Amazing food, amazing service, amazing atmosphere, amazing everything! BEST steak and oysters in Boston! Definitely will visit again!
So fun for a meal or just a drink at the bar. Staff is great and knowledgeable. Highly recommend!
Fantastic steak. Perfectly cooked. All members of our party had their steak cooked exactly as desired and EVERYONE enjoyed it. The sides complement the steak and make everything taste better yet not pretentious. Come with an appetite and leave satisfied.
Dined in the private room here and despite it being a little chilly (it's in the wine room) the service was impeccable (You were great Neil) and the food spectacular. I will absolutely be back.
Dining here has left me with incredible memories. They provide a class act menu, as well as their drink selection being out of this world. It s one of those restaurants that sport a cool, laid back enjoyable ambiance. Whether a business pow wow, or taking that special someone out for a nice evening, you should make this place part of your evening. #yourwelcome
A MUST if you are in Boston! My boyfriend and I visited Grill 23 & Bar after waiting for 30 minutes at another restaurant to have our order taken (with reservations). After our experience, we wished we would have come here first instead! We walked in starving and hoping to get a table. Matt greeted us with open arms and showed us the most wonderful time. The service: phenomenal. The food: out of this world. My boyfriend ordered the Filet which was seared wonderfully and tasted amazing. I ordered the pork chop which was one of the best dishes I ve ever had.
Thank you so much to the staff of Grill 23 & Bar for turning a frustrating evening into one for the books! And a special thanks to Matt for your hospitality and wonderful service!
My favorite table #17 upstairs by the little bar! Food is classic and outstanding instagram@tomkennedyrealty
I eat in this spot a lot since I work close by. I must say the customer service is always excellent and they keep the place neat at all times. Rates are affordable and they serve sizeable portions.
Their Manhattans are top notch, or maybe the bartender has a blessed hand.....
Superb food, service and drinks!! A+ Christopher was as a first class server!!
Great place to celebrate a special occasion. French onion soup was great along with the filet. Attentive wait staff.
Was nice to get dressed up and go to a place where there is still some class. Only wish other patrons would know NOT to wear blue jeans and t-shirts to such a fine establishment.
Fabulous experience my wife took me for my Berfday because I wanted Steak....steak tartar is great appetizer.
The experience was good. Steaks were cooked very well and our waiter was good. However, my girlfriends salad had a worm in it, crawling around on the plate. One would expect that not to happen at an established restaurant such as this. After spending $600 on 3 people, I really appreciate the salad being comped. Overall, good experience. Just asked them to hold the worm.
Went here for my boyfriends company holiday party. This restaurant is beautiful and had convenient valet service. We ate in a private function room upstairs. It was quite loud, but had a lovely ambiance. The food was AMAZING. I had the rib eye. It was perfectly cooked. Our table ordered sides of Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, asparagus and spinach. All phenomenal. Had the chocolate cake for dessert. To die for. 4 stars because the mixed drinks were inconsistent.
THE 100 YEAR AGED RIBEYE IS ON THE THRILLIST FOOD BUCKET LIST! Best I have EVER had!!!!! Came all the way from WI for it! SOOOOOO GOOD!
Fantastic Steak House and more. Service is out of this world. Boston's best.
This is a nice restaurant. The service was exceptional. The location and atmosphere was great. Food was prepared as expected. The menu was large and typical of these type restaurants.
So good. Amazing steaks. Great service. Dessert was fantastic. So good.
Drinks well made, wine list top notch, calamari app perfect, ribeye flavorful and cooked just right, key lime pie desert exquisite. It s the best of the best at Grill 23.
My wife, daughter and I went there on Thanksgiving. We were waited on by Paul and treated to the best restaurant experience we have ever had. We are from New Orleans and are used to good service and fine food, but this was truly exceptional.
