Awesome brewery! My wife and I came here once for the tour which was one of the best brewery tours/tastings we've been on and the St. Patrick's Day event which was a blast. The brewery and grounds are spacious and the food (at the restaurant) and beer were delicious.

Very convenient location, right off the Beltway. The parking lot is huge, there were license plates pretty much from all 50 states.
We waited in line only 5 minutes for indoor seating, the wait was longer for outdoor seating.
You scan the QR code at your table and order. The food and drinks arrived super fast.
The food was very good!! They automatically include 18% tip.
They are not doing tours at the moment because of COVID.

Always great beer. Good times. The website ordering is great. Just need a way to get the servers attention without ordering. For like extra napkins or whatever. Little pricey, but worth it.

The guided tour was excellent. Interesting and very informative. Not too long and not too short on time. The tasting that followed was well facilitated and fun. The food was great and the all around vibe of the staff was phenomenal. This place is well thought out in every regard. Highly recommend booking your tour, tasting and meal in advance online.

The best beer by the best organization has come to Baltimore and they do not disappoint. Experimental brews and a wonderful atmosphere keep you happy and comfortable while you are visiting the Open Gate Brewery and Barrel House. It is a good spot to go and hang out with friends, family and other beer lovers. A bright spot in a city that really needs it.

One of my favorite breweries in the area. Cant go wrong with the delicious food and brews here. With current Covid conditions you can't reserve tables ahead so my party came here early and split up between 4 tables. From the food menu, we ordered the charcuterie board, Guiness beef stew, MD crab flatbread, 1817 burger, wings, and mussels. The beef was so tender and broth was so rich. If you love fries I highly recommend ordering the fries here. They are seasoned well with plenty of flavor. From the drink menu we ordered everything from the Black eyed Susan, milk stout, nitro blood orange. I personally loved the Susan because its around 12%. The outdoor area is currently closed and parties are at 6 people max. I'll definitely be back to try the other other beers and food items

Very crowded but the beer selection was good. Only 3 bartenders so they could probably use some more, since this is a testing room they did pretty good. Everyone was friendly though especially at the little store! Very popular, should definitely try it out for the beer that they only brew there!

Fantastic open venue with indoor and outdoor seating, Cornhole, great beers - some of which are unavailable anywhere else - friendly and relatively quick service even when packed. There's also a gift shop. Family friendly!

Went recently with a group of friends to Open Gate...

Went recently with a group of friends to Open Gate on a schedule tour of the brewery. Frankly, I had no expectation as to what to expect, but I had heard from many that it is was a unique and vibrant experience.

We arrived about 20 minutes before the scheduled tour. One thing I noticed right away was the grounds were quite large. It had multiple buildings on site and later in the tour we learned of the the many functions of said buildings on the grounds.

The tour started at 5:30 and lasted about 90 minutes. This included a walk thru of the brewery on the bottom floor, historical discussions of the history of the site and finally a tasting of some of the creations of the brewery. Overall the tour was FANTASTIC! Our guide was very knowledgeable of brewery operations, the details of the beer we were tasting and the facility in general. He was very witty and you could tell enjoyed being a part of Guinness.

As you walk into the brewery you are met with a very open area with a gift shop to the right, old barrels/casks and other historical artifacts in the center and a bar area to the left. The gift shop has great Guinness apparel and glassware. It also contains many items that would look great in a man cave. The bar area to the left was bustling with activity. Here you could order food items and a pint of one of Open Gate's unique brews. The beauty of this brewery is they create and "test" many of their creations. If they find the public is excited about the brew, Guinness makes a decision to release the brew to the general public. I had two pints of the Juicy Pineapple IPA, which was incredible. The beer itself is brewed with 85 lbs of pineapple. It was unique and hope they release this in the future. I must say the food was equally fine. The Chicken sausage sliders were excellent and everyone in the group agreed the food and service was excellent.

Overall, the Open Gate brewery is a unique and fresh experience. If you ever wondered how beer is brewed or just how Guinness became what it is today, this is a great place. Highly recommended!

