What a delight of place! Excellent atmosphere, delicious food, first class service, good atmosphere. Really, whether you have a craving for meat, fish, seafood or a delicious dessert ... this place is the option and if you come with friends as best.

Wonderful, delicious food, incredible staff and service. The decor is super funky. The portions are huge! Best crab cakes I ve ever had! Shockingly, they made me love the Brussels sprouts too (the bacon could have something to do with it). Everything was cooked perfectly. I will definitely be back!

Walked in at 730 on a Friday without a reservation and the hostess got us a table in 5 min. We ate like kings and were treated like them. Great service, great food, and fresh seafood. Such a great spot. Chicago staple.

Excellent place to dine King Crabs and fish or good cuts of meat.
Every year I visit it and it maintains excellent food quality and service.
It is worth visiting this place if you are in Cicago.

Food was excellent. Enjoyed ourselves right until the end when we closed out our $80 tab with cash. The bartender pocketed some of the money and then told us we didn't put in enough money to cover the bill. Will NEVER EVER go back. Just got scammed.

This is usually a scheduled stop for dinner when visiting Chicago. But, my experience on Saturday, March 25 was horrible. They smashed our group of 6 into an area where there were probably 2 or 3 tables of four too many people. Our chairs were constantly being bumped by guests and staff. If was so loud we could not have a conversation. We complained to the manager and asked to be moved but, they could not do that. I'm sure that the set up of the tables was a fire Hazzard. Thank God there was not an emergency. Food was great. But, could not enjoy it. Next time I am in Chicago for business , I will been looking for a new favorite place to go.

It was ok. Side dishes of broccolini, squash, and Brussels sprouts were ok, nothing to write home about (I actually didn't like the broccolini). Steak was good, but for $60, I expect that. Dessert (apple turnover with vanilla ice cream) was excellent. Overall experience was just ok, but because it's a premier restaurant, the value was just not up to par

Fun spot in a great area. Not much available for vegetarians. I ordered a veggie only plate and it was very basic. Not much flavor. My brother had the fish and said it was just "good". Nothing to write home about.

I love this place it s one of our go to s when in Chicago! You always know you're going to get excellent food and service! We sat at the bar and the bartender recommended the Chicago cut ( definitely get that). Also, try the frog legs it s so worth it! We also had a great experience with a manager named Adam. Super professional and friendly, and you can see he really cares about his customers and the place. We loved chatting with him! A place well stop at every time we're in Chicago!

Lots of food served 'family' style for our table. No shortage of food to eat for those that are hungry. Desserts were huge, one carrot cake and one ice-cream cake. Didn't think the desserts were that taste.

Oysters are super fresh, but some of them were a little bit too salty. But for the happy hour price ($1/each), oh yes baby! Go for them!

We also ordered Sliders (friend says it s okay), half pork rib (rib is not well cooked so didn t even take a picture), Fried Calamari (love it!) and Escargot (too oily).

Superb

After a horrible dining experience at Gibson's, I wasn't really expecting much from Hugo's.

Even though we had a reservation, we had to wait 20 minutes to be seated, which is always annoying. Why the hell did I make a reservation then?

We ordered the pan fried walleye and another white fish that I can't remember. These came with sides of soup, of which we ordered the clam chowder and crab bisque. The crab bisque was too bland, so I ended up swapping it for the clam chowder.

Service was alright... just overall an average dining experience, and the food was average as well.

I hadn't been here in quite a while. Decided to treat my son Nick to a nice dinner. First thing he noticed was the service. We hadn't even ordered our food yet and the service was outstanding. We started with calamari. It was fried correctly, crispy coating, and tender squid with lots of lemon slices and yummy marinara. I ordered the medallions. They were so good, cooked medium just the way I like them, and seasoned. So many times when I eat it, the food is bland. Not here, you don't need to add any seasonings. I had a great time here and look forward to coming back.

Ended up here because the other restaurant to which we had planned to go was packed. It was a Saturday evening and we went to the bar. The bartender was fantastic and there was something about the old-school charm of it all that I really liked. We enjoyed ourselves so much that I forgot to take pictures. We shared oysters and a few other appetizer dishes. Everything tasted good and the drinks were made strong, which is a plus. It's really the atmosphere that put it at 4 stars. The restuarant was extremely busy (and tight fit between the tables!) by the time we left around 9p. It did cost us a pretty penny.

Just left here. Dinner was not the best. Our server Brian was m.i.a 60% of the time. Didnt check in to see of the food was okay. My crab legs were SALTY and the filet slider was burnt. My fiance's crab cakes were 60% cake, resembling cornbread stuffing. Terrible. This place used to be good to me, but not anymore. The bus boy was RUDE! Reaching over you while you're talking. Just a mess!

Hugo's shares its kitchen with Gibson's and you can also get many of the same menu items at both places. It's loud inside and the atmosphere is definitely spirited. The staff is very friendly and they do truly have good knowledge of their products. Be prepared to pay the Gold Coast prices so bring a hearty appetite and some plastic.

Waiter had personality, and made us feel we were special. Yeah we dropped $560 that night but felt it was well worth it.