Went here on vacation a few weeks ago. Had reservation and were seated quickly. Our waiter seemed to have an edge. We ordered drinks, and it took a long time to get them. Another waiter was awkwardly hovering, and when it was clear I was put off, we were finally told he was in training. When we didn't order appetizers, the main waiter was visibly acting disappointed. Entrees came, my lamb was terrible as the fat was not properly rendered. At like $30 or something I'd expect better. Boyfriend liked his filet, potatoes were great, asparagus overcooked. Main waiter perked back up when we ordered dessert (only because I was still hungry from inedible lamb). Key lime dessert was very good. All in all I don't recommend. For the money I've had so much better. A place with this kind of food, service at such a high price tag would never last in Chicago!
Follow up: manager reached out as you can see below. He did everything he could to apologize and says he'll use my experience as a talking point with staff. Very kind person. Have increased rating by one star to reflect his efforts. Class act.
Delicious dry aged steak, cooked correctly to order as usual. I recommend the Brussels sprouts as a side!
Fun Fact: Bamboo is a GRASS it s also a fast growing plant
Wow.. really really must visit place. Wanted to go to a well known place to try the Waygu Steak for the first time and this place blew it out of the park. We had a party of 6 and absolutely no one went away upset. The place is very very awesome. I had to try the Waygu A5 Prefecture Japan Steak.....it was only 2oz for $52 but so so so worth the experience .... I have never in my entire life tastes a steak as tender and delicious as this. It literally melted away in my mouth like butter. And that was just the start of the unbelievable feast we had. I also had the shellfish sampler which was amazing and had lobster tails, oysters , shrimp, and this fantastic crab salad. Then we had the soft shell crab special....delicious. And the crudo which was fantastic as well... Then for my main I had the American Kobe Cap Steak with blue cheese crust and on the side (I asked for it on the side instead of on top) I had King Crab Oscar and Asparagus... OMG ...it was so good. Delicious... super tender and cooked to perfection. The sides with it were outstanding .....the Japanese Sweet Potatoes were seriously the best sweet potatoes I have ever tasted..and then the mushrooms were great as well. Drinks were great ...and their drink menu is ridiculous. We ended the night with desserts that were really delicious. The Coconut Cake came with homemade pineapple and other fruit ice cream that was some of the best ice cream I have ever had.....the Creme Brulee was great as well...and the chocolate cookies were out of this world. It was a very expensive night but well worth it. Service was really good and we will definitely be back for another visit. I seriously want people to know that the Waygu Steak A5 will literally be the best steak you have ever tasted in your entire life. Guaranteed. A must visit. You will spend a lot of money but what you taste for it is worth it. Great Great place. Well done. Picture I posted of the Kobe Steak doesnt do it justice. It was amazing.

Great steakhouse with good prime steaks, service is up to the quality of the food.
Unfortunately we had one of the worst dining experience ever, starting from the minute we walked in last night: (1) stayed 10 minutes in line to be able to tell the concierge we had a reservation (2) waited an additional 10 minutes to be seated - we were in the table 20 minutes after our reservation time - by that time my kids were starving. NOW THE WORST STARTS (3) the waiter was the worst I have had in restaurants of Grill23 level: we asked him to bring us some more bread and the told us "Sorry, but we ran out of bread" - of course I thought he was joking, but telling him that he should be joking because I could not believe that a restaurant like Grill23 would run out of bread, he then brought us some more bread . (4) He was never around our table to serve us well. (5) FOOD TOOK 60 MINUTES TO COME OUT. I asked help for another waiter and he then mentioned that our food was out and then I asked him to serve us. RESULT: THE FOOD WAS COLD!! Probably was sitting there forever! (6) Not finished: THE ORDER WAS INCOMPLETE: the meat dishes were cold and the side orders did not come. We were served the meet with no side orders. (7) FUN PART: the first side order that came was not ours, was some other tables! THE EXPERIENCE COULD NOT HAVE BEEN WORST. After complaining to the waiter, the General Manager came quickly asking how the dinner was going. He was extremely nice, apologize tons and offered the whole dinner for us! He really tried to fix the situation in the best way. He was very fair! But unfortunately we had a terrible night!
