The kids and I really loved it! The variety of animals and birds are great!
Free Tuesday, and lots of animals not available or viewable, hummm...
Th Houston zoo lights was very festive n entertaining
The website does not tell you that the zoo closes and is open for MEMBERS only. Ridiculous...drive over an hour to break a 5 year olds heart not being able to get in
...
Great relaxing place to visit and stroll around. The new Gorilla exhibit is awesome! Plus they have plenty of food/beverage carts throughout the park to keep you refreshed.
An oasis in the middle of city! Well worth the day out. Food and drink were a little pricey but of good quality.
Great place for families, dates or singles. The animals are being protected and preserved.
After 4 hours. .it started raining. .But great time with Grandkids
Went for zoo lights for the first time. It's pretty but for the price and fact that it is the Houston Zoo I think they could do better in offering a magical experience. Some areas areare extrem dark and lack signs leading you down the path to the exit. There are many construction like areas that could easily be lit up with curtain light or at least an arrow pointing you to proceed. 3 groups asked if they were going down the right path with one being an elderly couple who said they had been trying to find a way to leave for 10 minutes.
On the upside the well lit areas are very beautiful. The trees along the water area are gorgeous and sync with the music so it's lovely to watch. Also there is an area that is some what of a glowing florescent area. I have to say Disney's Pandora zone should take pointers from whomever designed that spot. Also the silhouette of animals is so pretty definitely pic worthy.
Overall a nice experience and I would recommend.
Keep in mind Mon - Thurs are value nights so adults are $17.95 instead of $22.95.
My family loves the zoo. The only thing I don't like is hearing people complain that the animals are not moving. They are animals people and just like us they enjoy a lazy day too. Be thankful that Houston has a wonderful zoo for you to visit.
Very vast. Good chance you wont see everything the first time. Very clean.
Like the zoo. If you are there at 9 that is when the gates open, have to wait to see the animals. People still cleaning cages
Loved it. My niece came from Florida she was so excited
Very nice zoo, large enough to enjoy unlike the Houston aqurium!
Great place to spend an afternoon work the kids. Afterwards, you can hang out at the Miller Outdoor Theatre, if you have the energy.
Great zoo I'd just like to see bigger enclosures for the majority of the animals.
It Was Amazing To See The Lights .It takes about 45 minutes or less to walk and tour the zoo lights.Great for family and friends.Happy Holidays Guys.
If you're not from Houston and you're looking for somewhere to go while on vacation are just visiting the city I highly highly highly recommend the Houston Zoo. Also Memorial Park it's amazing the park is beautiful and US Texans are friendly. But back to the zoo... It is just breathtaking the animals are beautiful and well count in my opinion the greatest zoo in America
You can see a lot of exotic types of animals higly recommended if you want something tk do in the weekends or if you are in town a couple of days you definitely need to go
Can't wait to get a family membership here! The Houston Zoo is a beautifully maintained park with so many exhibits. My 6 year old and I never wanted to leave! We can't wait to go back.
Me and my boyfriend went today for the first time loved it, food is way over priced tho I would recommend eating before you go and bring water with you unless you want to pay $4 a bottle
So many habitat improvements over the past 20 years. Good to see. The cat enclosures are larger but still needing more roam room. Houston is doing a good job.
This is a really great place but, I would highly recommend going in the evening. It is really hot during the day.
The parking is a bear but if you take the metro it's very manageable.
My daughter loves coming here. I'm not a fan of the Houston weather but during the right season this is a great outing.
We love the zoo. The traffic around the zoo is ridiculous, trying to find a parking space is even more ridiculous!! Zoo Boo ended way too early, it should have kept on till the zoo closed!
A great way to spend the day and the kids will love it. The zoo is fairly big and it has plenty of animals to see. The University of Houston's cougar lives here as well. It is located near the museum district if you wanted to make a whole day out of it. There are places to eat inside if you wanted. Visiting during Christmas time is a good idea. The zoo does a nice job of decorating with lights and lots of people come out to see it every year.
Free tickets first Tuesday of the month, beginning at noon. Saved my large family lots of $$!
We took advantage of the free day they have on the second of the month. It started out bad. First thing is the crowd the word FREE brings was just craziness. Driver's having poor parking etiquette. Once I found parking there family and I enjoyed the rest of our day. Received give starts, because this is the zoo we're talking about. Nothing bad to say for the zoo. Good luck if you decide to go.
Worth seeing. It is right in the medical centers of Houston. Very accommodating personnel. Easy handicap access to exhibits. Also stroller friendly.
