I love this place except the seats are extra close together. Went to see Set It Off play and it was so good. The theatre is pretty cool. There's a garage for parking and it's pretty easy to get in and out. Overall, nice venue.
My first time attending. Loved it. Laughed so hard. Can't wait to return.
The Hobby Center is THE place in Houston for great cultural entertainment. It s been around for forever and is well maintained and always a pleasant experience. Have to give the staff kudos because they manage to get everyone through the bathrooms during a 15 min intermission. I will say, their alcoholic drinks are overpriced and not very good. Definitely grab a drink before you go to your show.
The facility is really nice. It can be a little bit difficult to find parking (there is a pay lot right behind the center). Food and drink on-site can be pretty expensive, but the food was actually better than I expected. There were several choices too.
Loved seeing the King and I! We were all the way in the back in gallery left, and there isn't a bad seat in the house. Comfortable seats, and a great performance.
Great venue for music and shows. Restaurant on site was a bonus. Nice way to spend an evening. Would like to see them schedule more music.
Great seats even on the mezzanine level. No obstructed views and the sound was great. The preforming cast of OKLAHOMA was fantastic.
I always like the shows. I saw Lion King, excellent!
Great place to take students. Wondering experience. Very professional and friendly.
Excellent facility for a musical. Went to see Spamilton. Fantastic show. Great performers!!
The staff at the Hobby Center are top notch. Very friend and extremely helpful. Made us feel right at home.
Overall it was a wonderful experience.
Wonderful show and helpful staff. From the moment I arrived everyone was willing to help and gude patrons.
Great seats, nice acoustics, and awesome performance!
Great acoustics and visual presentation. Drinks were very expensive. Professional well dressed staff. Reasonable priced tickets and decent seats.
Great venue, for whatever performance you are seeing.
I attended Wicked On Sunday, July 24 at 2pm. The show was fantastic so I have absolutely nothing but great comments about the production. However I was taken back by the rude and unacceptable behavior of the Usher at the performance. I understand that photos are not allowed during the performance but he was walking up and down the aisle shouting at people not to take pictures of the hall -not even a selfie prior to the performance. This is absolutely ridiculous. He was shooting his laser light at people to get their attention if they didn't hear him shouting. A friend of mine attended another performance and stated that this did not occur at her performance. When I got up to answer an emergency call from the hospital where I worked, he didn't want to let me out of the door. These events almost ruined the entire performance for me. I paid $150 for my ticket and could not believe the unacceptable treatment that I received. I am a member of the Houston Ballet and their Ushers are very professional and allow pictures to be taken before and after performances. I will think twice before returning to see another show at this venue.
My latest trip out to The Hobby Center was to see Beauty and the Beast put on by Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS). The production level was very high and my family and I really enjoyed the play. We really appreciated them casting students with special needs in the ensemble and as Chip. To show the world that they can contribute to the arts was a very powerful statement. Thanks TUTS.
Great theatre and some of the best touring shows come through there.
First time visiting. I saw the Nutcracker Ballet. Great place.
Saw Hamilton and Book of Mormon here. Great staff and beautiful stage. Love the theater.
Very nice layout. Amazing staff to guide people. Gallery seats seems to be the best option to watch the whole show. Gives you a great overview but pick the middle.
Lovely little theater, we were able to find street parking nearby to see Hamilton, which was surprising. The theater allows you to have a great view of the stage from where ever you're seated which we appreciated.
The ceiling was really pretty and performance was extremely good.
The seats have you like sardines but the view(s) are good pretty much anywhere. Very good sound system too..
The Hobby Center is a beautiful and essential asset to downtown Houston. Check out the Texas night sky on the ceiling of the main hall. TUTS does great musicals with local talent. They add a unique and interesting flavor to the musicals we know and love. Valet pick up gets busy after the show. Other than that I have only positive things to say.
Awesome venue for musical theater! Saw a preview of what is going to be showing for the new season at the open house.
Great venue. Love "bistro" option for pre-show meal.
The play was kinda dead except for the DaBrat. They didn't have play Bill's, which was tacky to me. But I guess if it was a hood production than not having something is a part of the plan. I would recommend it to anyone.
Great venue for concerts though the bass and loudness of the Satriani G3 tour was overwhelming in the Hobby Center. It would have been better to hear it outside. I went to hear the guitar work by the master musicians and couldn't really hear them.
