Super awesome! Beautiful building, the exhibition (about the Romanovs) was like walking through a history book. Here and there some carelessness, such as a hair behind a framed piece, a loose sticker and spelling errors on the plates. Creative use of light and sound!

Beautiful and overwhelming.

Beautiful and overwhelming.
Nice picture of history with the abundance that came with it in this context.

Beautiful exhibition about groups in old Amsterdam. Signage in the museum is very poor. In addition, it is very bland that a photo of a museum year card is not enough while it can be scanned as well. That is why, despite the annual museum card, you still have to pay an entrance fee. Again very bland.

The 10-year anniversary exhibition "De Schatkamer / Treasury" is outstanding. I loved the idea of pairing two works of art from different periods / geographical areas, and comparing them for apparent similarities and differences. Really well curated and explained (with a special mention for the audio guide).

Beautiful museum with exhibitions that are definitely worth seeing. Only to the price because you have to pay for just about everything. Outside the Museum Card. That saves a star. Furthermore, this museum is highly recommended for every Amsterdammer and anyone who spends a day (or more) in Amsterdam.

Beautiful exhibition with the jewels of the Tsaren family and clothing that they wore at the time. You spend around 90 minutes viewing. The Hermitage is easily accessible by public transport.

A relief in the landscape of classical arts! You will be guided through an exhibition in a story, with inspiring interactive light shows and funny anecdotes. Highly recommended (even if you have to pay 2.50 extra with a museum card!)

Nice

We have seen permanent udstilling Masterpieces from Hermitage , Portrait Gallery of The Golgen Age , Panorama Amsterdam and Outsider Art Gallery. In Masterpieces from Hermitage you can admire a special exhibition, where you can see pairs of pieces of art, depicting the same topic by artists from different countries, cultures or centuries. Perfect idea!
Portrait gallery and panorama exhibition are depicting social history of Amsterdam in the golden age in many aspects from social service, medicine and art to everyday life. Really informative and well done!
In Outsider Art Gallery there was Art Brut exhibition. Very special and inspiring!
It was a very well spent 4 hours in Hermitage!

Beautiful collection of paintings and other valuables of the Romanovs from Russia.
There is also a beautiful exhibition about the Dutch of the Golden Age.
The pastries in the Hermitage restaurant are quite expensive. This is a minus.

The museum "the Hermitage" is located in the Amste...

The museum "the Hermitage" is located in the Amstelhof building, located on the Amstel river between the Nieuwe Herengracht and the Nieuwe Keizersgracht. It was originally built in 1681 as a nursing home and remained for more than 300 years.

Architect Hans van Heeswijk converted the nursing home into a branch of the Hermitage in St. Petersburg (the old Leningrad), after the nursing home was transferred to the municipality of Amsterdam in 1999 by the manager.

There are two monumental exhibitions each year, which are more than worth a visit. There is always an exhibition from the collection of the State Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg. In addition, from the collection of the Amsterdam Museum, you can view the famous 17th century Dutch group portraits from the Dutch Golden Age, in the exhibition Hollanders of the Golden Age.

The Hermitage was officially opened on 19 June 2009 by former Queen Beatrix and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. On 20 June 2009 it was opened to the public. After just over a year, the millionth visitor was registered, making it one of the top attractions in Amsterdam. From 2004 to 2011 Ernst Veen waved the scepter of the Hermitage. The current director is Cathelijne Broers, who fulfills her task with great enthusiasm. She regularly publicizes her activities within the Hermitage.

When you enter the Hermitage, you are the first to arrive in the beautiful courtyard-shaped garden. The entrance of the building is wheelchair friendly and there is an elevator to move yourself upstairs. The welcome hall is well-arranged with glass walls on both sides, which gives you as a visitor a great view to both sides.

A salient detail is that on the top floor you have a nice view of the hall below. The catering industry is well represented, serves small and large dishes, lunch and even a 3 course dinner. The pricing is in the higher segment. When you leave the museum you pass an excellently equipped museum shop, where you can pick up your heart on art books, accessories and much more.

All in all, the Hermitage is good for a nice day out, after which in the evening after a delicious dinner, you can go to the nearby theater Carree to end the day with a magnificent theater performance.

Beautiful Russian jewelery and impressive cacophony of impressions at the Wim van Genk exhibition. And thanks to covid19 measures sufficient peace and space to view all the art properly.

The Friday that I was there, it was quiet. All time taken for the extra exhibition. This museum has many masterpieces and a particularly clear explanation on these pieces. Closing time came unexpectedly fast, so you go into the collection.

It is a shame that the building inside is no longer preserved in its original state. The inside of the building is now too modern. Collection was well set up and there is a pleasant flow through all the museum pieces. Lunchroom is spacious and light, but staff behaves rather high.

Last Sunday, Sept. 10, visited exhibition of the Romanovs. Unfortunately insanely busy. I left after half an hour. Want to enjoy all the beauty in a reasonably quiet area. Think the hermitage should enter a visitor stop.

Enjoyed my visit to the Golden Age of Portrait exhibition at the Hermitage today. It is well presented, interactive and gives thorough insights into the Dutch society of the 17 century. It is not so busy as the other popular museums in Amsterdam which is a bonus as you can enjoy it at your own pace. There are a lot of green areas by the museum to chill and relax. I also recommend the Dignita cafe in the grounds!

It is a very large museum with an endless variety of works of art, paintings, sculptures, furniture and antiques. Divided into several rooms with chronology and periods in which they passed and prove the evolution of world art. I enjoyed the tour! Suggestion: reserve at least four hours to honor the collection!

This review is only for the Spanish Masters currently on display. Only 1 El Greco, and some 2nd or 3rd tier paintings mostly from not very well known artists. Not worth the ticket. Like the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, the lighting could be a lot better.

Amazing museum - however there are no staff to manage crowds in the Jewels exhibition. I understand it s hard times but I was so overwhelmed by too many people that I left the exhibition without even seeing the second half. Don t bother going at peak times.

Beautiful, informative exhibition Classic beauties. Do not skip Finnish outsider art, special! Also interesting section about history Amsterdam with militia pieces. Beautiful building. Enjoy and especially visit the Dignita restaurant, located in the Hoftuin, my favorite restaurant in Amsterdam. Social enterprise, eat well, do good!

It's an art museum, but they very effectively use art to teach Dutch history. The audio tour is very informative. It's a little pricy, however. Do note, they charge on top of a museum card.