Excellent steakhouse with a very diverse menu of top-notch items. The apps are great but the steak tartare was amazing! I had the 100 day dry-aged ribeye which was one of the best steaks I've ever had!!!
Quite expensive but worth it!
I came with a large group. Everything was perfect! Thank you for a great night!
Great meal at Grill 23. I had the filet (10 oz. whish is a little big for me) and my husband had the Wagyu cab steak, which he says was perfect. Kat was a wonderful waitress and surprised us with a lovely glass of port to wash down the fantastic profiteroles and creme brulee. The profiteroles are worth the splurge. One of the best desserts I have ever had. If you are looking for quiet, this is not the place. Very loud but the food shines.
I d give more stars if I could, this is my all-time favorite restaurant. The kobe cap steak is to die for, no other steak I ve had has ever come close besides the 100 day aged rib eye they serve here. The service is incredible, the waitstaff is very well trained. It s expensive but totally worth it!
Had an excellent adventure and a fun night in part due to Paul our head waiter and his colleagues. Food and service for ten people was excellent!
The steak was good but a bit pricey.
The staff was friendly.
Had dinner here and it was an excellent experience. Prices are high, but for a special night out, it is worth it. Service was stellar. Shared sides were enough for all, and the steaks were wonderful. Friends also enjoyed the salmon, tuna and chicken. Bread pudding was also excellent!
Just wanted to take a quick moment to note how much my wife and I enjoyed our dining experience tonight at Grill 23 and Bar. The place was absolutely packed but the food and service were outstanding.
The meals at this restaurant are exquisite! Though expensive, if you take into account it's location and the high-quality food, it is worth it. The waiters and staff are incredibly nice and willing to assist at any moment. There is even someone who goes around and fills up glasses of water that look like they are running out! The atmosphere is lovely and despite the busyness, the wait is not an issue. I ordered the steak which I definitely recommend. It was delicious! I only rate it 4 stars because of the price, but on a very special occasion I will definitely be going again!
I visit this place a lot since I work nearby. I like how the service is always awesome and they keep the spot clean all the time. Prices are fair and they serve sizeable portions.
A super high end steak and seafood restaurant centrally located in Boston. I've been there twice. Service is excellent, seating is a bit tight and noisy. Order the capped steak medium well done. Great flavor, plenty of side dishes to accommodate the steaks.
Extensive wine list, overall a great place to dine. A bit pricey.
I went here before it changed ownership or whatever it changed and I loved it. This past experience that I had, not so much. I went on a Sunday and the service was slow, we ordered the 100 day aged and they cut it in half for my boyfriend and I to share. I mean thank you, but in my past experience you never cut a steak in half, all the juice was lost. The taste of the steak was great, but honestly some of the other things were OK including the onions, whatever they are marinated in was not complimentary at all to the steak. I think this place has great potential but for these little things I will probably not be running back as my go to. But the staff were accommodating in the end and my over all experience was good. Just a little underwhelmed.
Tried Grill 23 and Bar tonight on the recommendation of the reception lady at the Loews Hotel opposite. The rack of lamb and the pork chop were cooked to perfection. Good selection of wines and beers. Portions were large enough that we had to refuse dessert! Expensive, but worth the money for a special occasion as this was.
I wanted to take my time writing this review. Probably one of my best dining experiences I've had in a long time, may even be the best ever.
Arriving about 15-20 minutes early for the reservation, the host was able to seat us within a few minutes. We were shown to the staircase and taken to the second floor, a nice cozy spot in the corner of the restaurant overlooking Berkley Street.
The prime ribeye was served with caramelized onions and arugula (I believe, but it was the side act and no one cares about the side act, people come from miles around for star attractions). Only way I can describe the ribeye: decadent! Juicy tender steak, excellent flavor, seasoned right with a beautiful seared crust. Absolutely outstanding. Could have gone for a sauce, but a steak this good stands alone. Opting for a glass of Geyser Peak merlot, it paired well with the ribeye although I wish I opted for a malbec.
