Biggest problem is it's remote. I enjoyed the location. Kids, not so much.

Casino machines were fun and provided an evening of entertainment, although the strong smell of cigarettes was a bit overwhelming.
Clean rooms. I've been here a few times where they ran out of the dinner specials. Have dinner early if you have your heart set on something.
The staff and views were great but we could not escape the smell of cigarette smoke, not even in our non-smoking room
The lodge had good food however it was a bit pricy. Rooms were comfortable, showers were a stand up only with only a half glass door so the whole bathroom was soaked.
Really nicely updated. Wonderful beds and pillows were perfect. The reason for the 4 star rating is because we couldnt open the windows in the room even a crack. Would of loved to have the fresh air coming through the window at night.
Being on a reservation there is smoking pretty much everywhere with the exception of the dining hall. Also the food was not up to typical casino quality. It was ok but nothing to right home about.
Reno's look awesome, restaurant food & service was good as always.
Worst dinner service I've ever experienced. Waited over an hour for our meal. Waitresses never checked back for additional drinks. Even the appetizers took forever. Wound up spending over two hours at the table. The excuse was the menu was new for the kitchen staff! Complained to the front desk and only got an "I'm sorry about that. I'll tell someone." Really? Will not be going back.
Nice place. Didn't do the casino. Full service restaurant plus a grill for a burger or something fast. We went swimming, the whirlpool, & sauna. Nice hiking nearby.
Great casino and great hotel. The restaurant was great as well. Was really impressed.
CV19 Ninjas! This team and community gets it . Masks. Screens. Thermal Temp checks.
SUPER CLEAN!!
Fabulous food and great staff in hotel & restaurant
the casino was so much fun and the food at their restaurant was very good!
Absolutely fantastic place to stay! I was impressed with the renovations the hotel made over the last couple years. We stayed in a non smoking room and I was very happy that it had no smoke smell at all. You always run the risk of the smoke stench permeating the entire building, but it definitely did not in this case. I d give the pillows a one star rating. My advice would be to bring your own pillows. Other than that, the room was clean, the bedding was neat, the bathroom was well equipped and the staff was friendly. We had breakfast the next morning at the restaurant and both my husband and I were pleased with the service and food. The pancakes are HUGE and tasty. The parking lot is large enough to accommodate large vehicles with trailers too. We didn t go into the casino at all. I d definitely stay here again and invite friends to join us. Nice job, Grand Portage Lodge and Casino!
I was there a long time ago me and my friend drive a Boston truck I stayed over night and waiting for my friend to come back from Canada at the time they didn't band smoking yet maybe it is the same if it is still a native reservation
Wonderfully renovated. Great for a day trip to play slots, or an awesome overnight getaway.
Small casino but nice mix of slots. Only two tables of blackjack the Saturday we were there. No waitresses. Had to go to bar to get beer, then return. Service was poor overall. Restaurant food was ok. Reserved one room and was given another with different amenities. Paint peeling a little in our room. This place is ok for where it is but I wouldn't make a special trip.
It's an awesome, clean place with friendly staff and excellent food!
Would be much better for customers and employees if it was non-smoking!
Generally a good place to stay on the way to and from Isle Royale.
The casino is under construction and a lot of areas are displaced. Some of the management staff are incredibly rude. I was once told that my take out order that was made wrong was MY fault and that I should check it before leaving the restaurant. What?
Courteous staff, they took care and brought me food that suites my needs.
Rude. Inconsiderate. Mice in room. DEFINITELY NEVER AGAIN. Management just blows you off.
We stayed here a few times while on route to and from Canada. Not a bad place, good location, lots to see, although one time, my dog got sprayed by a skunk.
Well on a Sunday pretty quiet around the hotel/ casino..... lady front desk was super! We ll check in and found out pool , gym, deli all was closed due to Covid-19, which they could have mentioned when I booked. Nothing stated online that I saw. Then in our room had dirty socks , and mask on the floor/ under the bed. So apparently they don t look under the bed skirt to vacuum. Then we ordered food from restaurant no one stays at front to help you, then when got back to room they never gave ketchup with our fries, went back down & girl at front was leaning against the wall asleep!
