So lovely! We had a great view of Parliament and the square. We enjoyed watching the guard. Breakfast buffet and rooftop restaurant were amazing!! The view of the Acropolis from the roof was spectacular. The central location was handy.

Love, love, love, love, love this hotel. The absolute finest in Athens. The service is beyond superb as well as the hotel itself and its location! The spa is also heavenly. We were celebrating our anniversary and the manager made sure it was extra special. The rooftop restaurant and bar have the best views too.

Located at the corner of central Syntagma Square, Hotel Grande Bretagne illustrious history began in 1842 as 90 room mansion opposite the palace of King Otto. This five star hotel now combines charming old-world elegance with modern facilities. GB Roof Garden, which offers views of the Parthenon and Kallimarmaro Stadium.

We came to have a drink at the "prestigious" rooftop bar expecting to receive a 5 star treatment from a 5 star establishment. However, what we actually received was disappointment and disapproving gazes from obnoxious staff members, who did not show us the courtesy to even bring a glass of water, let alone a drinks menu. After waiting for 25 minutes of no service we left without so much as an apology or a second look. Absolutely appalling and very disrespectful.

Bretagne is a grand hotel in every sense of the word. It has stood the test of time and remains a key part of the city of Athens. Located near the beautiful Parliament building with stunning Acropolis views, there is no finer hotel in the city. Don t forget to enjoy a drink on the roof at sunset.

Amazing wedding night in the Grand ballroom !!
Everything is perfect! From the chef, the food, the decoration, the serving, the music, the lighting, the drinks, all worthy of fame, and its history.

1. Spacious bedroom and bathroom (we only booked the second cheapest category); comes with a bathroom scale. Requested a room with a courtyard view to avoid street noise, and it worked.
2. Excellent service throughout the hotel.
3. Buffet breakfast was disappointing, though: selection not as big as expected; food not very tasty, especially the bacon and the scrambled egg; and no sparkling wine available for buffet breakfast unlike at other luxury hotels in Europe.
4. Roof garden has a great view of the Acropolis and attentive staff, but the food for dinner was as disappointing as what was offered for breakfast. Pasta dishes are especially to be avoided: the ravioli was too salty, and the linguistini was way too al dente. The Tudor Hall restaurant at Hotel King George next door was much better in terms of food, and the view it offered of the Acropolis was just as spectacular.
5. Still, a great hotel overall speaking.

The hotel was founded in 1866 by Savvas Center with an origin from Epirus and was originally settled in a building on Stadiou and Karagiorgi Street in Serbia. [3] Benizelos Rufos was the first customer to be considered. In 1874 the hotel business was relocated to the Antonios Dimitrios mansion, which was erected in 1842 and housed until today. [3] In 1878 Efstathios Lampsas entered the shareholding. [3]

In 1888 the hotel was one of the first buildings in Athens to be electrified.

In the early days of December, the hotel served as the headquarters of Prime Minister George Papandreou, the Council of Ministers and British General Ronald Skobie. Later on for security reasons the Council of Ministers moved to the historic villa of Papandreou in Kastri along with Cities Police Chief Angelos Evert. At the end of 1944, EAM put explosives on the foundations of his hotel to blow it up, while murdering Churchill, who was wrongly believed to have been there. [4] The operation was canceled due to the intervention of a British patrol.

In 2006, the hotel closed for one year and underwent a total renovation (costing 112 million euros) to return to its old glory. The modernized building now has 384 rooms (79 suites), including 2 Royal Suites of 550 square meters, overnight costs up to 32,000 euros.

I've been a travel agent for over 30 years and have stayed at some of the worlds finest hotels. Recently, I had the pleasure of staying here and cannot say enough good things about the hotel and the staff. When planning a visit, be sure to make dinner reservations in advance at their GB Rooftop restaurant and ask for an Acropolis view table if possible. The food and ambiance as well as the staff and views were outstanding. This hotel has an outdoor pool which is great for Athens in the heat of the summer. In addition, they have an incredible spa and indoor pool with 5 or 6 complimentary spa experiences which were like nothing I have experienced at any other hotel in the world. It also had an amaxing gym facitily as well. The hotel location is excellent and just minutes walking to the Athens Plaka area. Butler service is available in some rooms although we didn't find that to be much of a draw. Our room had breakfast included which was one of the best breakfast buffets I have had in all of Europe. The room was beautiful - request an Acropolis view room so you can see it lit up at night from your balcony. The pillows were fantastic and the room was quite large for Europe as well. It is not the least expensive hotel in Athens but I assure you, it is well worth the expense if you have time to relax and enjoy the hotel while in Athens.

Enjoyed an afternoon tea as a birthday treat. We ordered one portion as two would have been too much for us. Service was very good and quick, there was attention to details and given two glasses of free champagne as a birthday treat. I will recommend

Hotel Grande Bretagne is nothing less than heaven ...

Hotel Grande Bretagne is nothing less than heaven on Earth. To give this experience, not hotel, but experience less than five stars is irreprehensible.

My (pregnant) wife & I mistakingly booked a suite at the roach motel, also known as the Hotel E****a. Upon contacting American Express & being immediately redirected to Hotel Grande, we were greeted at the main entrance by the most amazingly hospitable & compassionate Staff we could have ever imagined.

Not only did they wisk us away to the beautiful restaurant for free brunch & drinks, but they went above & beyond to ensure we were comfortably settled in our room & that our stay was unforgettable.

From the beautiful rooftop restaurant with a ridiculous breakfast buffet & astonishing view, to the elegant, yet relaxing cigar lounge, to the gorgeous banquet room with live pianist, Hotel Grande is vacation within a vacation. There were nights we had to force ourselves out of the Hotel to experience the surrounding city of Athens.

The Management & Staff treated us like family. I've read other reviews describing the staff as rude & racially profiling, which is completely ridiculous. We are a biracial American couple & were treated with the upmost respect & attentiveness. The Staff bent over backwards to accommodate us in every way. If we had a problem, they didn't 'suggest' a solution...they took ownership & went above & beyond to resolve it.

The Hotel is unbelievable, the views are breathtaking, the amenities are second to none & the rooms are magnificent. If you are ever fortunate enough to experience Athens, don't deny yourself the best accommodations the city has to offer.

A truly luxurious hotel evident in everything. From the grandiose of the building to the lush decoration, furniture, marble flooring and carpets. The customer service is exactly what you get in high end places. Outstanding and a bit cold at the same time. Spa facilities are excellent and the hair salon not as expensive as you would expect. Not what you can say about the restaurant, which even though is marvellous, it is a bit dear. It does worth it though as the quality is of very high standards and the views out of this world!!!

The view is priceless

The view is priceless
The Prosecco affordable
The service perfect