Macaroni and cheese: so extra! Very rich, nice bread crumb crust adding another texture to the dish. My wife enjoyed her twin filet.
Being a meat and potato guy, I wasn't too keen on dessert. But there are three pastry chefs. And when you have three pastry chefs, you kind of have to have the dessert. Of course there is not a whole lot of room left. Our server pointed out the small desserts that were 2-3 bites, and lemon poppy cake with raspberry glaze was perfect! The wife is a dessert gal, she chose the Valrhona chocolate layer cake with coffee ice cream. The desserts were amazing and were absolutely divine.
Regarding the experience: a very memorable birthday. Being this exquisite, it is worth the price. This is another restaurant outside my price range, one that I could only afford on very special occasions. This place is being highly recommended to you, the reader. There was no pretention, only a cheery and warm atmosphere by the staff. They want you to feel at home, to feel special. Even though a little above my status, I felt welcomed here. It was a pleasure to patron here and wish to return... someday.
Great place and steak. The coconut cake is wonderful.
Had a great time although it is very expensive. We went with a group of people about 14 so it got kind of hectic for the waitress whom still did a good job. I just wanted a drink lol but hadda wait 30 min. But I do not blame the waitress at all. We are only human and can move so fast. So all in all great food, great place and had fun.
The steak and sides were delicious! Definitely would recommend this place for a fancy dinner out.
What a wonderful restaurant! We started going here about 5 years ago and every time we go it is a wonderful experience. The food is always magnificent and the service is top notch. It is refreshing to go to a restaurant that you don't seem out of place when you are properly dressed for an evening out. When the majority of places have turned into casual attire and offer casual fare and service to find a place the is truly exceptional is a rarity. It's all the little personal touches they add to the experience and the pride they put into offering superior food and service that make Grill 23 a restaurant you want to go to all the time.
Absolutely incredible food. Tried the American Kobe, the 100 day dry aged, and the 100 day wet aged steaks and those had to be by far the best steaks I have ever had in my life. Perfectly cooked so that the outside had a nice thin crisp and the inside was tender and juicy. Seafood is so fresh it tastes like it was picked out the ocean that day. The tater tots and Mac and cheese are fantastic and the portions are great! Definitely go for the banana split or coconut cake for dessert! Service was impeccable and my water never dipped below half empty. Will most definitely be returning. Chef Peter Agostinelli is a culinary genius!
Had a great time with great food and great wine here! You re going to want to make a night of it as there s just so much to try on the menu!
Came here with a large party of ~30. It was as excellent an experience as you can have from a fine steakhouse. The food (I orders the filet mignon) was impeccable, the service was exquisite. I will absolutely be back.
Be ready to spend top dollar for the best steakhouse in Boston - but absolutely worth it.
It was our anniversary and my husband looked it up and then made reservations and flew us from PDX TO BOS, just to go try this place. Amazing!!!!
3000 miles for a weekend at a Really nice place. Our server was awesome as well! Hope to go back again.
covering 6 states , knocking them off our bucket list. Boston, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Main , Vermont , New Hampshire and Connecticut then back to Wa we go. Would most definitely go back here. The place was well worth the price.
Thanks babe!
Absolutely fantastic. Excellent selection on all accounts. Best part?!? Our waiter didn't ask me how everything was with my mouth full. He didn't even ask how it was at all. He knew it was 200% delicious. I thanked him for having done so and he laughed. Had a great time will def go back and recommend to friends.
The 100-Day Dry-aged ribeye is still to this day the best steak I've ever eaten! Never been disappointed with any meal! Staff are great and attentive!
The food was excellent to top it off the waiter Cooper was just awesome. Very attentive, came by to see how the entrees went then gave us time to enjoy our meal in peace. Also recommended great drinks for me and my wife. I read reviews about proper attire preferred, I came in here in sweat shorts and a black tee, treated as proper as anyone else. Definitely a nice place, great decor and great service.
