I definitely struggled with how to review this place. First impression was a cozy home style steakhouse. After the initial awe wore off i realized it wasn't as cozy. This place is in dire need of a face lift. There is a lot of potential for a cozy and classy place, but the worn pant and scrapped walls and tables were not impressing. Now on to the food. I saw amazing reviews before coming here and i was more then excited for what awaited me. My hopes were quickly deflated. 3 of us at dinner each with a different cut of steak. The rib eye had the most flavor of the 3, but was a lot tougher then it should have been. The fillet wasn't nearly as tender as expected and the taste was lacking. I personally ordered the prime rib. It had almost no flavor, if the bite didn't include the seasoning from the edge it was extremely underwhelming in flavor. My guess the meat had been frozen for quite a while. Or you need a better supplier if that was 'fresh.' The biggest clue to something was wrong was really how quickly the food came out. It couldn't have even 10 minutes before 3 steaks came out. Place wasn't packed, but not empty either. Seemed way to quick for the 2 non prime rib to come out. I would expect prime rib to be quick as it is cooked slow and just needs brought to the requested cook temp. Overall, i'll probably never go back, and never recommend this place to anyone. Sorry.

We went to S.D. for a one day get away. Long story short we went there Saturday night and enjoyed the Prime Rib. So before we left back home on Sunday We had to eat there one more time. I knew I wasn't going to finish the Hunter's but I had to take it to go. This place is a 10.

The overall experience with food was good. I ordered a Filet Mignon medium done and that was good. The baked potato seemed like it needed something, like cheese and bacon. The Caesar salad was alright, a little sour for my taste but my wife loved it.

My absolute favorite Prime Rib, period. Melt in your mouth cuts, a little bit of an old school hunting lodge vibe inside, kinda dark but the food makes up for all of that. My family has been going here for years and we go about 10 or more times a year. Very nice staff and again amazing prime rib. This is where I send anyone asking for a good steak house while in SanDiego.

We've always been wowed by the prime rib and salad at Hunters. It's absolutely the best, you literally will never find anything like it and it's the nastalgic taste of the house made dressing and horseradish sauce along with the perfect cut of the prime rib that will always bring us back

Not great. Service is probably not at fault here but for that price I demand that my steak is at least still warm when it gets on my table. 33 bucks for a cold filet mignon is not a good deal. My rib-eye steak was not particularly tender either and I suspect that asking for medium-rare had nothing to do with it. In addition: why do you put the name 'hunter' on the restaurant name when the menu has no meat that can possibly be hunted, like wild boar or deer. Hunting cows is really not an appealing sport.

Food was great. The burger was intimidating. Forgot that the soda taste like chlorine. Service was great and nice. The prime rib is to die for. The seared ahi, wish had more then 6 pieces. The calamari was delicious.

The food was good, waiter was excellent, decor/ lighting was a little dark though. I'd say make a reservation even if the place doesn't seem busy, you'll be seated faster (what we experienced).

We came in with a group of 8 and although the service was great, we all found the food to be lacking. The prime rib was nearly cold and the shrimp scampi was watery. Another complained of the filet being dry. The mashed potatoes were runny and room temperature. The San Diego Zoo was great, but our experience here was below average. Seemed to draw an elderly crowd.

Price is too high for the overall quality of the restaurant. The service during my visit was inattentive, not completely terrible mind you. Just not very good we sat at a table for approximately ten mins before our server saw us. The gouda and parm croquets were tasty. Ceasar salads where ok, no fresh cracked pepper only a clogged pepper shaker to use, dressing was a bit too thin for my liking. A filet and ribeye both were properly cooked to a medium rare, but I dont believe they were seasoned at all and while good steaks shouldn't need much they still need a bit. The ribeye was very narrow like that you see in lower quality prime rib roasts. It had almost no lip which ended up with too much char due to its size. Prime rib does not describe the grade but the cut this particular ribeye fell somewhere maybe between a good select grade to barely a choice grade though I am a steak snob. The sides: potatoes au gratin was ok but also lacked any season and had almost excessive rings of thin cut onions, and the mixed vegetables were similarly unimpressive. The decor is very out dated many of the low hanging lamp shades are in desperate need of cleaning. For an 80 dollar dinner for two the overall experience just does not meet expectations.

Solid steakhouse. Family friendly ambience with good starters. We had the Hunter trio which was a nice selection of steak tips, shrimp skewers and BBQ chicken. Nice sized portions and not a rushed atmosphere at all.

Yes, one star. First of all, the service was great. Our server was nice and not overbearing. Now for the food. They offered a 2 for 50 meal which was seemed like a great deal. I ordered the Prim rib and my wife ordered salmon and a glass of Riesling. The wine had floaters and we had it replaced. That was fine. The water had floaters and I just chose not to drink. Ok, I can deal with that. The appetizers were BARELY mediocre and tasted like Chili's on a bad day. The main course of "prime rib" was beyond description. The cut was most likely pulled out of the trash can, the meat was boiled and DEFINITELY the worst thing I've ever tasted. I've never felt insulted with a steak before, but this was insulting. I NEVER complain. I NEVER send food back. I don't believe in it. This was so beyond bad I created a Google account just to leave this review. The only thing edible at this restaurant was the stuff they couldn't ruin like the apple butter and wine. DO NOT EAT HERE! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! To the owner of the restaurant, FIRE YOUR COOKS

So, it's been awhile since I've given any restaurants a 5 star rating, but in my opinion this one is well deserved.

I just have to emphasize this was the Best dinning experience I've had at any restaurant in a very long time. Being one who works in Hospitality, the service was impeccable. When first arriving after picking up my girlfriend Beverly from the airport, it looked as though they were closed since there weren't a lot of cars in their parking lot. I asked the hostess,
1. Are you seating for dinner? (hostess): Yes. As a matter of fact we're seating inside and outside.
2. Are you pet friendly?
(Hostess): Yes. In our outside dining area.
I said amazing.

Now, from the moment we sat down on the patio, we were greeted by one of the best waiters ever. You know what? Change that last statement to food Concierges by the name of Riley. He, as well as the rest of the staff working, are all so amazing at what they do.

Riley's professional attire, his service, and all around food menu knowledge and communication was outstanding!!! Great personality. So, we proceeded to peruse the happy hour menu. Ordered drinks, and appetizers which consisted of their amazing appetizer sampler and fries from the kids steak and fries menu. (That was for my dog Sasha). Lol. Yes. My dog gets very spoiled.

So, back to what I was saying. We proceeded to order our meal, my girlfriend ordered their Filet mignon with their table salad buffet. I had their Porter House with Broccoli and baked potato. (Both Medium Rare). Now mind you.

I'm normally one who takes photos of my food when it's brought to the table, but I was so excited once I saw the presentation on my plate, that I totally forgot to take any for this review.

So, what I'm trying to say is, if you're looking for a very low key, and intimate spot that doesn't have 35-40 minute wait time to get a table. Then this is the place...

Hunters restaurant is located off the 8 freeway, on Taylor street and Hotel Circle N. This is the place to be. And Riley, will be more than happy to help you have a great dining experience. The best part of this review is, Riley never suspected that I would write a review on him. I think that he deserves a bonus. Lol
Great Job.

Was expecting more but was a little disappointed, food was decent but wasn't hot and the service wasn't anything to brag about. Maybe it was because it was a holiday and they were busy but we were expecting better.

Horrible service. I would give 0 stars if I could. We were told it would be a 45 min wait, only to go up after 40 min and were told it would be another 30 min. No explanations and nevee told us it would be a longer wait. We ended up walking out.