Love the atmosphere here. There was a live band and lots of standing area. The food was really good, especially the poutine with crab in it, and the snack mix. Wish there was more warm outdoor seating though! Add a few more warmers and there would be more space to hang out.

Our tour guide, Courtney, was extremely knowledgeable about the beer making industry as well as historic information in Guinness itself. The tour is a great mix of the brewing process as well as a look into this famous brewery s historic past.

The place is gorgeous - very attractive bar and restaurant upstairs - and the beer, of course, is excellent. The grounds are also very attractive and should be perfect in summer. Only quibbles are the food - especially the appetizers in the main bar - are spotty and they never seem to have enough bartenders to efficiently serve the large bar with its many seats and 2 walk-up areas. There are no servers except for the bartenders and everything else is self serve in the bar.

Venue can t be beat. Even though we arrived early, it already felt busy and the parking lot was nearly full. The building itself had an Industrial vibe with old fashioned Guiness black and white photos. We ate at the restaurant on the top floor and the wait staff was attentive and friendly. The food was good and just a little pricey. I had the smoked shrimp flatbread which had a unique taste. My partner s chicken biscuit sandwich fell apart easily but tasted okay. My other companion s steak and eggs were perfectly cooked and seasoned.

There was live music the day we were there and the outdoor area seemed pretty lively.

Had a great time! Food was amazing (we ate at the bar area). The reason I gave them 4 stars and not 5 is two reasons, first the prices at the gift shop were a bit high (for everything being made in China), and two my favorite beer I tasted was not available to take home!

We made reservations for my 30th birthday at 7:15PM. We arrived on time. Proceeded to our table. Looked at the menu. Figured out what we wanted to order. Waited. And waited. 15 minutes later and no waiter came to our table. No one offered us drinks. No one came over to see how we were doing. Nothing. Very unfortunate. On our way out we explained to the hostess that we were never seen. They apologized. But didn't seem to really care either.

The ONLY reason why I am giving 4 starts is the incessant gnats that swarm the outdoor area at dusk. My advice is to either attend early in the day or after nightfall. Avoid outdoor seating between 7p-8:30p at all costs the gnats are everywhere, they literally crawl all over the table, in your drink, food, face, it's like the 7th plague. Otherwise everything else was pretty nice. Love the new order by QR code, the wait was short, the beverages and food came quickly, and everyone was friendly. The outdoor menu is a bit limited but most ppl should be able to find something to eat.

This place deserves nothing less than 5 stars. Granted I haven't taken the tour yet but the setting, the food, the ambience was nothing short of Brilliant. Ate lunch on the third floor restaurant with some of their delicious experimental beers (which by the way is always ever changing so do make your visits frequent) then headed to the second floor for some tasting and a small walk around their props setup for a brief history lesson. This is going to be my hangout place going forward can't wait for the sun to pop out as this place would be the most happening place around.

I'm really not impressed with the service today. The restaurant is about half empty, but they won't seat anyone without a reservation. I don't mind waiting to see if someone doesn't show up. This just seemed like they didn't want to bother keeping track of reservations or try to fill tables.

Down in the bar, we were approached by a waitress who asked us if we wanted water while we were deciding, which made it sound like she was going to take our order, like we've done many times. When I tried to order a flight, she cut me off and told me they don't do table service (any more) and just kind of walked off.

So we left. I LOVE Guinness and Open Gate, but the staff need more training in how to communicate policy changes and just in general. This whole experience completely turned me off and we won't be back for a while.

The tour and tasting, lead by Christy, was incredibly good. I would do that again easily! The beers are pretty over priced...I get paying almost 8 dollars for a pint of Guinness because of the novelty (see: tourist trap) of it, but I was charged about 20 dollars for a flight of 4 beers, that s insane! And the beers were marked on the menu as 6.75 oz yet I was given roughly 4 oz pours per beer in my flight.

The staff were really friendly, the place is clean and welcoming and the tour was great. I would suggest those all to any friends who want to visit the place. But I would caution against spending a lot of time at the bar, because the value and sense of enjoyment just isn t there.

