Portland has perhaps some of the best Goodwills in the western states. I speak as a book seller who buys thousands of dollars of Goodwill books all over the west every year. The books are almost always in great shape, well laid out and clean. The clerks are usually very helpful and polite and they are pretty quick to get my 2-3 shopping carts sorted out and charged.
HOWEVER, the prices are getting ridiculously high and I am not buying nearly as many books there as I used to. I'm shopping for places where I can get books for less money of equal quality and I think I've found a few (trade secret) SO I won't be shopping at Goodwill nearly as often or spending nearly as much. I think I reflect the opinion of many dealers (some of Goodwill's best book customers) as well as general population customers when I say that they need to reassess their prices for books!

This place has bad customer service and they sell their stuff way too much when you go to a Goodwill you're looking for good deals not stuff for like $60 a pair of shoes that look like they were worn maybe a few times or a Coach purse that is $15 with holes this is Goodwill and it's kind of frustrating how when you get up to the registers and you think it's one price and it's not

I actually enjoyed my time here and my purchase, but I can't with good conscious give a 4 star review when I know mostly everyone is making minimum wage while the execs get rich selling products that are literally given to them. Also, the thought of creating a boutique store disgusts me. These items should be up for grabs like everything else. #RantOver

Many things are broken, remember to leave the sticker on until u test it if u want to return it. A lot of their prices don't seem that great, especially considering they get their products donated for free. But I guess that is how they pay the executive's hundreds of thousands of dollars while they pay most of the workers minimum wage or less. I shop here because this location gets a lot of merch & sometimes I find things I don't see in other thrift stores. Even with my criticism of their pay values, I still like supporting local reusing instead of new manufacturing that creates more waste.

It's confusing because they have their clothes split up in family sections. You don't know what the sizes mean. One great thing is they have some newer video games at great prices. Just by sheer size - they have more more "sections" - however, that doesn't mean much more selection...notice the difference.

Hey Barbara Telfer , if you care so much about those other two local thrift stores that contribute to the community, why not list them here? I'm genuinely interested, but you're not providing substance of your claim...thus really missing out on the opportunity to help your community that you care so much about. Be proactive, Barbara...instead of just complaining.

The one star is for how they handle Donations. It is no small wonder that anything of value can make it onto the floor in tact. Zero Care.

Even when I said there's glass, they throw heavy box of books on top instead of starting a new cart, they continue to pile up all in one cart. Same for Artwork.

And I understand keeping distance because of current health concerns, but you Can bring an Empty cart closer to my car, especially when I said the box of books is very heavy and your cart is already overflowing.

Thoughtless, untrained and uncaring.

There are place where donations could be put to better use, don't settle for convenience of late-hour drop off here. Your items and Your Care deserve Better.

This is BY FAR my favorite Goodwill store in Portland. Every time I find amazing, one of a kind items or clothes- it's always busy and there's a reason why. I'm not sure how they determine which things go to which store, but this one has *never* disappointed me. Their cashiers/clerks are usually positive and seem to enjoy what they do. LOVE THIS STORE.

This is the biggest Goodwill I have gone to in the area. The selection is what you would expect from any Goodwill store but many more options. The large item/furniture section was much smaller than it could have been which was a little disappointing. Worth a walkthrough.

This used to be my favorite Goodwill of all time. I would often find nice treasures at a reasonable cost. Now days however that is pretty rare to the point were I don't bother going anymore. Goodwill is clearly pulling items of any worth and putting them on their website instead. Sort of defeats the joy of shopping at Goodwill.

Prices were really high. It cost me 12.00 for 3 books. A pair of used jeans cost more than a new pair of jeans at a local business. Their also not willing to make exceptions on any of the prices even if the person needs the items but they are a little short.

It's you're a second hand shopper or bargain hunter this is a great place to shop. The merch is weeks displayed and very well priced. You do have to look for small defects, after all it's second he and stuff. Fantastic bargains can be had especially if you know brands and quality things. Drinking glasses, plates and cooking gear is dirt cheap and if you luck out you can get new or akmost new at pennies on the dollar.

For a place that claims to help people with disabilities- their stores sure are impossible to move around in when you re in a wheelchair! The employees push around carts, and push their way past you, scraping the side of your wheelchair, and they leave but flat carts all over the store when they re stocking shelves but there s 6-7 of these carts blocking almost every aisle and nobody around stocking!
Not to mention the aisles are too narrow for a standard wheelchair and a shopping cart to pass by each other.
I ve spoken to the guy in charge a few times over the last few years about these issues - and he got angry last time I came in and tried to have a discussion about it. He said YES I KNOW YOU SAID THAT WHEN YOU WERE IN HERE LAST YEAR - PLEASE STOP BOTHERING ME

Which seems like a strange response to a few legitimate concerns...

They also have a habit of blocking the front exit with shopping carts, making it impossible for wheelchair users to exit the store. This seems like a few safety concerns.. I know goodwill gets bad press sometimes - but this is my experience over the last 2-3 years since I ve had to deal with using a wheelchair to get around.