Can not recommend this venue enough. All the employees were so nice and helpful. The place itself was very clean. After seeing River Dance here I can not wait to purchase tickets to another show. I do not recommend the attached restaurant "Artista" as everyone there was very rude and surprisingly unfriendly.
The show was fantastic but the facilities management was just OK. The bars were under staffed for intermission, there was a hawker totally out of place selling bottles of beer out of a clear plastic tub on a wire rack in a sea of people dressed up for the theater, and the restrooms could not handle the half-time rush. An extremely disappointing experience for the level of productions they are attracting.
Excellent service, nice drinks and food while you wait for your show to begin and beautiful performances by talented singers and dancers! Dreamgirls was amazing!
My husband and I went to see The Color Purple. It was great
Our first time to visit...we attended a reception, followed by a musical in the theater. The facility was excellent. Valet parking was extremely well run, entering and exiting although expensive..,but other parking very close. Security on entering was plentiful and quick. The theater itself was impressive and well presented. Will look forward to the next opportunity.
This is a first class performing hall. I've been as an audience member, or today, as a performer. Both experiences are good ones.
Parking was easier than I'd expected. Seating was great, and theatre was beautiful.
Amazing experience, I would totally recommend coming. I would entirely go again in the future.
We always love our Hobby Center performances. Good parking, very comfortable theater seats. Great location for "our" TUTS.
Beautiful theater, great acoustics & very helpful staff to help.
Great venue! Beautiful layout and clear sound throughout. Hard not to appreciate the full scope of this wonderful establishment!
I enjoy coming to the Hobby Center for shows, and it was my first time to the TUTS Underground theater. It's smaller but you have a great view, even from the back of the 2nd floor. Parking is easy, and it's even easier to get nearby cheaper parking if you choose not to park in the Hobby Center garage.
The musical was fantastic the sitting was awesome the food was terrific
Loved seeing multiple Broadway across America shows here.
Saw Dreamgirls here last weekend. The production was great. Good music and beautiful costumes. Plenty of seating, nice bar and bistro food. Can't wait for the next show!
Nice viewing for stage performances. Comfortable seats. Nice lobby are for gathering and meeting your friends.
Very friendly staff with more than enough directions and guidance throughout the venue. Very clean within all of the facility . Sound quality was good. Right Gallery seats row C 11,12,13 for Tedeski Trucks concert were great and not overpriced if you take time to visit their box office.
Still okay. Parking garage is terrible. They have metal detectors now.
Great theater. Great performance of Paw Patrol Live for the kids. However. The parking experience was horrendous. No coordination with another event blocking off access to the theater parking garage. Poor coordination of valet, causing traffic to back up. Rude police officer striking my vehicle upon entering the valet line, and excessively high $25 valet price. The event was not coordinated properly for a kids/family audience on a Saturday morning.
Friendly staff. Open second floor balcony with view of skyline. Fantastic performances. Only negative point is the traffic on exiting garage due to proximity to highway and congested roads.
Went to see the Wizard of Oz and the seating was perfect! The pqrking was greqt, except people double parked. The bathrooms were spacous and clean. The urshers were helpful and friemdly.
Please go to see the Broadway production of Hello Dolly. The musical score, costumes, and choreography are amazing.
im very disappointed in the hobby center! i wish i wasn't but i am! this place is awesome and i love going there for the musicals but i just cant believe that when asked if they could help out a local to announce a pregnancy, they deny it! it would've just been nice for them to do something special or try to work with me as i was trying to announce this huge surprise to my husband but they basically told me i'm on my own and to just take a picture with the poster or do it on the balcony. not really asking for much but i expected at least someone there with a heart to help someone with special news.
One of my favorite venues in Houston. TUTS and traveling Broadway productions give a choice of 12 shows a year. Easy garage parking, plus free valet parking for Lexus owners! Also, great balcony with a stunning view of Houston downtown. Also, many interesting shows on the second stage.
Shows are always good, food at Artista's is always excellent!
Great venue for an evening out on the town, great shows!
My first time here two weeks ago. We saw "Oklahoma", which is one of my favorites. It was awesome. Loved the collaboration with the Houston Ballet. Hope to be back again soon .
A primo performance space in Houston Texas theater district. We go there with our season tickets to TUTS.
Beautiful hall and the performances here have always been up to my expectations. I love local and professional theatre and have been treated with exactly that by visiting Sarofim Hall.
