Thank you! We got a lot of help over the phone, and when we came to the shelter after a 5 hour drive. We found the little girl we were looking for, and have had her about 2 weeks now. She is absolutely wonderful! Thanks to the everyone! All good things to say about this shelter!

None of the dog cages had been cleaned in weeks, even though they had food-a-plenty many of the dogs were malnourished(some worse than others). Then there's the feline section that reeked of ammonia, we went to go see/pet some of them, but because they failed to clean the litter boxes we left almost as soon as we'd arrived.Sheer disgust no matter how many volunteers you have or don't. That's not a good environment for them.

We took Panther in as a foster because we wanted to make sure he would get along with our other cat. We have now adopted him. He's the sweetest boy! So happy and healthy.

We adopted our other cat, Josie, from Cozy Cat in Powell. We'd wanted to get two at once, but they didn't have another cat in the same age range who we thought would do well with Josie. The Humane Society staff spent a lot of time with us. I've had cats most of my life, but even I learned some new things.

Panther and Josie aren't the best of friends, but they complement one another. I think they do enjoy each other's company. We love them both very much, and are blessed to have them here with us. We're thankful for the help we've received from the staff at the Humane Society in transitioning into a two-cat household. :-) (And no, we didn't adopt two black cats intentionally. We didn't go into it with a color bias. We just wanted ones of the same age. Give black pets a chance! They do have a harder time getting adopted. These two are wonderful cats!

I called in asking about surrendering a kitten I found on my porch. I told the woman that I took this kitten to my vet and she has some medical issues. I told the woman that I couldn't financially support the poor thing and hoped I could surrender her to the humane society in hopes that she could be fostered or even adopted out to someone who can financially support her. The woman told me to come in on certain days to see the vet and to bring in the paperwork from the vet with me. I go in on the day she told me to and went up the receptionist. This person looked annoyed and told me to get the kitten vaccinated and to come back in two weeks. I told her, that is not what the person on the phone told me to do, if she did I would've. I walked away frustrated, went back to her and told her that the woman on the phone told me to come in with the paperwork to see the vet to surrender this kitten. I gave her the paperwork and she looked at it and told me that I was early and had to wait. She told me its been super busy today, even though there was only two guests sitting in the lobby. Not very professional at all, very rude. I waited an hour before I could see the vet, mostly waiting for my vet to fax over more info about the kitten. Finally the vet took in the kitten and just moments later brought her back out and said that they can't help her because she MIGHT have ringworm and I have to wait on the results. Even after that she told me that I couldn't surrender the kitten to them because she's not friendly ( I mean she's probably scared) and wouldn't get along with the other cats and stress everyone out. I asked her what to do, or if there's another place I could take her to and she basically told me that I SHOULDN'T mess with strays because you don't know what you'll get (health issues) and to put her down. Seriously?!There was no other options according to her and she didn't know about any other places to help cats. The vet wasn't pleasant to begin with and her blatantly telling me to never mess with any outdoor cats and to just put her down without a care in the world. I left frustrated and at a lost. I just wanted to help this kitten. A few weeks later I get a call from the humane society, saying she doesn't have ringworm and NOW they will take her in. SERIOUSLY? Your vet told me to basically give up on her or put her down and now you want to take her in? No thanks! With no help from the employees I talked to, I figured out a way to help this kitten. If this kitten can easily live a good life with possibly medication to help her out, why end it's life so suddenly? I'm a cat mom, and if this kitten has a fighting chance I'm going to give it her and she does. She's in a better place without their help. The staff was very rude and not very helpful. Zero stars.

This is a very well run shelter. The staff and volunteers are friendly. It is clean and you can be sure that any animal you adopt has been thoroughly vetted both medically & behaviorally. The down side to this is that if you are looking to adopt it may take some time for the right pet to come along. Cats are more plentiful than dogs from my experience. it is best to complete an application and get pre-approved, especially if you are looking for a puppy to add to your family.

We really love visiting the Humane Society. We have donated items, and visited the cats and dogs. The cat room is a great set up with no cages. It is nice to get to see the cats in a more natural environment.

A staff member was mad at my wife, & I!! When one of the staff went back to get our cat & bring her in her carrier the staff member took her anger out on our cat! This lunatic through the cat carrier with our cat inside on a bench! Our cats body fell around like she was in a car accident!! If this was on video she would have been arrested!!