This may be a little long-winded, but the place has a lot to offer, so I'm going to cover everything. The long and short of it, if you like beer, and you like Guinness, and you are looking for something new to do or see, it would definitely be on the top list of things to do in the area. I would give it 4.5 stars if I could, because we have had issues with disappointing food (which they've comped or re-made) but the effort and genuine care that they've shown us as customers have earned them the 5 stars.

For the 1817 restaurant upstairs, we have been several times for dinner and the food has always been excellent. It is a bit pricey, so if you're looking for someplace cheap, stay downstairs at the bar. However, if you want to treat yourself, the food is worth it. Most non-chain restaurants in this area are overpriced, and sometimes aren't very good, so if you don't mind paying a little more for the atmosphere and draw of the brewhouse, definitely check out the restaurant.

For the bar downstairs, it's great for happy hours or a cheap dinner. You order through the bartender, so sometimes you may have to wait in line a little while. Food is also ordered through them and you get a pager to let you know when to go pick up the food. Most of the food is like 'elevated' bar food, or snack style, and it has all been good. I think here, the food is very reasonably priced.

For weekend brunch, we've been a few times. The first time wasn't great, but we were in a group. So we went back and it still wasn't great (overcooked/undercooked eggs, hard bread, cold cinnamon rolls). We let them know that we were disappointed, and they not only paid for the food we ordered (including the food that WAS good), but they invited us back again on them. Weird, a place that genuinely cares if you have had a good experience! We weren't looking for a handout, and felt bad that they were bending over backwards for us, but it showed us a level of customer service and appreciation I haven't seen in a long time. That being said, some of the food for brunch has been fantastic, and some has been unseasoned/overseasoned, so your mileage may vary for brunch. However, great atmosphere, and if things work out, it will be one of the best brunches you've had.

Lastly, for the place as a whole, it's a brewery, but it's so much more. You can take a guided tour, take a self-guided tour (not as much background but still lots to see), have a few beers, enjoy the live music and cornhole games in the summer, come for Octoberfest celebration, or any other number of special events they host. They have the great Guinness beers we know and love, but also lots of experimental beers with new flavors or collaborations that can be fantastic. Flights are available, so why not try anything that looks good to you? Basically, if you have some time to kill and want something to do, put it on the list. Driving by it, just stop in for a beer and some pretzels.

To sum up, the pros: great location, plenty to do and see while you're here, especially for special events or during the summer. Great food for the most part, even in the bar. Beer is great and reasonably priced, and rotating options gives you reasons to return.
Cons: If you don't like beer, they don't have any other liquor/wine options to choose from. For happy hour, not everyone wants to drink beer, so it may not suit everyone. Food in the restaurant is *a little* pricey for what you get, but that's not unexpected for the location, and still better than a lot of other options in the area.

This is the definition of heaven. By far the most amazing and beautiful brewery I ve ever seen. The tour was amazing. We had a very wonderful tour guide that was training with the lead tour guide. She could of fooled us because she really seemed like she knew what she was doing and was so knowledgeable. The tasting was amazing but the customer service here really blows it out of the water. The grounds are so clean and well kept. It s a perfect place to hang out or get together with friends or coworkers. Definitely will be back a million times.

Has a great time at the brewery and was really impressed with their COVID measures. All tables were more than 6 feet across, there was plenty of outdoor space, contactless ordering, and they enforce masks when not at your table. I would highly recommend going here not only for how they handle COVID, but their friendly staff, and obviously great beer and food!

Worst experience of my life!! Was there with friends, who we are black. Not trying to make racial issue, but me and my friends were the only blacks in the establishment. About two hours later, after spending money on food and drinks, we were abruptly asked to leave.! We
were threatened by the bartender, and the cops showed up. We asked what's going on? They reply "the staff felt uncomfortable with us being there". 8 police officers just walked up and said they we had to leave, because it was a private establishment. Please be careful if you're of color, because they DO watch you. There are no black bartenders and the white ones seemed very unprofessional!!DO NOT GO THERE. I WILL BE LOOKING INTO THIS!!!