We were seated upstairs for dinner, the environment was suitable for conversation. I had a steak which was perfectly cooked and accompanied by savory side dishes. The restaurant has a fine whisky and wine collection. My wife had a fantastic and refreshing mixed drink. I look forward to eating here next time we are in Boston.
Absolutely delicious food and giant portions in an elegant setting. The prices are steep, but you get what you pay for (and sometimes even more than that). The steaks are incredible, and the coconut cake for dessert was the best cake I've ever had.
Wow wow wow!!! Superb ALL around. So special and classic! Service A++, food A++, atmosphere A++.
This steak house has been a favorite of mine since the mid-1980s. Far superior to Capitol Grill or Morton's. It is expensive but well worth it. The atmosphere, waitstaff (Troy was excellent), ambiance and no-rush feel make this the best in Boston. Thank you for a lovely evening after a 25 year hiatus from the Boston area.
Delicious steak, phenomenal wait staff and nice atmosphere. All food is individually purchased (meat, sides, apps, etc.) and portions are quite large.
Very well organised and accessible restaurant. They offer generous portions and for affordable rates. We liked the meals very much and the staff were very welcoming and informative. I recommend this place.
Best steak!! Everything was amazing, from the food to the service! Our waiter Benji was amazing! I would recommend this place over and over! I ll be back
Oh my God! This restaurant is so nice... That for someone like me (from Portugal) I could only see it in movies... And finally being in it... It's mind blowing. I totally recommend it to anyone that is in Boston. Best restaurant ever!
Just wanted to take a quick moment to note how much my wife and I enjoyed our dining experience tonight at Grill 23 and Bar. The place was absolutely packed but the food and service were outstanding. I got the New York Strip, which was so tender the knife slid right through it. My wife got a bunch of vegetable dishes and said they were excellent. The best part of the night, though, was the incredible service. That may have been the best service I've ever had in my life. Friendly without being phony, efficient without hovering like a helicopter.
it has a nice atmosphere. i can see why they have so many reviews.
Upscale classy dining location with low lightening, waiters in white suit top attire, and a traditional multi level location. The 100 day wet aged ribeye steak was absolutely fabulous... Melt in your mouth. The island creek oysters were so good you don't need any sauce or horseradish... Just eat them straight off of the shell.
The service was fantastic, first class and the meal was even better. I didn't have any mixed drinks but others did and mentioned they were good. Meat is prepared extremely well. Don't forget to order sides they are a must!
One of the best 3 steaks you can have in entire MA state. Simply epic. Very very friendly staff
Wonderful restaurant with great staff and ambiance. If you like steak you have to try the 100 day aged sirloin or tenderloin, they are amazing.
This place had it all. My wife and I celebrated our one year anniversary in Boston last weekend, and we capped it off at Grill 23 & Bar. We started with the lobster infused chowder which was perfect. We then had two filets cooked just right (medium and medium rare), and after that the best desert we've had probably since our honeymoon in Hawaii. I don't remember the name, but it was a cream puff with coffee ice cream and chocolate syrup to drizzle over it. Service was amazing and our waiter was very accommodating. We will definitely try and come back for more the next time we're in Boston!
Local steak house, must visit order the 100 day dry aged rib eye
Wonderful Boston restaurant. Can t wait for them to re open.
Best steak ever. Very nice atmosphere, and prices were reasonable.
Ordered the filet and the brick pressed chicken. Amazing prep, ingredients, and service.
Incredible place, great atmosphere and the food was outstanding!
We came as a group for a business dinner. The private room was very quite and service was excellent. Everything here was delicious! It was difficult to make a choice among the best dishes. I recommend the Herbs with Colorado Rock of Lamb. Variety of breads are amazing. I did not like fried-mashed-potatoes since they were very oily and salty. The deserts were great and tea served in silver mini-pots. Very nice!
