Not a comfy bed at all, our bathroom sliding door only shut 75% of the way, the walls are paper thin and you can really hear everything. The hotel also lacks any kind of Air Conditioning, which might be common in SF, but it was not advertised at all when we our based our room. It's not in the best area, but it is only a short walk to good food and union square. It's a pretty high price for a distinct lack of luxury, given how many places nearby have better rates with nicer rooms.

Stayed for 2 nights, good service from start to finish. No parking, about a 2 minute walk to parkade so not a big deal but still not your typical expectation of a hotel. Room wasn t very comfortable, and the bed was cheap. Looked clean, but it didn t feel clean at all. I d pay a bit more to stay somewhere newer next trip.

I would say the location is a mid range neighborhood in san fran. It's a half hour walk to at&t park and the cbd. The room was really nice, king size bed with nice linens. Flat screen, a sitting area and a small but serviceable bathroom. No ac, but there is a ceiling fan, and with san fran weather you won't miss it. Lots of night life and dining options around, and easy access to public transportation. Staff are super friendly and very helpful. The elevator can take some time if it's busy, but it wasn't that bad. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a place near at&t park or the cbd

Great location and very well presented hotel!

Great location and very well presented hotel!

Great staff too! On one of the nights a group of what can only be described as inconsiderate morons, decided to throw a massive party on their room. Really now, this is a boutique hotel... Not a Vegas penthouse suite. I rang down to reception in the small hours of the morning to complain and 5 minutes later, the staff threw these buffoons out of the room and made them carry on in the lobby.

A great place to stay in the heart of the city. Not too upscale, but certainly not a dump. Nice service, late check out at 1, coffee and tea, and plenty of character. Remember to get a photo of the stairs at the 8th floor.

We booked four nights here and enjoyed ourselves very much. Good location with proximity to everything. Experience it calm and cozy. Nice and very helpful staff. Recommended.

We were allowed as guests in April 2017, stay in the hotel and were with the rooms really to peace, clear in the middle of the city is a parking lot in short supply, but as a wheelchair you just depend on it and must accept the 45 Doller per night. But the car comes pretty fast by phone to the entrance. We would check in again! Greetings Petra and Gunter from Old Germany

This was our second time at Vertigo. The hotel is in a great location. The rooms are clean and very comfortable. The front desk staff are very nice and helpful. We always had a lot of fun in the evenings with Sam and Fernando. The two are great!

Cleanliness is ok. Only very expensive parking in the next garage, but this is standard for SF. Unfortunately, our room did not have a nice view. Asks for a room to the front. Then it's worth a star more.

Hidden charges for using resort not displayed anywhere on any hotel apps. Carpet is old and has an unpleasant odor. Also there's no hotel parking. On the other hand staff was great and very hospitable.

My room was dirty with other people's hair on the pillows, pubic hairs in the shower, bedside table had something previously spilled on it that was never cleaned up so was quite sticky. Bedside table lamp was no longer working. No soap in the bathroom. When I brought all of this to the attention to the person at the front desk it seemed as if it was some kind of inconvenience for them. While he acted concerned it really seemed like he just wanted to avoid the problem altogether so he promptly moved me to another room. I've stayed in many hotels in my time and rarely have issues, in the past at other hotels they immediately work to go above and beyond to correct the problem. Here it seemed like none of the rooms faults were that big of a deal to the guy working the front desk. Perhaps it's because he has become desensitized to these kind of complaints as I'm guessing he probably hears them all too often and is trained to do as little as possible for the guests.

I was moved to another room; while not nearly as bad as the previous one, it certainly could use some cosmetic help as the overall room had seen better days.

Not uncommon for hotels to have noise issues so I try to be forgiving on this one but should note there is little noise protection between the rooms and can easily hear conversations/television from adjacent rooms. Not fun when you have someone with the TV on at 1 AM.

My room also had a strong odor of marijuana as someone staying on my floor continually smoked marijuana in their room. Glad my kids weren't here.

Overall, I would not recommend this hotel. The rooms cleanliness standards are quite poor. The aesthetic, furniture, bathrooms, etc are all shoddy and in bad need of updates and money to be spent on them. Management doesn't seem concerned about making things right with their guests.

Plenty of good places to stay in San Francisco, this is not one of them.

I loved my stay. We loved our room and the "feel" of the age of the hotel. it was nicely situated in the city. My 9 year old granddaughter and I watched the movie (get from front desk). We both loved it. I plan to visit again.

Clean. friendly staff. Quite quiet the Friday night we stayed. Themed decor (from the Hitchcock movie). Discount parking on the next block. Orange + white, period furniture + accessories (60's, I think). We Lyft'ed to and from a party, which worked well. Plenty of nearby stores to buy a bottle of wine.

