I'm own a small residential property management brokerage and I have had the privilege of working with Alex Rochon (association manager at HELM for yacht club condos). I can tell you most HOA management companies are very poor at communication or the person on the other end of the phone is not happy to be speaking with you or happy at all to be honest. Alex is a different breed of association manger. Super patience, friendly and understanding. We had some issues with getting a front gate opened up for a move but Alex stepped up and solved the problem. Then we had to gain access to the roof and again Alex stepped up and had his maintenance man there after hours to let our HVAC tech in. Didn't need to go over and above but he did cause he understood the challenges we had on our end. Thanks Alex! HELM you better take good care of Alex he's an all-star employee. ***First review ever written for an HOA management company.

I've been with Helm for 8 years and have never had...

I've been with Helm for 8 years and have never had a problem.
They took care of everything the time the main sewer pipe flooded.
Another time I wanted to add a ceiling fan to the unit I own. I was worried running a wire through the common wall would be an issue. I was thinking about just doing it and not telling anyone. Instead, I ran it by Helm and they approved without any hassle.

Very difficult with cash payments (debit or check)...

Very difficult with cash payments (debit or check) the check has to be mailed or dropped off at their location ("last century" kind of process) , finally they put in place an online service an online services for credit cards and there is a 3% fee to pay by credit card. WHO HAS CASH NOW DAYS?????

Poor customer services - Rochelle seems to be putting the phone away while I was talking, she is unprofessional, and impatient as well.

This is one the situation when you want to change the service, and you cant do anything about it!
Very disappointed on HELM Management - as they need management for their own business.

I'm surprised to see negative comments about Helm as I've found them truly the most professional management company from a Realtor's perspective. I've interacted with them countless times over the last decade when listing condos for sale in the La Mesa and Downtown San Diego communities.

They have not been very helpful with an insurance claim from 2 years ago. My insurance company has been trying to get in contact with HOA and their insurance company; however, they will not return calls. My home has been incomplete since payment was stopped.

the "So called security guard" at parklane isn't securing anything. he sit in the " club house or smoke room smoking cigarettes. Board member live here and she say nothing! I dont feel safe or " Secure" here. "The Helm" is about "Profit" not about the owner or kids. they make it clear kids are not "Welcomed" bunch of "Old Farts" complaining.. James was the "Best" security guard/homeowner. Mike...What a waste of money/time. Ok! pay him to sit and smoke cigarettes.thats where HOA dues go! kml...stupid!

The HOA dues changed. But Helm failed to change their auto withdrawal. Then they charged late fees for not paying the correct amount that their system failed to draw.

Also average response time by Will seems to be getting longer and longer.

The pool has been closed, supposedly due to covid, since February of 2020 and it's November. Meanwhile HOA payments are going up from $390 to $410 per month. This is during a time where people can barely afford rent. Less amenities at a higher cost; only in America.

I live at Casa De Alvarado and contacted Helm Management, who serves as the property manager for my community's HOA, and was told that regardless of the issue I'm facing, I'm not allowed to contact them because I'm not an owner. Somebody broke down a door to a public space (a laundry room) that is managed by this company. I called them and when I tried to explain the situation to the woman who took my call, she rudely interrupted and spoke over me, stating that I need to contact my property management company so they can contact the owner so the owner can contact them, a process which will take multiple days. Their complete disregard for the safety of the spaces they manage is absolutely appalling.

Not a fun company to deal with once you move out. Read your lease and know where your deposit will go once you're out. This company took advantage of our money once we left and that's $450 we will not get back from 'cleaning' charges...oh and the $15 charge for the 'spiderweb removal' in the garage. Not even something we did, but a totally natural thing that happens yet we paid for it.

It's sack when you know there's only four owners living in it & rest of it which I think over 60 unit are renting bc
1- not assign parking
2- I said that there's 4 owners living inside the complex
They are like eyes watching & reporting day & night
So don't move there when you have kids or have a lot friends coming visit or make party

The email responses were a little slow. However, I give them 4 stars because the management was willing to work with me when I was behind on my HOA payments for a few months due to the change of management and I wasn't aware of it. They waived the late fees. This is unlike Prescott Companies at W. Bernardo Dr for the same situation, unwilling to waive any late charges despite the problem was partially the management transition problem. I haven't dealt with Helm for any other issues, so I can't vouch for other things.

Completely incompetent. They do not know or understand the laws effecting HOA's. They are completely unresponsive to homeowners. Any HOA hiring this company is wasting their money - in my opinion.

Very Unprofessional Board President (Property Manager, Maggie) on site at Tangerine Terrace. She make HELM look bad. Only focus is on handing out violation but not the upkeep, complains or concerns of those living on property. She yells at the children playing outside and tenants who she comes across. Very Prideful and Nasty lady. Been here for 3 years; still have a broken front gate knob (that I have reported) Torn pool area lounge and seating chairs that were finally thrown out but never replaced. Stucco on exterior building has cracks coming into rooms and still not addressed.

My parents have a time share property and they both passed away. It has been a nightmare dealing with Helm management to change over the new property owner's name. We live out of state and it has been no easy feat. You would think in a situation such as this, they would be happy to help, but they have proven themselves to be anything but. Multiple phone calls go unreturned. No one is available or in the office to "deal" with you. After reading other reviews about this company (none of them outstanding recently) I can't wrap my head around how companies like this can stay in business. Utterly and completely dissatisfied. Maybe if they sent out performance surveys they'd get a clue how bad they really are?

I live in a Condo complex managed by Helm. Most of my pleasant encounters were with Brindy, she's since left the company. I have dealt with Ron, Will & Angel and I have experienced timely, efficient results. Whenever, I email them, I receive a response within 4-hours and the resolutions are quick.

So far I haven't experienced any negative results from Helm and I have been dealing with them for 3-yrs now.

The Helm Property Management is the best management company I have ever dealt with. Our HOA has been with The Helm since 2006 and they are quick to respond, organized with financial advice/management and have gotten us set up with reliable reputable and reasonable vendors. As a RE Broker I have occasion to deal with various management companies and The Helm is first rate! I have and will continue to recommend The Helm to other HOAs looking for new management.