A great place to enjoy a delicious meal! The food and service were truly fantastic. Will be coming back on our next venture to Boston! Would recommend the pork chop, it s was wonderful!
Overall a good restaurant. Staff is friendly and responsive. Food is tasteful. Nice location.
I don t know what s special about grill 23. The calamari was ok and you can get that anywhere the beef tartar has no taste but the chips that comes with it is good. I ordered the steak and it came under cook couple times before they got it right. It is very pricey.
We had the best meal here... best aged rib eye I have ever had! The service was fantastic and we were spoilt to death being Aussies on our way home to Sydney. A big thank you to all those that made our evening special, especially Misty
Amazing experience! My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate his birthday. Not only was the food phenomenal, but the service was exceptional. Our server s name was Tray. She paid close attention to every detail of our experience. She was very personable and down to earth, and didn t feel like the cliche, customer experience. Of course we had to try the wagyu, which was melt in your mouth to die for! Our main courses and sides were delicious. We will certainly return, especially for Sunday Funday to visit our girl Tray.
Delicious steaks and even better desserts. The truffle oil tater tots are very good.
Sat at the bar upstairs with the Sox game on the TV to catch up with a couple of old friends. We had a great time. Also loved chatting it up with the bartenders who had the best dinner menu recommendations. This place is an old favorite that is still doing it right.
We just had our anniversary there. Really great service. Amazing food, comprehensive wine list and a cigar to finish. Thank you!
Fantastic food and service. The french onion is delectable as is the filet and the tots with truffle oil.
Went here for a birthday and had a great time! The filet melted in mouth and the steak tartare was incredible. The bread pudding is a must-order. The whole group enjoyed the food and loved the atmosphere. Would definitely go back for another fancy night out!
Great food, higher end but not snooty. Super busy but still felt relaxed and enjoyable. Decor kind of has that state house vibe
A crown jewel among all restaurants we ve been so far. Well worth every penny we spent. Definitely recommend their steaks and sides (esp Brussels sprouts and mushrooms). Loved their attention to detail and their attentive service. Be back again for another special occasion
Fantastic experience. Arrived early and was seated right away. Great recommendation for a delicious Portuguese red wine and then steak. This dessert was perfect. The service was incredible. Thank you to all. We will certainly go back for seconds!
This restaurant wasn't what I thought it would be, the parking is bad, kinda expected because it's in Boston they do have valet which is good. I made an 8 o'clock reservation and got seated at 830 I asked to sit in front of the fire place they said ok and because of that request we waited longer because the table wasn't ready. But the problem was they didn't sit us at the table I requested they sat us adjacent to the fire place by a drafty window in which we had to keep our jackets on. The reason given for the wait I understood but to wait a half hour and then be told well that table is seated for four was a little upsetting. The decor was ok. The bread was cold definitely not freshly baked. The mussels weren't cleaned bit into it and dam near cracked my tooth because of the sand. I asked for medium rear rack of lamb and it was rear. The steak was ok definitely needed salt and pepper. I honestly was excited to try this place but left very disappointed wouldn't go again.... the service was good our waiter didn't tell us the specials but did check on us and even gave us our food a valet when we left it on the table.
Wow! We were so looking forward to going to Grill 23. We had a gift card to use from Christmas and than Covid appeared. We finally got our chance to use for take out tonight and it was certainly worth the wait. The Steak Frites, Sesame crusted Yellowfin Tuna, and Mac and Cheese with lobster were so delicious and our favorites! The Brussels sprouts and asparagus were wonderful too. But then we got to the Chocolate Chip Cookies and the Famous Coconut Cake and we knew they were made in heaven. So fabulous. Thank you for the great packaging and bringing to our car! The whole meal from ordering to the last crumb was fantastic.
The whole place was great!
Wonderful ambiance. Attentive staff. Excellent food. We were celebrating our anniversary and our server, Hector, made it extra special.
No hesitation in recommending Grill 23 for your special occasion.