Got there to check in on the 14th of July the room we were suppose to get was dirty never cleaned. They had us go to another room that one was not lake view and I bed it was also dirty. They told us they could clean it as there was no other room. So we waited an hr this was at 830 pm. They told us we were going to get comp breakfast never happened and free play in the casino nothing. I did find bag of chips under bed even after they cleaned it. I would never recommend this place to any of my friends. Even though we have the COVID it should have been cleaned.
Great new Reno's. Hotel and casino is very nice. Rooms are good but not amazing. Nice views. Great kids play ground but they have to do something about the geese. Its absolutely disgusting how much goose feeces there is. The entire grounds infront of the hotel facing the lake is plastered with geese and geese feeces. It ruins what could be a great experience. There are very humane and proper ways to deal with this issue. This is a deal breaker for returning. Its too bad an issue that is easy to deal with isn't taken care of.
Nice people who work there, hard working , nice and quiet these Covid-19 days but nice weather November 7th about 50 degrees today
Great room and food! Highly recommend staying here.
Great place to stay. Very nice staff. Very helpful!!!
Nice sights. Out in the open but roomy. Laundry good. Showers weren't open which is why I gave a 4 star.
Nice and clean good food. The only disappointment was the price of the room. We called ahead and had two quotes. One for veteran.$130 to 89 dollars a night. If you want the discount all four of us should have stayed in one room. When we went to check out we were charged full price even when we held the rooms with a credit card owned by the veteran. Bottom line is if you don't gamble or charge things to your room no discount. PREFERRED MEMBERS ONLY.
We will not stay here again. As we travel by it more than 6 times a year.
Nice place but small not too many games, mondays are a bad day to go no food after 8 no card tables open
The casino was small and smelled heavy of smoke. The odds felt extremely favorable to the casino, compared to many of the other casinos I have been to. I would only stop again if passing through.
Decent rooms. Great views of the Lake. Not much as far as promotions go.
Difficult and slow check-in with reservations. Waited over 45 minutes with 2 check ins ahead of us. Beautiful campus and view from room towards lake. Sugned up for players club but they had no cords so forgot card twice and laft behind the 3rd time. Bar was closed when there so drinks served from a small doorway area on floor.
It's the closest casino nearest the Canada-U.S.A. border northwards... just like the one closest to the Windsor-Detroit border southwards. Accesible. Not really as appealing as all other casinos in Minnesota or those in adjacent states.
Quick service at restaurant. Reasonable prices. Nice atmosphere. Now gave a smoke free casino portion! Renovations still in progres but looks amazing already!
Stop advertising that you have a Max of $175 for black jack when it's only max of $50.
Not as good as it use to be silver members demoted to bronze so to don't get your bday rate anymore food in restaurant was a let down tried going a few times after my birthday and it's just not the same had way more fun before the remodel. I use to love going every weekend now when I'm asked I'd rather stay here.
The room was decent, nothing to complain about. They took great precautions with COVID which was nice, but don't understand why they couldn't leave toiletries in the room due to those precautions. The restaurant had great food and was reasonably priced.
I like the new renovations and games. I actually like to go there and sit and play again. It's fun again.
Me and my wife stayed there a night during Valentine's Day and we had a really great time. Other then the restaurant being very busy and understaffed that night it was a nice winter getaway and we will be staying there again.
Front desk staff had no idea what they were doing. They were more concerned with talking to each other about where they were the night before.
Food at the restaurant was ok. Wireless internet slow and spotty. Nice staff and clean casino though.
Newly renovated rooms were beautiful. Services were great, very accommodating for a surprise party. The party room was very clean, loved that you can bring your own food. Highly recommend to anyone to give them a go!
Rosemarie is a few marbles short. She's referring to the town, Grand Portage, which Google did "get right." This, of course, is referring to the geographical marker for Grand Portage. Edit 2/14/2018 it now seems Google has renamed this marker the Grand Portage Clinic.