I feel bad for the animals here. The one lady who s always with the cats is seriously the ONLY good worker. Everyone else there is so rude. I get making it harder to adopt an animal for their sake, but cmon why be rude to someone genuinely trying to adopt something. And if the employees are going to run their mouth they should go in the back room and not just the side of the desk.

I have volunteered at the Humane Society of Delaware County for several years. They are truly a remarkable shelter. Pets are not "warehoused" here. They have multiple daily walks, doggie play groups and much more. All pets are truly loved. You can tell the pets are "spoiled rotten" here. Staff and volunteers are so dedicated in the pets care. Please come take a look!

Generally clean, with helpful staffs, more people stopped by to look for adoption opportunity than I expected but still enough free parking spots. I saw more than 50 cats & 20 dogs ready for adoption. Pets looked healthy, happy, and well taken care of.

The first review, with 3 stars, is a flat out lie. Everytime that I use this clinic, it's always clean and very courteous staff. Both of the cats they had in their cages at the office, were in excellent CLEAN condition. She even let me and my brother pet the two cats. I would adopt every cat on the planet, if I could. I took my dog here last year, he was very sick, very professional, euthanasia service. Now I had to take my Sadie, babygirl cat, to get spayed and they are awesome!!! Like I said, unless the first review has proof, this clinic is NOT infested like they posted!!! Excellent job y'all!!!

My son and I came up and play with the pups for a bit and he fell in love with a big ol pup named Wilbur. The guy in charge of the dog area was super friendly and helped us take Wilbur outside to play. We had a great time.

Low cost spay and neuter. That's my only positive remark. They are not great sales people though
Mentioned looking at the dogs and No one volunteered to walk me back. Just informed me that they do have dogs around the age I was interested in. Then stopped and looked at the cats thru window and they again didn't mention showing me the cats either just ignored me as if I wasn't there. So we as toppdz and looked at rabbits and guess what. They didnt say a word to us. Hey Are you interested in them? Would you like to see them? NOPE! Them animals aren't gonna get outta there any sooner with the girls they got working there now. Sad.

I have gotten my well child visits for my 3 pets here for years. They are excellent and do a great job! I get vaccinations, flea, tick, heartworm meds here. I had my dog's teeth cleaned. I have had to have one of my babies put to sleep and they were so kind and compassionate. I've used them for pets to go for cremation too. Services are excellent and a huge cost savings. They are not an emergency room or for illnesses. One still has to have a regular vet. But overall, it makes having a pet much more affordable.

adopted a lovely year old cat today named vivian. i put in my application the day before and was contacted within 24 hours and now she s laying in her new bed in her new home!

edited:
i changed my review rating for a few reasons. the biggest one being vivian tested positive for heartworms at the DCHS and i was not told about this. heartworms are not treatable in cats and she could die suddenly. the humane society had me sign her paperwork before they showed me her medical history. i took her to the vet a few days later, and the vet was outraged that a place she s worked with in the past would do this. she suggested that i call and request reimbursement of the adoption fee and for her to be retested as sometimes false positives occur. i called the humane society and was laughed at, denied care, and asked if i wanted to return my cat. the staff was incredibly rude and not understanding and i was clearly upset. the humane society did not care and did not offer and kind of assistance or solution. now i have to pay for extra healthcare that i wasn t told about when the shelter KNEW something was wrong. ridiculous and scammy. i m incredibly disappointed.

Been trying to get ahold of them for 3 days about a dog that we applied for. We have called probably ten times and left several messages but can t ever seem to reach anyone. Our daughter is heartbroken. Wouldn t be such a big deal to just go see if the dog is still there, except we live quite a ways away.....

We have adopted 2 dogs here and would recommend anyone looking 'fur' a pet stop in and take a look. They also have cats and rabbits as well as other small animals. Staff is super and all animals and their areas appear to be be well kept. I could spend hours in the kitten room.

We found a kitten in a park last October and wanted to find a low cost spay/neuter clinic. I found the Delaware Humane Society and we couldn t be more pleased. They answered all of our questions and even rescheduled once after we couldn t make the original appointment. The staff members were very kind to our new pet and to our family. We purchased low cost vaccinations in addition to the neuter which was convenient. I am thankful that our kitten received needed care within our budget.
