Here lived George Mason. He was one of the leading politicians of the American independence movement and an important contributor to the bill of rights. He was also a landowner. A museum is now set up on his former property. It's not as crowded as other sights.

What a hidden gem! It's so quiet and peaceful with no worry about crowds.. At least when we visited on a weekday. Definitely worth checking out to learn more about George Mason and his contribution to early American Government. It's smaller then Mount Vernon, but still neat to compare and learn about these contemporaries! We had a wonderful tour guide whose passion for her subject made us want to know more.

Living historical site - the reenactors were very believable and full of neat daily life details. There is a period kitchen that makes food from George Mason's time period. Great place to visit for a couple of hours to have a bit of fun learning the local and nations history.

An amazing place. Located in a quiet, beautiful corner of land, the Hall is a step back in time to learn about Mason and his life. It's also a great alternative to Mt. Vernon with a more personal touch and less crowded. The staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The tour of the house is about an hour and the grounds are expensive where you can spend all day. I highly recommend visiting!

Very pretty and kept nicely. Parents if you go with kids under 2, TAKE AN ERGO/carrier. Strollers are not allowed in the house. The house is a must see. So pretty and kept up. Cost of admission was very reasonable and gave you access to the grounds. Short walk from Pohick Regional Park. Note, no food around like Mt.Vernon, so pack snacks for the kids and yourself. The grounds are beautiful and big. A must see in Virginia and away from the traditional colonial visits. No long wait like Mt.Vernon.

Very interesting insight into the lifestyle of a very important American patriot. Mason was responsible for the Bill of Rights for Virginia and very strongly stood for them at the national level by refusing to sign the constitution due to the absence of the bill of rights. He lived to see it adopted. His plantation was quite a place, and his family had been there for several generations by the time he came along.

Despite going to the school, I actually didn't know much about George Mason! Even though it's during COVID, I still had a good time here. Some exhibits can only be seen from behind a railing but it was still a fun time.

One of my favorite historic sites. Gorgeous estate that still has 550 acres of the original plantation. You feel as though you have stepped back in time. There is a 3/4 mile hiking path to the Potomac River. Highly recommend that you visit Gunston Hall.

I don't think I've visited Gunston Hall and ever seen it busy. It's a really nice place to walk around and the view towards the river is very nice. Some may not notice but walk a bit towards the right from the house and you'll come to a small cemetery and memorial.

Quiet side trip. House is very large for the time built and hearing history is so interesting. Have made 2 trips and enjoyed each time. Visit will take 1 to 2 hours, depending how much of a history buff you are. My grandkids have been here multiple times and had been here when their are activities for children and adults.

Got a lovely tour from Lacey of Gunston Hall. We were unable to tour the mansion due to Covid, but we still got a great tour of the grounds and outbuildings and we also got to see the graveyard where George Mason and others are buried. Nice Visitor Center and gift shop. Very pleasant staff

George Mason was an amazing founding father who flies under the radar because he opposed the constitution because he thought it would eventually lead to big government...A must visit if you like American history and a real under the radar place to spend an afternoon

Very great experience. The exhibit in the visitor center is well done, and a great intro to George Mason. The house itself was a great tour, our guide was very knowledgeable. Walked around the grounds, which were gorgeous. Highly recommend this place.

Gunston Hall was the home of George Mason. Located just south of George Washington's Mt. Vernon. This place is much quieter, less touristy home of one of the Founding Father. The garden behind the house needs little clean up but overall very well taken care of house from 18th Century.

Christmastide at Gunston Hall is something you and your family don't want to miss! One day a year George and Anne Mason open their home for Christmas festivities for kids and adults alike. Be sure to stop by the kitchens for samples of some amazing colonial desserts and foods! And if that doesn't fill you up the bake sale certainly will. There's even a "snowball "fight for the kids! The actors are superb and give you a wonderful educational experience without making you feel like you're in school. So grab the whole family and don't miss out on this wonderful Christmas experience

We had a private tour of Gunston Hall on a inclement weather day. We were shown the mansion's main interior where the family gathered for dining, entertainment, and where visitors were received. Also second level bedrooms. The landscape overlooks the Potomac River.

Interesting place with lots of historical significance. Grounds are beautiful and the house is nicer than Mount Vernon though much smaller. My only issue is the heavy emphasis on slavery, as if it is the most important part of American history.
