The care provided at this memory care facility is exceptional. The staff is attentive and caring, and they go above and beyond to ensure the well-being of the residents. It would be easy to simply walk away and not write a review. I believe they use that to their advantage. But what goes on behind closed doors needs to be reported. The food there is terrible, and there are zero activities. The staff is decent enough but they are overworked and underpaid. In the short amount of time I resided there they went through four directors, 4 or 5 activity directors, 3 maintenance men, and many many caregivers. The administration is what's behind all of it and I want to make it perfectly clear that it's not the staff. The staff does what they can with limited resources, and worse yet they're not appreciated for all they do. They claim that they have nursing care 24/7. In reality, there is NO NURSE on the premises between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. The nurse is only "on call" between those hours. There is also only one CNA on staff between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. I am not exaggerating when I say that 80% of the time, the lights get turned off at 9:00 p.m. and the CNA's fall asleep and do not answer their call light. Lastly, you can go weeks asking to see a doctor or a psychiatrist before you finally see one. Run, do not walk, as far away from this facility as you can. Don't believe the administration. They lie to cover up another lie. The residents who can voice their concerns are leaving. Little is reported because those of us who left are just thankful to have gotten out.
So grateful for Harbor House. My mother has dementia and has received excellent care for the past 5 years. Warm, skilled at working with dementia symptoms and flexible is how I would describe the team. We researched the top care facilities in the area and I can say with confidence that Harbor House is the best. I offer this feedback having previously cared for my father for over a decade who also suffered from dementia and now my mother. My perspective is also informed by my professional training/experience as a licensed clinical social worker with over 22 years experience as a therapist and administrator in the mental health field. Our family I would like to express our gratitude for the great care the Harbor House has given my loving husband and father. He has not been the most pleasant to take care of because of his disease (Early Onset Alzheimer's), but the nurses and staff members know exactly how to work with him so that he feels heard and loved. I cannot express how deeply grateful I am to all the members of the Harbor House. The staff members are not just employees, they are part of a loving family. They are hardworking, kind, thoughtful, dependable, and compassionate. The facility is always clean and well maintained. My sincerest gratitude to all at the Harbor House. THANK YOU!!!
