The experience was great!
I visited Homewood on 12/30/2015 with my brother and another family friend. After arriving at about 11:00 a.m., we parked at the main parking lot which was conviniently located at the base of the slopes. Parking was short, but additional street parking was offered. Within five minutes, we had bought out lift tickets. Unlike Boreal, the crowd was managed very well - the crowds were same as Boreal but no lines were present.
After ten minutes, we joined the bunny slope line in order to warm up. One bad thing about Homewood is that the bunny slope lifts are simply poles hanging from a cable which you have to hang on to. They are slow, single rider at a time, and difficult to use. We then went to the Madden triple chair, which was unfortunately a Yan lift. These lifts are unimaginably slow, hard to board, and have no safety bar. This lift was slightly faster and much easier to board than other Yan lifts, but the ride to mid-mountain took about 9 minutes.
We skied for hours riding the advanced blue slopes and trying out the terrain park. The view was excellent, and the trails were groomed very well. The resort had an excellent mountain, with a bunny slope coming all the way from the summit to the base. Blues of different levels covered a large portion of the 1200 acres, many of which provided as a transition from green to blue and blue to black. Double black diamonds were also located at Homewood, offering a great view of the lake.
We rode the Old Homewood Express, which was the best express chairlift I had gone on. Within 4.5 minutes, we were at the summit. The blue slopes were perfect, with a right mix of packed powder and loose powder.
The Ore Car trail, which serves as a connection from the mountain to the North Lodge, was narrow, icy, and neglected. The sign pointing to the trail had fallen down, and a long uphill stretch was required in order to reach the slope. If you want to ski from top to base and do not want to ski on a black diamond, take the Lombard Street Slope. Unfortunately, you cannot ski at high speed down a small section of this winding slope, but it is an excellent slope for all levels, as it is wide and groomed very well.
Overall, Homewood was a great resort offering views of the lake, excellent powder, and a large variety of trails. I also liked the ski school and the cafeteria. Homewood is an everyone's resort, with trails ranging from beginner to expert. Visitors and non-skiers can walk all the way up the bunny slope and give instruction to their kids. I think Homewood is the best family resort I have been to. I suggest that if you want to go skiing and are any level below extreme expert, Homewood is the place for you.