Honestly the brewery is great. Lots of space and great beer. The thing that turned me off the most was the lack of plant based options. Seriously it s 2020 and I was shocked by this. Truly they need to fix this. It s actually not even an option to not be plant based friendly anymore. Fix this now.

The tour is a scaled down mini version of the brewery. Not very impressive. Optional tasting was great. I think we had 4 different beers to try. Tour guide was energetic and knowledgeable about the beer and brewing process. We made reservations at 1817 restaurant weeks prior. We were seated at a horrible table way back by the kitchen. Had to request to be reseated (other tables were available). Food was decent but the menu was much different than the one online and more expensive. I ordered the burger... way too charred. Probably a $10 burger, not $18.

My only qualm is that their prices seemed higher than other places for the same products. Beautiful facility that s been open since July. It s open and airy. They have an experimental brewery and make IPA, porter and many other styles like a true microbrewery. There s a taproom and restaurant as well. The beers are pretty tasty.

It s geared to tourist crowd as well as locals. The taproom is still a bit of a mess from a service perspective. There are more barbacks (black shirts) than bartenders (plaid shirts). So it s not unusual to wait an extended period for a beer. They are not beer savvy but that s fine. The menu in the taproom is okay but overpriced. The oyster poboy has five small and greasy oysters and a lot of bread. The brussel sprouts are greasy too.

Visited on a Labor Day weekend. Lots of people, but did not feel crowded. The patio was full of groups of family and friends Anjou the cool evening.
We at the the restaurant, didn t want to have to jockey for tables and chairs on the patio.
Stew and bangers and mash were outstanding. Tried 2 beer flights (among several of us). We needed to try the variety of beers, but the milk stout and standard draught were the winners.

Your was already sold out for the day. Next time maybe.

Would go back again and again.

BBQ sandwiche tasted like standard bagged pulled pork. Pretzel sticks were decent. Desert tatsers were less than mediocre. The original Guinness Draught is served Extra Cold which is Guinness' new push. If they could have a tap for standard temperature for those of us who prefer a true pint I'd be more of a regular. The atmosphere is fun and enjoyable on a cool night.

So my party and I arrive at 630 for a 730 reservation at the restaurant. Everything was going great we grabbed a few drinks and sat outside, until at about 7:15 I got a call from the hostess. She informed me the credit card machines were down and they could only expect cash. Okay not a big deal I thought I ll hit an ATM. Well there is no ATM on site so I had to leave my party and drive to the nearest gas station to get cash. Needless to say I m not thrilled but I m trying to go with the flow. I get back to the restaurant and the staff seems shocked that we are willing to stay and thanked us. From that point on it all went down hill. It turns out that most of the systems were down it took over 20 mins to get two of the four drinks we ordered and than another 10 once we flagged down our server to ask if anyone was getting the rest of our order.... Mind you there are 3 women at the hostess stand and four or five guys standing in the opposite corner none of them seeming to do much of anything. I know my server was doing her best in the moment but she clearly had no help from any support staff. From there apps are served they were fine. Then comes entrees, they were dropped by a running who didn t even offer to clear the plates from our apps. I waited about five minutes before I cleared the table myself and dropped the dirty plates at the bar. Two of us ordered the sea scallops, they sounded great but yet again we were disappointed the food had clearly been sitting under a heat lamp for way to long as the grits had formed a solid state and the scallops were gummy. At the end of it all there was no manager in sight walking the restaurant making sure guests were taken care of as the restaurant was a complete disaster, no we were given a coupon good for 50% off ONE drink down stairs. That s right a $200 bill and a terrible experience and we were offered ONE half off drink. Thanks but no thanks I will never be coming back. I have been to Guinness in Ireland and the level of service and attention to the guests and their needs is top priority. I d have to guess that the company would be ashamed to be affiliated with the Baltimore location.

Disappointed this hasn t been taken into consideration as so much of society is gluten intolerant/ allergic.