I was very bummed by this hotel. It was clean and the customer service was good. But parking was $25 down the street at the local garage and was not included in the price of the room. We got a basic king size room with no frills and it cost $330 for one night. The bathroom was zoned for ADA with no tub or enclosure and the floor became wet all over when using the shower. Elevator smelled like cigarettes. It's on the border of the Tenderloin and not in a very safe neighborhood after dark. As an Alfred Hitchcock fan, I was dismayed.

Good value for the price. Rooms are decent sized and the bathroom is slightly more spacious than the ultra-cramped design you usually find in SF hotels. Wi-Fi works well. Expect minimal amenities, and homeless people are guaranteed to be hanging out on the street asking for your change in the evening.

Worth mentioning that the rooms are freezing in the winter and since there is no central heating/air, you have to use an antiquated wall heater that blows hot air directly in your face. It's less than ideal.

Hotel right in San Francisco tidy and booked for 2 days ... we had a good breakfast across the street from the hotel ... San Francisco is nice with the first days cramp in your legs you recognized the tourist they say there .... we don't walk that!

Very cool place to stay. However, don't even think about parking on the street. Just valet park, even though it's not cheap. Front desk people were very friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and there's a good place across the street to get some breakfast.

My wife and I recently stayed at Hotel Vertigo for a quick weekend getaway. The reason we picked the hotel was due to price, location, and recent great reviews. We were very pleased with the hotel, cleanliness and great customer service. Greg at the front desk gave us some great ideas on sites to see and great places to eat. He's awesome. Started with a one night stay and extended it to three. Had no idea that anyone else was in the hotel--very quiet. We are already planning our next stay there.

I chose Vertigo Hotel as the stay for my wedding night. Online it appeared close to our ceremony destination and local family. It was desirable mainly because it was affordable and decorated nicely. I hoped it was unlike a previous experience where I ended up staying in an unsafe area based off of marketing lies. I was pleased when I arrived, as it was completely as it appears. Rooms were clean and spacious, with private bathrooms. The hotel staff were knowledgeable about it's history in Hitchcock's film, and happily accommodated our late arriving parents. They also offered safe parking for a small fee which was also helpful for our parents.
The only bummer was their private bar attached to the lobby has been closed, I believe indefinitely. That would have been a perfect place to hang out, and I was slightly disappointed it did not indicate online it was no longer open.
Overall I would definitely stay here again!

The attention when we arrived was good. The boy spoke English and Spanish. The room had a view of a brick wall about 50 cm from the window. You could hear the noise of the air conditioners as if you had them on top of them. The bed was like a torture machine, wanting to wake you up. There is no possibility of breakfast since there is no restaurant, but you can take a tea or a coffee. There is coffee maker in the room. Snacks and mini bar with additional cost, and clear expensive. Bus stop almost at the door. Only has an elevator that if it is rush hour takes a lot.

A hotel on a human scale, not huge but nice and in a very central area. From here in 15-20 minutes on foot you can reach many places in San Francisco. We were in 6 including 2 boys, found very well

So far I've had a very pleasant experience. I first arrived quite early in the morning, but the staff was helpful and let me leave my luggage until check-in time. When the time was right, check-in was quick and easy. The room was clean and stocked with an appropriate amount of towels and expected amenities. All the staff has been pleasant, exchanging greetings in passing, even the house-keepers. The only detracting comment I can make is that my mattress is noticably more worn on one side of the bed, but it hasn't affected my sleep or comfort.

The location is great. Just a bit off the beaten path of the famous parts of town but not too far out that you can't walk. The service is impeccable and has great recommendations. The only downside was that there was no AC but the charm and eclectic feel to this hotel make it amazing.

Really nice hotel. Very friendly staff (Soar and Fernando), clean rooms and above all a bathroom with a very spacious shower (not with the usual bathtub).
The area is very quiet, very well equipped at transport level and there is also a pizzeria attached to the hotel which is not bad.
Hotel recommended!

The only good thing about the hotel is its location. The floors in the room were uneven and had holes/gaps covered by carpet. The water in the bathroom had to be running for 5 minutes just to get hot water from the sink. The walls are so thin that you hear everything from other guests. When it comes to check out time they'll charge you hidden fees. Would never stay there again nor recommend anyone to.

Stayed there last month, the staff was always friendly, nice and helpful. In conversation we said we were on our silver wedding trip, and in the evening there was a small gift in the room, which was a nice touch.
Thanks again to Joan from the front desk.
The room was clean, and big enough, we had ours on the back yard, it wasn't that great, but we didn't spend that much time in the room either. Good location, would book it again.

If I could afford to stay somewhere else, I would have. But this was clean and reasonable, just not what I like. Room was sterile and unwelcoming (plain, no oicture walls) but shower was great.

Cozy, comfortable, like-home, non expensive, excellent location, close to everything, good design, awesome staff are few of the things I can say about this hotel. First time in San Francisco and they helped me a lot to get around and gave me very good information.