Great area outside to walk in the park with wild animals to look at if you don't have the time for the zoo experience. The zoo is worth the price if you have the time. Outside the zoo you can see Herons, geese, 3 types of ducks, turtles, cute giant rodents (forget the name but they look like massive hamsters), tons of different types of small birds, free Japanese gardens, lake, pool, monument, art, water play area etc
I've never had a bad experience here. Every time I go there, it's always a good time.
The kids really enjoyed all the different species of animals! The time went by quickly. I appreciated the fact that we were able to take our own picnic lunches and cooler of drinks!!!
awesome zoo with a great range of Animals for the grand-kids from a Swamp-monkey to a Asian elephant. the staff was extremely friendly and the prices were not to high like a lot of activities in the area. Thanks
Got discount tickets so it was pretty good for the price. Hot day, but lots of shade so not bad. Animals not so active the later in the day it was. Too hot for them.
Loved the animals and my family had a great time thank you for having us
It was super fun. It was raining so many of the animals were trying to stay dry but some of them would poke their heads out to see us. So we still saw a lot of them.
10/10 would come again
10/10 will check the weather prior hahaha
Parking was a nightmare, but once that was done, we had a great time. I really enjoyed the size and layout of this zoo. It was nice and big, and even though there were a lot of people, it didn't seem really crowded. I thought they could improve the lines at the entrance, as the wait seemed really long. I really liked the water in the middle of the zoo, kind a water zen garden area. That was great. We had a great time, and I highly recommend it.
Great place but there was a lot of construction going on inside and outside of the zoo. They had tons of animals there to see. I wish they had penguins there though.
Really cool and fun! Just make sure your there before they open, if you don't its hard to find parking! Bring lots of money too!
Very nice facility despite all the changes required for the COVID-19 challenge. My boys really liked all the animals.
Great zoo. Beautiful setting. A little expensive ($18? For adult). Parking is free, but can crowded.
This zoo has some of the most gorgeous landscaping I have ever seen. Even if you cared less about seeing the animals (which are interesting and fun), you would enjoy just wandering around and seeing the beautiful trees and flowers etc... I really liked how there are rentals of strollers, wagons, wheelchairs, and motorized wheelchairs as well. They do have a limited number of motorized wheelchairs, so if you need them get there early. This zoo is BIG, so if someone has limited mobility I would definitely suggest taking advantage of this perk. I didn't try the food at the cafe, but I saw people walking and eating incredible looking sandwiches from the zoo's cafe.
Really nice zoo especially because I'm a Houstonian. But I just wish they had a live news feed of which animal is out or not
Great place to bring the kiddos. Always clean and plenty of walking space so it isnt crowded. Bring your own lunch or dine at one of their several cafes. Ice cream shops and slushies available throughout the zoo and even a splash pad! There is a carousel and giraffe feeding for mod day entertainment and they always host fun events!
Nice to experience free zoo day before summer. It was a nice time, wish the new wetlands were open but will be back to see when project is complete. Missed the Albino crocodile.
A fun place to go with the family. We all had a great time here.
An amazing experience! The new Gorilla exhibit was amazing, and they're currently adding a South American Pantanal exhibit which I'm looking forward to! They have tons of animals from around the world, and lots of interactive things for the whole family.
Our little girl loves the zoo! They have made many changes since the 80's. It is set up well now. I think it is great. We got season passes. We will be back soon!
One of the best zoos I've ever been to! Lots to do for all ages and a nursing room near the bathrooms great for moms.
LOVE the kid s zone and appreciated that it was inside the zoo confines. The kids totally enjoyed the Splash Pad, Texan s Encounter and Carousel. Of course, each had that special animal they wanted to see. The visit brought back many happy memories from when I visited the Houston Zoo as a child.
I guess it was ok but some animals we didn't see and didn't expect the dragons wasn't real, was kinda boring at first until later got interesting with Gorilla's,Elephant,Giraffe's,zebra, and Rino's and Lion's,Seal's..
I grew up going to this zoo. Took my three sons for Spring Break 2018, and wasn't impressed. Most of the staff were rude, the famous Koi ponds were so full of leaves you could barely see them, most of the animals looked bored and hungry or were alone. In 20 years, being in such a booming city, I would've expected them to have gotten better.
Definitely the most beautiful zoo I ve ever been to. A real effort is made to incorporate Houston s beautiful live oaks and Cyprus trees into the design/layout of the zoo. Animals seem to have nice, large habitats. Membership fees really are worth it. We go at least once every two weeks. It s great to have a place to go where our toddler can lead the way and see what he wants to, parents in tow. There are more activities to do at the zoo than I can possibly list. Definitely worth checking out if you re from out of town or with a membership of you have young kids.
