Hotel Vertigo was lovely. Staff was friendly. Rooms were clean. 4 stars because of the noise. There was a lot of street noise and also noise I could hear above and below me. Hotel is centrally located close to buses, Chinatown, and Union Square.

Room was great, good size shower/tub combo, very clean. Very friendly day staff, the overnight guy was a bit crabby. Only down side was they stopped doing the coffee/tea bar in the lobby. I would definitely stay again if San Fran wasn t so disgusting.

Perfect, stay in S. Francisco of three nights all perfect, despite the works in the HALL very few noises are perceived, the position is its strong one to few footsteps from the center and from the terminus of the Cable car.
I advise!

The staff is world class. Very friendly and accommodating, even for American standards.
The location is good. We did everything on foot or used Uber.
Our room was quiet, big enough and clean.
Wifi was very stable.
Only the waiting times at the elevator are a bit long and the motion detector in the room chosen unhappy.
If we visit San Fran again, we will be happy to come back.

This is very nice and well-maintained hotel. My room was nicely decorated and very clean. I had a queen-bed and it was a pretty standard-sized room. Pretty standard for San Francisco. The bathroom on the other-hand was very nicely updated and huge! I could have fit about 4 adults in the shower. It has a great location in south Nob Hill and nice area to walk to food and drink. Just don't walk too far down the hill into the Tenderloin at night.

Great hotel for a city tour. The room was clean and nicely decorated. The location is also quite good. Only a few minutes walk to Union Square, where many Hopon Hopoff buses leave. However, the hotel is not exactly in the best area.

Good hotel we came for the honeymoon, our agency recommended this hotel for the area. I must say that it is very convenient. We met so many married couples who were also on their honeymoon from Italy. Maybe they have an agreement with the agencies but I have to say that we didn't find ourselves badly.

Great rooms, central location, helpful staff. Parking is expensive. I would recommend the Bush Street Garage (Corner Bush and Polk Streets) overnight at $6 per night. Otherwise can't fault the hotel.

I went in 2000, when the name was York Hotel. I saw that you changed the name to the same title as the Alfred Hitchcock film that was filmed there! Well located, allowing tourists to get to know the city on foot. Good service, including from a Brazilian woman who worked at the company at the time. I recommend and recommend.

The location and service was perfect. They are undergoing major, lobby facing renovations, the noise doesn't stop from 8 am until 4 pm. Other than those minor annoyances, I could not have asked for a better experience from such a historic hotel.

Great location in the center of the city, walking distance to Union Square and a great piece of cinematic history for any Hitchcock fans. Make sure to go to the top floor and look down the stairs! Service was good and staff very attentive.

I enjoyed staying here. In an OK neighbourhood, near to Union Square. Staff were helpful and friendly. Room was clean, a decent size, had a tea/coffee machine with supplies refreshed daily. Couple of good little cafes nearby for breakfast and plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance. Would stay here again.

Great value! Well located, big rooms, clean and safe. Don't expect ultra modern or anything fancy. Place is kept well over the years, been coming back, and it remains a great place to stay at a convenient price.
The Hitchcock flavour does add a special touch!

We enjoyed our stay here very much. It is situated in a convenient location where most things of interest are within walking distance. The staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is unique in appearance and atmosphere. The room was clean and comfortable. Even the pillows were comfortable.

I wasn't actually able to stay here due to the shooting at LAX cancelling my flight. I was expecting to lose my 1st night's deposit but the management waived that penalty based on the tragedy. I didn't ask for a break (after all it wasn't their fault), but they proactively offered it when I mentioned why I had to cancel. I appreciate that gesture and look forward to staying at the Hayes Valley Inn in the future !!

Hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. Lobby and rooms are very well maintained and equipped. You can see the age of the hotel in certain aspects of the room, however in no way does this negatively impact the stay as everything is clean and in good order. Only one elevator can be a bit slow at times, however stairs are very open and accessible for times you don't have to worry about carrying heavy luggage. The hotel isn't in the greatest location in terms of the overall feel of the area (fair number of homeless nearby), however it is very central to all of the tourist attractions even though not overly close to any single one of them. Very much enjoyed my stay and would definitely recommend as a more affordable option for a stay in San Francisco.

Typical city hotel.

Typical city hotel.
Located within walking distance of various points of interest.
You can walk to the bus stop op-on op-off, which makes you visit the whole city.
Spacious and comfortable room suitable for everyone.
The hotel has an elevator and facilities for disabled people.
I really enjoyed it.

Stayed here for my bday and absolutely loved it. It's right in the middle of everything. There's an amazing pizza shop like 2 doors down called Bellisimo. So so good. There's a breakfast shop right across the street called Cozy Cafe that has great and simple breakfast, and lunch. Then if you need snacks or drinks or alcohol there's a little convenience store right next to the pizza shop. The staff at the hotel was so friendly and the hotel was so clean. They even brought up a bottle of wine to us. Definitely would stay here again and again.

Who knew Hotel Vertigo San Francisco was so affordable? As it turns out, they have a very stylish lobby, and even offer condoms and *ahem* lube in a jar at the concierge desk. Now that is first rate service! What's more off to the side you'll find this great little cafe called Birch which pulls a very damn good shot of espresso! They also have performances & art here in the lobby from time to time, so check back often!

Smoke alarm starting chirping. No help from staff other than having to change rooms, which was not fun in the middle the night. Pack, get dressed, go down to the lobby with all bags to switch keys. Next time have some nine volts on hand and run one up to the room, Vertigo. Or at least bring key to me and make the transfer as painless as possible.

The hotel was booked through our tour operator (America unlimited) and was the best hotel of our entire trip. The reception was very friendly - even late at night - everything was explained in detail. The room was very clean, air conditioning newer model - almost noiseless - very spacious bathroom with a pleasant bathtub and shower surface, vending machines for snacks and drinks. In the immediate vicinity there are pizzerias, shopping for just about everything you need on a trip.
The location is good to very good Should I go back to San Francisco - I would gladly book this hotel again.
