take advantage of the nursery so I could get some sleep before going home, so I politely asked if they could watch my son so I could take a nap. They took him, then brought him back about 45 min later and woke me up saying he needed to spend time with me. Yes, I understand all about bonding (this was my second child), but he had been in the room with me for the past 18 hours and I was delirious...

Family Practice: Ours is located within the hospital and I have nothing bad to say against them! They are awesome!

Emergency Room: Unlike others, I have had positive exeriences in their ER... Then again, because I am a nurse, me/my family only goes to the ER when things get REALLY bad (or as I joke "when we are dying") so therefore regardless of how many people are in the waiting area, we usually get priority and are seen right away. I was seen immediately after fracturing my finger. Both my children were also seen immediately when they each suffered deep scalp lacerations (within the same year! ugh!) which required staples. My son was even seen right away when he couldn't stop crying because his "pee pee hurt" and all of my interventions to help him failed. I do often wonder though if we were expedited due to my use of medical knowledge/terminology (medical professionals get nervous when their patients are also medical professionals), but then again, my family and I don't go to the ER for things like stomache aches, fevers, etc., unless I know it's something I can't diagnose/fix myself or something that can't wait until the next day when the doctor's office is open.

Other: Lastly, my son went to speech therapy here and he made tremendous improvement! I loved the staff. He had 2 different teachers who were both great, kind, and caring. I will never forget them!

Brought my daughter there for alcohol addiction spent 2 days in emergency unit, promised a dr would be in to see her No showed up all day. Saw a nurse 1 time come in her room. Had to wait hours for someone to let me know what was going on still we were ignored. Finally got to speak to a detox consultant, and was told all was good and they will make arrangements as soon as they check her insurance. Waited a few hours more. I left thinking that she would be going to the detox unit. When I got home my daughter called me at 12:30 am to say they woke her up to tell her she didn't have insurance. Now this happened earlier when I was there and she told them she did and does have insurance again waiting for them to check again. Finally after another 1/2 hour they told her oh sorry yes you do have insurance. It was so annoying the waiting the mistakes and the un professional care. Any one thinking of going there really should think twice. The ER is the worst. Can't say anything about the hospital it self but I can only imagine. Horrible.

Although my mother generally receives decent (not excellent) care at this hospital, the staff and administrators recently, and very badly, fell down on the job. My mother was being treated by a neurologist affiliated with the hospital for several years. His name is Dr. Donald Pennett. Last year, Dr. Pennett literally disappeared in the middle of the night, with no notice. He also absconded with all of his patients' records, so my mother has no record of her condition or treatment. The hospital was absolutely NO HELP in this matter, despite numerous requests for information or assistance. The administrators just clammed up. I also now wonder if Dr. Pennett was being supervised correctly, as there have been numerous patient complaints about his treatment methods.

So, beware.

This ER is terrible! It seems nice at first until you begin to realize you're not getting the care you came for. The nurses and staff are very nice but Dr. Barroom sends you home with your thumb in your rear! He comes in and out, suggests nothing and denies you the very basic of care. Ive been misdiagnosed by him. I have excellent insurance and every time he treats me like I don't have any. They don't see you as a person, they seem you as a problem and expedite your discharge papers before your bag of saline is even done, if your lucky enough to get one at all.... I smell corruption! I will ask to see my bill before I leave.

Terrible emergency room. My doctor sent me here fearing I might have internal bleeding. The emergency room staff didn t take my symptoms seriously at all. I never even saw a real doctor. I ended up being transferred to Morristown Medical Center where I am currently being treated for internal bleeding. Only go to HMC if you are looking for a good place to die.

Had hip syrgery done and the Dr. St John was great. Everything else was laser than Profesional. Medical information was never transfered from one RN to another, nor were procedures. A terribly poor organized system. They really don't help the patients in need. Too bad our country has come to this point. Ugh.

I've gone to Hunterdon Medical Center Emergency ro...

I've gone to Hunterdon Medical Center Emergency room twice in the past couple years - once for a fractured ankle (mid afternoon on a week day and they had no radiologist OR doctor to examine me - just a physician assistant who incorrectly diagnosed me with a sprain - I told him that I knew his diagnosis was wrong as I heard and felt the classic "pop" with instant swelling and couldn't put any weight on it immediately after). The radiologist read the x-ray the next day and confirmed my suspicion that I had an ankle fracture.
Second visit was for a hand laceration that happened outside. The examining room was not neat and tidy and didn't seem set up for sterile procedures. The nurse did not visibly sanitize his hands when he came into the room, and just put on gloves (now possibly contaminated) to touch and examine my open wound. The physician made a decision to have a derma-glue applied to the laceration to close it up ( I went to a dr I trusted the next day who had to remove (ouch!) the glue and open it up to prevent bacteria from growing and being trapped). They never even gave me any antibiotics but told me to follow up with a family dr in a day or two)! The nurse came into the room with a pre-filled large (?) syringe and a small vial of TDap vaccine and injected my arm for tetanus. Since it was filled before he came into the room, I don't know whether sterile protocol was followed - he could have filled it and put it down on a contaminated counter and then brought it in to inject me.
Bottom line, don't go here unless your life absolutely depends on it. They do not follow sterile protocol procedures nor, from my experience, are their emergency medical staff knowledgeable or well trained. My neighbor has confirmed her aversion to the hospital. Stay away.

The Medical Center used to be the best in the area. They convinced me they hire incompetent people. Needed blood drawn and even with an xray scanner and 10 inch needle, 3 nurses still managed to not accomplish anything other than hit my bone and dig into tendons and nerves.