Enjoy every minute at the zoo. The staff are always helpful.
I love the Houston zoo my favorite part is the new gorilla exhibit. The animals look happy and healthy and my kids always have a blast when we go there. We have memberships and we try to go every weekend. All the walking makes for a great workout.
Went to Zoo Lights here and the atmosphere was great! Definitely recommend
We visited the Houston Zoo as part of a "birthday celebration" for my wife and son. Neither of them had been to a zoo in a major city so this was a big treat for them and they were not disappointed. Making use of the off site parking and free shuttle service worked out excellent. They zoo staff was very friendly and helpful. While there are two new areas being built the rest of the areas were in good shape and the animals are healthy and well cared for based on what we saw. Since we visited while the Houston Rodeo was going on there were no bad crowds. It is definitely a great idea for a family outing.
Well,to be honest it's not a big deal.looking the bright side, you can workout a bit walking around,I love nature and Animals but i didn't see many in there, maybe they were hide.
It was great and there were a lot of shaded places set up and waterbottle filler stations.
Great day at the Houston Zoo today! and friendly helpful staff.
We always have enjoy different kinds of events there. Good place and good food court.
It was good sorry i got older but dang that was a bunch of kids.
My son and I are members of the zoo. He loves to see all the animals and specialy the aquarium. I'm glad they made a family room. Breastfeeding moms can have some privacy. They are making a new section. Can't wait to see it
Great zoo. Seems pricy at first but there's so much to see that it's totally worth it. Loved the baby lemur!
The Houston Zoo is one of the best Zoos I've been to. The exhibits are always clean and the staff is nice and helpful.
We re long standing members and very frequent visitors of the zoo. We love it!
Good layout, clean, friendly staff. Nice collection of animals. To many wire cages, need more open enclosures with moats so photos can be taken easier. Food was excellent at Twiga cafe. Prices were reasonable for what you receive.
Houston Zoo Lights was ok. If you plan on attending, buy your tickets in advance. If you don't, the lines are crazy long! Also, make sure that you read where you need to park so that the trams will pick you up! You won't be able to park in the "normal," park area. There's simply too many people trying to attend this annual event.
On the other hand, if you attend the Houston Zoo during daylight hours, you won't be disappointed. The zoo is one of the best in the country, and it is highly underestimated.
Houston zoo it's a family or group place to enjoy to see the animals. You can see all the animals and be entertained with kids. From birds, elephants, and much more. You will not be disappointed. Also appreciate military members with 50% off price.
Houston zoo is a great place to enjoy a full day !! Zoo lights event at Houston Zoo !! A brilliant and magnificent glory of lighting decorations during the Holiday season and festive nights. We went here twice including one on Christmas eve, it's sooo beautiful. Huge trees are decorated with gorgeous colorful lighting to the whike trees and in various shapes and designs too. At many places there are animal shaped huge decors made with lightings. Beautiful big and small led, neon lights glow everywhere. Purple, yellow, green, blue, pink, red, white colored lights grace the whole atmosphere. On Christmas eve there's a big event of Christmas carols concert and a countdown for Christmas and a similar grand celebration for New year's eve too. It's a great fun atmosphere. So many people gather to watch the whole Zoo Lights celebration. Facilities and management is great and premises are clean ! Would love to visit again !
Great experience every time. Lots of fun. Go early animals are more active in morning because it s feeding time.
I always have fun when I come here. Like any attraction be sure to either bring your own snacks or a lot of money. The concessions are way over priced. The attractions are fun and interesting, especially the bird house. It is beautiful. The only down side is everytime I have come in the last few years there is always construction that gets in the way. If you are going to go make sure to see the elephants and feed the giraffes.
Because I really like animals and the environment was good to be in and get fresh air and there was free WiFi in the restaraunt so I was able to call my dad and the food was cheap. I only spent $10.00 for 2 people. And $6 more for the metal water bottle I got there as well
Love the zoo lights. Awesome experience just wish that the animals were apart of the zoo light experience and that military discounts are offered all of the time.
The animals seem happy and I learned a lot about the environment and the animals.
Thought the zoo lights were great, well worth it, but it is quite a bit of walking if you have elderly family members. Also do not follow the zoo's website advice of riding the Light Rail and walking through the park at night. There were a lot of lights out on the pathways and there were some very dark areas. I would not have felt safe had I been alone with my kids.
