The only drawback is that it is far from any public transportation. However, a taxi from the commuter rail station costs only $8 plus tip -- even less if you take advantage of the cab company website discounts for seniors. It was a two-mile walk from the railway station, but scenic, often with Atlantic ocean views. Wonderful, accommodating box office and employees, along with small, intimate theater and a very small snack bar with indoor and outdoor rod-iron chair and table seating. Very good acting and selection of plays. Definitely attend!

Last night my wife and saw a very good production of BEN BUTLER last night at the Gloucester Stage Company. The latter is a professional theater that regularly turns out high quality productions. We have seen a number of plays at the theater - and try to attend one every time that we stay in Gloucester.

We attended the opening performance of Barefoot in the Park. The theater is small, so there isn't a bad seat in the house. The play was light and funny and very well acted. At one point, the stage lights went out and the house lights came on, but the actors were so polished everyone thought it was part of the performance, until they stopped the play to fix the problem. We were told the whole neighborhood was down, but power was soon restored. I was concerned that the energy of the play wouldn't flow as well after that, but I was wrong. The play picked right back up seamlessly and if anything got even better. I hope to be able to attend another performance there soon.

The venue and performance were exceptional. The Customer Service is not. Purchased two (2) tickets through Bostix weeks before the performance date. When we arrived our tickets were across the theater from each other. When we asked "Fiona Kerr" for a remedy, she stated the problem was because we purchased tickets through Bostix and there was nothing she could do. However, when I sat down, two usher/volunteers sat beside me. Perhaps they could have given up their free seat, so my friend and I, who purchased tickets could sit together. Just saying.

First time, first experience at the Gloucester Stage Company, and I must say I truly enjoyed being there. The theater is small enough to give that intimate feeling, yet spacious enough not to be overbearing. The stage/production space provides the correct amount of staging to present each show with excellence. My one critique is, there was no microphone system. I had to listen very intently not to miss anything.