Seems like some simple training would alleviate al this - but I ve been giving them a chance to respond to the concerns - not just me - a number of other wheelchair users share the same frustrations.
So I suppose now I ll have to leave this review, and warn other potential customers, that these stores in the Portland area are likely to result in your chair getting scratched, damaged, or your fingers pinched while attempting to shop like everyone else is able to.

Their motto of helping the disabled doesn t seem to be correct anymore in 2018

**update March 2019**
They have remodeled the front cash register area, and made it EVEN MORE inaccessible for people relying on mobility devices/wheelchairs. There s less space in the front by the checkout counter now than ever before! Also I had to have a clerk move a bunch of shopping carts that were completely blocking the front entity even get into the store. Come on goodwill.. are you about helping people with disabilities or not?

this place never fails to make me depressed. the prices are stoopid high, and the workers are treated badly. they have a security guard with a gun following everybody around like a creep... everybody, that is, that looks like me. i hate this place.

My dirt-poor white trash childhood is weeping in shame at this place. It's the Goodwill "boutique" and I kinda don't get it. So... used stuff at trendy vintage prices I guess? But there's more selection and better items at the 47 other vintage stores near by.. so.. but hey at least it's not that Hollywood Video that used to be there..

Don't waste your time. These people who work here are a joke. This whole place is a joke. They can't even spell correctly. Took me a week of calling every day to get some one on the phone. Completely unprofessional and unconcerned government employees. Yes. This is another govt program. That should say enough.

As far as Goodwill stores go, this one seemed overpriced to me. 20$ sneakers, 5$ kitchen wares (dishes and stuff), and 20$ sleeping bags. Also, some of their toys were clearly broken, but still for sale. The whole place had a bad vibe.

Goodwill is so much fun for a serious collector like me - from bonus items like years old computer and software in nearly barely-used condition, to old, worthless, smelly boots - you can find anything that you can imagine slapped with usually a inexpensive to total outrage of a price for it expensive but useless for anymore real use items of curiosity or really a collector's dream and heartbeat-monitor inducing joy like mine!

Love it. We had looked at "vintage" stores all day-all overpriced for clothes. Came here and bought 4 pants, two pairs new knee high socks, 1 shirt, 1 book- 36.00. Just one pair of pants at the vintage place was 26.00. So, yes, Goodwill did it again! Thanks Goodwill.

Donation drop off (drive through) is on 7th - around the corner to the left, if facing the main retail entrance.

Lots of books, good beadwork grab-bags at the jewelry counter, many housewares.

Goodwill is overpriced and it's workers are underpaid. And tho I have found a good deal once or twice mostly I find something I love but am so disgusted at the high price I leave it. And have you noticed that the 50%off items look like clothing your grandmother wore and should have been thrown out, not made to look like your getting such a good deal on clothes that when you get home you'll wonder why you even bought them in the first place! Because it was a SALE and 50% off!! Who could resist? A lot of people can't and they know this, good marketing trick! Has anyone else wondered why the CEO will not raise the workers wages above minimum wages? He CAN afford It. After all he is getting rich off of selling overpriced {AND FREE} merchandise from the work of underpaid labor.

Over priced, no carts, little security.

Over priced, no carts, little security.

Dear Goodwill, this stuff is DONATED to you. Your prices are really ridiculous. I thought you were a non-profit. Not sure how you can charge such high prices, not provide adequate security or carts and expect customers to shop and pay prices like $100 for a nativity set that is ceramic, but I couldn t even get it to the cashier because there are no carts.

Something is really off. Yes, I understand you have the issue of carts being stolen, but at the prices you are charging you should be able to have security and a barrier for the carts.

It's Goodwill. Cheap prices for everything (pretty much). This is a pretty expansive store, I think it's the headquarters. I used to shop at Goodwill a lot until I found out that they (supposedly) pay their hard to hire, and physically/mentally challenged employees $1.50 an hour. I am not okay with something like that so I cut back on my shopping with them. If I find out that's true I will stop shopping at Goodwill, period.

My favorite Goodwill in Portland proper. It's kept clean and fairly organized, the staff are always helpful, and it's a lot bigger than most of the other locations in the areas of the city I travel in, which means a bigger selection. I'm not the only one who's noticed this, so it can be a little crazy on the weekends, so I try to go on off peak hours.

Goodwill is the bomb! I always find stuff hella cheap and more often than not brand new here! It's clean, the staff are usually very friendly and helpful. I Will say there is sometimes a sketchy element usually involving its clientele but hey, it's a freaking thrift store, duh. But most people are just shipping for deals. My only complaint is that there are rarely shoes in my size, there are always womens 8 but hardly 6-1/2...cansome tiny footed people donate please?!

The local Goodwill store competes directly with two well established and very clean and organized charity thrift shops. Those shops do a lot more for the local community than Goodwill ever plans to do. They have the highest paid non-profit CEO on the west coast. And we will not forget it.
