Hollywood Theatre's Breaking Bad showings were a big highlight for me when I visited the more revamped theatre. I had only visited the theatre as a kid and wasn't very impressed with the facilities, but after watching a couple of episodes of Breaking Bad for free at their theatre, I was very impressed with all the work they've done to improve the branding and entirety of the Hollywood Theatre. I'd recommend looking into some of the events to hold.

Oh I was in love with this theatre, it's so classic, really damn cheap too. Beer is 4 bucks! They have several products like beverages, popcorn, ice cream, snacks, etc. The theatre is so old school and seats are comfortable.

This is a great neighborhood theater. Definitely not your Cineplex type. They focus more on art type films and indie films. The architecture and decoration are wonderful. Comfortable seating with table top area in front to put your food and drink on. Very affordable. Only handicap accessible on the lower floor, some movies you have to go up stairs to get to.

this place is more expensive than the budget theatre's i cherish but they have killer pizza at the "pie hole" from next door atomic pizza, good beer and charming theatre spaces. they also host some of the more creative film fests, most recently an eco fest and animation festival! i mean where else can i go to sex themed animation afternoon on mother's day?!

tip: always buy tix online before hand and you won't risk missing out. the smaller theatre's sell out fast for any newer film.

My favorite theatre in all of Portland. Seats are actually comfortable for an old school theatre. The biggest screen they have (on the first floor) works great for sci fi movies.

When you want to escape the modern "Hollywood *Blockbuster* Movie Machine", Portland's Hollywood Theatre is the ideal location.

First off, this movie theater has existed here in Portland for over 90 years and is named for the Portland neighborhood of Hollywood, not the shiny LA tourist mecca (albeit, the neighborhood was named after the movie capital... another story for another time), so don't make assumptions about this venue being from Hollywood (CA).

In 90 years, this theater has hosted vaudeville, silent movies (with live accompaniment), 35mm films, 70mm films, Circarama cinema, fashion shows, was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, and most dramatically, in 1997 was engulfed in a devastating fire. Since the fire, the Hollywood became an educational and historic non-profit jewel of Portland and has spent the last 2 decades providing opportunity and education to the region while continuing restoration to the facility.

While I can recommend the Hollywood Theatre for the first run films it screens, I find the extras that only the Hollywood provides as fantastic unique opportunities. Nowhere else have I enjoyed so many different, varied, and unique cinema experiences (especially since I HAVE lived in Hollywood, CA). Among my favorite *events* at Hollywood include: Gay, and, Black film festivals, seeing/re-seeing 70mm films (Lawrence of Arabia, 2001) on the big screen in their original format, ability to view the annual Oscar nominee "shorts" reels, attending the live Academy Award broadcasts in black tie, seeing silent films (esp, the theater's original feature, More Pay, Less Work) with *in-house* organ accompaniment, losing at "The Movie Quiz" trivia nights, finally re-seeing the "Star Wars Holiday Special" after nearly 40 years, finally seeing classic *Walt era* Disney animated features (Sleeping Beauty) not on video or public library quality film, and lastly, my favorite (film buffs, don't judge): the annual presentation of the Internet Cat Video Festival, on the big screen.

This theatre is beautiful. There are always interesting films and festivals hosted here. There are many fantastic theatres in the city, and this is one of the ones worth checking into on a regular basis. love having a reason to come here when I'm in Portland.

Pretty cool historic theater. Great concessions at very reasonable prices. The only downside is really the seats, which are old and not the greatest. It definitely gets pretty busy sometimes so you will want to come a bit early for sure.

This place is great. From new releases to obscure movies from the past, this theater truly does it all. You can watch new releases in digital format, regular showings of 35mm films and they have one of the only 70mm projectors in Oregon. Plus they are next door to the best pizza place in Oregon, and you can order pizza by the slice from their lobby and take your pizza into the movie with you. They have regular star appearances and Q&A's with them, it's a very cool place to be for any film lover.

The Hollywood theater is a gem, preserving much of the charm of the landmark both inside and out. It's 70mm equipment make it unique in Oregon and rare in the us for showing beautiful large format movies. Their programming is creative and interesting, and even better than typical art house fare. We are so lucky to have it.

The upstairs theaters are in desperate need of oiling. At least half of the chairs violently creak at the slightest movement. I love the theater but the ear-splitting creaking is enough to ruin a movie, so I avoid Hollywood Theatre unless it's a special event or I know the movie is playing downstairs.

I love this place. My wife took me here to see _The Princess Bride_ on our anniversary. I had never seen it on the big screen. They also bring many foreign films and festivals to Portland. Top notch!

The Hollywood theater is by far the best movie theater in Portland and one of the finest cinema arts preservation programs in the country. Their dedication to film is unparalleled, bringing every genre, every style to their massive screen and sharing their love and passion with film goers of all ages.

Very retro, love the ambiance and the PRICE! Great deal and a great experience. I'm a Beaverton native and my partner only recently introduced me to this place and the awesome movie selection; it's a bit of a trek for us but it's still 100% worth the trouble. Plus, the Hollywood District is generally awesome as well; there are countless awesome restaurants literally within a stone's throw of the theater (a great soul food joint shares the building complex) and it's just generally a great place to come for a night out.

It was our first visit to Hollywood Theather. It was a great experience. Nice to walk the area around the theather, good restaurants, a great wine bar across the street and just down from that a place that makes and sells beer. We tood advantage of a Mexican restaurant next to the theater. The selection of movies is unique and we will be back. We would not have know about it, if it were not for the deal on Groupon. We will be back.

Beautiful Portland landmark. If you ever get the chance to, come watch a movie here. They do a great job of curating excellent films and bringing events to the area. The chairs are a little lack luster, but it s such a beautiful theater with great movies so it s totally okay!

I've been coming to this place since my grandparents brought me here in the 50's. Portland has lost a lot of gorgeous old movie palaces over the years. Thank heavens the Hollywood survived and is now a vibrant, inestimable part of our cinema scene due to its not-for-profit status. And every time I go there, I enjoy it both for what it is and for what it was in my childhood memories.

Really? They won't let you stand inside on a cold rainy night. Never been to this Theater, but only because it's a special showing of SAO. Like preferred seating theaters much better.

UPDATE.... THEY WERE KIND ENOUGH TO LET US ALL COME IN AND STAND INSIDE, OUT OF THE COLD RAIN... THEY HAVE A HEART!

It's kind of run down in spots, but it wouldn't be charming if it wasn't. They show great movies, often something you probably weren't aware of, and they even show popular TV shows for those without cable, like The Walking Dead and the such. Treat yo'self.
